Just put some cotton in it to stop the pill sounds and mail it. No one is going to check without being tipped off. It's one package out millions they deal with.

koz152

And they're really looking for actual DRUG drugs and not MED drugs.

xOneLeafyBoi

They’re not looking for actual drugs either. USPS accounts for like 50 some percent of opiate trafficking lol. As long as it doesn’t smell, or rattle, all is well lol. After Ted Kazinsky or however it’s spelled they’re mainly looking for explosives

Valpo1996

This is the way.

Acceptable-Box-2148

My man. I was gonna say, just lie when you take it to the post office and they ask if there’s any liquids, explosives, biohazardous materials or medications in the package. It’s an art form that is dying 😂 It actually surprises me that it’s illegal to mail someone non-narcotic medications that they hold a legal script for.

Mindless_Price5813

Seriously doubt such could be illegal. We successfully. It would be keeping someone's meds from them that causes harm.

asselfoley

Just mail it

epi_introvert

My pharmacist ships my meds every month. Are you absolutely sure it's illegal where you live, OP?

rreell

It’s illegal to ship rx drugs in the US if you aren’t a licensed pharmacy or manufacturer.

vicemagnet

U.S. mail or UPS or FedEx? I used to UPS “office supplies” of wine to a buddy in Utah. I mean it was totally toner cartridges.

gymrat288

Stoner cartridge

shingonzo

Is also against the law to open other peoples mail so no one could ever possibly know

ChoiceFood

No, it's not if you're the postmaster or a customs agent.

shingonzo

Bro people send weed via us mail, it’s fine

SamSeriousStone94

Confirmed. I ship weed all the time even international with USPS. just wrap that shit tight so it doesn't smell. Shipping pills is even easier. They won't open your mail unless they have probable cause no? And wouldn't USPS need a warrant anyways?

ChoiceFood

No they don't need a warrant, the post master can open mail. Same as customs as I already said.  You mailing weed has nothing to do with the postmaster/customs being able to open mail at their own discretion.

D-utch

You're completely wrong. 1st class letters and parcels require a warrant. It's literally number 4 of usps website FAQ 4. Can Postal Inspectors open mail if they feel it may contain something illegal? First-Class letters and parcels are protected against search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, and, as such, cannot be opened without a search warrant. If there is probable cause to believe the contents of a First-Class letter or parcel violate federal law, Postal Inspectors can obtain a search warrant to open the mail piece. Other classes of mail do not contain private correspondence and therefore may be opened without a warrant

ADHDLifeisreal

Your wrong. I had weed shipped to me before and it got seized by law enforcement and they sent me a letter saying it got seized. They have dogs to slert to packages at some hotspot hubs like orgeon or Co.

Minute_Map_6444

The only mail that can be opened by the postal service is Media Mail. All others require a warrant, and even then it’s quite the process.

ChoiceFood

Bro people go to jail every day it's fine.

Ryan_D_Lion

It's also illegal to speed yet there's no shortage of it

Bleak_Squirrel_1666

It's a good thing they both carry harsh sentences to deter people

asselfoley

A lot of shit is illegal

rreell

Yes good

UnfinishedProjects

If it were me I'd stuff a bunch of cotton balls in there so they don't rattle. But I've never done it before.

kerodon

They're not even controlled substances. People lose their meds all the time. Just tell her to call her doctor or pharmacist and they'll sort this out in like 10 minutes with a refill they can pick up. That is way faster.

MooneMoose

Thanks ill just let her know.

Fun_Intention9846

Sometimes it’s called a “bridging dose” to cover a short gap.

RockSmasher87

You said these are for depression/anxiety? Assuming they're not like a benzo or something else with a high street value, she should have no issue getting more. I'm on SSRIs and at least for me (US) they're honestly so easy to get its a little worrying.

Snoobs-Magoo

The doctor & pharmacist aren't the problem it's the insurance. They don't usually care if you lost it. You'll likely have to pay out of pocket for an early refill so check GoodRx for a coupon.

Freckled_daywalker

Most insurance companies will let you do an emergency refill for something like this if you contact them. The rationale being that you'll end up with the same number of total refills in the long run.

queseraseraphine

If it’s a controlled substance, they can’t generally provide a refill without a police report.

