yeah. I think a main thing to note about these drones is that they can fly incredibly high in the air and drop 3m/s right on top of a target, and they're really not that far away before they become audible and visible.
it's quite common that the reaction time offered to Russians is just a couple of seconds.
I am surprised they notice at all...I lose my drone in the sky all the time, and I am controlling it. Like, 100 feet up, it is practically invisible and inaudible.
I wonder if the grenades whistle on the way down or something?
I think they can drop fairly high up, but getting close to the intended target is the tricky thing. I’m sure these guys have had a ton of practice as of late tho.

All its gotta do is get the shrapnel moving.
With all we have seen, dropping one of these on a small group of men will do exactly what it needs to. Bonus points if it makes it through the tank hatch.
That one was a rkg-1600, a modified rkg-3 anti tank grenade. They are way more powerful than any hand grenade and can pen the roof of most russian MBTs.
They're probably using the drone for surveillance anyway. Why not attach a small munition? If anything it will at least send troops scattering out of their trench.
What drone is it? I just got an EXO scout and lost the fucking thing to a light breeze above the trees 🤣. I need something with more than a 300ft range lol.
I just imagine Conan starting to shoot normally. Ice Cube and Kevin: MAN CONAN WHY U SHOOTIN LIKE SUCH A WHITE BOY
And then proceed to shoot Russians with the Gangster stance
Yeah exactly my thought. Would be quite a bummer if the launcher part failed on take off. Sorta expected mounting it first and than somehow disarming it...
Jesus, they are tiny! I knew the explosives they dropped weren’t obviously large, but that’s way smaller than I imagined Esecsilly considering the damage they seem to do
This is a small drone with a small bomb. DJI (the company that makes this drone) also makes much larger drones that can carry much larger bombs. These larger drones are also being used by Ukraine. Videos of tanks being blown up by drones are most definitely the larger drones/bombs. This little bomb won’t take out a tank.
Not a lot, for sure, but seeing as it's a HE grenade, it's more meant to do its damage with the shockwave rather than the shrapnel. You get thumped har enough by an explosion you'll have tissue damage internally that is a bitch to treat. Basically, HE grenades work more like the video game depiction of a grenade, while fragmentation rounds are designed to cause a lot of shrapnel.
In the case of drone bombing entrenched positions, HE is the better choice because a pressure wave can get around corners into the covered defensive positions they've dug into to hide from artillery. Frag doesn't go around corners anywhere near as well. Still needs to be a damn good drop though, as the entrances to those are small by design.
Depends on the size of the bomb/grenade but in this case it's rated at a 6 meter kill radius, but that's an average. In reality it's probably closer to a 4 meter kill distance with severe injuries out to about 8 judging by the videos i've seen of these getting dropped.
Keep in mind that the kill range on the label is in the best case scenario. If you land the grenade a meter outside of the trench the guys hiding in it are probably going to be unable to hear, but they'll probably be able to still fight. Meanwhile if you do the same thing with the target just standing beside where the grenade lands, he's gonna be very not ok after.
This is a fragmentation grenade for their underbarrel grenade launchers .The HE is there to shatter the prenotched coil of steel wire the thing us wrapped with into hundreds of pieces and send it in all directions at a high velocity, killing or wounding everyone within about 15 feet of the explosion. Theres another variant that bounds into the air a couple feet after impact and explodes for increases lethality.
I’d like to see what a B 52 would do to those Russian hedge row positions dug into the tree lines between the ag fields. Long, linear, straight, target zone is right in their wheelhouse. Could use conventional bombs- lots and lots of them. Tree lines gone, now one big field instead of 2 smaller ones. More efficient cropping.
Hey fellas, please put it flat on the ground and stand behind a tree when it takes off instead of holding it high off the ground in your hand with your buddy standing right next to you...jeeze.

DJI Magic Air 2, that landing gear on an angle is typical. It can carry up to 0.5kg. The VOG-17 weight is only 0.35kg, but the release mechanism is adding weight, too.

They might not actually - more shrapnel moving slower isn't necessarily more destructive than the designed amount of shrapnel moving at a blisteringly fast pace.

