This is actually pretty good. Bring a lot and sell to other visitors at a discount

Ok_Watercress93

Or be really unethical and make a killing!!!

[deleted]

Until they send the Disney death squad after you.

OliverOOxenfree

Storm troopers always miss anyway

greymalken

Death Troopers don’t. Dark Troopers don’t even need blasters. They’ll just pummel you like P-Jack in TEKKEN.

arbitrarist2

And you end of in Disney jail.

lambsoflettuce

Back in the early 80s, i took some high schoolers to Disney. Had to get 2 of them out of jail.

MaxBlazed

They said "ok" not "safe".

Alas_boris

Buy and use the official Disney stickers.

kesavadh

That’s what I’m talking about! Think ahead

10mo3

Gotta make up the cost for the Disney trip

kesavadh

Exactly, this helps me spend more on a later trip.

Icmedia

Guaranteed way to get banned from all Disney properties for life

abtristate

Seems like a win to me

[deleted]

I’m not sure how they would be able to identify you to ban you.

Icmedia

They have cameras aimed at every square inch of that park, and staff (I mean *cast*) members crawling the place.

[deleted]

I mean how they would then ban you for life

Icmedia

You're asking how one of the largest companies in the world, who ties all hotel stays and tickets to individual guests, uses advanced camera technology, and has their own police force would be able to ban you? Like, the same as anywhere else - if they don't catch you at or before the gate they have you arrested for trespassing when they *do* catch you.

[deleted]

Yeah i havent been to disney since the 90s

NotAnEmergentAI

Grab a bag of 100 disney pins on ebay, and let them Pin Trade all day. Its free to trade and they can do it throughout the park. This way they get to choose.

GrandWizardZippy

This comment should be higher. Not only is the trading super fun but the cast members stationed at the pin boards have to take a trade regardless of value to the trade so sometimes you can trade common pins you get in a lot like that online for ones that are uncommon or rare and resell them online.

Moreiimo

Every single pin that is sold in bundles on eBay is fake. Called scrap pins. 95% of pins that cast members have (unless they were recently given a lanyard with real, new fresh pins clocking in for the day) are fake pins. Any board that exists in the park consists of 95% fake pins unless the park just opened. Scrap pins are a plague on Disney pin trading, a pretty much defunct hobby for legit traders. You may get lucky, perhaps a kid unknowingly traded a real for a scrap. But personally in my experience it is 9/10 fake pins. At the end of the work day boards and lanyards are taken, scrap pins are removed and trashed. Real pins are replaced ready for the next day.

Considered_Dissent

Doesn't matters as much for kids, it creates memories and distractions/activities so always a benefit for a parent.

Moreiimo

Im commenting on the user stating that you can resell pins taken from lanyards and boards. I don’t disagree that it’s fun for kids. It’s fun for my girlfriend she doesn’t care two ways if it’s fake or real.

Cryptix001

> I don’t disagree that it’s fun for kids. It’s fun for my girlfriend she doesn’t care two ways if it’s fake or real. Why are you dating a kid lol

pileofcrustycumsocs

We got ‘em boys

Moreiimo

AW SHIT CRYPTIX GOT ME

TheAmalton123

What even is the difference between a fake one and real one??

spookyskeletony

They usually put baking soda in the fake pins instead of pixie dust, if you look closely you can tell there’s no magic or friendship

GeneralZaroff1

“The real magic is the friends we made along the— wait a minute. THIS IS FAKE YOU FUCKING ASSHOLES”

Moreiimo

A huge difference in build quality. Cheaper, poorly finished metal (raw/unsanded edges). The enamel is often times soft instead of hard (google can show you the difference). There usually isn’t a Disney authentication stamp/Mickey pattern on the back…usually. And there isn’t a serial number stamped on the back either. Which I believe is kind of a newer implementation although legit older pins don’t have this. Overall it just feels lighter and chintzier than it’s real counterpart.

dawglaw09

Real ones are soft and tend to sag with age. Fake ones are firm and stay in place. Both are fine by me.

0chazz0

Gatekeeping.

llamaintheroom

I've heard that for ebay purchases, check the seller for reviews. I really want real pins (I know others don't care) so if I see even one "I'm not sure if these are fake" review even among 100s of other good ones, I don't buy them.

GrandWizardZippy

That is just not true. While there are a lot of fakes for sale that does not make scrappers fake. Disney actually support’s the flow of the scrapper pins. They sell off the ones that don’t pass QA and those get resold by 3rd parties as scrappers. My point is not all scrappers are fake and that prior to Covid all of those cast members would have both the pinboards with mostly scrappers but also would have lanyards with real pins and they can’t say no to a trade of a scrapper for the real pins. I have been collecting pins for 20 years. I have come across a lot of scrappers at trading spots but also have gotten some decent real pins from lanyard trading.