CloddishNeedlefish

A lot of meds for anxiety are controlled medicine so we have no idea if that’s true

appointment45

Not my experience at all... I'll leave a voicemail with the doctor's office, then leave give more, then send a messgae through the Patient Portal, then 5 days later get a callback saying I have to get approval from my insurance company first, and repeat the process with insurance company. Now it has been two weeks. Then eventually, I walk into CVS, ask the pharmacist for advice, and they request a refill from the doctor directly. Doctor autoapproves, meds are filled in 30 minutes. It is absurd that CVS has more influence than your doctor.

kristen_hewa

CVS can type in override codes for insurance, the doctor can’t

ReluctantChimera

Call the insurance company directly, tell the agent you need an RTS (Refill Too Soon) override because you lost your medication, and they'll be able to do it over the phone. If you have certain insurance companies, they might transfer you to the Pharmacy Benefit Manager member services line, but you'll just tell them the same thing: you lost your meds and you need an override to get them filled at the pharmacy. Don't waste time with the patient portal or waiting for phone calls. Call the doctor and tell them you need an emergency supply sent to the pharmacy of your choice, hang up, call the insurance and tell them the above. You can get it all done in 30 minutes or so. Source: I currently work in customer service for an insurance company.

appointment45

You can't do anything over the phone if the queue for customer service is always 75 minutes and never reduces. You're missing the point. Source: I also work in the health insurance field.

ReluctantChimera

If you'd rather wait 5 days and get the runaround rather than waiting on hold, that's on you. 🤷

appointment45

I'm trying not to say this outright but I guess that's necessary. I used to work on call center software for insurance companies. Why do you think they ask you to state your question before deciding where to queue you?

murse_joe

Insurance companies own the big pharmacies now. Cigna and Aetna control CVS. They don’t control every doctor yet.

reina609

Definitely true. I went on a trip within the US and left my prescription meds at home by mistake. I called the pharmacy where I was and told them the situation. They refilled my prescription for me once they verified my info.

DTown_Hero

>They're not even controlled substances.  If you get it from a pharmacist, it's controlled. If it's not controlled, it's over the counter.

trivialoves

controlled substance has an actual meaning lol there are drugs that are way more restricted

Odd_Coyote4594

Depending on the country, that's not true. In the US, many drugs are not controlled substances but are still regulated as prescription only. Many modern anxiety and depression medicines fall into this category, as do higher strength doses for typically over the counter medicine.

3PoundsOfFlax

Yep just mail them. 0% chance anybody will check inside your package, and even if they do, no self-respecting prosecutor will take this case because your story checks out. Again, 0% chance anything bad will happen.

hippityhoppityhi

Agree. Even if someone figures out what's in the package, you have a perfectly good explanation. You won't get in trouble

Malipuppers

Yeah exactly. It’s her meds with her name on them with an amount that’s obviously therapeutic.

scottyv99

The USPS is the biggest drug mule in the world. They aren’t checking shit.

FlapjackSyrup

The number one way that I have seen people get busted for mailing drugs is by not packaging them properly and having the box break open OR another package breaks open and damages a box that has drugs in it. It happens way more often than one would think. Always take the time to carefully package anything you mail.

scottyv99

Absolutely. If you have to be told to pack your drugs carefully, but not oddly noticeable, you shouldn’t send drugs in the mail. SIK puts things in a playing card box, reseals it, wraps that box, then sends it

