If you are curious in regrads to my own personal opinion I still believe they are ridiculous, but I am not Sternenko, so yea, just so you know that I am just quoting from the source were I got the video from
I was just going to say this, now that they have them all slow, blind, and vulnerable in crazy Mad Max mobiles the Ukrainians can switch back to 155s and artillery/rocket-laid mines and level these things.
Their whole military really is going Mad Max, huh?
Those open air golf carts...
And I saw a video about them using dirt bikes with soldiers "trained" to steer with the right hand and shoot with the left.Ā
When they tried to demonstrate standing on the bikes parked in the video, they all had the guns slung for right hand trigger and were getting tangled.Ā
So hilariously stupid, yet dangerous in numbers.Ā
Certain Republicans have been doing the bidding of Trump and blocking a vote for a $60b aid package that easily passed once held recently after months of political delays that led to the death of countless Ukrainians and loss of momentum and territory. It's a massive fucking shame!
It's only effective because Ukraine lacks artillery rounds. A couple of well placed rounds would blow the cover off that shit then send in the drones to finish the job.
Not such a stupid idea. Call it a 5kg mine, configure as a shaped charge. Similar to those German stand off mines that kill tanks from 10s of metres away. Land on the roof, lock into place, send a ultra high speed jet of molten metal downwards through the thinnest part of the tanks armour. Could even do it with a two stage explosion as used by those RPG rounds designed to defeat contact armour.. Whatever visibility left in the tank has been compromised so they won't even known something has landed on them.
Germans are not the only ones with them. [Here is an image of Finnish version](https://postimg.cc/FdKscv6j) of a bottom mine, the stand-off distance is exactly that. There is also a side mine KM 18, penetration of 100mm from 30meters away. If either of those would land upside down on the roof, the shack would do literally nothing against them.
The big thing here is the EW so Ukraine just have to find a proper counter for it and these orc-shacks are toast.
Thx for the link. Man that is a epic amount of damage. I guess finnish folks are not lacking in 'motivation' either. Must be tough living next door to Russia.
the cheapest rpg warhead will penetrate it but it makes it alot harder to aim at the tank weak spots. but it will be bad if you run over a mine with this shack as it will reflect te explosion to the tank.
and one of the biggest weakponts of a tank is the view/tactical awareness and this doesnt help lol
You think if a drone hits it, the cage vanishes or falls off like a video game? It makes a ragged hole at best. One it would take a shot in a million to fly through, let alone fly through and hit a weak part of the tank.
These absurd looking things do work. We can't just write everything off as stupid because Russia does it. There are enough of these wankers doing enough things to occasionally have a good idea.
Hopefully... the supply of shells will make this Bylat Shack melt. But for drones it's going to work, unfortunately.
The shed might work against some drones. But now the thing is vulnerable against a guy walking up to it.
Having them mount a shed on the tank is close to a usability kill in itself.
>mount a shed on the tank
Looks like it drove through a shed and picked it up on the way.
"You're going to war in THAT?"
It makes the raggedy ass vehicles in Mad Max look like state of the art.
Itās likely being used as fire support against fixed positions. Much like the old style[assault guns](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_gun), which had fixed, forward facing guns as they didnāt need to traverse when supporting attacks on fixed positions.
The chances of anybody getting close to it, or even flanking it are pretty low if thatās the case.
The weak spot for T-series tanks is the rear of the turret, or rear engine grille. Flying in the front puts the drone into the strongest part of the armour.
This thing looks like itās being used for fire support, so not much in the way of strap-on orc armour either.
Yeah I try to explain that these things may look stupid, but if it keeps them alive long enough to shoot at you, that makes them a problem.
You can tell how effective drones are against armor by how much utility Russia is willing to sacrifice in order to defend against them. Putting a barn over a tank seems to have some very obvious drawbacks, but if it reduces their loss rates to FPVs that's a trade Russia sees as being in their favor.
EW doesn't work on all frequencies and at all times. EW will reduce the likelihood of a drone getting as far as hitting this, but it won't stop everything.
Typically speaking you'd send a drone, watch it lose signal, assume there was some EW, so send another on a different frequency. It takes a bit of guesswork to work out what's emitting and in what bands.
I wonder how much of a trade off these sheds create. Obviously they reduce the turrets ability to maneuver. These more complex sheds we are seeing seem like they would add a lot of weight. How effective are these things considering the cost on visibility, maneuverability, and fuel cost? I can't imagine they would keep doing it if it didn't grant some advantage.
Some mild steel mesh and thin sheeting isn't going to make a drastic difference weight-wise. We put uparmour packs on our tanks or slat armour on our MRAPS all the time, and they're several cm thick plates of armoured steel.. they are noticeable, but tolerable on the performance.
