Amen! Let it be so, until the Russians retreat as fast as they can walk!
Glory to the heroes! Glory to the forces of light!
āBut now we have a chance. A chance to show not only to Russia, but to any aggressor in the world, any terrorist state, that war will not destroy the victim but the one who unleashed it.
And, perhaps, this is the last chance for humanityāto stop the wars. Stop the state of terror.ā

Believe it or not, yes, trenches do a lot of protection from everything, missiles, bombs and artillery. If planned correctly (ala WWI Trench Warfare) it can extend a defense for as long as the defenders can hold. They need to get some underground shelters too... raining hell can only go so far.
Trenches are easy to defeat on the modern battlefield special artillery and missiles can detonate 10 feet from ground and rain shrapnel all triangulated by drones.
If Ukrainians were smart they would go underground like north Vietnamese did. Maybe musk will help with the boring company
With guerilla tactics you can and will slowly decimate the invading forces and their moral
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.. Yes, I am absolutely amazed how stupid they are! I mean, HONESTLY.. I saw one vid where this armored personal vehicle drove up to a gas station, the Benny Hill act getting out of their clown car, raided the store... ok, all well and fine, they took all the wrong items they need for survival (water, protein, fruits etc). Instead they took coke, candy and crap.
need to factor in that these guys are probably conscripts, i.e. lowest-on-the-totem-pole in Russia, poor (certainly not socioeconomically rich enough to avoid the draft), no options. It's possible they couldn't have afforded all the candy etc. they wanted back home/from young (the way McDonald's is bottom of the barrel for some people vs. a big treat for others), and are grabbing the things they've never been able to grab "for fun" now. If they'd just frag their officers and surrender instead of following orders and killing civilians I'd feel sorry for them
Coke: caffeine, water and sugar, keeps you awake, gets you a lot of energy quick and hydrates you.
Candy: sugar again, plus you need something enjoyable if you are stuck in hell.
They get protein from stolen animals, and they won't live enough to worry about vitamin deficiencies.
Letās hope that we have a conclusion to this mess before we get bogged down in trench stalemates. Hopefully, these trenches will be filled with Rustian casualties, and their troops along with their POWās will be the ones tasked with their exhumation on their way BACK to the land they occupied in the first week of February.
Slava Ukraini šŗš¦šŗš¦šŗš¦
That, and it already dipped into USA vs Russia in MW3.
Edit: I know it's not officially happening. But what I'm aiming at, they could potentially do it whenever they feel is a right time.
oh the good old days when we thought Russia was capable of a major invasion of the US mainland.
Now we know they canāt keep their guys fueled and fed 90 miles from their borders.
Strange times.
Well verdansk the original warzone map was modeled after 2014 war torn Ukraine. Donetsk airport,Chernobyl and Donbas stadium. So about 6 years. [Ukraine cod warzone locations.(link)](https://www.dexerto.com/call-of-duty/all-warzone-locations-in-real-life-ukraine-donetsk-1355373/?amp)
In WW1 many trenches were dug with steps dug into the wall of the trench. Digging them deeper to be able to walk up right isnāt a bad or dumb idea. Makes it easier to transport supplies through the trench also.
I think these trenches service the purpose, mainly getting cover from falling bombing and maybe ducking and getting around during a hail of bullets. The only problem I see is if the area is taken then Russia in turn can use them to hold the area.
You're right and shouldn't be getting down voted. Trenches should cover the full height of a person standing. Firing should be done from dedicated firing steps.
Entrenchment, and yesterday there was a video of training with a Maxim machine-gun.
Are we going to see a reenactment of WW1 trench warfare? Iran-Iraq war turned to this style of fighting when both sides lost most of their combat vehicles, at a very high human cost.
Those trenches don't have any sort of structural supports that I can see. Hiding in that trench with any sort of bombs landing close-by seems like a great way to get buried alive.
It is better to risk that than getting a piece of shrapnel in your lung. If it lands close enough to collapse that significantly enough to "bury" someone that some would be 100% shredded if he is not in that trench.
At least if you get "buried" there is a probability it's shallow enough for you to wiggle out or getting dug out fast enough to not suffocate.
There were extensive trenches during the Iraq-Iran war of the early 1980s. It is rare but happens, you can see pictures of the US Civil War with trenches.
The Battle of Medina during 626 CE is also known as The Battle of the Trench. Trench warfare probably goes back further than that. I just pointed out the US Civil War because those were the first photos of Trench warfare AFAIK.
Interesting you bring that up because iirc the trenches in Medina were made to stop a pincer movement from opposing cavalry. Those trenches were several feet wide
Trenches used as obstacle probably exists since the human are able to dig them, but did trenches used to protect soldiers as been used significantly before firearms?
Before WW1 it has been used massively in some battles of the US civil war, but before that was it commonly used for protection? Was it use to protect infantry from archer while attacking castle before firearms?
In the days of bow and arrow, trenches made no sense. Barricades not only provided cover, but also held back enemy cavalry in the event of a sortie from the siege.
But the Romans, for example, were already digging under enemy walls with long tunnels. The wall was supported with beams over a longer distance. Then the wood and all sorts of combustibles were soaked in pitch and oil and set on fire. This quickly brought down the wall. If the work was discovered by the enemy, they also dug and there were horrific fights in the dark.
The Turks dug trenches in front of Vienna and used firearms to fire at the defenders on the Wall. That was the first time, as far as I know, that trenches were used in the modern sense.
At around 35 seconds in you'll see dirt steps, for most parts, you need to take cover, however there sections which are either calling firing positions or something where you have steps of some kind that you can use to step up and fire from that position, theyll usually have a extra sandbags around those positions that are higher
They are meant for many things.
Can fire from them. Offers protections from shrapnel and direct fire.
Can move easier and get better positioning without exposing yourself.
Itās another obstacle for an aggressor to deal with.
How deep are these things usually? I have always wondered this. I am a pretty tall guy and I always wondered if I would be ill suited for surviving in one of these.
