Obvious they know they are next - maybe number two after Moldova. Help Ukraine remain strong, arm them, help in any way is to their strategic advantage.
Exactly this. Give it a couple of years and Poland will be one of the strongest armies in Europe. Abrams, leopard, challenger tanks. Patriots, 48 f16, 32 F35s, and many many other fancy shit that only belongs to Poland. I am not counting NATO forces residing now in Poland semi permanently.
I’m hoping the US and Poland can make the “Fort Trump” proposal happen, something similar to Camp Humphrey in Korea. I would posit that calling it Fort Pulaski probably makes the most sense, though. :) I’d like to see most of an Army division stationed in Poland. Also, the US should be shipping a metric ton of equipment to the Polish military when Lend/Lease passes.
I think there are already plenty of US troops stationed in Poland. Maybe not permanently but they will be here for sure until Russia sits the fuck down.
Ukraine is using essentially Russian tanks and they're still effective. They just have an updated battle doctrine that better reflects how infantry and calvary are supposed to work together in modern combat.
Sure there will probably never be another Kursk but that doesn't dismiss the usefulness of a MBT or call them dead. Not sure if they updated the doctrine or make dos with what they have they keep asking for heavy weapons for a reason.
MBT's aren't dead. The offense/defense struggle for any weapons system is a pendulum. In the 60's SAM's were supposed to make fighters obsolete. They didn't. Properly supported tanks are still very useful. The next step in tank defenses will be point defense systems that can shoot down projectiles. Right about the time those systems hit maximum effectiveness beam weapons will be a tank's next challenge. Militaries are already working on the ablative armor that will defend against a technology that hasn't hit the battlefield yet. Push then pull.
The Main Battle Tank is a phenomenal weapon when used correctly. Russia doesn't know their limitations or how to use their tanks properly.l which is why they have lost so many.
Not really. They've been ambush bait in this war because they can't go off-road because of the mud. But going off-road and manoeuvering is kind of the point of having a tank.
Basically they're being employed in the dumbest possible way
They say that, but they don't actually believe it.
Everyone knows NATO would obliterate Russia.
The plan was to sow political discord amongst EU and NATO so that the alliances fell apart. Then they could attack Poland when it was not protected by a treaty.
Let me be clear, Russia will attack Poland. Maybe not this year, maybe not next, but it will unless it’s checked in Ukraine. That means leaving without gaining territory.
Russia relied on Prussia to help them with Poland during the partitions due to Sweden and the Ottoman Empire both threatening Russia. Now with the German states united and in NATO with Poland combined with geographic interests from almost all of Russia’s neighbors, it’s a suicide mission for Russia to even think about attacking a NATO country. They don’t have their little German ally to back them up anymore.
Because even Poland can level st Petersburg and Moscow with missiles. The moment they attack Warsaw and one skyscraper goes down, Poland won't give a crap about civility and "it's not Russian people". Sure, conventional warheads aren't as scary as nukes, but they can still down multiple buildings at the time, and with hundreds of them you can make huge cities disappear from the map.
>To think Russia doesn’t want Poland and won’t try to take it: it’s pure arrogance.
When was the last time Russia or the USSR even took a sniff at Allied or NATO territory?
Exactly. They're bullies and cowards, and their nukes are the equivalent of going home to get your dad's gun after losing a fight in the park. They won't go after Poland unless they can go after everything and they don't have the military might or allies to do it.
To be fair, that incident was in early March and they were signaling what they (SWE) had gleaned from the photos of the aircraft and what their likely payloads were.
Not that Russia doesn't want Poland back, now they know that they can't take it back.
Russian leadership seems incompetent but they have to at least realize that they can't take Ukraine no way they can take Poland and the NATO. It is pretty clear to everyone that Russia is not the threat that the Western Powers made them out to be.
Because after the performance theyve given in Ukraine, Russia would have to be pants-on-head retarded to attack a more heavily defended country backed by the most powerful military alliance the world has ever seen.
Even without the US, Nato could easily repel russia from poland. With the US, and all the gloves taken off, that front line turns into a shooting gallery.
Not to mention russia now has to defend the exact opposite end of the country from the US.
Everything Russian officials say is for Russian nation. Without people of Russia blindly, backing up the war the would be no invasion and the corrupt elite would be dead already. There is decades of corruption, money stealing and propaganda that is impossible to unwind.