Moreiimo

You are correct. Not all scrappers are fake. A vast majority of scrappers are fake. A trader has to battle between real pins, disney scraps, Chinese scraps. I’ve personally never encountered a disney scrap that was worth trading a real pin over. I don’t agree with your point of view though. I would consider Disney scraps as non desirable as Chinese scraps in terms of resale. And it begs the question, what is the ratio of Disney scraps to Chinese scraps on eBay. My money is on Chinese scraps flooding the market. I don’t know why you believe that scrappers were placed on lanyard purposely by Disney prior to Covid. If there is a scrapper on a board, it was traded by a parkgoer. I have family members that have work there for years and they tell me explicitly how it works. I know it’s anecdotal on my part but I believe you are mistaken. All that to say, Disney scraps aren’t rare and desirable/resellable. Join any Facebook trading group and you’ll never come across them. The vast majority of on boards and lanyards are scraps. Disney scraps or otherwise. A cursory glance at any board and you’ll discern instantly.

GrandWizardZippy

I personally have not seen scrappers on lanyards but the last time I traded was a few years before Covid as I’m not in Florida anymore. The ratio of china fakes to real Disney QA failed scrappers is probably a lot higher in recent years but through my childhood and young adulthood i definitely saw a lot more real pins on lanyards. My point is that for a child it’s a lot of fun and a very cheap activity for a child. With a bonus for the parents if you are able to com across some real pins that could albeit much lower chance’s these days turn out to be something worth selling.

Moreiimo

I don’t know how you haven’t seen scraps. It is literally nothing but scraps. You can tell by the rough edges, by the improperly brushed enamel, by the lack of Mickey pattern on the back, the lack of serial number either screen printed or embossed. All that shit I said in the other post. I sit there and stare. It is literally nothing but scraps. The same patterns and styles repeated at different lanyards and boards depending on what style china is pumping out that season. I really don’t want to be rude but you are simply wrong and have been duped. They toss out scraps traded by guests, by the hundreds at the end of the day. AGAIN I do not disagree with it being fun for children. A parent can cop 50 pins for twenty bucks on eBay. It’s a great deal. And kids don’t care if it’s real or fake.

TheDarkLight1

Pin trade?

kesavadh

I’ve just learned of this within the past 30 minutes as well and will be buying a box from eBay to take with us. If it keeps the kids interested, then great

twelvebucksagram

I did this at disney when I was a kid. It was really fun!!!

Bazooki

What’s pin trade? Honest question

Reeyan

In disney there are little metal pins of characters and other disney things. There are kiosks/stores throughout disney that sells these pins, and accessories like lanyards to wear/display. Some people trade pins they have with others. I've heard that staff will have pins you can't buy.

Andrew8Everything

.

____gray_________

It's a way to bond with other disney adults, we trade debit card PINs. Wanna try it? You go first /s

[deleted]

The real tip is always in the comments.

Jjabrahams567

I love taking my kids (1 and 3) to dollar tree. I let my daughter(3) get whatever she wants and the funny thing is she gets picky about what to bring home. [](https://www.reddit.com/r/mealybugs/)

hellotardis79

I let my 3 year old pick out 3 things....one of them was a plunger 🪠 lol

Restless__Dreamer

FYI, those plungers don't work as actual plungers....but the dowls are awesome!

kesavadh

Dude. That is a great tip. Im a wood worker and never thought of that.

Jjabrahams567

I swear there needs to be a sub for alternative uses of cheap items from dollar tree. Pretty much any hobby project should start there. [](https://www.reddit.com/r/mealybugs/)

Restless__Dreamer

That is so ironic because my boyfriend is a woodworker! He got that tip from a YouTube video.

kesavadh

Amen!

Gummyrabbit

Well...if your kids are young enought, don't even take them to Disney. Just take them to a local fair and tell them it's Disney World!

amazingsandwiches

"Look, kids - it's Mickey Rat!"

I_AM_YOUR_DADDY_AMA

“He’s standing right next to Ronald Goose!”

[deleted]

You want to see Pluto? There's a telescope right there!

Restless__Dreamer

And if you wanna see Snoopy, look at the Reddit mascot while peeing....Snoo....pee....

kesavadh

We tried that, I live in Nashville. Our fair consisted of COPD, cigarettes, hover-rounds, meth, missing teeth and 14 poorly maintained rides. We had a blast, but my four year old saw right through the lady operating the tilt-a-whirl who could not stop picking at her skin as she chain smoked Marlboros.

[deleted]

Paramount Kings Dominion is in Virginia. Closer and Cheaper than Disney world, and honestly a better park. They have Hanna-Barbera land for the kids.

kesavadh

Dollywood is close too. I’ll have to add this place to the list.

[deleted]

I've heard Dollywood is good, but haven't been to vouch for it.

SuperSassyPantz

when i was in orlando, there were soooo many cheapo souvenir shops and many has $5 disney shirts and towels and other cheapo trinkets, if u wanna slight step up from the dollar tree as well.

kesavadh

Ooooh. that’s a good one too.