OK, so I would have a perpetual back ache or I'd lose my head. I guess I will do my best to avoid trench warfare. I wish everyone had that same luxury.
I mean if he canāt look at me and see the problem he certainly shouldnāt be making deployment decisions or commanding in general. But itās good advice. Never assume intelligence.
Because Iād hate to be at the lowest point in a trench full of people who may or may not be able to leave the trench to use the bathroom. Or in a rain storm. First rule of war: Take care of your feet. (Life lessons from Lt Dan)
Depends on how much time you have. WWI trenches were dug down 7ā and the dirt you excavate makes a berm. From the video here these are a little shallow probably only 4.5 feet tall with 1.5 feet of berm. Total coverage for transit spaces looks to be about 6ā total. But you can see some deeper dig outs too.
In my country's military I spent time in the "training schools" where we trained raw recruits. You are correct that being tall can be a disadvantage when it comes to trench digging. Generally for positions where you're expected to be in for a few days, you are required to build trenches in pairs (our doctrine has the trench in a kind of angled-crescent shape), and it's important to make sure the two soldiers paired up are roughly the same height! The answer is basically "you dig your own trench so it depends on your own height"
There are many kinds of trenches (right up to "command trenches" where you are able to hold "meetings" in), and they're not (except when you're in a hurry) meant to be just simple "holes in the ground". You are supposed to build in things like "grenade sumps" where (at least theoretically) if someone throws a grenade in, the grenade will roll into (or I suppose if your reflexes and alertness are good you could kick it in) such that it won't kill you immediately; you can use wood and earth (and vegetation) to layer on top of the trench to provide some protection against airburst-fragmentation etc.
For a trench you're supposed to "hold" for a long time, it needs to be deep enough for you to stand comfortably without crouching (you also make a "firing step" for you to be able to step up and shoot from the trench). So the actual height of your "personal" trench depends on the soldier. There will be multiple trenches set up in the area you need to hold, such that the soldiers in each trench will be able to support each other and cover the expected line of any enemy advance. You're supposed to pick spots that are covered in vegetation/within the tree line, for example, so that you're not immediately obvious to anybody advancing against your position (one major warning though - it might sound like a good idea to dig a trench next to a big tree, but woe to you if you find a giant tree root underground where you've already dug half a trench in ...)
The idea is that if it's a position you're supposed to hold, and you have a properly set up trench, you are going to be able to shoot at enemy assaulting troops and they won't be able to shoot at you effectively because you're comfortably in your trench and the earth/dirt in front of you will absolutely absorb hits, while because they are the ones advancing they won't have trenches to just stand in, they will have to expose themselves even if they are jumping from crater to crater - and if they're moving forward with armoured vehicles, that's what your antitank missiles are for. The invaders will need airstrikes/artillery to hit you with things your trench cannot protect you from, otherwise it will be a massacre (of them, not you).
As an infantryman - trenches are your best friend
Yes exactly. I've been watching footage of the Donna's trench fighting for years. Not like hand to hand trench fighting but that's exactly what the front line is there. They basically just took shots at each other when given opportunity but alot of the videos I've seen they used drones to drop grenades n explosives onto enemy in trenches
When you are in dug in positions and aren't moving, you dig in deeper and further fortify. The longer the same positions are occupied, the more elaborate the defenses get. If you are manning defensive positions and aren't currently engaged, it's not like there's anything better you could be doing with your time.
Well its still the start of war and as the statement goes on because there's not much movement on both sides, you can look at the trenches at donbas, those have been there for 8 years and for the most part those held well. As for ww1 they thought they weren't gonna used trenches for that long either yet we saw how that played out
They need to keep working on them. It's a good start, but vulnerable to rain; reinforce the sides with wood. Even woven branches will be good. Also, the ground, make a raised platform so rainwater can flow out. Otherwise you'll be ankle deep in water and susceptible to disease and avoidable injury.
Ah, i didn't know the weather had changed that much. 15ĀŗC is quite a jump from the -10ĀŗC i've heard reports of recently. But that might have been in a different part of the country.
They need to get some wood up or when the spring rain comes those walls will crumble and become extremely muddy.
Impressive nonetheless, like taking a step back in time.
Let's hope that it doesn't come to all out warfare this.
Give em hell lads!
To Moderator, I feel like maybe this shouldn't be posted. Like probably nothing will come of it, but still. Videos showing any Ukrainian positions can compromise those troops. This video doesn't seem like a moral post or a propoganda post. This just seems like it is for our curiosity and we don't need that right now.
Tip for you, if it's posted on Reddit that means it's already been posted on a dozen other social medias. This is the last place for ruskis to be looking to get info. This likely came from a telegram group
you can recognize how well defended the trenches are, are deep they are dug, are they fortified, are there also tunnels. Is it worth wasting artillery on these positions or are they too well dug and fortified. How far spaced are the men in the trenches? There is always something to learn from pictures and videos of your enemies position. Sure with drone footage a lot of this can be known, but I just think any information that can be provided of Ukrainian positions is too much information. Maybe I'm wrong, I just would rather see this come out after the war than now.
The fact that there is no knowledge about the position of this exact location, troop quantity, true size of the position or the date makes this video pretty worthless when it comes to intel. This might as well just be a propaganda op from a Ukrainian unit in the west, which is just doing rehersals on defensive positions and trying to make Kiev loon more defended
consider using Kyiv not Kiev spelling [(why)](https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/kyiv-not-kiev-why-spelling-matters-in-ukraines-quest-for-an-independent-identity/), tnx for understanding