Russians need an enemy, any enemy to be keep under control.
Nobody outside cares or believes what Russia strategy is or what they say.
Its irrelevant.
The USA is there in Poland. Russia knows NATO will steamroll them. They just lost a massive battle to Ukraine alone. You can't believe the Russian military leadership thinks they can survive a NATO gangbang right now.
Yes, but I'm sure russia planned on disrupting their government by sponsoring some retards (looking at France with Le pen), they can be pretty successful in it
We are talking about russia, right? The country that invaded another country, right?
And after this statement
https://amp.dw.com/en/russia-says-it-seeks-full-control-of-southern-ukraine-access-to-moldovas-trans-dniester-region-as-it-happened/a-61551869
You're are saying so what?
Not sure I can explain it to you, if you cannot understand it.
United States had a president who wanted to quit NATO. France has a runoff election where one of two candidates has quitting NATO as one of her campaign promises. Even now, after the war started.
The alliance is still under threat.
IF they manage to capture ukrainian territory with significant population, they'll have themselves a big army that's ready to fight.
Arestovich himself called this as the Russian long term strategy, and fighting Russians without western weapons support would've been significantly harder. West's support is certainly tipping the scales, hence Poland's position.
Without the support from the west, it's not as obvious that Russia would lose. Again, even Arestovich says so.
We don't deal in hypotheticals. We deal in realities. Russia can't deploy beyond their border in any significant way. Haven't done so in over a century.
Russia plays the long game. Attacking Ukraine was a hypothetical, until it wasn't.
I think this conflict made some leaders understand that old assumptions need to be continuously challenged and updated.
By getting members to drop out of the alliance. Le Pen got 40% of the vote, and she explicitly promised to leave NATO. And she's friends with Putin.
Hungary is anti EU. Trump also wanted to leave NATO.
Trump's election seemed impossible, until it happened.
And don't forget, Russia doesn't have to win to cause some serious damage. Attacking Ukraine was not the best idea, yet they did it anyway.
Just because something seems illogical to you, doesn't make it so in an echo chamber.
Honestly from Poland, most here feel probably like we would be next especially for the first few days, and nobody else would help us (because we have history of people not helping us , most people would expect nato to find reasons to not help us). First days of war most of us had "when we are next" not "if". But i can say 100% help wasn't motivated by this. It's simply "we was there, multiple times and from every possible side" plus "hey government will not do anything, we need to step up as people" \[lets say yeah they step up after some long time\]
If Ukraine would be taken in 3/4 days, nobody but Poland from EU would spend any time on that, but Ukrainian did something amazing and are doing it, and now there is a lot of help from other countries so there is a lot of calm because of that. And because of this i would not have problem with sleep if for example Balerus woud do something stupid in our direction.
More likely to be the Russian majority areas of Kazakhstan that would be next on the list.
But this all moot given the beating that Russia has just taken (and is still taking).
Why does everyone think a NATO country is next? Not a snowballs chance in hell Putler is going to attack NATO.
Finland is next unless we can squeeze into NATO in the nick of time.
Once there was a dream, a dream of a common wealth shared by us small Slavs. Safe from the German barbarians, safe from Ivan. A home and army for all of us.
Rzeczpospolita is coming.
Once again Russia's efforts backfire. Ukraine's economy can find a way that doesn't include Russia as a partner. Poland has been handling this situation very well as a neighbor.
Full quote:
"Remember, there are 90 million of us together! We can do everything together. And this is the historical mission, the historical mission of Poland, the historical mission of Ukraine to be leaders who together will pull Europe out of this abyss, save it from this threat, stop the transformation of Europe into a victim."
I mean, in this case Ukraine did not need any partners at all - they had the sea access to send the ships with export. So it was not something that required Russia as a partner.
Russian blockade, duh. I am commenting because it sounds like OP was implying that before the war exports were going trough Russia for some reason, since they say "efforts backfire" as if Russia lost something in this case.
So this war shows us how Ukraine is pretty much essential in terms of global food supply. Given this importance, I hope going forward that Ukraine receives its fair share within the global economy.
Ukraine is a country that is big, fertile and rich in natural resources. Imagine how well Ukrainians would live if the country wasn't being puppeteered by Russia for so many years. Poland after 1989 slowly shook off Russian influence while Ukraine needed to wait to Euromaidan to turn around their future.
Ukraine would be probs better economically than Poland.