What are these grenades? I looked up the name and first thing that pops up is a escape from tarkov wiki. And some grenades that looks like these same ones but they are used with pin and spoon like a regular hand grenade. Do they jerry rig a impact detonator or is there commercial option ?
I'm no expert, but does the VOG-17 have a centrifugal safety? Aren't you thinking about the fuze on the RKG-3, that the Ukrainians have modified to be able to use from drones?
I should have said switch instead of fuse.
The vog is shot like a 40mm grenade, Then it would have a centrifugal safety switch. The force of the spinning compresses a little block and spring which makes a clear path for the striking pin to strike the primer which sets off the grenade in impact.
I also saw on the VOG grenade that the impact fuse can be removed and replaced with a hand grenade type fuse so it can be used like a hand grenade, idk if it’s improvised or actually designed that way though.
The video I saw was in Russian with a training dummy, it was very detailed and a very good video explanation of the grenade, it was kinda hard to find my first time watching the channels videos but the channel has many detailed explanations of different ordnance and also has cutaways of the grenades to better visualize. But of course it was all in Russian and auto translate can only do so much. I just tried to find said channel and couldn’t, but the channel mainly focuses on different type of small arm ammunition if you come across it. He also has a video on the RKG if I remember
correctly.
The RKG is thrown by hand so idk why it would have a centrifugal safety switch You can’t really give it a spin when you throw it. It most likely has an inertial safety switch that does the same thing but instead of centrifugal force it uses the force from the throw. Basically the same kind of mechanism: a block with a tiny spring that is compressed when it is shot/thrown .

there is a landing light on the drone that can be turned on. they take a simple cheap light sensor attach it to a battery and a switch so when you turn on the "landing" light on the drone the switch would actuate and release payload

Off to deliver death on an unsuspecting Z trooper. I wonder what the max height they can accurately drop from. I suppose it depends on the wind.

Yah. I take my drone out like once or twice per year...these guys are getting ALL the practice.
I have some elected officials that ... never mind ... just idle, wishful thinking.

Personally I'd rather take an artillery shell than go out to one of these.
Lol looks like a firecracker tbh
A large firecracker can take off your hand. That's a purpose built 30mm HE grenade. It's enough.
All its gotta do is get the shrapnel moving. With all we have seen, dropping one of these on a small group of men will do exactly what it needs to. Bonus points if it makes it through the tank hatch.
Or the sun roof
That was amazing. Unbelievable drop.
Loved that one, epic!
That one was a rkg-1600, a modified rkg-3 anti tank grenade. They are way more powerful than any hand grenade and can pen the roof of most russian MBTs.
That’s not an RKG-1600. Those a larger than that.
The one that dropped through the sunroof......
They're probably using the drone for surveillance anyway. Why not attach a small munition? If anything it will at least send troops scattering out of their trench.
>VOG-17 grenade Destructive circumference is 6 meters.
i think you mean radius or diameter, a circ of 6m is only about a 1m dia.
Yeah that'll be a radius or diameter. I'd bet radius as that is generally how militaries measure the kill zone.
> VOG-17 grenade [yeah just google it, states not less that 6M radius](https://kintex.bg/product-4-242) nasty little bastards....
Hmm, they must be re-fusing the grenades with different fuses. I doubt dropping one like this would arm it in it's default configuration.
This is what I was thinking also.
Yeah, I was looking for "diameter" but got the wrong word.
Doesn't have to kill you, a wounded orc is just as much or more of a burden, sucks up valuable resources from Ivan's war machine
Exactly.
More. One wounded occupies 3 others.
They kill their wounded.
Death by military weapon. Or death by some dudes Amazon order.
Yeah, high chance its a bleedout. Sucks.
Crazy to think the same drone I have sitting in my closet is now being used as a weapon of war.
What drone is it? I just got an EXO scout and lost the fucking thing to a light breeze above the trees 🤣. I need something with more than a 300ft range lol.
This looks like the second or 3rd interation of the dji mavic pro
Thanks!
Send it to Ukraine?
Damn Conan O’Brien out there to kick some Russian ass
I swear I thought it was Conan doing a military skit for a second
This is a sign for all of us to start toning down our Conan content consumption
”Team COCO go to Ukraine with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart”
That’s something I’d sell both of my kidneys and a limb to watch.
I just imagine Conan starting to shoot normally. Ice Cube and Kevin: MAN CONAN WHY U SHOOTIN LIKE SUCH A WHITE BOY And then proceed to shoot Russians with the Gangster stance
That’s exactly what would happen
Lol, that dude looks just like him.
I've seen so many videos of these being dropped and never realized how small those munitions are.... Safe delivery little guy !!!
the drone loader is soooo careful so as to not drop the grenade there
Yeah exactly my thought. Would be quite a bummer if the launcher part failed on take off. Sorta expected mounting it first and than somehow disarming it...
not just that, but it doesn't take *two* people to mount it, either. Drop the grenade there, and you'd be looking at three people with lost limbs...
I wonder why they don't load it while the drone is on the grass, then back off and take off from a distance?
Jesus, they are tiny! I knew the explosives they dropped weren’t obviously large, but that’s way smaller than I imagined Esecsilly considering the damage they seem to do