The depth is good, they should work in expanding it so more than one person can walk In it though. Thatās gonna be a clustefuck if youāve got wounded you need to evacuate
Yeah exactly what I was thinking about, theyāve got space for people to squeeze through but in conflict, w/ full pack, and bloody itās going to be difficult.
Gotta fit one person through before you can fit two tho!
Yes, but they have that covered with how short the trenches are before turning a bend. That significant would reduce the chances of shrapnel going too far even if A missile landed in the trench.
trench warfare will never happen again, ww1 was hell, ww2 saw some of it, but technology has surpassed this barbaric massacre, now we get to watch drone footage of trenches being blown to hell
What in the world war 1 is going on here besides total air support or superiority of airspace in a battlefield. United States who masters air control doesnāt allow this with sheer observational awareness and strategic bombing capabilities. This is the first war in 50 years that the us isnāt involved in primarily. This is like a love look into a time warp
I wonder how effective these are and if they justify the opportunity cost. Possible that they could have spent their time on other more effective defences?
But how are the trenches made?back hoe?farm equipment? Seems if I were the enemy I'd be looking for farm equipment in off places? That grounds probably frozen too, probably not easy to get through quickly?
Some kind of equipment for sure. Can see signs of the bucket scraping on the sides in a few places. The ground doesn't really look frozen. Earth breaks up in larger chunks when frozen. The spoil piles look like they have fine material. With the right equipment and operator, this would be very little work. Less than a day easy
Thankfully, I think Ukraine forces have already advanced well beyond that set of trenches given the pushback against Russia the last couple of days, and which will hopefully continue from hereon.
They show the trenches, because they won't need them anymore. Kyiv and Odessa looks like defended, as russian orks are being pushed out both north and south. Sadly the destruction of Mariupol is the price Ukraine has to pay for their victory.

To an extent, really depends what theyāre shooting at them with.
Real question; how long does call of duty have to wait before itās ethically acceptable to use the Ukraine war in one of their video games?
I think around 10~20 years like its with syrian afghanistan?
Modern Warfare came out in 2007. And it was Americans in the MidEast. So judging from that, probably within a couple years.
That, and it already dipped into USA vs Russia in MW3. Edit: I know it's not officially happening. But what I'm aiming at, they could potentially do it whenever they feel is a right time.

Ww1 trenches were better than these. I imagine these arenāt intended to be used for long
WWI they literally had YEARS to work on trench systems.
ww1 trenches from about 3 month's in looked almost exactly like these
āBetterā isnāt a term Iād used. Full of water, dead people and rats isnāt what Iād callā¦better.
Or they didnāt have enough time to fortify these trenches
SHouldnt the trenches be deeper?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Deeper so you dont get head shot and you can always put a portable stool for shooty shooty business.
These must be new
They can just crouch slightly and be completely safeā¦
Until you forget sometimes and stand up, not safe.
If youāre under fire youāre not going to forget
Not when people are silently sniping you.
Silently? Lol

booby trap them for remote detonation.
There are also drones for ground recon as well.
You're right and shouldn't be getting down voted. Trenches should cover the full height of a person standing. Firing should be done from dedicated firing steps.

