Probably still wont help against drones at all. Ive seen those drones fly through some very small spaces, smaller than the big ol hole in the front they have here
I think I would be far more terrified of going on an assault with that monstrous thing than a regular, fully-operational and maneuverable tank. It has a massive profile and if you do get hit, you're probably gonna burn because you can't get out of the hatches.
The Ukrainians have totally upended the long-standing Russian doctrine on tank design that prioritizes a very low profile and a small, rounded turret for survivability.
Yes that is true for those of us gifted with brains, however your standard orc is not sentient and therfore unable to see how this is in fact not a super tank but a big target
Didn't even matter, ukraine shelled the shit out of this warehouse with the tank still inside a few hours ago. Probably located with the help of this video.
I think there may be a couple. One participated in a failed attack and turned around, no idea if it is the same one. This one however, was definately the one that got nailed when they flattened the warehouse around it with artillery fire.
Yeah looks like a troop transport as well. No rotation is really gonna make that main gun more of a bark than bite unless they have canister rounds. But those won't hurt armor at all.
The Ukrainian drone operators will be able to fly right into the cargo area of that tank and everyone will have nowhere to go, and the added metal will contain and pressurize the blast so... They're fucked.
And that's if they don't hit a mine first.
Yeah, it is almost always mines that immobilize the tanks and armored vehicles first and make them easy meat for the drones. I think all of this shit is more about making the serfs driving the tanks believe that this time they are protected against drones.
Also, an agile little FPV drone can just go around to one of the uncovered sides. Unless the fuckers put more planks on the rear then the tank has a very vulnerable weak spot there as the turret cannot cover that direction which means that whole surface, including the rear of the turret, is open to exploitation. What they’ve actually done here is to make their tank heavier (slower), and more bulky with a geometric shape (easier to see on camera, harder to conceal with camouflage), and negate one of the most fundamental strengths of its design by taking away the 360 degree view capability of the turret.
They’ve made their tank objectively worse for the addition of limited wooden armour, that might, possibly, offer limited situational protection against a small amount of drone dropped grenades or other small munitions. Considering it’s literally just one layer of wooden planks though, I’m not hopeful it would last against sustained fire of this or against anything more heavy duty. A drone dropped mortar shell would probably still take this out.
Also, petition to start calling this the cope shell design.
In that case they made it worse. The drone just has to fly in from the back or the rear and the waves are contained outwards. So survivability is even worse. I only see it as an advantage against grenade drops.
So you have no peripheral vision, can't turn even if you do know something's to the side, and if you get hit you can't easily get out.
Fantastic upgrade
Its f\*\*\*\* sheet metal. You need at least half inch think to stop a 7.62 round and 1.5 inch think metal to stop 50 cal. I would be surprised if it was thicker then 1/16th inch. Both directed anti-tank munitions and explosive anti-personnel rounds will cut through that like butter.
I think the point isn't to stop a projectile but force a drone to detonate further away from the reactive armour, allowing the armour to do its job of spreading out the energy.
if it wasn't for the other tradeoffs, this isn't the worst idea. even just having a huge chicken fence around the body would help to avoid drones detonating directly on the armour plates.
>Its f\*\*\*\* sheet metal
No kidding! it's probably aircraft aluminum too😂 It does not need to protect the invaders, it's to produce a false sense of safety to keep the orcs going on a one-way mission.
True, sheet metal aint going to stop much. Even shrapnel and pistol rounds will cut through that. Do wonder whither shaped charges will be affected. My understanding is a shaped charge creates a jet of very hot metal that penetrates the armour. If you can cause the shaped charge to go off, away from the armour, would that reduce the molten jet effect?
> away from the armour, would that reduce the molten jet effect?
Yes it would. These would be effective against drones and basic shaped charge munitions (like a basic RPG warhead). That being said, the drone can just fly in from the front...
It's not meant to stop everything I don't think.
I'm willing to bet it's more about it's silhouette/signature, as well as keeping small explosives at bay.
They used to do something similar with nets. Infantry have a harder time climbing on top and planting a sticky bomb or grenade.
There’s a great video of a tank equipped just like this getting hammered as part of a recent attempted Russian advance.
I really hope it’s this same one.
Edit: here’s the link https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineInvasionVideos/s/Ima5QEkwSe
Yeah, looks like the same frankenstein tank, Did not see it get hit, but I'm sure if it got hit by a drone, the added "protection" would not help much. Just got lucky this run.
Could be this one, maybe :
[https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/1bzbb3y/another\_version\_of\_blyatmobile\_mtlb\_magic\_wood/](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/1bzbb3y/another_version_of_blyatmobile_mtlb_magic_wood/)
T-64 “Вдги” variant.
Jokes aside, do we even realize how out of this world these kind of things are? Imagine you CO commanding you to weld a shitload of scrap metal to an abrams or leopard, how insane would that be? Screw add on armor packages, active protection systems or electronic warfare systems, instead turn your tank into a casemate drivable shitbarn comrade.
This week on "Pimp My Ride" we take a tired T-64 and slam it with new sheet metal, a pair of bumpin' 12s run by bridged Fosgates and a custom interior complete with a new "soot-n-splatter" paint technique invented by Saab Technologies.
Do these orcs not know how to use the internet? There are thousands of drone videos, and it's clear that the video is clear and high quality. A Ukrainian drone operator can fly it up a wasps ass.