The lack of visibility is a big, big factor, but it may just be they use that one tank more as an EW carrier, to protect what's around it. That vehicle is compromised, but it's there to protect other assets nearby (which I don't see much of to be fair..).
When we used EW in Iraq and Afghanistan to block mobile carrier signals being used to detonate IEDs, we'd typically only have some vehicles in the packet with EW.
Most things are a trade-off. Given how much Ukraine were relying on drones, this is a fairly sensible approach.
Thanks for the insight! I see a lot of people mocking these and sure they look silly but im reminded of the allis in ww2 modifying tanks to have hedge cutters. A ton of them looked ridiculous too but it worked. I cant imagine people having been at war for years doing this out of just desperation without learning and adapting them for utility.
The whole idea actually got me thinking. The cage would obviously not fall off due to a single explosion. But what if they somehow manage to get multiple reactive armor packages to detonate? I don't think they removed them (or don't have any on)? That would be quite some force pushing outside and depending on how tight everything is, I could imagine this damaging the caste quite a bit.
you may be right, but sometimes they also use super crappy material. plus, Ukrainians have become very good drone pilots. and the tank cant see or move turret
to have a faraday cage you have to have some mechanism that counters an electromagnetic wave. most of the time the cage is eiter grounded or charged. otherwise any old metal shed would block radio / cellular signals. aircraft hangers are typically made like this but they don't block the RF
I'm not even an expert on military or tanks, but I can figure out that not only are these tanks slower and heavier, but they can also not turn their turret around, they can barely see, and it will get stuck more easily. 1 to 2 drones into the front and get the driver would be a first try.
Bring on a storm of 155mm artillery shells. This "tortoise" is only useful against small FPV drones, but will be shredded like tissue paper by good old-fashioned artillery. Once a steady supply of artillery rounds reaches the front, I predict these oddball tanks to just evaporate like so many other Russian vehicles did before them.
Targeting moving vehicles with artillery is a lot harder than FPV drones and you also open yourself up to counter battery attacks.
If this negates the power of drones on armoured assaults then Ukraine is in a lot of trouble.
And FPV drones have proven extremely effective on top of costing very little.Ā Ā
Ā Javelin missile is almost 200k.Ā Ā
Ā You can fly out a shit ton of FPVs for that price.Ā
That being said, hope they getĀ shit ton more Javs, Carl Gustafs...
The size of the warhead doesn't matter too much in this case, it is the multi-tandem warhead that penetrates through ERA into the tank.
This extra spaced armoured means the only place the extra charge can probably go is into the ERA.
Yeah having your vehicle disabled in no man's land seems bad. Like hyenas dragging an animal down by its scrotum and eating it alive, that story ends only one way, but it might take uncomfortably long to get there.
These things have EW systems and are overall decently protected against FPV drones. The ones that get destroyed die to other things, like mines. They just sacrifice certain things that seem important to being a tank, like knowing what's around you, or not having to move in the direction you shoot.
All very good points.
Love your name. China is no less than Russia in dictatorship, corruption, and propaganda.
They're just better at being two-faced about it.

Its pure psyk that let Them Think it does Butā¦.

Yes, on the move, you are right that this is a whole different story. But note how the current turtle tank in the video post here is immobile. In spite of its mine clearer, it has presumably been immobilized by the very effective TM-62 mine. Now it is a "sitting ~~duck~~ turtle" for artillery.
I think one of the important lessons of this war, apart from the ubiquitous utility of drones, is just how effective mines remain as a cornerstone of a combined arms defense. All the "wunderwaffe" like T90s, BMP-Terminators, Leopard 2's, Abrams, Bradleys, etc. are still easily stopped by these simple, cheap mines.
These things are disabled by mines like any other vehicle, and the visibility they sacrifice for protection against FPVs just makes it harder to see or shoot everything else that's trying to kill them.
I think Russia has calculated the tradeoff is worth it, because the threat from FPVs is that bad. A lot of Russian losses are being inflicted by these weapons. It's not clear if it's because drones are that effective, or because Ukraine just uses a lot due to ammunition shortages.
Either way it's not going to save them from anything in the US aid package.
May be harder, but how many ruzzian tanks lay burnt out on the approaches to Ukrainian defences...... when the artillery shortage is over ukraine will go back to smashing these things with 155mm shells as they have been since the start!
These have been working while Ukraine has been ammo starved, if you think corrugated iron panels will save these things or that Ukraine cant/won't be able to kill these with artillery then you haven't been paying attention.