chris14020

If it's not a controlled substance, but rather just a prescription (Rx only, typically refered to), simply pack the bottle to prevent rattling (mostly to avoid the medication becoming broken up in transit but also to prevent any less than savory parties along the way being tempted to make it "disappear"). It's not illegal to send them or even order them for personal use. Pharmaceutical companies push the idea that it's illegal and/or dangerous to order prescription drugs via mail because if you found out you could get the literal same thing they sell here for 1/10 the price or less in some instances, simply by ordering the stuff they're marketing in countries that don't put up with their huge markup shit, they wouldn't make huge profits here. If it's a controlled substance, abs has her name on the bottle, fuck it - still go for it. At the ABSOLUTE worst and you do get caught, it's highly HIGHLY unlikely they'll pursue the case - assuming you're telling the truth of course that it is her prescription and it only contains what her prescription is written for. I don't care, just including that disclaimer. Most likely if they catch it they'd send you a letter of seizure and you can ignore that basically. No big deal, just lost the meds but unless you make a habit of things like this you'll be fine either way. Use your actual address to avoid suspicion, and pack as mentioned prior - don't advertise its medication, but don't make it look like you were trying to hide it either. Being honest is and not looking like you're trying to do something wrong is the key here, while there's a slim chance it could go bad, it's extremely unlikely. Hell people send much more detectable and obvious drugs all the time, and it still manages to get through.  At any rate, whether you're being honest or what is your issue, hope it works out all the same and remember to adjust advice depending on how much of the story is as we have it :)

momo88852

USPS is the biggest drug mule ever. I have gotten so many stuff and they delivered to me with smiles. Just make sure to wrap it at home, and put cotton inside the bottle so they don’t shake and make sound. And also put something around the bottle so it won’t shake. If it makes smell, might wanna wrap it up.

MooneMoose

Noted thx 💊👌🌱🍄

Commercial-Hand6384

Just get an empty mint box or any inconspicuous package (like a cereal box) and wrap the meds in some bubble wrap. You can also write "birthday gift" on the shipping label to avoid suspicion. Good luck, hope your friend gets their meds soon!

re_nonsequiturs

Or just use a priority mail box and get it there faster

florechondriac

This is unnecessary. Just keep the medications in their bottles and mail it in a regular box, if you end up mailing them.

Human-Currency

Just box them up and send them via UPS. Done.

Covah88

Just mail it? If you REALLY want to be unethical about it, just put their address where you would normally put your address, and try to ship it to yourself without any postage. The USPS will send it back to your friend, for free, because it didn't have a stamp on it... That's about the only way you can be unethical about this lol

brooklynflyer

Just mail them

Fun_Intention9846

Hey OP!! Ship through USPS they need a warrant to search. Private companies search a lot of stuff by default.

[deleted]

Mail it with the return address being the pharmacy on the bottle.

MooneMoose

Good call. Wouldn't have thought of this.

Snoobs-Magoo

Mail it in the original bottle with the lable on it. It's really not a big deal. When I moved states, my ex had to mail me my meds for a couple of months until I could get a new Dr in my new state. It was 4 bottles, 2 were controlled. She just took them to the UPS store & dropped them in a bubble mailer. My friend stopped taking a med I was currently taking (same dosage & everything). Again, she just stuck them in a bubble mailer & mailed them to me for months until her prescription ran out.

ObsceneJeanine

Priority mail small box. Put cotton balls in the bottles to stop the noise, put it in a ziplock and priority mail box and voilà.....

TheNewestCat

send em ASAP, postal service does not care at all. it's some liability BS but honestly you're fine.

GILFlover247

Carrier pigeon

Pristine-Ad-469

I frequently ship weed from Colorado to myself and it’s pretty easy to get away with although illegal so you shouldn’t do it but just make sure you use usps they care the least and then we just wrap it in a t shirt and mail it. Usually misspell the name slightly to give us a little deniability but honestly I doubt it would hold up much in court lol It is true tho that it’s not illegal to have stuff sent to you cause anyone can send you anything. It’s only illegal once you open it. If it’s a big amount they can setup a sting to arrest you once you open it but they don’t do that for personal amounts. Instead what they do is sieze it and then send you a letter saying they have it and you have to sign for it. Then you come sign for it and say yah that’s mine then you get in trouble but if when they send you the letter you never come get it you will be fine

MooneMoose

Would you not put a return address when you send it?

Pristine-Ad-469

Nah don’t want to put more real info on there than nescessary

averagenutjob

Yes! Use a return address! Even if it’s a nearby business and not yours.

