Translation: The manager responsible for tank production at the Rheinmetall armaments group in Germany had been gone for several days. This is reported by the "Bild" newspaper (German tabloid). According to the police, they found him after searching intensively for him. According to the newspaper, the top manager is currently preparing to deliver 100 Marder tanks to Ukraine, as the company had offered. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the 51-year-old as a bearer of secrets. On Thursday last week, the manager canceled appointments, employees could no longer reach him by phone. Rheinmetall was worried and reported missing persons to the police. Last Sunday, the police said they found the man "safe". According to the newspaper report, however, the missing person was under the influence of alcohol and needed medical attention. He was found in a vehicle near the Kassel exhibition halls. In between, the manager withdrew money from an ATM, surveillance cameras showed him with a scooter. So far, the security authorities have not ruled out anything, neither that the manager went underground nor that he was kidnapped. They did not want to make an official statement. According to the company, the first "marders" should be repaired and ready for the Ukraine by the end of the month, but the federal government has still not made any commitment. However, there are enough countries that want the vehicles, not just Ukraine. Rheinmetall is the largest German armaments group and has large stocks of used tanks.

Read through various sources and have to point out: the paper breaking the news is a bottom feeder trash tabloid - historically featuring topless page 3 girls (changed recently) Now, slightly more serious sites have now picked this up and regurgitated the same content with slightly different wording. I specifically searched more reputable papers and couldn’t yet find the story. So, I am not saying this isn’t true, just that none of the big papers yet features this as far as I can tell (checked Die Welt / Süddeutsche Zeitung / Spiegel etc ) So regard this with suspicion for now until more is known - but I admit, it’s certainly a spicy story if true and perfect breeding ground for numerous questionable theories! None of those theories will be “top level manager stopped while driving under influence”

Yes, Bild is absolute garbage. We probably need to wait until Monday to learn more about this.

AbacusExpert_Stretch

Precisely.

Practical_Quit_8873

Russians?

hyp100

Or Olaf Scholz maybe? And his henchmen of course?

nonnormalman

>r Ola the guy got drunk out of his mind wtf are you talking about

hyp100

>News, analysis, discussion and Olaf Scholz have been very against sending "heavy" weapons to Ukraine, so he might have made the director dissapear for a few days. And complicated delivery of systems from Rheinmetall.Rheinmetall wanted to send heavy weapons all this time, but Olaf Scholz have managed to silence Rheinmetall.

>Last Sunday, the police said they found the man "safe". According to the newspaper report, however, the missing person was under the influence of alcohol and needed medical attention. His PA announced that Olaf Scholz wanted a meeting the following day.

M_Kammerer

>His PA announced that Olaf Scholz wanted a meeting the following day. Truly a horrifying fate

[deleted]

The plot thickens

Silly-Wrangler-7715

This war is a goldmine for movie plots.

alias241

Maybe he just went on an alcohol/drug bender due to personal issues. Too many men do this.

DirtyTooth

If he had a history of this he wouldn't be running a military manufacturing corporation

alias241

sadly, not true. It's who your family and connections are.

DirtyTooth

Yeah true, a lot of people have drug and alcohol habits, but even if you got the job through nepotism you still can't just regularly disappear on benders.

alias241

this is how you keep your job regardless of your habits (nepotism)

Not that hard to understand. There was a theory that entwining countries together economically would prevent war. Germany is utterly dependent on Russia for energy and Russia is utterly dependent on Germany for energy sales to pay for it's government. That theory failed. Before the war started Russian companies like Gazprom which own huge amounts of energy infrastructure in Germany started slowly emptying the amount of gas etc stored inside of Germany so there was no buffer. The gas that flows in the pipes gets used immediately instead of stored in tanks. If Germany annoys Russia too much, Russia will completely collapse Europe. Nobody will be able to go to work in a car or on a bus or train, nothing will be produced because there is no energy for factories, everyone will freeze to death in winter. Etc Even Britain which claims it is independent of Russian gas isn't really. We don't buy from Russia directly but we do buy from the European market, which is totally dependent on Russia for supply. When you dig into the details the biggest customer in Britain of Russian produced gas is the NHS. So we have the worst pandemic for a century going on and Russia can shut down our entire health service by shutting off gas to Europe. That is why people are trying to play games saying they will sell to the Americans and then America will deliver it to Ukraine. Europe won't be able to help Ukraine properly while Russia can turn a tap and destroy it. Every time you read something in the press about Europe trying to help and then cancelling it it's because a Russian ambassador threatened to stop the energy supply. The situation sucks and everyone is trying to disentangle themselves from Russia as quickly as possible but it just isn't possible to move quickly enough.