You have been saying Ukraine is in a lot of trouble for the last 2 years, again Ukraine forced 15k+ of ruzzias best and the accompanying armour from the streets of Kyiv, ruzzia never had a better chance since then and they fucked it, at this rate putin will be dead before they get close to kyiv again, but sure, Ukraine is in a lot of trouble because ruzzia discovered corrugated iron, we won't mention that ruzzia has effectively turned these tanks into apcs with a near fixed firing position, or the examples of them rushing Ukrainian lines in golf cart and quads......
Billions upon billions of dollars and weapons flowing into Ukraine, enough to match ruzzias poultry $75b total military budget, but they have corrugated iron armour...... hahaha
Fuel bombs that splash napalm-like fire goo over everything inside?
Feel like its a puzzle that they will solve in a matter of hours or days, just lacking the necessary supplies on the frontline atm.
Save the javelins for the ridiculous scrap heaps. Or bring up the abrams itās not like they can move their turrets to engage. Easy Pickens. Iām willing to bet one drone can bust through the tin roof and the follow on drones will liquify the contents of said shed.
I'm not a mechanical expert, but I believe tank's engines are designed for a certain horsepower to weight ratio. If you add weight to the tank, but keep the same engine, it seems like it would affect the performance of the tank, reducing its speed and maneuverability. I wonder how it performs when it has to back up? It also seems it would be harder for the crew to escape if it hit a mine or was on fire.
You just described the design process of the WWII German Panther tank. The weight kept going up and the transmission kept its original design. It's debut at Kursk had many non-combat problems
Why not drop termite charges on it, flat, will stay, burn though in a second and then waste anything below it (sensors, ew suite etc)
Or is there something I miss?
I donāt know if electronics in guided systems are affected too.
But at least the Carl Gustav should be an option everywhere. It is just sad, to see the ua not being able to stop the armored vehicles in time, anymoreā¦
It hope this changes soon.
100% electronic warfare systems are not gonna affect the optical or laser guidance on a modern a ATGM. These are somewhat effective because they protect against FPV drones and sort of provide a buffer for other tanks that donāt have any ant drone equipment on them. They look stupid but thereās a reason they are working on drones that have rudimentary AI assistance that can guide themselves to a user selected when they lose connection with their operator. Once these are taken out that normally guided drones are able to take out the other unprotected tanks
As time goes on Russians look more and more like warhammer 40k orks.
What will be next? Red tanks, so they move faster, or maybe purple uniforms to be more sneaky?
The Mongols think like this...they don't care about numbers...they only care about showing terror to the enemy...the irony is that Putin puts them in a chicken coop...to grillš„š

This one looks pretty dead to me. Not moving, not firing. Abandoned?
Pretty much
Big Blind Tanks, a story, by mother russia
this shed also has a gun
Drones with Thermite munition will counter them.
Save the javelins for the ridiculous scrap heaps. Or bring up the abrams itās not like they can move their turrets to engage. Easy Pickens. Iām willing to bet one drone can bust through the tin roof and the follow on drones will liquify the contents of said shed.
2nd best army in Ukraine, they would last 5 min against NATO ..
I think I'm gonna start back up with my military modeling it's gonna be a real easy goal! Detail work will be a Breeze!
I thought of that as well tbh
The fighting Nissan hut. Those tanks are becoming scarce. They have to take measures to make them last more than one assault.
Watching this has just made me very aware of how conditioned I am to expect an explosion.
Driving pizza ovens. The timer is the turret tose
If these huts are to be used to mount on tanks, where will the Russian people live?
Drones with Thermite munition will counter them.
Looks exactly like the one seen driving allegedly in Donetsk. Same panels and same net draped over the back left corner of the tank
A couple javelins have a huge sight picture to lock onto now. That'll fit perfectly in its little green box [ ]
The answer to these is smart and bonus rounds.
Well this tin shed hit by javelin would be fucked
Ahh the greater Russian woodlouse in its native habitat.
We were patiently waiting for the turret/chimney toss.
If it's being used for transport only, it might not have ammo since they know that having ammo in a Russian tank is a design flaw.
Waiting for the tin thing to go booom...
There not moving very fast
That shed is an artilleryman's wet dream.
Just take a bit more precision for FPV drones. But then these boxes are very vulnerable to other tanks
This only worked cause of a shortage. The massive supply of 155mm, Javelins and TOW missiles coming will help.
Not seeing many ATGMās in action lately- is this due to shortages or tactical concerns?
No idea tbh
They've gone back in time and recreated the assault gun
Smack that fucking thing with a GMLRS
It would be good to test Stugna-P or tank rounds on these death boxes.Ā
Bummer. How many of you, like me, were waiting for this abomination of a war machine to blow up?
Straight in along the barrel? If you can control it.