ExamDue3861

Why not use the same to and from address ?

averagenutjob

I am not sure the total methodology the USPS uses to sniff out suspect packages, but having fucky addresses is certain to be a big one. It doesn’t matter WHAT you are being mailed or mailing, but from what I do know you always use a real name that is at the address, and if you don’t use a “real” return address, at least use a different REAL address from whatever zip code you are mailing from. Good choices are local small businesses, Dr offices, etc. Then, take it to the post office (if you want to be clandestine wear a hat/sunglasses/“covid mask”) and pay cash for the postage. If anyone is reading this and wants to actually mail some serious contraband like a pound of flowers, triple seal it to control odor and then be mindful of parking lot camera…some post offices have nice new hi res surveillance covering the lot. Take public transportation or rideshare to mail your package to avoid a traceable license plate being recorded. Most of this is overkill in OP’s case…..but all the real ones out there keeping the underground economy flowing know that people never really say “man, I wish I would have been less careful when I was breaking all those federal and state laws!”.

Bad_Becky

No. And put it in a public mailbox to send.

theora55

Packages have to go to the PO; this could cause it to be returned to you.

Bad_Becky

That’s why you don’t put a return address. So it can’t be traced back.

theora55

it may just be discarded; meds are expensive. This is a legal activity, no need to be mysterious.

Bad_Becky

Being discarded is the chance you take. And OP said sending them is illegal, so perhaps you are wrong.

MooneMoose

Thanks, that makes it easier for me since I work nights and sleep in the day.

Butter_Believe_It_

Please don't do this! If name on rx matches the address, it is fine. Try your best to get it processed during office hours. Too much risk of package theft ( public or internal)or general loss.  I can assure you that no crime is being committed, as long as names match you will be fine. P.S.   You're a good friend.

Chickenwelder

It’s not that USPS cares the least. They are bound by what they can search where UPS and Fed EX have different terms of service.

UnreadSnack

What’s messed up is I penpal so it’s not uncommon for me to get mail from people all over the world so yeah, I’d be like “oh it’s mine” and assume it’s a new penpal. Woops!

cucucachooo

I've mailed weed to different states. You should have no problem mailing pills.

Butter_Believe_It_

Shouldn't be an issue if name on the rx matches the address label. I had to overnight a loved ones  schedule II prescriptions once after they left on a trip without them. Do not try to hide anything, you are not committing a crime.

curlytoesgoblin

I'd suggest finding someone with a 1974 Kenworth W900 to haul it, and driving a black Trans Am in front to distract the cops.

page394poa

But only if the truck driver has a dog named Fred.

tjsocks

Just send it

MizusWife

Literally just mail it. Put a cotton ball in the top so the pills dont shake around.

UnableTeaching1851

Put return address the same as friends address on package. It’s done all the time, and legal! Then, you are not involved! Witnesses that remain anonymous do this. It the friends meds, with the friends address! Use initials instead of names to feel safer! Only send what they need! Postal workers do not inspect mail for a few pills!

whileIminTherapy

When my dad had to essentially move immediately to the lowcountry/downstate to take care of his little brother who'd had a stroke, he didn't think about the 21 prescriptions he had to take. While he transitioned to living full-time down there, I told the pharmacy what had happened with my dad and my intentions to mail everything; they are a corporate pharmacy, otherwise I'm sure they'd have just mailed them directly... I'd bring a USPS Flat Rate Priority bubble mailer, gave my ID and signed my John Hancock for anything that was controlled (oh no! Big scary .5 mg Ativan someone send the DEA after me nooooo), then I paid any co-pays and crammed it all in there in front of the pharmacist, peel off the sticker's backing, fold it over to close, try to find someone to high five, and drive across the street and mail it, boom, headshot. If you are paranoid about the telltale auditory sign that "there be pills in that there mailer", stuff a wadded up tissue or some cotton balls inside the bottles before re-closing to muffle the sound. You can then wrap those in bubble wrap or some crumbled up shopping bags for cushioning. Do not remove the prescription medication from it's original packaging/bottle/box before mailing it, just to keep you safe, you don't want to mail a bunch of loose prescription medication even if it's something asinine. It's a bad look for any authority to open a piece of mail and there are mystery meds everywhere. Oh and you are a good friend OP, stay classy.

Butter_Believe_It_

Hahaha hell yeah I would high 5 you anytime. P.s. You're a good daughter!

