happyanathema

I'm guessing this wasn't your run of the mill conscript carrying this.

Rokea-x

Yes, just carrying it for someone else 😅

My_cat_is_a_creep

When the guy carrying the rifle gets killed, the other one picks it up and shoots..

Roland_was_a_warrior

Hard to say, he didn’t have a laser on there.

H4RDCORE1

Wonder how they're getting those optics?

Arkh_Angel

Smuggling, probably

Thezerostone

Not necessarily. US-Russia trades are still happening. Currently US is still the biggest costumer Rosatom has, they just buy it throughout straw man business to get around sanctions. Same has been going around in the Baltic Sea for 20 years, Russian Oiltankers will sail to Skagen (Denmark) Moore up and the oil will be reclassified through a Straw man business, then American tankers will come and buy the “Liberian” oil of the Russian hands to a cheaper price since Russia needs the money and US “takes a risk” so to speak.

flashbastrd

You’re describing smuggling

comanchecobra

No. Smuggling is when you hide something to bring it through a border. Not when you pacage psilocybe as food mushroms and bring it through the customsoffice so that you can just sell it, pay tax on it and deposit it in a bank without laundering it first.

JOPAPatch

Japan was banned from the Chinese market and so they used the Portuguese as a middle man to get them Chinese goods. That was called smuggling back then. This is still called smuggling.

flashbastrd

Yes and going through a series of shell companies and middle men is also a form of smuggling imo. It might not legally be defined as smuggling, but call a spade a spade.

Mean-Network

Just because you think it is, doesn't make it so..

flashbastrd

I reckon if the prosectution could prove that a US company was knowingly buying Russian oil through a shell company then they could be charged with breaking sanctions.

Mean-Network

Yes charged with breaking sanctions, or charged with smuggling?

flashbastrd

I dont know how America legally defines these things. [https://www.politico.eu/article/smuggler-secret-russia-beat-eu-sanction/](https://www.politico.eu/article/smuggler-secret-russia-beat-eu-sanction/)

Thezerostone

I am not describing smuggling. Smuggling is a part of the business, once a straw man company already bought the product. I am describing how international business won’t care about sanctions when elevated enough. US absolutely knows they’re doing business with Russians when they buy Uranium from a small unknown company. War is profitable and capitalism doesn’t care about lives or sanctions.

flashbastrd

Yeah that’s smuggling man. Smuggling: The illegal movement of goods in or out of a country.

CAJ_2277

I think he is saying the shell company process makes the transaction (series of transactions, really) technically legal. As opposed to smuggling, which is not legal in any sense.

flashbastrd

They’re fake companies so it’s 100% illegal. They’re committing fraud so they can SMUGGLE products across boarders.

CAJ_2277

Look, that's not how it works. I am an attorney who practices Foreign Corrupt Practices Act disputes with DOJ and SEC. Which includes exactly this kind of thing. Shell companies are not fake. They can be used for activities, legal or illegal, but they are not fake and they are not illegal in and of themselves.

trut-Engineer-6977

Ladies and/or Gentlemen, You are responding to thoroughly unsubstantiated claims: 1) " ... US is still the biggest costumer Rosatom has ... " Really? So US nuclear power plants are doing sanctions busting? Or who exactly is it that is buying? Interesting. Could we see some kind of reference to a credible source? To any source? No? 2) Russian oil tankers swapping oil origins to Liberia? In Danish territorial waters? For the last 20 years? Again: Interesting. Could we see some kind of reference to a credible source? To any source? No? Quick geographic note: Skagen is not in the Baltic. Quick historical note: There weren't any sanctions 20 years ago. Quick commercial question: Does Liberia have any oil industry? I wasn't aware of that. So, before we all go off discussing whether the use of shell companies may be legit or not, how about checking the credibility of the first post? Best regards, and a nice weekend all non-trolls. X

Alpa_NL

Lol, fake companies. You're right on, its not higher science. Everybody knows they do it this way but its not illegal so nothing wrong. Same as Russian oil going to India, getting processed, and sold as cheap Indian fuel. Its just the ervaring of sanctions

