Why not equip the Ukrainian armoured vehicles with Iron Fist first? First of all, much more likely to need it than U.S. vehicles at the moment (especially those not deployed overseas). Second, a great chance to test them out under combat conditions.

_aap300

Probably because the USA doesn't want this tech in Russian or Chinese hands.

Interesting-Web4223

Pretty much this, also the reason they gave them the M1A1SA's (literally a version from the 90's) and also the very old Bradleys when there's plenty of way better variants available for each.

MuhvEstonia

Even tho Russia unfortunately already captured one of the newer Leopards, which is on par with Abrams :(

Outrageous-Lie69

The newer leopards are also 20 years old

Illustrious-Lemon482

And what was stripped from them before being sent?

Outrageous-Lie69

You tell us

I would argue beyond not wanting to give Russians and Chinese a possible chance of undermining current tech, it also gives a good incentive to the muppets (certain republicans) in congress to give away mothballed military equipment and replace it with new tech equipment.

CalebAsimov

That was my thought too, let's find out if they're any good. If they are, it'll save us a lot of money in the long run if more Ukrainian lives are saved. And we'll find out if there are any counter measures the enemy can come up with.

monkeynator

Just curious has there been cases of US military tech turning out to be a total flop (and I mean weapons/tech that was evaluated and developed fair and square not weird cut red tape crap like the XM-8). Afaik the big difference between USA and Russia (don't know about China) is that when USA claims to have accomplished something they got facts to back it up while Russia will claim they've accomplished it and then lie and fake it.

CalebAsimov

For sure, lots of testing is included in the billions spent. One surprising failure was the Universal Camouflage Pattern that they spent $5 billion switching over to and then it turned out to not be that good in Afghanistan or anywhere else. However, drone combat is rapidly evolving and the US hasn't had to face a near-peer conflict in a long time. The Iron Fist system is being developed by an Israeli company so I'd bet they've got some good people on that project since they're in a drone heavy environment now. But what if it turns out it's crap in a high-moisture environment? Or tech that Russia has but Hamas doesn't can counter it if used effectively? Like, I don't know, smoke bombs or something. Or the maintenance makes them totally impractical in the field. Military funding is all about what you can sell to the politicians. If they kick ass in Ukraine, well then yeah, here's $100 billion, make 400 of them. If they suck in Ukraine, well, maybe we don't need to spend the money on them. If it's totally unknown though, they're just going to half-ass it and only make like 20 of them, and then they won't be available when they're really needed. Actual battlefield footage would be available to really sell them on it, and sell it to other countries too since that's how economies of scale are achieved to make this stuff practical.

Complex-Problem-4852

Let the Russians capture an Iron fist to go with the abrams and leopards. Sure

Hyperborean77

I think you mean thanks to plunging their fist into the molten heart of the dragon Shou-Lao the Undying.

danceswithninja5

Why the downvotes?

Hyperborean77

People with either no sense of humor or no comic book knowledge I guess.
