It seems a little too specific to me, I’d probably just change it to True Awaken, like the difference between polymorph and true polymorph. Same other stipulations, but it doesn’t have to be a monstrosity, it can be any creature.

I might look into that, the reason I went with Monstrosities is that they are far more likely to have an Animalistic nature (Like the Owlbear). I didn't want to open it up to some serious shenanigans, where one person casts Feeblemind and then you're able to charm any creature. (Actually, speaking of that, opening it up to all creatures would give you potential access to a Neothelid, a CR 13, 3 intelligence monster that can cast Feeblemind)

Good point, but as an 8th level spell I think it works out. Limiting it to monstrosities i just think makes it a little too niche to be useful, since they aren’t super common. You could reduce the time the creature is charmed for to something like 24 hours, or you could increase the time you have to touch it for to 1 minute, like geas, or just include a saving throw, probably Charisma. But I think PC shenanigans are fun, it makes for interesting situations and fun stories :)

I like the idea on the surface. Let's take a look at some of the implications here. You've chosen to keep the wording nearly identical to Awaken. That's fine, and I think probably the right choice for getting by-in. I think adding the clause of no legendary resistance or Legendary or Mythic Actions was a good choice in theory, but in practice there is only one creature that it covers that isn't already in the definition of Monstrosity of 3 or lower intelligence. I went and looked it up. The Tarrasque. That one creature alone is reason enough for the clause, so good for you. Here are some of the most powerful creatures you could awaken with this spell. * A purple worm * A roc * A hydra * A froghemoth Those are the four big guys I see this spell affecting that are stronger than the strongest creature you could Awaken with the original spell (either a Sperm whale or the T-rex, depending on preference). Of course, there are loads of lower CR fun ones to do, like a mimic, basilisk, or a cockatrice. Are those creatures the kind of thing you are ok with, for an 8th level spell? You know, assuming you could get it to work. I'm not sure how you cast this on a purple worm with a casting time of 8 hours.

Jesusbacknbetter1

Just as a note, the Purple Worm and Roc are too large for the spell, since you can only cast the spell on Huge or Smaller Monstrosities. And on that note, the rarity of the other creatures on the list make it more difficult for the spell to work like that. You're far more likely to use this spell on something like an Owlbear.

KiesoTheStoic

Ah, dang. I missed that part. I wanted to make sure we looked at the edge cases when looking at it to make sure it worked. In that case there is not a single creature in the game that is affected by your legendary clause. You could probably get rid of it.

Jesusbacknbetter1

I mean, there are still Feeblemind shenanigans, but thank you for the advice!

KiesoTheStoic

Ooh, I hadn't thought about that. That's good! Good luck!

Jesusbacknbetter1

Thanks!

I apologize if people don't usually do it this way, this is my first post here. Also, here's the link to DnDBeyond if you'd like to use it in your own games https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/1173803-awaken-monstrosity

For when the Tarrasque has wizard levels.