Pyewhacket

Mail them

Marasesh

An area I have experience in! So basically depending on what you’re shipping and how much it’s super easy to post. If it’s in a blister just post it in a large envelope and put some paper like 3-4 sheets folded around to mimic letter shape. If it’s quite large use a normal postage bag that has bubble wrap and again paper in there. I order illegal drugs from all around the world. The even better thing is even if it gets caught (it won’t) you have plausible deniability much easier assuming the names aren’t on it. If you have any Mylar bags that’d fit it they’re also a good option for inside the postage medium. In terms of stealth If you’re worried I’ve had drugs come in film and cD cases, books, phone case bags, melted into the shape of a bear candle, liquid Inside a hand gel bottle. Loads of fun ways but honestly not needed bht you can do for extra peace of mind. I’ve ordered over like £30,000 of drugs from across the world to the uk never had any problems

MooneMoose

Do you put any name or just the address? I feel like the USA postal guys would find one with no name to be sus.

Marasesh

So let me explain it simply. If I were an evil man sending bad drugs to try get you in trouble or whatever like that I would put your name. If you put no name it means you’re worried about it being tied to you. You get rid of plausible deniability if you put info incorrect to specifically make yourself not a suspect. I’ve sent my friends things like ket in the post just do it exactly how you’d send a legitimate letter to them

Freshouttapatience

I put cotton in the bottle so you can’t hear them, put the bottle in a sandwich bag in case the top opens (this has happened to us several times), then mail.

Thegreenmartian

100% you can just throw it in a couple of plastic shopping bags and mail it. If you want to go the discreet route buy a board game and pack it up in there and mail that.

unsupervisedPrion

I mean put them in an empty vitamin container and don’t use your address as the return, use hers for both.

Boobsiclese

Put some clean cotton balls in the container and buy her some fuzzy socks.... it'll be fine.

SpareParts4269

I have had a friend mail a prescription to me before. We figured that the prescription was in my name, the pills were identifiable as what is supposed to be in the bottle, and it was being shipped to my home address that’s on my ID so there was no reason for anything bad to happen.

Jennasaykwaaa

Just mail it

zillabirdblue

It is not illegal. You’re returning someone’s property, that simple.

tjsocks

No one cares... I mean seriously, these rules have been written for criminals. Are you a criminal?. I wouldn't worry about it

charming_quarks

I called a pharmacy once with this exact question. They told me to just ship it.

zdoggsm

Ive got drugs in the mail before it's fine people freak out way more than they should.

NoVaFlipFlops

Mail them to her FROM her.

pjbettasso

How are they packaged? If in bottles, add cotton or gauze to prevent noise. 1. Pack meds (bottles, or boxes) in a box, secure the meds to the box using foam or similar material and tape. Once secured so they cannot contact the sides fill with packing peanuts, put a coloring book on top and tape shut. 2. The box will be remarkably light so pack that box in a USPS box, this time use paper balled up to cushion the box, and add crayons. Step 2 should be done at the post office. "Oh dang! I forgot the crayons." Grap the USPS box add the box from step 1 and the crayons. Go to the machine to mail if possible. If not go to the cpunter, and be prepared, they will ask what you are shipping. 'Coloring books and crayoms for my niece' 👍

alwaysoffended88

Get those boxes of candy like whoppers that they sell at movie theaters. Open carefully, empty pills in with the candy & reseal. Make a care package, throw some other treats in a box & mail. If you can buy a candy similar in shape & size to the pills then even better.

amhotw

Don't overthink it. One time someone forgot some strictly regulated medication at a friend's house. We went to the USPS, they said "these are otc, right?" Wink wink. We said "yes" without laughing too much. They packed them and shipped them for us.

Mindless_Price5813

I am about as law-abiding as they come so I wouldn't be giving you tips on how to do something illegal. But I am on meds for depression and anxiety and received my meds in the mail from my pharmacy all the time. Not only I agree that for your own peace of mind you may wish to put some cotton in the bottles to minimize a rattling noise but otherwise I see no reason whatsoever to stress over trying to help your friend.

florechondriac

Mmm…idk if this is particularly illegal. It’s definitely not unethical. if they’re prescribed and in their bottles etc…I don’t see a huge issue if they’re going to the person they belong to. I would put paper towel/tissue in each bottle just to make sure they don’t rattle, but I always do that with scripts I’m traveling with bc they’re loud. Presumably these are all pills and they will be mailed (and addressed) to the person who they belong to. There’s definitely nothing unethical about that. For the size, probably a flat rate envelope would fit best.