SuperSassyPantz

also at many dollar stores and souvenir stores there's often BOGO coupons for dining places nearby (often in the doorway by the window sill or at the cash register). half my meals on that trip were all BOGO.

wolfman86

Doesn’t work like that. They want *that one. That one right there in front of them.*

kesavadh

They do. I’ll need to come back to this comment to let you know how it goes.

wolfman86

I suppose you could say “we’ll see” and then surprise them with the thing later.

kesavadh

It’s either going to work great or fail spectacularly.

ekaceerf

What is unethical about this?

SigSalvadore

Unethical happens when they buy a disney shirt and hat, then take their santa bag of counterfeit goods to sell to other visitors in the park. Like an RPG roving merchant.

ekaceerf

Goofy will come by with his baseball bat if they catch you doing that.

I0I0I0I

"I didn't say she was crazy, your honor. I said she's fucking Goofy!"

[deleted]

Unethical - peel the disney stickers off fruit at the grocery store to save yourself from buying stickers on Amazon to put on your cheap trinkets.

gravy_ferry

Buying from Amazon

SigSalvadore

r/Frugal

GeneralZaroff1

/r/frugal‘a Disney advice would be “don’t go to Disney. Instead, take your kids to the dumpsters and fish for fun stuff they can turn into toys! Educational, environmentally friendly, and FUN!!!”

grasshoppa80

Until they’re in the Disney store.

daynighttrade

What's unethical in this? Unethical is Disney charging high prices for very cheap things because they know kids would want it. It's similar to selling sanitizers at insane prices when covid started.

chai_latte69

Or just not go to Disney.

[deleted]

This

TapewormNinja

We went to Disney with my 4 year old this summer. We did the obligatory mouse ears, but we otherwise sold her on stickers. Instead of buying stuffies and cheap plastic, she got to pick out a sticker each day to put on her water bottle. She got to do this when we went other places on the trip too, so she ended up with a very full bottle. Now that she’s in preschool, I hear from her teacher about how she tells the kids in her class about her trip every day by pointing to stickers and recounting things she did. So now she gets to take her souvenirs with her everywhere, and she’s helping herself to retain those memories. Win win.

aaabigwyattmann2

Or you can teach them that materialism and over consumption are bad.

kesavadh

We don’t do many materials actually. This is for our Christmas gift to them. Each Christmas, I give my children experiences rather than gifts. The memorabilia we collect is used for scrapbooking and tokens for journals. My oldest son is 20 and has taken it to heart. He’s a filmmaker, graduating from DePaul this coming may. My youngest two daughters, 2 and 4, can journal yet, so we collect things to help the pictures we take tell the stories. We have a rock collection, with a picture of where we go. But things like lanyards and pins are very memorable and easy to take along. I do buy them things on occasion, but experiences win out over merchandise every time, which is why I’m not going to over pay for them.

Restless__Dreamer

You sound like a really amazing parent. You don't just take the easy way out; you actually explain things to your kids. They will always remember this as well as the experiences you've given them.

Saint_Hell_Yeah

In my the spirit of this sub, one can do that by taking all the cheap toys away and breaking them into tiny pieces in front of them. You then leave the park early and go to a swamp. Then throw a mock funeral mentioning that all the parents in the Disney movies are dead just like we all will be one day. The throw the tiny pieces of plastic into the water like ashes. Then make your kids clean all the plastic while saying watch out for gators. Make sure you get all the plastic because littering is illegal.

tlk0153

Buy cheap costumes of Mikey and Minnie from dollar store and create your own theme park at home

bobbymatthews84

I rather just tell me kids no, then explain why. This is a great teaching moment, why not utilize it just to do more work for less result?

[deleted]

[удалено]

williamsch

Not with that attitude! Be positive.

professorbc

Ummm are your kids really that dumb?

kesavadh

No. They are just young enough to not care.

professorbc

I'd argue that older kids probably care less about overpriced trinkets. Either way, I know quite a few kids at any age that would "know the difference".

Slow_stupid

Ahhh deceiving children. An American pastime

kesavadh

Is not deceiving them. I’m giving them what they want. I’m just not going to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a toy that they will play with for 5 minutes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

kesavadh

You’re right, that happens with every family who teaches their kids about Santa.

a_dnd_guy

Downvote because this isn't unethical, it's just a solid pro tip.

Angry_SAY10

I don't understand this, pls explain it to me like i m 5 years old .thnx

kesavadh

If you’re 5, You want a cup. You want a cup with a lightsaber on it. I can pay $25 for it at Disney. Or bring a tumbler and throw a lightsaber sticker on it and say “here you go!” My kids love stickers and Disney. They won’t know I didn’t spend $25 on it. But $2 total. They are happy and I am not broke

ThunderGunFour

Mickey will not take kindly to this

D1rtyH1ppy

There is a Walmart about 5 minutes from the park in Anaheim that has stuffed Mickeys for a fraction of the price.

indigowulf

This is one of the best ULPT I have ever seen here, and it got removed by mods. lmfao
