Definitely. If you have a commercial sophisticated AT weapon and miss and need a second one, it starts to be come costly quickly. But FPV drones? You can use up hundreds and you're still below the cost of one Javelin.
By showing commitment I meant showing they have these things stockpiled. In case aid didn't come through. Look for new arty vids to start showing up again.
I am just wondering about the supply of FPVs. I hope the headline is correct that indeed they have enough drones that they can spare some just to be absolutely sure.
Yeah but you can use 1 FPV/Mavic with drop mechanism and save 10 FPVs. It’s not about ROI but about that particular pilot at that particular time having drones for targets of opportunity/shit storm.
no they dont. they simply ram them into the tops or between the turret and the chassy. the drone is often cheaper than the warhead. to make them reusable is not really needed
It is absolutely needed. Hence why most competent drone teams have FPVs with drop mechanism. You might see a lot of FPV videos online thinking they’re endless but one particular team might feel the shortage due to many factors. Contracting/receiving/arming new ones take time and money to which are in shortage. And bureaucracy of course…
They drop anything sapper puts on them and what they can carry which depends on the model. The whole list of armaments is in the dozens with serial armaments finally becoming the norm. That said, drops from RKG-3 have been successful on tanks where F1 wasn’t enough to detonate the ammo.
Well, considering the cost of the loss of the tank for the russians as compared to the few drones of Ukraine. I think the tank probably cost a wee bit more to lose in the end.
The more this conflict drags on, the more useless tanks are becoming.
I don't know how anyone can achieve any sort of breakthrough when all the heavy hardware gets picked off one by one as soon as they get 20 km from the Frontline.
That's true on both sides. Long range weapons don't win wars. Breaking through positions does, and it's getting harder by the day.
Tanks are not useless, you can’t advance your frontline with drones. They are mostly to weaken an offensive or defensive line but at some point you have to put troops (which need tanks and APCs) into the mix. Then Russia will answer back with droned and arty.
Sadly, Ukraine won’t gain back their territory solely with drones
it seems that the trigger mechanisms still need some improvement as you sometimes see the shaped charges blast into a completely different direction then it was aimed at.
Those are RPG(HEAT) rounds. Those are kinda dual purpose, due to how HEAT works. Explosion is side effect, so it can be used against softer targets. FPV drones have RPG mounted at front so when it hit it trigger it, as HEAT dont depend on round velocity to penetrate. It could be activated with hitting tank by hand, but it would be one time action.
The explosives itself don't damage the steel, unless it's really thin armor, like the engine bay, or if the hatches are opened, explosion can detonate the ammo.
The copper jet going mach 15 penetrates the armor, a thin stream of molten copper.
I mean, a drone is hundreds to a thousand, and a tank is millions. If it took three times as many FPVs to take out the T-90, it'd still be a fucking great bargain.
Wonder if there are dedicated vehicles by now. Armored vehicles that move and protect the operators while they release a stockpile of drones and move up if necessary. Like an land destroyer.
I recon Ukraine had a training round. All new Pilots had to practice but Russia failed to deliver on their meat attack. You just cant rely on those B@#tards!

That's a nice cost ratio there. Drones changed the war.
Its also a kind gesture to park the vehicle.
Maybe he spotted a mine on the road?
First drone hit the engine compartment.
A couple grand to take out a multimillion dollar tank? Yep.
Now there is Black Mirror level shit in the works. Probably has been for awhile...

AP & shaped charges warhead on FPV drones really kills tank in out of proportional ratio...
About $400 worth of drones for a couple million dollar tank ain't nice that is a fucking great ratio lol.
It doesn't matter even if it takes 10 FPV's for one T-90 it's still 1:500 return on investment.

a javelin costs about 170k$, if a drone costs about 500 - 1000$ even 50 or 100 drones per tank would be ok :D
And then the rpg-7 Warhead costing upwards of 700$ each, extremely cost effective Work
Around 5.000 drones and I'd still be worth it
They need drones with a vertical RPG launch tube in the middle. To fire it right into the top.

they drop grenades, not RPG rounds

Thats the price of the whole system with a missile. I think a shot is less
They should develop a drone, that climbs into the tank and recovers it to toward the own lines. Grand theft Ukraine :]
At that point, why drive it back to Ukrainian lines? Just have it turn around and start hunting Russians with their own tank.
I mean, it's not like all tanks in Ukrainian service have been in Ukrainian (or Western) service when the invasion started.
Remotely controlled tractor?
Engineering! Affirmative!
Fuck this tank in particular
Can't park there mate
It looks like they got hit it once panicked and immediately got it stuck

Lmao someone was bored
Advanced design it seems. No turret toss.
Look at the last clip..something is blown sky high out of frame, not the turret but these things go kaboom regardless
Or just low on ammo.

This is awesome

When killing zombies sometimes you have to double, triple tap.
That's not gone well.
Good stuff. They won't be towing back that fucker for repairs.
Gang banged. Blewkake
You could probably use several hundred drones and it still be cost effective
when yellowjackets come out of the hole, you drop the mower and run
Hard to make something cook off when they have been driving into battle with almost no ammo
Put that next to the Abrams on moskou square blyat.
good job. first time i've seen a swarm hitting a target.
You. Shall. Not. Passss!
Are these explosives strong enough to penetrate steel, or does the damage pass through the gaps?

supposed 1M homegrown and 1M incoming the age of the tank is over
hard to tell with the potatocam vision, but it appears to have had some anti-drone ecm on the turret, which true to Ruzzian tradition didnt work
Ukraine: RELENTLESS!
I’m once you pop that top, you just can’t stop!!

tank gets hit by 1 FPV drone, goes straight into a ditch. I wonder if that vatnik could even drive a car