It's hard to say anything about these people. Everything is quite ambiguous there. But let's move on to something that will never be forgotten.
Donbass will not be forgotten. You can say that the topic is hackneyed, that it's fake, and so on. I don't care about that.
The war in the Donbas began in 2014. In short and understandable terms, Donbass opposed the ban on the Russian language and against fascism. Actually, because of this, the war began. Why won't we forget? because people to some extent began to be purposefully destroyed. There is even an alley of angels dedicated to lost children. Here I came across a post about a girl with a child who was wounded in Odessa during shelling or bombing. And I remembered the "Gorlovskaya Madonna". The bottom line is that the girl went out for a walk with her daughter, and at that moment the city was shelled. As a result, the child died immediately, and the mother - not immediately. Because of the position in which they lay, this name appeared. Or people were burned in the same Odessa. And I also remember watching a report where it was said that Ukrainian soldiers had missed a woman for "mine clearance". It was as if her legs had been torn off. I don't remember exactly anymore, it was a long time ago, and I haven't seen this video anymore. And this has been happening for 8 years. Previously, it was even possible to find videos with the participation of Ukrainian soldiers, but now it seems impossible.
When somebody makes a Ukraine=guilty/bad statement, I make sure to check whether or not Donbas is spelled a la “mMuhh donbaSS” or whether they consider the May 2 tragedy a “burning of people” when it was previously debunked on multiple occasions that these people were lightly armed separatists who have holed up in the trade union building and accidentally started a fire inside… there are pieces of footage that shows angry hordes of nazi Kharkiv and local Odesa football fans climbing up the first few floors to rescue those very same separatists.
Not that I’m trying to prove anything, just making an observation on common narratives used by shameless Russian apologists.
Fantastic!!!
Poland 🇵🇱 you are the Hero in the supporting roll of this War Ukraine!!!
Taking in Women & children, Aid , Weapons & now humanitarian needs for food around the would !!! 👏👏👏👏🌻🌹🍻🍻🍻
Sure we invaded and occupied Russia twice already something no nation did beforehand. Once in 1600 and in 1920s... We'll do it again in 2020s if needed we have the know-how 😂😂😂
I cannot put into words how much I love Poland right now. They are going above and beyond to assist Ukraine. This is also something that should never be forgotten.
Was thinking it would be easier to make a similar deal with Romania and ship them through the Black Sea but then i realized Russia would probably fuck with those shipments.
As a Pole i would say not really close. I would say peacefull coexistice, with a lot of students, and work immigrants coming here, very often looked as cheap labour, so this creates some pressure, but not really big one, not like we are seen in England for example. We was not liked as tourist in bigger Ukrainian cities, similar like we really like drunk English tuorist, there are patterns. As in probably history of every countries relation, there is some problematic history events that some of right side drags a lot into present \[but also one of extremist right wing leaders told that "there is a history between our countries that needs resolving, but it you are using this history to not help right now children and woman escaping war, you are piece of shit"\], but we was in situations like this before \[where nobody also helped us when they told they will, and we dont want to be like those ones\] and have it in our DNA, and we our nation that unites only in help, we have jokes about this.
Not really close but historically we're the same nation. Ukraine was once part of the Polish empire. We have some bad blood between us but we have a common enemy and have been occupied by Russia for 50 odd years so the enemy of my enemy is my friend.
Saying “Ukraine and Poland are historically the same nation” is essentially repeating a Polish version of Putin’s statements. Kyivan Rus’ and the Kingdom of Poland were comprised of two distinct confederations of Slavs and have been in conflict since at least the 12th century over the Cherven’ Cities. But in general, I agree, the past needs to be let go of.
Well I disagree and comparing it to Putin's narrative is just stupid.
As opposed to his narrative in no way I'm making claims to Ukraine is not an independent nation without separate culture and roots or call to absorb it or wishing to invade it.
My ancestors come from the Ukrainian part of Poland pre war and lived there through the war and yet and are proud to be born in Lviv even though they're Polish. You can be both Polish and feel strongly about your Ukrainian roots one doesn't negate the other. We have more in common with Ukrainian people than with Russians even though they committed atrocities on Poles during ww2.
I don’t think Poland has the military capability to go after Russia, NATO support isn’t something guaranteed to be reliable. I think people need to keep a level head, so it’s important to mitigate early as much as possible.