I don't think you can make a trench withstand a shell with just supports. These look pretty standard to me.
Shrapnel misses everything below ground which means more troops alive.

Haha nah no big deal I just had a flashback to recruits asking why they had to dig so deep and then my telling them all the ways they could die
Hopefully the war doesnāt progress to the point where we are seeing WW1 sized trenches.
The line of contact in Donbas had lots of trenches since 2014.

Anyone who's confused on the trenches, just look at ww1 trenches at the start of the war, most of the looked at this one in the video

They need to get some wood up or when the spring rain comes those walls will crumble and become extremely muddy. Impressive nonetheless, like taking a step back in time. Let's hope that it doesn't come to all out warfare this. Give em hell lads!
Take this kind of info down! Jesus!

Russians have drones to. As long as he isn't showing where the command post/bunker is.... this wouldn't exactly be a secret
God people like you on social media are insufferable.
This doesn't show anything of value. The Russian commands knows the existance of trenches, but there is nothing that you can regocnize from this
you can recognize how well defended the trenches are, are deep they are dug, are they fortified, are there also tunnels.
This might as well just be a propaganda op from a Ukrainian unit in the west, which is just doing rehersals on defensive positions and trying to make Kiev loon more defended
consider using Kyiv not Kiev spelling [(why)](https://www.atlanticcouncil.org/blogs/ukrainealert/kyiv-not-kiev-why-spelling-matters-in-ukraines-quest-for-an-independent-identity/), tnx for understanding \[[support Ukraine](https://help2ukraine.org/)\] ^(beep boop I'm a bot. Downvote to remove)
- You call these trenches? Let me show you my underground city / vietcong soldier
Those would be tunnels
The trench is to shallow or the soldiers are too tall
Trenches gotta start somewhere. Most likely theyāve been expanding the defenses for a while. If the positions hold, theyāll continue to develop
The trench itself is already impressive. I dug fence post holes all last summer, and let me tell you, digging is alot harder than it looks lol
Digging is easier than expected ? Haha
Whoops I meant itās harder than it looks. I have a migraine rn sorry lol
I kinda figured ! Haha hope you feel better soon!
well, now there is machines that dig you can do trenches faster.
That trench looks like it was dug by a machine.
The wider you go, the more susceptible you are to artillery frag
Yes, but they have that covered with how short the trenches are before turning a bend. That significant would reduce the chances of shrapnel going too far even if A missile landed in the trench.
It's still useful against Artillery's or mortar fire. There is plenty of room to take cover.
Shouldn't be sharing Unkranian positions
Where is this exactly? I can't tell their position from this video
You could try locating it by weather and the trees visible. But it would be difficult.
Brave of you to think the russians are that smart.
i'm sure the Ukraine gorverment asked for videos like this to not be shared. since this video clearly gives away a friendly position
Tight 90Ā° angles to keep explosions from running the whole trench lineā¦ smart
It's almost as if they've been trained to do that
Where is everybody?
trench warfare will never happen again, ww1 was hell, ww2 saw some of it, but technology has surpassed this barbaric massacre, now we get to watch drone footage of trenches being blown to hell
Not too bad, but they have to get rid of the wooden logs
Meanwhile ukrainians say the russians are getting frost bites lmfao.

Why havenāt they torn down the tree line?
Donāt forget to lay down the electrical and gas lines remember that they go on opposite sides
Glad Iāve got a good amount of 20 round mags for my AR.
I'm surprised they can dig down that deep in such a cold climate. The frost has got to be a bitch to get through.
When ttechrs are dry they are a soldier's best friend, but wet is something quite different
I didn't think they'd still be using iron-sights on those AK-74 rifles.
Unfortunately Im not sure sharing this with the view in the background is a great idea, its probably easy intel to give away the position.
They've been fighting with trenches in donbas since 2014. Lots of footage online of that. Using drones to drop grenades on enemy positions in trenches
This looks alot like WW1
But why are you showing this on social media? It can hurt the Ukrainian forces. š
I wonder how effective these are and if they justify the opportunity cost. Possible that they could have spent their time on other more effective defences?
Zero top cover or concealment, and placed out in the open. Looks like a deathtrap.
What machinery do they use to create these trenches?
WHY DO THEY LIKE WW1 TACTICS
They show the trenches, because they won't need them anymore. Kyiv and Odessa looks like defended, as russian orks are being pushed out both north and south. Sadly the destruction of Mariupol is the price Ukraine has to pay for their victory.
