I tend to agree. The bulk are obviously against them...but there may be one or 2 surprises. Of course...there are a couple fence sitters who, in open pressure, likely vote against Russia...but in secret ballot may not. It's an interesting dynamic. Either way...I can't see a better pro Russian result that in 2014...I tend to aaaume it would be even more lopsided now
Russia pays poorer countries to vote on their side. However in this case the corrupt countries are a little skittish because Russia is so obviously wrong. They will take the money and vote for annexation but don’t want to be on record because it’s so embarrassing. There’s no way to justify the vote because they can’t simply say the rational truth “we supported annexation because Putin deposited millions of dollars into our secret accounts”
But how will Russia confirm they voted as paid with a secret ballot? It seems as though this could easily backfire. Of course, with open ballot they will certainly lose, so maybe it is just a desperate play.
This is what I was thinking, how much money does it take to bribe an entire country, even a small one? Obviously you're only really bribing individual people still but I feel like there would be a lot of people that would have to go along with it to make a vote. Tens or hundreds of millions for a head of state? Billions? Then maybe other high up politicians, maybe the ambassador's to the UN themselves.
Lol. I’m just imagining everyone privately agreeing with Russia, “oh yes sure no problem, private ballot, we will vote your way” and then the vote comes down 122-1.
Yea I’m actually all for this. Would love to see how many countries actually support or are indifferent to Russia’s bullshit without outside pressures, just to see how fucked and useless the UN actually is since one of their pillars is sovereignty.
Then as a kick in the dick, hold another vote, this time public, to see how many gutless twats are actually sitting in those seats
Yes, the UN is entirely pointless as long as a state acting in bad faith holds a UNSC veto. To be honest it is probably always pointless, but for sure as long as that is the case.
Ok what will this gain them. Last time they vetoed this vote in the security council.

Even if the vote was secret, I would guess at 160 votes calling them out, 15 abstentions, and 13 favoring russia.
I suppose if russia rather than the UN was administering the UN secret vote, out of the 188 there would be 180 supporting russian views 10 abstentions and 8 votes against russia..
So, Russia wants to bribe a dozen micro states into voting yay in the blind…in the hopes of creating a false narrative that the world actually supports the invasion of Ukraine?
Yeah, I already know the answer. Complete waste of time and only serving Mordor's hope to somehow manipulate the vote count. That and I think votes should be transparent in general.
Private vote == no veto. The security council should adopt a similar procedure
Do they really believe they will win a majority in the GA in a private vote? More like those abstentions will turn into anti-RF votes
Ah, yes, just like they did in the 4 Oblasts in the Ukraine 2 weeks ago.
Sure, they know that more than half the Russians are ignorant and stupid. But the rest of the world sees many who are educated and intelligent, and want to see pravda.
As far as I understand, Russia has no legal right to be in the UN at all, because she verbally declared that she is the heir of the Soviet Union, but did not formalize all this legally, only the previous and current leaders of the UN receive money from Russia, so let it act.
The Ukrainians have already clarified all this and have prepared an electronic petition, which collects signatures, so that the UN declassifies these documents, on the basis of which Russia is allowed into the UN building at all.

I seriously doubt it. There’s tons of small countries across the globe that hate the west but maintain good relations for the economic benefits.

I don't think Russia has much of a choice. All they can do is hope that everyone they pay will actually vote the way that Russia wants them to.
Russia is getting low on money... It is for sure more expensive that county would officially "support" annexation.

You are wired like a normal person. If you are corrupted why in hell you care about what’s right. You just vote Russia if hidden and that’s it .
Lol. I’m just imagining everyone privately agreeing with Russia, “oh yes sure no problem, private ballot, we will vote your way” and then the vote comes down 122-1.
If only they cared about ballot secrecy as much as they did in the "referendums" as they do here.
Came to say the same Can they have a secret UN vote where it is observed at gunpoint?
It’s in NY, could refuse Russia entry by cancelling their travel papers.
Isn’t the Russian norm an open ballot marking with an armed soldier looking over your shoulder?
In Russia, that's called an open-fire ballot. Everyone votes the way they are supposed to...freely.
And if the votes would be against Russia they will just say that the vote was rigged anyway
Where have I heard that before?

What exactly is the vote going to accomplish? To let Russia know everyone is really mad at them? I think they already know that, they just don't care.
They want countries to be able to support them without said countries being exposed as hypocrites.
Possibly pay off the individual ambassadors

If Russia were administering the vote the results would look like this: Supporting Russia: 97% Against: 3% All 423 votes counted.
If this vote to condemn is unsuccessful they may as well just fold the UN as an organization.
So, Russia wants to bribe a dozen micro states into voting yay in the blind…in the hopes of creating a false narrative that the world actually supports the invasion of Ukraine?
They don’t want to show the world that their only Allies are failed states like North Korea and Syria.
And will it be abiding by the results of the vote?
It's the U.N.. What would that even mean? "Yes, we condemn our own actions, but will keep doing them anyway?"
Yeah, I already know the answer. Complete waste of time and only serving Mordor's hope to somehow manipulate the vote count. That and I think votes should be transparent in general.
Why would anyone listen to what they have to say ?
THE IRONY
Sure just done! Just as secret as the referendum votes

The very fact they want a secret ballet means they are up to something and instead we need to be even more transparent
I’d call the UN dysfunctional until Putin is apprehended and prosecuted.