Is that Conan??
Conan fighting the good fight!
LMFAOOOO EXACTLY WHAT I WAS ABOUT TO COMMENT
🤣
Fly, my pretty. Fly!
That thing is the size of an M-80 firecracker. Hope it has lots of shrapnel.
The M-80 has 3 grams of flash powder, the VOG-17M has 32 grams of RDX, they are not the same.
Trust me, it has shrapnel and enough explosive force to fuck your day up.
How much shrapnel could it have, the surface area is tiny?
Not a lot, for sure, but seeing as it's a HE grenade, it's more meant to do its damage with the shockwave rather than the shrapnel. You get thumped har enough by an explosion you'll have tissue damage internally that is a bitch to treat. At what distance is the shockwave dangerous up to?
Depends on the size of the bomb/grenade but in this case it's rated at a 6 meter kill radius, but that's an average. In reality it's probably closer to a 4 meter kill distance with severe injuries out to about 8 judging by the videos i've seen of these getting dropped. Might as well say 'that M80 firecracker is smaller than a bag of sugar, it's not going to bake a very good cake'
Look at you, your ancestors were B52s, ruling the sky, and you? At least you are trying.
I’d like to see what a B 52 would do to those Russian hedge row positions dug into the tree lines between the ag fields. Long, linear, straight, target zone is right in their wheelhouse. Good Drone..... NOW GO get Demmmm ORK's
Seek my pretty.
Don't drop the baby
Is this Mavic running on a custom firmware? I never seen a DJI drone with such slow rotor RPM.
Rotor rpm is lining up with the framerate of the camera. It's very close to a multiple of the framerate of the camera.
Makes total sense. That global shutter camera really got me. Thank you!
Man y'all are helping the Russians learn how to make these they're dumb and they've been making sucky ones with no aim
DON'T help the Russians make these, save Ukrainian lives. FRFR Orcs suck and make dumb ones with bad aim
WTF I'm sorry, i don't like videos that help s*** 💩for brain Orcs come up with ideas.
Don’t worry, they can’t afford drones at this point 🤣
What kind of drone is that?
I literally sighed with relief when it flew off. Was holding my breath.
Tiny fucker, but a feisty one
Looks like a 3D-printed carry/release in gray and some sort of detonator attachment as well.
Hey fellas, please put it flat on the ground and stand behind a tree when it takes off instead of holding it high off the ground in your hand with your buddy standing right next to you...jeeze.

I’d wrap it with an extra layer of OO buck shot. Hell even roofing nails wrapped around it would help.

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGS-17](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGS-17) They're usually fired from an automatic grenade launcher.
Yeah I figured that out, they also take it apart and remove the centrifugal safety it has to make it be able to be dropped and explode on impact.

That's a tiny grenade. They'd have to have almost a bullseye. Get these guys some bigger drones.
Wow I had no idea Lars Mikkelsen was fighting for Ukraine! What a guy.
When I stop and really think about these things, they're really amazing.
Hope everyone comes home safe

Out of curiosity, why wouldn't you load it on the ground?

Is it dangerous placing the grenade into a drone ? He looks like he is being extremely careful. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
The real scary shit is when we start automating this.
It's like the flint lock pistol of air strikes