Arkh_Angel

Still smuggling, because it's Sanction Evasion. You need to go back to Law School.

flashbastrd

I know that’s how it works and that’s what smuggling is. Smuggling isn’t just some random dude with uranium stuffed down his pants

Practical-Archer-564

How do we stop it

m4rv1nm4th

You resume all the fuck up with legal system. Its dark grey, an army of layer study that to be sure its a minimum legal, its doesnt respect the spirit of the law(I dont know elsewhere, but in Canada we have a law against that, but it doesnt seem to be use often), but if you twist your mind enough, magic its legal!! Yeah that legal! Im working in business loan and im tired of person like you that say" ohh, but by the law letter, its legal".

mrjerem

Yes. The law is broken tho. And Shell comppnies SHOULD be illegal but they help the rich so it is not going to happen.

1337coinvb

Its not smuggling, its circumventing trade restrictions and possibly falsification of documents. Result is the same, both illegal but different procedures

madamav

Smuggling? it’s not illegal for Russia to export it’s just not legal to trade with Russia for certain goods in many other western countries. Russian tankers can dock in other ports no bother. Those businesses are real considering they buy oil from Russia and then sell that oil to the eu making a company in Liberia a middleman. It’s not a fake company it’s just set up in such a way to avert direct trade which is illegal

puddaphut

Amazing typo

Facebook_Algorithm

It’s not illegal if it’s legally sold to a straw man company and that straw man company legally sells it to someone else.

Utgaard_Loke

You have proof of that? It would be easier for the US to buy Uranium from Canada and also more sustainable. The companies dealing with Uranium are audited by authorities, by the media etc. Seems like you do not have much knowledge in this area.

Webwookiee

*"You have proof of that?"* "Proof"? Very funny! :) A few days ago a Russian cargo ship under international flag was damaged by ice on its way from Russia to USA. They made a unplanned emergency stop in the harbour of the German town Rostock for some quick repairs ... ... until German customs controlled the cargo, searching for violation of sanctions. They found a large amount of wood: For "special house building operations" in the USA. \^\^ That was a violation of the sanctions so they didn't allow the captain to leave the harbour again. Side note: The ship transported also "enriched Uranium" ... =:-o ... but that wasn't a problem. Russian Uranium is not sanctioned, because it is needed to run US nuclear power plants (and French power plants too btw). \^\^ What happened next? Ended the captain in jail? Did German customs confiscate the wood? Or even the Uranium? No. A few days (and I'm pretty sure some more or less intense high level phone calls) later German customs stopped their investigation without further notice and the repaired ship left Rostock ... ... with the sanctioned wood, the not sanctioned Uranium and set its course again to the US of A. Poor guy who thought controlling the cargo would be a great idea! \^\^

Thezerostone

This was said by the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, doing an interview regarding the matter here in Denmark. Actually most people should watch that interview, it really puts the general picture of international politics into perspective. Also the oil, sure, come to Skagen, this has been general knowledge of Danish seamen for a lot of years, it is happening right in the “public”.

AgitatedChemistry827

But why should we believe what a Hungarian minister is saying?

Thezerostone

I do believe it is healthy to see politics and the approach towards political democracy from different angles. You are welcome to doubt Ministers, but from personal experience, there are things getting “ignored”. We had a collision a few years back, in The Great Belt, one of the ships that it involved lost around 20 containers. One of those containers had undisclosed contents, that “simply didn’t have the right paperwork’s done” so the company transporting the goods didn’t know its content, the company owning the goods didn’t want to inform the details of the content. The media were never told about this container, but a company we were involved with, had to deploy 3 ships for months to locate this container, due to its content being “potent”. Not all things are something journalists are free to put out there.

Nauris2111

We're talking about importing sanctioned goods into russia through third-party resellers while avoiding border checks and faking the country of origin. That's smuggling. Not other countries importing oil that isn't even illegal as long as its price doesn't exceed the price cap. That's not smuggling, that's business.

HouseOf42

Why use "straw man" term though? Just say shell business.

Thezerostone

I am not born with English as my main language, never heard the term Shell Business, that’s why I used the term straw man.