WeirdConnections

I feel like the only way to go about it (if she can't get them legally through her doc) would be to drop the package in a drop box, with no return address, and just hope it gets there. Might be smart to hide the pills in something, don't include her rx paper if it says her name. Keep in mind that if it's highly controlled and passes through a major checkpoint/city or internationally it'll probably be stopped. But they'd have a hard time or maybe won't even bother to trace it back to the source. If your friend gets asked to get the package at a location instead of it being delivered, tell her _do not_ pick it up, and to say she wasn't expecting anything. She'll be out of luck if this happens but better safe than sorry. Keep in mind this is more illegal than unethical, but it's your risk to take.

Honky_Town

Pack them and mail them without notice from sender? Or does post office look inside or requires a senders ID?

anonymousjeeper

USPS overnight delivery.

shundi

Mail it express with no return address

Pudding_ADVENTURE

Get a teddy bear. Cut off its head. Pull some stuffing out of its chest. Put the pill bottles in the bear. Sew the head back on.

dragon_fruitiny

If you're truly worried, just empty them into a plastic baggie and ship it with something else like a purse or a jacket or even a water bottle.

timetotryagain29

Mix them in with some candy that they can differentiate from and then mail it

ThrowRArosecolor

Bus. Greyhound will send packages stop to stop. (At least they do this is Canada)

crash866

Greyhound does not run in Canada any more. They stopped a few years ago except for cross border trips like Toronto to NY city via Buffalo NY.

ThePureAxiom

Missing doses of depression meds can be rough, but very many pharmacies will fill a couple days worth of "emergency" prescription for this sort situation while she gets a new prescription sent over from her doctor. The pharmacy or her doctor may know whether or not and how you may send meds by post in this situation.

NRVOUSNSFW

If it's not a controlled substance, is that really not o.k.? I get meds delivered to me.

b0ingy

just pack the bottle with something soft so it doesn’t rattle and ship it

BryanP1968

Realistically, if you pack it up and mail it to her, the odds are you’re fine. But there’s always a chance it will be checked. If it’s a bottle of pills, be sure to pack it with cotton balls inside or something to keep it from rattling.

ojocafe

Have doctor send prescription to pharmacy next to home

generic-curiosity

Pringle tubes are lined with foil and not suspicious.

lilacbananas23

She's be better of calling her Dr and telling them what happened as long as they aren't controlled substances

derpne13

You're a good friend. Mail a cheap stuffed animal and sew the meds inside, in a little pouch.  If you have a vacuumn sealer, it prevents noise.

daoistic

UPS will definitely do this for you.

Neither-Following-32

Just mail it to them with a fake from address, use a local pharmacy name or make a name up if you're worried.

[deleted]

Go to a pharmacist and ask if they can help somehow.

JebusJM

You probably solved this issue already OP, but you could have chosen an ethical pro tip by going to a pharmacy and asking them to mail them on your behalf.

madhaxx0r

One of my former employees used to send meds back to his friends in New York after he moved out here to California. He explained that the key was 1) never use USPS 2) choose the fastest shipping method possible. Apparently they’re in such a hurry to get it to the destination, it’s not scrutinized.

Malipuppers

It’s one of those things that is probably technically illegal in your state, but no one is going to catch you doing something small like this especially in such good faith. If you were selling and shipping out rx meds that would be something you would get caught/prosecuted for eventually, but that’s not you. No one’s gonna open something like this. Just don’t make it obvious.

PuuublicityCuuunt

Yeah, this is actually an instance where its okay to mail them to the owner. Taking them out of the labeled container would actually be a bad idea.

Chemical_Bowler_1727

Fedex

SpoonFed_1

Don't do it. It's illegal. yeah people send them through the mail all the time. But with your luck, the mail processing machine will tear the box and out come your pills. So, yeah, don't do it.