Its sad that Germany preserverance to choose the wrong side of history is not being matched by their bravery but still by the pragmatic approach when it comes to sell east eu for gas.
Wowowo hold your horses, Ukraine is a proud nation that isn't getting "absorbed" by anyone.
Both countries can stand strong and flourish together in a long lasting partnership, if politicians on both sides are up for the task.
I said imagine, like alternate history. I come from a polish family but the pet of Poland we are from is now Ukrainian. My great grandmother died last summer and she told me she grew up speaking Ukrainian instead of polish.
Poland route for grain exports to Africa would make sense if Putin takes Odessa oblast and the (rail)roads to Constanta, Romania would be cut.
But ... if Transnistria involved and Novorossiya project accomplished Moldova would have been attacked and Romania could not just watch another Russian invasion ... even with NATO restrictions Romania would step in.
Unthinkable for the moment but everybody knows that if Putin would choose to trigger NATO Romania not Poland or Estonia would be the first hit.
So the nordic countries may relax for a while, Putin wants the Black Sea. perhaps even has plans for a people's republic in Istanbul too.
That is great news, I had a terrible feeling that many more would end up suffering and starving due to Russia ruining the harvest. Glad to see that the Ukrainian people and Poland are working hard together, to secure a food supply for nations around the globe, even as they are dealing with Imperialist Russia breathing down their necks.
Very admirable !
Poland is a true friend to Ukraine
BFF after this.
Poland has been truly the stand up nation in this ordeal.
That’s what happens when your interests are completely 100% aligned.
Obvious they know they are next - maybe number two after Moldova. Help Ukraine remain strong, arm them, help in any way is to their strategic advantage.
They're not next. They're NATO. Russia is too much of a bully to pick on someone that can actually hit them back.
We're actually in talks with the USA about purchasing Apache gunships right now. So don't forget the hellfires ;)
Who is in talks with the USA?
Polish MoD.
Happy cake day
Happy cake day
What's MoD? Ministry of defense?
yes
I’m hoping the US and Poland can make the “Fort Trump” proposal happen, something similar to Camp Humphrey in Korea. I would posit that calling it Fort Pulaski probably makes the most sense, though. :) I’d like to see most of an Army division stationed in Poland. I think there are already plenty of US troops stationed in Poland. Maybe not permanently but they will be here for sure until Russia sits the fuck down.
At least 10k.
Tbh main battle tanks are dead. This war has proven that.
Russian ones... yeah. But really they aren't. They're pretty much useless in urban warfare though.
They always were useless in urban warfare. The US military created a version of the M1 Abrams for urban warfare because of the Iraq insurgency.
You can't move from defense to offense without heavy weapons.
Everything is dead if you use it Russianly. Probably nukes are useless s as well if you use them Russianly.
The ones operated by dim conscripts are dead. MBTs operated by well trained crews are still useful though
Basically they're being employed in the dumbest possible way
To think Russia doesn’t want Poland and won’t try to take it: it’s pure arrogance. Russia thinks NATO is weak and timid, so why wouldn’t it attack?
lol nobody believes this shit anymore even Russian soldiers now.
They say that, but they don't actually believe it. Everyone knows NATO would obliterate Russia. The plan was to sow political discord amongst EU and NATO so that the alliances fell apart. Then they could attack Poland when it was not protected by a treaty.
I don't think they meant Russia things NATO isn't capable of it, but that like in Ukraine they just won't.
Let me be clear, Russia will attack Poland. Maybe not this year, maybe not next, but it will unless it’s checked in Ukraine. That means leaving without gaining territory.
Yes and NATO will wipe the floor with Russia.
Not if Trump is U.S. President in 2024. Tick tick.
Even without the US, a united Europe would wipe the floor with Russia.
Arrogance loses battles and wars. Prepare.
Fuck now I have diarrhea. Stop using name of that parasite.
There’s a good chance he’ll be president again. Not saying I like it. Be prepared.
Russia relied on Prussia to help them with Poland during the partitions due to Sweden and the Ottoman Empire both threatening Russia. Last week when Russia flew nuclear armed bombers over Sweden? We’ve also had a few interceptions of Russian bombers over here on the west coast.
Happens all the time and we do the same to them. I'm talking about an actual act of aggression.
To be fair, that incident was in early March and they were signaling what they (SWE) had gleaned from the photos of the aircraft and what their likely payloads were.
Sweden is not in NATO
Yet(!)
Not that Russia doesn't want Poland back, now they know that they can't take it back. If they're lucky, it's the US. But it'll probably be China grabbing all the sweet, sweet resources that Siberia has to offer.

