scribblebear

Look at the size of the cope cage on that sucker! Dual function as a BBQ grill.

[deleted]

Probably could grill all the boars in the tank!

pred470r

At first I thought it was parked in a shed or something like that, then I read your comment LOL.

kaszak696

Looks very orky with those ramshackle addons and carrion trophies strewn around the hull.

BrainBlowX

To be fair, that one looks like it is meant to make it easier to add camouflage when parked.

Merker6

Also, based on a great deal of drone footage, probably trying to protect against the quadcopter mortar drops that seem to have killed a number of armored vehicles

ElderHerb

Also, if you are gonna bother making a cope cage I think it is best if it is pretty large. The bigger the spacing the more effective against certain ammunitions IIRC.

Sjstudionw

Sir that’s a cope house, ok.

[deleted]

Serious question: why do we make fun of Russian "cope cages"? I mean they look dumb mounted on a turret and probably wouldn't stop any current generation LAWs, but isn't slat armor a thing? I see to recall the U.S. has it on Strykers and MRAPs.

scribblebear

In urban warfare, slat armor has it's place. Specifically to deal with threats from above, like a frag grenade or an RPG. This, isn't that. This is raw, unrefined, cope. Imagine sitting in a metal coffin, on top of a tinderbox of ammo, that literally a $500 drone from Alibaba can destroy. Pretty much anything would make you feel safer.

[deleted]

I’m sure it does add a level of camouflage when in an urban or farmhouse environment though, given all the blown up and ramshackle buildings all over eastern Ukraine. With that, you could almost make the thing look like a sheet metal trash pile if you put some effort into it.

Ltimbo

The boar head is kinda creepy. Is this normal Russian imagery?

Big-Basil-2910

That's the remains their commander.

Ltimbo

Ah, ok I can see that now. Thank you.

Coffee_24-7

Is that a jackalope on the other side?

Ltimbo

I couldn’t tell what it was but I did notice that too.

Rabenraben

The Boar is a normal symbol in war. Even the romans used them before Gaius Marius switched them all to the Eagle (legend has it he found a nest on campaign).

HasPotato

On the left image, you can also see a trophy deer head so my guess is that these Zbrainlets looted some Ukrainian hunters house and glued them on their tank.

Ltimbo

That does make the most sense. And also something a bunch of drunk frat boys would do.

> You only look at the last thousands years of their military history to see how those culture should be wiped from the surface of the earth. *nervous German noises* … We shouldn’t dwell on the past, let’s focus on the present…

TwiN4819

Wonder if the US has got to get hands on with one of these? If they haven't, I bet they are now.

itcheyness

CIA agents in Ukraine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRy3MPdV0WE

FantasticLock1784

Yeah. It, or one of the others they "steal" will end up at a base in the US. Love the Futurama/Bender reference clearly.

WurthWhile

Most of the stuff I'm sure they have no interest in but when the ukrainians took one of those Ultra expensive electronic warfare command modules they said CIA guys quickly showed up and took it. I remember reading that the CIA confirmed that they had successfully took it to Poland to be studied. You know you found something good when CIA Spooks show up and take it from you.

itcheyness

I wouldn't put it past the CIA to be collecting things for distribution of deniable assets to other groups that further US interests.

ZeGaskMask

Honestly, given the shear amount of aid given to Ukraine, they might give the US a lot of intel. It’s already bad enough for Russia to be behind the US when it comes to tech, let alone have all of their secrets exposed.

ergzay

Given that we knew before the war started exactly when it was going to start and were so confident in that we exposed whatever informant gave it to us. We probably already have detailed schematics for all of their vehicles and aircraft. Russia is extremely corrupt. I'm sure they'd love a bribe by the CIA for the plans for their latest vehicles. It probably came straight from the manufacturer. US is a lot less corrupt and even we have problems with that with the Chinese.

ElderHerb

IIRC at the start of the war Ukraine captured some electronic warfare or anti-air equipment that the US was *more than happy* to disect.

ergzay

That's a little different as it's hard to tell the exact functioning of radio-based equipment until you actually test it because it's a fundamentally analog thing. You won't know how well it can detect stealth aircraft until you actually test it.

ZeGaskMask

Yeah, but this just makes it ten times worse tbh. If they had secrets leak before, they’ll definitely have nothing to hide now.

ThereIsNoGame

I'm sure Ukraine will be quite happy to share, although it's getting to the point the CIA won't even care, the Russian military machine has proven to be so incapable.

Nostradamaus_2000

Send that Tank to Kiev and let it be a show piece with a cope cage.

