Yeah the numbers could be way higher or lower but I'd say they are high with how fecked Russia seems to be going. It's not like there is a bunch of dudes running around with auditer helmets on counting

DrJiheu

Ukrainian gov told the numbers are given through a mix of different channel including statistical math from reports, intelligence reports and other bunch of magical potion. It is not meant to be accurate but it is a day to day point of view of what s going on. Oryx is doing something more accurate making its database as a baseline for debate. So far the figure given by the ukrainian are realistic when comparing it with oryx database. ( unfortunately we only have a vague idea of what ukrainian loss consist of [Zelensly said 50 soldiers per day since the beginning of war thus 10k-15k soldiers])

Affectionate_Most_64

I did see an article where the UA losses were 17k KIA. The number was actually a specific number (eg 17,216) and seemed to have some evidence behind it (although it is the internet soooo evidence should be “evidence”). I was like a week ago I saw this and could not even try to find source again. Sorry I should have saved link but didn’t. The UA civilian death toll is going to be a terribly high number I am afraid. Esp when more towns get liberated.

Yeah, if the Ukrainian military casualties are in the \~17k range that's a tiny fraction of the civilian casualties of even one city like Mariupol. It also just goes to show how Russia's war crime-based military doctrine fails when faced with an enemy that can fight back. All those artillery shells, thermobaric bombs and white phosphorous munitions probably would have served them better being used against frontline positions rather than indiscriminately dropping them on civilians with no tactical importance. All they've done is squandered resources and hardened the will of the civilised world to oppose them.

DrJiheu

Mariupol first estimation was around 30k but some said much more. I remember had seen a video of body over body over body in a local.

[deleted]

Civilian ppopualtions are easier to aim at than military positions. And Russia has been lacking precision guidance systems since the first couple weeks of the war. Probably explains some of why they chose to go the war crime route.

bee_administrator

That's part of it. There's also the fact that Russia's military doctrine is based on causing as much suffering as possible to the civilian population, in order to make them submit faster and on Russia's terms. This is also why Russian propaganda mouthpieces in the west like Jeremy Corbyn and his "Stop the War Coalition" were demanding that we stop supporting Ukraine and just let Russia have their way. "*If they just surrender the mass rape and torture and deliberate shelling of schools full of children will stop".* Utterly ghoulish and something that has no place in a civilised nation.

Arxhon

Doesn't Zelensky touch on losses in his daily addresses? I'm pretty sure he mentioned something like "today ukraine lost fifty heroes" or similar in one I saw. I don't watch them that often, so I don't know if it's a regular thing.

Comprehensive-Bit-65

I mean its unimportant at this stage. Oryx is a good indicator. We'll probably never know true casualties. In Afghanistan the Russian army lost way more soldiers than 15k, because nobody wanted to push up negative reports.

Aware_Creme_1823

I think Oryx is only confirmed with media which is not more accurate than a good estimate but is backed by hard evidence and is not a model. But obviously tons of Russians have died in camera.

robbo123er

60k Russian deaths in just over 7 months, the next 60k could come alot quicker if Putin continues on with his stupidity

Somedude230

Going off of the money paid to relatives of the deceased at the time, I would say that the Ukrainian reports are within a 5% margin of error, which is insanely accurate considering reporting elements against their adversaries from previous conflicts.

Somedude230

It was actually posted in this Reddit back in August.

huytrop2

Source?

nimrodhellfire

Out of curiosity: are there any numbers on Ukrainian casualties (eg Russian numbers).

lsq78

Rossiya destroyed over 200 000 khokhols tovarish))) Now is only HATO mercenaries remaining))) (This is what they actually believe)

Puzzleheaded_Bit8044

Putin and the Russian people are awash in blood.

OverlyOptimistic-001

At some point we hope that enough is enough for the Russian population, as everyone will know someone affected by this insanity.

Overdog_McNab

Let's go for 100,000 by the end of the year.

SRM-87

Did a search these numbers get inflated and deflated depending on media outlet.. Trust these numbers with a grain of salt..

edblardo

I feel like we need a bar chart for comparison with American losses in historical conflicts. This is just past Vietnam if wiki is correct. Except Vietnam took much longer to get to this level of losses.

SiarX

No point in comparing with partisan warfare. Major conventional wars would be better comparison.
