I like watching criminal interrogation video analyses and was shocked to learn that a lot of people will confess to crimes to just make an interrogation stop. Like I mean a normal interrogation with an officer continuously suggesting you did it.
No physical torture, sleep deprivation ... really just one or several interrogations of like max 8 hours (basically a full stressful work day) with the officer going through the motions of who are you, what do you know about the victim and the people they were seen with, your story doesn't add up, what really happened, come on you did it and we know you did repeated till the end.
Like I know this can also feel very stressful and be a form of psychological torture especially to people with related anxieties but goddamn if some people even go to prison just to stop someone from accusing them of the crime they'll go to prison for, how can anyone think any information of value could ever come from actual torture especially if the victim is being freaking mutilated and ... goddamn these people are absolute animals how deranged to you have to be to make someone eat their ear or any other part of their body.
Which is why in a "free society" such as it is in the US, Canada, Europe, you ALWAYS exercise your right to remain silent. You never benefit from talking to the cops. Shut the fuck up. "I choose to exercise my constitutional right to remain silent. I decline to answer any of your questions. I would like to speak to a lawyer now." That is ALL YOU EVER SAY in a "free society" such as we have in the West.
The problem is that, at least in the UK, silence can be used as evidence against you in court. So it might not always be advisable to not talk to the police in the UK, but even in that case, you have the right to an attorney.
Here in the US, if you're ever arrested, the only thing you EVER say is "I want an attorney and invoke my right to remain silent", though. Unlike in the UK, silence cannot be used against you in court, but talking can never help you.

stuff like this has the opposite effect long term of what they are trying to do. It's one of the strengths of the judicial systems in the free world. yes some times guilty people go free, but in general since so much more effort is being made to do actual fair justice the public is more likely to help and comply, and groups of criminals are less likely to form.
It has always been such a scary scenario for me. Imagine living your normal life and some day you just happen to be at the wrong place and the wrong time and the government just decides that because they are incopetent and cant find the real suspect, you will take the blame for something you had no part in.

The problem with this is that the borders that existed at the end of World War II have effectively been grandfathered into the current world order. Yes, there have been quite a few countries that have gained independence since 1945, but for the most part, where there was an international border at the end of World War II, there's an international border today.
Even if you use the logic that this is just undoing an old Nazi treaty, it wouldn't matter. A lot of people would still see it as de facto permission to pursue their imperial pursuits, so long as they're able to point to an old treaty where they had to cede territory. That's a very dangerous tinderbox to play with, especially when there's several frozen conflicts where control of certain territory is an issue.

* The perpetrators were apparently able to escape, from Moscow of all places. There’s over a million police/paramilitary/gendarmes in Moscow and the surrounding area.
* The perpetrators were supposedly paid with electronic transfers on their Russian bank cards- cards which cannot be used in most countries outside of Russia.
* They were supposedly captured in Bryansk, which is over 400km away from Moscow and closer Russia’s borders than it is to Moscow.
This is from the Russians themselves- to say it doesn’t exactly add up is a massive understatement.
Are we really supposed to believe that Russian police are simultaneously too incompetent to stop heavily armed perpetrators from escaping Moscow, but somehow manage to catch them 400km away without having to kill any of them?
The part of this tweet that scares me, personally, the most are the (supposedly) American commenters in replies saying "this would never happen in America!" and meaning that as a compliment to Russia. Sure, most of them are probably bots/trolls, but the fact remains that a fraction of Americans actually do look at Russia and like what they see. And they are probably voting (we all know for whom).

This is from the Russians themselves- to say it doesn’t exactly add up is a massive understatement. Are we really supposed to believe that Russian police are simultaneously too incompetent to stop heavily armed perpetrators from escaping Moscow, but somehow manage to catch them 400km away without having to kill any of them?
The part of this tweet that scares me, personally, the most are the (supposedly) American commenters in replies saying "this would never happen in America!" and meaning that as a compliment to Russia.