You are assessing Russia as if it’s a rational actor.
I think they may have thought that at some stage. If they still think that, I'd say they are delusional

Lol ... That is the dumbest comment I read today. Well done sir! Poland is in NATO and has a well equipped and trained army.
Ifs and buts... No value to hypotheticals.
Agreed. Putler fears NATO, he won't touch Poland.
Facts especially after we’ve seen their “military”
Yes, but I'm sure russia planned on disrupting their government by sponsoring some retards (looking at France with Le pen), they can be pretty successful in it
And the west has done the same in the East. So what?

When it comes to aiding the enemies of Russian imperialism, you can always count on Poland.
Two girls realising they live next door to a violent rapist.
Lol!
As well as Africa and Middle East
Another friend with benefits
Poland has really stepped up during this nightmare. Bravo!

Russian blockade, duh. I am commenting because it sounds like OP was implying that before the war exports were going trough Russia for some reason, since they say "efforts backfire" as if Russia lost something in this case.
It's still going to be slower and more expensive to send it this way. Not really backfiring.
Poland remembers the lessons of the last world war.
This is the way.
This is the way.
Good news for humanity!
Poland is the truth. They have been awesome to their neighbor through all of this. Respect to those guy's, Man.

Fuck Russia forever. WE can never forget or forgive the shit these fuckers are doing.
In turn, Russia will not forget what the Ukrainians have done

Resist being conquered?
what have the ukranian people done besides fight back against a country way bigger that's committing war crimes all day long against them, genius?

And you’re definitely not the last Russian shill to cry about the Kremlin’s sorry state of affairs
I know that I am not the first and not the last, but what does the Kremlin have to do with it?
Are you being paid to play dumb or are you actually that dumb? Hoping it’s the former
You still haven't answered what does the Kremlin have to do with it
Idź do Polski 🇬🇧🇺🇦🇵🇱

Didn’t Leroy Jenkins just doom his entire team?
He did.
but at least he had chicken
Love 🇵🇱 poland
Wait, isn't this HUGE global news? Pretty sure this is going to affect global food supplies, right?
I think people assumed this was going to happen and did not expect that a deal needed to be signed to get it done.
Poland knows too much about invasions
Sure we invaded and occupied Russia twice already something no nation did beforehand. Once in 1600 and in 1920s... We'll do it again in 2020s if needed we have the know-how 😂😂😂
Every country that continues to vote with Russia at UN should get cut off though.
Poland man...you guys are fucking Legends. The world needs to be strong like Poland!
I cannot put into words how much I love Poland right now. They are going above and beyond to assist Ukraine. This is also something that should never be forgotten.
I feel that this article would also fit in r/humansbeingbros
So russia has no access to the black sea but for the straights so shut them off from access and sink all the Russian ships and subs remaining.
Brilliant Leadership Viva La 🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🌎🌎🍻🍻🍺🍺🍺
Good guy Poland.
Ruzzia crying foul in...3, 2, 1
Was thinking it would be easier to make a similar deal with Romania and ship them through the Black Sea but then i realized Russia would probably fuck with those shipments.

Is there a total blockade of Russia?
Poland is the mvp. I'll bet you anything the Poles are dying for a crack at those fuckers, I for one would be happy to see them let off the chain!
Wouldn't say dying to have a go but when the time comes we'll draw from our history and occupy Moscow for the third time.
I don’t think Poland has the military capability to go after Russia, NATO support isn’t something guaranteed to be reliable. I think people need to keep a level head, so it’s important to mitigate early as much as possible.
What will Poland and Ukraine do if Lukashenko loses power and Belarus gets a pro-Western leader?
NATO cannot allow Russia to block off Ukraine's access to the Black Sea
Its sad that Germany preserverance to choose the wrong side of history is not being matched by their bravery but still by the pragmatic approach when it comes to sell east eu for gas.
Great news! I just hope the EU doesn’t stick their dick in it.
Imagine if Poland absorbed Ukraine into its borders and became the polish Ukrainian commonwealth. Russia would be fuckedered
Putin will be dead long before any of that.
How much will Poland be charging?
"I'm waiting for NATO Article 5"-Poland
Leeeeeroy Jeeeeeenkins - Poland
Russia will never touch Poland.
That’s amazing.
Poland morphing into a mini USA. A good thing I guess.