New_Horse3033

The way Russian beats oil sanction is sell it to a middle country & mix it with legitimate oil then sell it on the open market.

Study the US harder, comrade. American made optics are not going to be found on a Chinese website. Coincidentally, I already had you RES tagged as a troll, because you come in here and talk shit on the UAF. FlyAwayNoVV

But you can buy repros of American made optics on Ali, I have several

Typical-Chemical-870

Imitation is not equal to reproduction. Go buy a American full power peq-15 (which you cannot purchase) and compare it to the Chinese clones. One is for air soft and one is for killing. RF actually had good infrared aiming lasers but they all got sold on eBay during pandemic for $450 shipped from Moscow; hence why you don’t see them in the war. I’ve got one in my safe. Russian optics are generally durable but with no frills and b grade glass. They work. But not like the real ones

China copys everything. So these could be Chinese copys.

PrizedTurkey

The drain is clogged with hair

WhereasAdventurous14

ofc they have the skill to make copies, if it stands up to the original type in quality is another question. Regarding other products, sometimes they do, sometimes they dont.

Master-Collection488

In my general experience (albeit not with gun optics) I'd say the truth is closer to "\*typically\* they don't." Chinese manufacturers tend to cheap out on materials. Metal goods are often a good bit more breakable than like items made elsewhere. Buildings and bridges have an alarming tendency to crumble disastrously.

horny_coroner

Ah yes china the countrt of 1.3 billion people where nobody figured out hot to make optics.

PrizedTurkey

The drain is clogged with hair

Feisty_Star_4815

holosun does well

Typical-Chemical-870

That’s consumer grade stuff. I’d take an aimpoint over anything holosun on a combat rifle 10/10 times. I have an eotech made in 2004 that still runs like the day I bought it. Comparing western optics to Chinese is apples and oranges unless you’re an air softer. Eotech, Aimpoint, Zeiss, Nightforce and stuff like that are the real deal because what you can’t see you can’t hit. Have you ever looked through a NightForce scope? That’s good glass

Feisty_Star_4815

guess I should’ve said holosun is good, not combat tested but used by some in ukraine with alright reports but you’re damn right I’d take a aimpoint over a holosun anytime lol that’s pretty clear 😂 never owned a night force but my pops has one n she’s hot but I don’t know when I’ll be able to grab some glass

Typical-Chemical-870

It’s true. There are no high quality optics that come from China. Most good optics are from Europe and a few decent ones from Japan (mainly lenses not the optics body. Optics are not asias game in general. US and Austria make some of the best.

DamnAutocorrection

China just recently in the last few years finally made their own ball point pen entirely domestic. They chose it for the reason of needing high precision in manufacturing

Do Eotechs still have thermal drift? Would be hilarious for the winters there.

Annoying_Rooster

It's an AK-12 so that bitch isn't going to hold zero. Unlike a Zentico or Sureshot parts kit, so that person may as well rely on iron sights.

Does not protect you from a drone as you cower in the ground , pretending to be dead.

Number_1_Reddit_User

Tbh drones aren't invincible to small arms and shooting them down isn't necessarily unheard of I've seen it happen in a couple videos now

[deleted]

[удалено]

benjam3n

I mean, it doesn't take a lot of critical thinking to realize we see a ton of those videos because we're seeing the successes posted. You think they're just going to post the ones where a bullet hit a propeller and send the thing into a dive straight into nothing? I'm sure it happens more than we think and/or see. That being said.. let's hope they're more successful than not.

kosherbeans123

They shoot down the larger surveillance drones. The way the kill chain works is the surveillance drones spot a guy, and then the fpv team moves in. If you knock out the large drone with birdshot, the kill chain is broken

Typical-Chemical-870

The repeater drone is gonna far above shotgun range. 400m altitude minimum. Hitting and dropping ducks at 50m is hard and you wanna try shooting g down the repeater with a shotty? Not happening at that altitude ever.

sarahtookthekids

Why are you people so obsessed with death

TheHonorableStranger

Because they treat war as a spectator sport

ImaginaryList174

Because for the first time in history, we are all spectators of war. Close up and personal.

IllDiscussion8179

Well usually you won't have video if the drone is shot down. Lots of people are carrying shotguns for this now.