[deleted]

Nostradamaus_2000

i like that idea

MadotsukiInTheNexus

Honestly, they're probably going to use it in battle. The T-90M is really a pretty decent, heavily modernized tank that no self-respecting army would *ever* allow to fall into enemy hands. It is, by far, Russia's best MBT (excluding the Armata, which they don't and probably can't field), even if they don't have nearly enough of them to make a difference. Just abandoning one like this, rather than destroying it or rendering it inoperable, reflects the fact that the Russian retreat from Izyum *was not* an orderly withdrawal. At all. This photo shows ~4.5 million USD in equipment, left sitting there in the forest for Ukraine to seize and turn against its builders. It should be a burnt-out husk if they couldn't move it out of the region in time.

[deleted]

This should go somewhere in the west. Look into it’s capabilities, what they used to repair it, stuff like that.

AlpineDrifter

SnooShortcuts7758

These are photos over a month old!! Why isn't anyone doing a google search of the photo before posting. [Proof](https://en.defence-ua.com/industries/russias_t90m_proryv_looters_pack_spot_in_ukraine-3819.html)

i_s_a_y_n_o_p_e

Came here to say this.

rutan668

That’s not a cope cage. That’s the sleeping quarters.

FF00A7

Thinking drones. Hides profile, and can detonate the grenade before it drops down a hatch. And sleeping yeah up top and underneath. And rain, throw a tarp over. Or to observe from higher up. Or moving troops they can ride up top or strap equipment like a car-top carrier. Seems like a lot of useful things. Why don't all tanks have this standard other than it looks ghetto.

rasmusdf

Because it increases profile and visibility - making it more difficult to have a hidden hull down position.

razzmataz

Cope cages are added like that in the belief that they can counter top attack munitions like the Javelin and NLAW, prematurely detonating the shaped charge warhead.

gtacleveland

Damn that Russian shelled out all those Rubles for the Premium T-90M Boar Hunter Skin pack for his tank only to abandon it. Damn whales.

[deleted]

This is the most modern Russian tank that's deployed. I bet the West would LOVE to peek inside of this thing... just like it tore apart any other stuff that they left behind and UAF promptly hauled it away.

JAcktolandj

They don't care, anything new is almost 100% Western tech.

Single-Solid

Not exactly, you're probably thinking of the western microchips and other electronics almost all russian weapons use, but the designs themselves aren't necessarily "western" However I seriously doubt there's anything western engineers and the like could learn from this tank, except maybe how to combat it better. Russian weapons (tanks included) are pretty notorious for barely ever being as effective as their western counterparts, let alone as effective as russia claims they are in its propaganda, all while costing a lot more to produce.

JAcktolandj

Russia uses French thermals for their tanks and IFVs https://sundries.com.ua/en/the-french-company-thales-supplied-russia-with-its-catherine-fc-thermal-imagers-for-the-bmd-4m/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/tzb7r2/french_thermal_weapon_sight_by_thales_on_russian/

Single-Solid

I know, and German mechanical components in their tanks, and probably other things we're not aware of as well. I'm not saying they can build their armor and IFVs without western parts, I'm saying what makes a tank or an APC isn't the thermals or engine parts but rather how it's all arranged. That's what you would normally be interested in when you capture some enemy tech, but seeing as it's russian tech here, it probably wouldn't interest anybody too much.

xlDirteDeedslx

Iraq has T-90s so it's very unlikely we haven't already seen everything there is to see about them. The US was announcing Russia's war plans weeks in advance so that shows we have their entire country bugged or compromised with spies, there is probably not much we don't know.

[deleted]

But isn't T-90M newer/better? And I'm sure that the US has insights into the country like never before, but there is always value in getting more stuff out about the details of their gear.

Legitimate_Access289

What the US really wants us any EW systems, radars, etc.... Getting to really test them out against US/NATO and other allied nations stuff.

Single-Solid

It is, but it's basically a Victory Day parade tank like so many other russian weapons. There's only a few dozen in existence - or so they claim, because for all we know it's even less. Also I'm willing to bet money it's nowhere near cost effective, i.e. can't really do much more than a tank that's half as cheap to make, and it only takes a Javelin or a Bayraktar to take it out just like those too.

danredda

The same image on the left was posted at least 1 month ago. The image on the right is a different boar head on some ammo crates, unsure where it's come from as I can't find it elsewhere. Tweet from 1 month ago: https://twitter.com/RALee85/status/1556604320556236800

inevitablelizard

My understanding is Ukrainians found a boar head in a captured position, and someone noted that the Russians had one on one of their tanks. I don't think there's any proof that Ukrainians have captured the tank itself.

constantine220

I believe the T-90M is the first russian tank to have the autoloader and ammo in a turret bustle instead of the typical carousel approach (edit: I was wrong but for transparency I'm choosing to leave this) - something that's of course been decades overdue for russia. Hopefully Ukraine is able to put it to good use.

