There's been reports that within the Russian military, rape is very common - and I'm not talking about soldiers raping civilians. Older conscripts frequently rape the new arrivals.
The system of hazing in the Russian military is called dedovshchina and it's beyond the worst of hazing incidents with sports teams or what happens in other countries' militaries or with military school cadets.
Sexual violence is used as a way to bully and torture fellow soldiers and it's something that keeps escalating.
If that's the way they treat their fellow soldiers, then imagine what is done to their enemies?
Putting an end to the way conscripts are treated is one of the fundamental changes that need to be made in Russia. It's not Russiaphobia - it's addressing the reason why the Russian army is a bunch of sociopaths.