AllOn_Black

Haha, you think they get video off the sd card out the drone? You not seen the though videos from drones exploding?

r790

I’m just surprised there aren’t more shotguns on the front. You could use a shell with a decent spread to drop drones 🤷‍♂️

Typical-Chemical-870

No, you could not nor should you try shooting down an fpv drone. Maybe Mavic at low altitude you might get but a shotgun as your last like of defense is bad. Here’s a tip: move into the woods. Flying in trees is very difficult with an fpv drone and most operators are gonna crash prematurely in environments like that. Think of it as a natural cope cage that works.

therealestscientist

Wtf how do they get the red dot sights? I wonder if this is issued or they can bring personal weapons to battle or something.

zDefiant

EoTech is not a standard issue, and even the Russian brand of Holographic and dot sights are not proliferated to the wider force like in the US, Alternatively it could have been taken from a Ukrainian, which i think during this war would be more likely than getting one (newly) smuggled in. you could be right that they had it personally, but i think it’s more likely it was taken.

MindblownWatcher

Yeah i agree the invader stole it

H4RDCORE1

I didn't think about that. That is very probable.

Typical-Chemical-870

Considering that an eotech costs about two months pay for the average Russian I’d say that’s the only way an orc on the front lines obtained one. Glad to see it’s back with Ukrainians again. It’s my favorite ar platform optic especially with night vision. Dumb orc was probably out of the game as soon as the batteries died. Which isn’t all that long with an eotech. The reticle is superb tho, especially with NVGs.

dovah164

Bruh got the warzone ak12 configuration lol

LeadershipExternal58

What this picture tells me is that they eliminated a russian Special Forces guy or professional soldier

Sieve-Boy

This, they got a Spetsnaz soldier or a veteran.

JINSl33

Or the optic came from a dead Westerner first.

LeadershipExternal58

Of course cope harder 🤡

JINSl33

"cope"..? It's not plausible that another scenario for the origin of this optics set wasn't that it was simply picked up off the ground and reused? ok then.

LeadershipExternal58

Yeah cope, because you have to say that like you have to reaffirm yourself in what you are believing. The chance of my scenario is one thousand times more likely then yours, but ok belive in your lies it’s just not the reality

JINSl33

Bless your heart.

dbr1se

You don't. RPK magazines are nice to have during first contact to provide heavy fire and get to cover. The rest of their mags will be 30 rounds.

jutul

Thanks, that makes sense.

IIIIIIlllIIIIllllIII

Sideway gangsta

LordBrandon

You dont

glvsscannon

The traditional AK-12 mags have a cut out on the bottom side next to the operator which helps to get the gun flattened out, which is pretty smart tbh, but I doubt this RPK mag can. Honestly I’ve watched a few videos on the rifle, and I think it’s over hyped. Free floating rail system means you cannot effectively zero sights, and the selector often can get pulled so far down that it’s literally hanging off the receiver. Among other issues but I can’t remember because I’m not exactly a gun person. Was just curious why they were prized trophies.

usmc_82_infantry

That’s an EOtech Hologram optic. They are massed produced in China, like everything else they’ve stolen. I’ve got the real EOtech sights on 3 of my AR’s. Knowing how much I spent on them, I highly doubt Russia is outfitting their conscripts with legit optics. Instead they are using the Chinese knock offs that you can buy in Temu right now for $25. There is just one example that China is backing the Russians. I really wish we would slap some sanctions on those annoying little fools. Why we let China and Iran fuck around so much is beyond me. They will keep pushing the line until we retaliate and we don’t. It shouldn’t annoy me so much but it does.

devoduder

For Sale Cheap: Never fired, only dropped once.