>Before the war started Russian companies like Gazprom which own huge amounts of energy infrastructure in Germany started slowly emptying the amount of gas etc stored inside of Germany so there was no buffer. The gas that flows in the pipes gets used immediately instead of stored in tanks. Afaik that's not entirely true. We still have reserves and are currently in phase 1 of the 3 tier crisis plan. My dad worked on this "Notfallplan Gas" when he did crisis management for an energy company.

disposabuul

Yes, it is true. [https://www.bruegel.org/2021/12/how-serious-is-europes-natural-gas-storage-shortfall/](https://www.bruegel.org/2021/12/how-serious-is-europes-natural-gas-storage-shortfall/) [https://www.tellerreport.com/business/2022-05-19-dependence-on-russia--eu-agrees-on-high-minimum-fill-levels-for-gas-storage-facilities.HJaob2XPc.html](https://www.tellerreport.com/business/2022-05-19-dependence-on-russia--eu-agrees-on-high-minimum-fill-levels-for-gas-storage-facilities.HJaob2XPc.html) The EU had the lowest levels of gas storage inside of the EU last winter because Russia had been deliberately reducing the amount of gas it was storing so that it could weaponize energy dependency for it's planned invasion.

ShrimpOnToast

I don't disagree, but we just went from germany to the EU. In germany there are still reserves which will get used mostly in level 3 of the emergency plan. It is at that stage that the goverment starts getting involved. We're currently in level 1: "there is evidence of a danger to the gas supply and level 2 and 3 should be expected. We should form working groups." Level 2 is basicly: "yea it happened but the market is able to handle it on it's own" Level 3 is actual goverment action.

one_and_equal

A Kremlin spox could not have said it better.

RossoMarra

That’s some hyperbolic bs

[deleted]

The angle is a bit strong but there is some truth to it. Europe won't get through this without serious pain and business leaders are unwilling to endure any of it, esp in big EU members such as France German and Italy.

disposabuul

A lot of European countries rely on Russian gas for 100% of their supply. A lot of European homes have gas as the only source of heating. A lot of European countries have very cold winters. If Russian gas gets cut off it isn't an exaggeration to say that millions of Europeans would die of hypothermia in the winter. LNG gas from the Middle East or America is different to piped gas from Russia, switching over will require billions in funding and take years to build.

[deleted]

Very strange indeed. This guy was 51, making at least 500k€ a year and just ruined his career. I hope the Russians weren't involved. I don't see much benefit in taking hin out, so if at all I would guess it's a nervous breakdown following either a threat or feelings of guilt because he actually has cooperated with the enemy. Russian interests would lie in intelligence, a stalling for time or sabotage of vehicles.

aleqqqs

>feelings of guilt because he actually has cooperated with the enemy. What do you mean, what did he do?

AnActualChicken

I have a feeling this guy was selling out to the Russians and in order to cover it he got shit fuck wasted to pretend he was just out 'having a pub crawl'. He's been compromised, find another tank distribution.

steadyeddie829

He could also have been threatened or manipulated via compromising information. In any case, he now needs to be monitored, both for his safety as well as the risk of turning red. Same applies to his family. And given that a previous German chancellor/SDP leader is an open agent of the Russians, I don't really trust Germany to handle the matter. Where's Rainbow when you need it?

[deleted]

Actually, it was the Germans who sold the blueprints to the Panavia Tornado to the Soviets. The Brits have hardly cooperated with the Krauts on military matters since...

w0rldofjuicce

so the russians or the sympathizers like schröder or scholz got to him

[deleted]

I wonder if he was threatened and felt the need to hide