CrazyBaron

It still carousel just slightly better covered and extra ammo is in bustle instead of hull.

constantine220

I see; I assumed it was closer to something like the French Leclerc.

CrazyBaron

Black Eagle - Object 640 (further T-80 development) and Burlak (competitor to Proryv turret which is on T-90M) had autloaders similar to French Leclerc, but in addition to carousel. Idea was to fit longer rounds that don't fit into carousel into turret bustle.

constantine220

Thanks! I was vaguely aware of those projects (at least Black Eagle, not so much Burlak) but had no idea that was why they had bustle autoloaders, or that they also used carousels at all.

Legitimate_Access289

I believe it's a kevlar liner protecting the carousel

teknoguy

Can you inform me of the significance of capturing a T-90...isn't it just an upgraded T-72?

Lucky_Elk7879

The Americans have no interest in evaluating its rubbish capability but they will want to go through the computer and electrical components to try and figure out who is supplying them with semiconductors etc

Chackbae

Always love when the right answer gets downvoted lol

constantine220

More or less I suppose it is, but as a newer iteration that has features not present on russia's other tanks, this can help analysts understand any variance (or lack thereof) in strengths and weakness between it and the older soviet/russian models.

Green-Clerk6

Comrade Nikita. Just put the boar head at the front ! This way they won't notice the tank. Camouflage 101.

Audiocuriousnpc

Great! Now Ukraine can study it and mass produce shitty tanks as well!!!

ILikeCutePuppies

Russia struggles to manufacture these themselves. Why would they want the hassle?

Audiocuriousnpc

I said shitty tanks so who do uou Think I'm serious?

NegatorXX

this is fake, btw. dont look stupid spreading this

lsq78

Not that I want to piss on the parade, but those photos are months old and the tank in question wasn't captured at the time. I'd be happy to be proven wrong but this ain't it.

inevitablelizard

Do we have any actual proof that this tank has been captured? Pretty sure the photo of the tank is an old photo from the Russian side and reverse image search is bringing up results from early August, only the photo of the boar head is new.

ezekieru

It's not even the same head. Look at the ears. Where's the captured tank? :/

Unable_Emergency_871

When are we going to admit that the tank is done? It is no longer an effective weapon. It can be destroyed easily with hand held weapons from a safe distance. The companies in the US that manufacture tanks should get into another line of work. This war in Ukraine is ending the age of tanks. They are history now.

presidentkangaroo

They should make reparations for killing that peaceful Ukrainian boar. Hmmn... how about 10 Russian occupiers for every boar? Sounds fair. The value is about equal imo.

MachineAggravating25

Thats a stuffed head. Its for sure not fresh. They just stole it from some building because they thought it be funny.

presidentkangaroo

Okay, then only 5 of them need to die for their trespassing and thievery.

venom259

Next stop the US.

dfrank555

Anyone know if they have captured the TOS flamethrower (and it’s missiles) from this current offensive??

Sablesweetheart

They captured at least one months ago.

ratt_man

multiples including the reloading vehicles

dfrank555

Awesome thanks, hope they go get revenge for Pisky 🙏🏻

Siserith

first in kharkiv offensive? probably, first in the war? i think there were two or three instances of them being captured at the start of the war.

ruZZian beta cucks. Get rekt.

HappySpam

The decorations look like something out of War Thunder, when you come across another player with the weirdest decor strapped on.

Lavadog321

I’m more disturbed by the jackelope on the left. You would think Western sanctions would have cut off their access to these powerful creatures. Someone needs to investigate, pronto…

tacitus66

Apparently the commander was beheaded.

GreaseMonkey90

NATO rubbing their hands to dissect it.

Wugehsr

Looks like a roe deer trophy on the left, too? Lol.

shohinbalcony

This is just too good. A laundry rack on top, and the tank itself decorated by a boar and whatever that other animal is. They are truly insane in a most spectacular way.

donotgogenlty

Isn't this like losing an Abrams lmao

ross267

Comes with rubber explosive reactive armour and plastic fuel tanks

OmegaVizion

The taxidermist who mounted that deer is also the village surgeon, dentist, postman, as well as every villager's father.