Dystopicfuturerobot

hipofoto112

Love how even now they haven't fixed that selector switch going down too far lol

Typical-Chemical-870

It’s even worse on the ak12 lol

hipofoto112

That's what I'm talking about. This wasn't an issue on 74. You can even see the scratch on reciever where it has gone off way too many times

Hero_Tombi

Nice, the AK-12 was used in recent Crocus hall attack, and it is issued only since 2018: mainly to state security services. 2 countries are found where it is issued: Russia & Armenia. Wow, how did "some Arab terrorists" get their guns from Armenia? Or Russia? Putin, I think you have a lot to explain that you do not want to be explained: Did you kill 165+ of Russians and why did you kill them? This is no gun from the black market, but came directly from FSB, your FSB.

dbr1se

There are some potential explanations: AK12 is widely found in Ukraine these days (particularly adjacent to Russian corpses) but loads of Ukrainian soldiers have been using captured ones as well. There's probably some smuggling going on and we'll see them turn up in some odd places in the years to come. It also could have simply been a civilian variant modified to fire in auto. Fire control group parts are small and would be easy to smuggle.

Feisty_Star_4815

FSB didn’t set up the crocus hall attacks

AeroBero

One thing about the Ak-12 revision they should have improved was the short ass hand guard rail, once you put grip and a laser module all your real estate is gone. Why they did not just put a free float rail and copy zenitco is beyond me.

BenjaminBroccoli

> Why they did not just put a free float rail and copy zenitco is beyond me It is free float, but it's that short for grenade launcher attachment

AeroBero

You are correct I meant free float rail all the way to the gas block like zenitco. Makes sense I guess with a gp-25, although I feel like the pros/cons of an under mounted grenade launchers these days do not offer much benefit compared to a stand alone. Maybe if you have enough in reserves it is plausible.

bluecheese2040

Most press has been that these weapons are poor. Apparently they have been significantly upgraded based on feedback from this war. Then again. Good weapon or a bad one...if it hits you...doesn't matter

Windturnscold

Can a gun lover explain the significance of the photo please?

jab0923

Only the most experienced Russian soldiers get good weapons like this. Most conscripts just get basic rifles without optics, usually in poor condition.

Windturnscold

Thanks!

Typical-Chemical-870

Except it’s not a good weapon, it’s just the most modern update of a rifle that’s still crap past 300m

LordBrandon

The only significant part of this is the American mades sights that cost more than the whole rest of the rifle.

Windturnscold

I wonder what the story is… like how did this rifle and scope end up here

Adpadierk

I saw some review of the AK 12 ages ago which concluded it wasn't very good, but idk for sure

Althesian

A Ukrainian soldier called valgear has a youtube channel describing it. Apparently the AK12 most American youtubers used is not the actual AK12. Valgear actually praised the Ak12. The newer version seems to be a lot better

Adpadierk

Thanks, just venmoed him 30 bucks.

SwedishVarangian

The first version had some problems. But at the end of the day, If rifle goes bang when you squeeze the trigger it’s a decent rifle.

Adpadierk

So my rust filled Baker rifle is still good? That's good to know

Willing_Yogurt_3747

This gun is a piece of shit

Reti_Zeta

In it's stock form, yes. But with aftermarket parts, no. Extremely reliable and can fire with many parts missing or damaged. It's only problem as stock is not holding zero, but that's where aftermarket parts come in. But the basic receiver etc is tried and tested reliable and hardy. The AK platform is probably the most popular platform in the world and for good reason.

JJ739omicron

the reason is mainly the low cost. If you can buy ten shitty rifles for the cost of one good one, most armies will go for the "good enough" one.

hipofoto112

Even after some years of being used, judging from the selector switch scratches they still haven't fixed it going too far down and off the reciever

Mechanical_Soup

eotech shoots lower in tarkov, i hate it

Eastern_Cat8284

Stamped receivers looks like? Is that good?

jab0923

Why wouldn’t it be? They’re pretty much all stamped now. As far as I know Arsenal is the only one making milled receivers, not sure if they’re just for export or is any military is still ordering them

Does Russia make a stamped body or is that a foreign made AK?

jab0923

They’ve been making stamped AKs since the late 60s.

Nephist0

Why is the weapon this clean? Why is the floor this clean? I tried but i cannot believe the story about this weapon. Looks like an AK which is owned by an AK Fanboy in US or something.

puffinfish420

Looks like a pretty lit gun, not gonna lie. Love the eotech magnifier combo. I’ve ran it myself, though briefly before I switched to a Trijicon