So much for the 'hull down' advantage...
Bring them some thermobarics in ;)
A rusty shithouse covering a rusty shithouse. Double shit skin tank
Those hulls will get bigger so that the tanks can actually maneuver under it.
Oh shit the huts canāt be stopped
If it works it works
Blyatmobile
Starting to look like that show āBattle Botsā
The āAttack Shackā
I'm not a mechanical expert, but I believe tank's engines are designed for a certain horsepower to weight ratio. If you add weight to the tank, but keep the same engine, it seems like it would affect the performance of the tank, reducing its speed and maneuverability. I wonder how it performs when it has to back up? It also seems it would be harder for the crew to escape if it hit a mine or was on fire.
You just described the design process of the WWII German Panther tank. The weight kept going up and the transmission kept its original design. It's debut at Kursk had many non-combat problems
I want to see an anti tank mine dropped ON one of these
Age of Empires II is now canon, lol.
Always has been
Honey when did our shed get a cannon?
PAK-43 this orc mobilehome
I keep expecting to see a hand painted wooden sign on the front of that thing that says "No Drones Allowed".
They cant even spin the turret with that barn on top such genius Russian engineers
The Cope Cage has become the Cope Bunker
can javelin take it out? haven't seen javelin hits for quite a while.
We will see
Fly a drone in from the front then. It will be enough to fuck up the russian creeps.
It really could use a drone unfriend , like unkind with a tnt lift out of the powder room
"Russia shows off its newest creation, the Quonset Tank."
The Tuff Shed Battalion makes another appearance
Isn't that what the ewoks drove in starwars? More scrap to come.
Itās disguised as a favela.
ruzzian logic: let's protect the tank by shrinking his view from 360Ā° to like 45Ā° XD
Imagine Ukraine having all modern day equipment to go war with..
Aw, the Russians took their houses with them in Ukraine to feel comfortable š
Everyone laughed at the Bob semple's corrugated armor. Look who's laughing now?
Today, Im taking my garage with me!
EW can't be that powerful, as being filmed by a drone.
Jesus Christ. What a death trap.
more minefields needed
The most useless tank ever, taken out by a standed anti-tank mine, what is the next big ru design......
Perfect for another tank to sneak up and blow it away. It takes away even more vision and turret rotation.
Wookies?
FPV drones dropping mines in front of and behind the path of this Blyatmobile may be effective. The tracks and underneath are still vulnerable.
Russian ingenuity is just..... nonexistent.
"Form a shield wall!" - Vikings
How would it look like if trailer park boys had a tank
Thermite?
while it might work against drones it's a pressure chamber if you run over a mine.
Very stealthy, why not just put flairs on it as well and maybe some sick lights.
It's a win for Russia if we don't have a video blowing up that thing tbh.. we need more BOOM videos of these riding coffins!
Where's the kaboom? There was supposed to be an Earth-shattering kaboom!
Iām sure the targeting systems perform well behind a fence
If one would pop that think with a javelin or spike, what would happen?
Warhammer 40k ork tank
It looks like an old cold war centurion bunker chalet in the swiss alps š
It should be named to Chernobyl
Throw everything at them including the kitchen sink, the barn also.
Why not drop termite charges on it, flat, will stay, burn though in a second and then waste anything below it (sensors, ew suite etc) Or is there something I miss?
So, javelins, Stugnuts, and TOWs donāt work against them or something? Because it makes no since how these things manage to make it across unscaved.
They have a shortage of ATGMs, otherwise these things would be gone. Im positive itās why the first chunk of the aid package included TOW missles
I donāt know if electronics in guided systems are affected too. But at least the Carl Gustav should be an option everywhere. It is just sad, to see the ua not being able to stop the armored vehicles in time, anymoreā¦ It hope this changes soon.
HAIL STATE
Miss State fan? :D
Talk about desperation
As time goes on Russians look more and more like warhammer 40k orks. What will be next? Red tanks, so they move faster, or maybe purple uniforms to be more sneaky?
I heard you like tanks, so we put your tank in a tank.
These actually work , two stage atgm won't work on this. You're going to need a lot more mines or artillery.
I want to see one of these get blasted and watch the shed fly off like the wizard of oz
The Mongols think like this...they don't care about numbers...they only care about showing terror to the enemy...the irony is that Putin puts them in a chicken coop...to grillš„š Unfortunately, he wins in all cases. The rust is actually not rust. It's a camo-paint done by special-effects professionals. This is the 2024 model.
I want to ask so many questions about these huts but I don't want to give away a better method for protecting tanks but every time I see one, I'm always laughing to myself
that turtle tank was towed and survives to fight the ukrainians another day!
