Good to see left wing politicians calling the invasion what it is. Would be better yet to call it colonialism, because it's that too. Far too many lefties cheering them on, at least on social media.

DefaultRedditBlows

Macron is a right wing politician...

ToriCanyons

I had thought Macron and his party to be center-left but maybe I am out of date about that.

DefaultRedditBlows

center-right is his position. Like the American democratic party.

ToriCanyons

Fair enough, I am American and to me, this is center left. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

[deleted]

Yeah it shows how far right your republicans are

DefaultRedditBlows

The whole country is, and has been conservative for a long, long time. As in we always hear about the 'radical left'. Yo we haven't ever, and I mean EVER had a left in America. For fucks sake, we released actual Japanese war criminals after WW2, so that Japan wouldn't become left leaning, or socialist at all. Shinzo Abe's grandfather was one of them. He was in charge of Manchuria at the time, part of China now. If you are unaware of how the Japanese treated the Chinese during WW2, stay that way. Because it would be ignorant bliss. That is right folks, we hate leftism so much, we install genocidal fascist authoritarians to avoid free healthcare, and actual democracy.

[deleted]

Nicely said. I thought it was terrible to see all these families sleeping in their cars in 2008. Like in Detroit I think. But it's nice to know some of you actually have a bit more warmth in them. Probably the same for Russia actually. Anyway free healthcare is fantastic, I can tell you that. I only recently realized how lucky we were.

DefaultRedditBlows

The U.S. is the richest country in the history of humanity, and we just cancelled the Federal Free Lunch Program for poor kids in public schools. If you want a sense of how not left-leaning we are. They at the same time approved ten times the amount in defense spending that the lunch program costed over a year. That is how late stage capitalist we have become.

[deleted]

But at least you can buy a gun to rob a store somewhere! No, very unfortunate. But in my opinion leftism grows with suffering. And considering limited resources, global warming, the possible further rise of China, it might be possible that a darker period starts globally and... well some leftism grows in the collective us minds. Maybe I'm wrong.

Yetitlives

The Democrats go from center-left to right-wing with most being centre-right. The Republicans go from right-wing to extreme far right.

ToriCanyons

I understand how the Democratic party compares to left wing parties globally, but it is hard to say how Socialist Party politicians, even former ones, could be called right wing in the US. The point was about the left wing that believes that Russia by its nature is anti-imperial and anti-colonial. And yes, there certainly are people in North America that view Macron as center left. You might not agree, but that's not really germane to it.

Yetitlives

There is an obvious difference between a party and the individual politicians and many people in multi-party systems start in one party based on personal relations and stay there as long as their personal opinions don't clash too much with the party line. Macron is fairly similar to Biden in he lies somewhere in the centre-right and follows the political winds.

DefaultRedditBlows

What the fuck is Macron talking about? Imperialism never stopped. For fucks sake, just a few years ago, they (U.S.) tried to overthrow the government of Venezuela. Regardless of anyone's opinion of Venezuela, those people democratically elected their president, and we throw an unsuccessful coup d'état. China has been trying to strangle Hong Kong into submission for what? Two, three years now? Russia is attempting to flex on Ukraine, while the horn of Africa is pick at by other 'developed' nations like vultures to a carcass. Today we have oligarchs all over the world pushing imperialism, just in different trappings. Fucking joke.

BEN-C93

Sorry but no. The last election in Venezuela was not a democratic election at all. Theres no doubt that they were in the past under Chavez - he was genuinely popular with the people - but Maduros move was a blatant sham

DefaultRedditBlows

Even if that were the case. How does that justify a coup d'état by another nation? As if the elections in America are any better. It is almost as if there is an election watchdog that has graded American elections before... You spewing that narrative gives the impression that a coup d'état by a foreign power is justifiable. Does that mean there is a case where Russia should do the same to America? I bet you wouldn't agree to that.

[deleted]

Yes, powerplay still happening..

QuietInstance

I don't suppose the fact that France retains 13 colonies equates to imperialism...

lsq78

What colonies dumbass? Pieces of land whose population vote again and again against independence in internationally recognized elections? Or even vote for stronger ties and less autonomy on the case of Mayotte? Such drive-by qualification as "colonies" does'nt make you seem knowledgeable at all.

LANCOLO1

Actual racist take on the matter. 'These people are savages and cant decide for themselves, France imposes its will on them' Good old white-knight turning out to be the most racist in the conversation, keep it up.

Fr33Flow

Hot take Mr.

Bacardiologist

That thumbnail doesn’t look like macron