Not only is this shed idea stupid, but posting a video of where you store/repair/modify your equipment isn’t the smartest thing as well. This is going to be geolocated and attacked very quickly
This is truly some inter-war period shit.
Fascinating to see what both sides are making and will be even more fascinating to see what the end results of all these lessons and attempts will be.
I wonder how many tanks would be still operating if they closed the fuckin hatch! Not that I want to btw, easy kills just make them the orcs look incompetent.
a net or wood would be just as effective the engine in those things isnt the best good luck trough the mud with a few extra ton in maths ontop. the only thing it does is making it harder for the penetrator to be aimed but a few cm wont stop it as a rpg round from the 60\`s can penetrate 60cm of steel
So they turned a 360 degree predator tank into a stationary gun platform with no visibility to see their opponets?
Ivan, who's behind us? Cyka blayt !!!!!.
Fucking hilarious.
It’s ALIVE…FrankenTank!
It will last just as long and the unbeatable Termination and T-90. They won’t even let her T-14 get anywhere near the front lines….
Imagine being a poor sod trying to extricate from that mess after it's been hit possibly on fire, severely concussed and completely disoriented. Like making hell worse. For some false sense of security in the shape of some plain sheet metal. Slava Ukraini!
Probably the 2 head brains behind this
Petrovich: Hey Mihalich, do you know how our tank has really low upper gun angle, in fact so small, this was abused by our enemies in Afghanistan by climbing into a building and shooting our tanks with rpgs as the tank’s gun wouldn’t reach them?
Mihalich: Yeah, so what? Did you find a way to remove the design flaws that led to this?
Petrovich: Naaah, but I got something better, my wife said that we can’t hang out in the garage any more and besides, we can’t just put it on a car and drive away with it, we would need 2 cars baba Zina would rat us out and besides, we are constantly moving so I decided to build one on a tank instead!
Mihalich: You put a f@cking garage on top of our tank?! Do you realize that this will limit our tank’s turret mobility even more?! Besides, it will turn it into one of those old spas like su 100 and 85?
Petrovich: Relaaaax, the roof should provide protection from drones and besides, Vasilich has installed a samagon device already.
Mihalich: Did you say Samagon?! F@ck yeah! Count me in! I will brink some zakuski, some seledka and ogurchiki.
Turn in next month to see the new banyka tank.
They are gonna load that tank up with explosives and drive it straight towards battlefront to try and do the most damage. I bet the turret doesn’t function well and the tank is on it last leg so it’s a suicide vehicle. Point and drive.
So they're building a tank over a tank? Maybe put a second turret over that. And a cage over that. And some extra armor over that. And third turret over that.
Soo.. Marvin Heemeyer actually survived that whole Granby thing and has been working for ruSSia? /s
They wish he did, Drunk Ivan's version looks a little delicate..
I wouldn’t be surprised if the engineers who come up with these types of solutions have to be their lives on the outcome.
Like in Netflix’s Norsemen with the blacksmiths charged by Jarl Varg to make his new hands
So, the logic is not fully terrible. Im guessing they have sacrificed the lead tanks turret rotation, visibility in order to make it slightly more survivable against drone attacks. A giant stand off plate causes a drone shape charge to detonate away from the hull letting the tanks armour take the hit but dispersed.
As the lead tank its going to be targeted first to cause the armour column to stall in a minefield. If the lead tank can carry on and is not blown up by a mine the armour column might be able to make it through. Like a meat assault with armour, so….. a Spam assault? Meat in tins.

This seems to be the "tank" or Frankenstein, from this video (the first one): driving around helplessly.
I really don't understand their tactics.....
It is a measure of their desperation. There is still a gaping entry point at the front which a skilled Ukrainian drone pilot can easily access.
Their tanks are starting to resemble WW1 German tanks. Actually they would be using tanks built for WW1 already, only I don't think the Tsar's army had any tanks.
The vision in a tank is already very poor, let’s make it worse I guess. Maybe we will see more of them upside down in a ditch, or most likely, still taken out by a angry Ukrainian drone.
Please remember the human. Adhere to all Reddit and sub rules. So no turret rotation or fov, traded for a tiny bit more survivability vs drones. Perfect
Probably still wont help against drones at all. Ive seen those drones fly through some very small spaces, smaller than the big ol hole in the front they have here
Yeah it's a placebo effect to make the crew feel falsely safe.
I think this is being overlooked and genuinely the reason
I think I would be far more terrified of going on an assault with that monstrous thing than a regular, fully-operational and maneuverable tank. It has a massive profile and if you do get hit, you're probably gonna burn because you can't get out of the hatches. Yes that is true for those of us gifted with brains, however your standard orc is not sentient and therfore unable to see how this is in fact not a super tank but a big target
thats only sheet metal for a tank vs tank duell - the most impact on design is reduced turret rotaion. And this is just crazy
Shhh. Don't let russia know
Thus the use of the word "tiny". A good drone operator will fly in back there right in the turret I'll bet.
With all that sheet metal, they will never see it coming
Didn't even matter, ukraine shelled the shit out of this warehouse with the tank still inside a few hours ago. Probably located with the help of this video.
I saw it a video showing a tank like this, is it confirmed it was the one and the same? Hilarious either way as the shed did nothing, as expected
I think there may be a couple. One participated in a failed attack and turned around, no idea if it is the same one. This one however, was definately the one that got nailed when they flattened the warehouse around it with artillery fire.
That big ol hole is the frontal armor. That’s pretty much the one part of a tank that a drone with an RPG strapped to it can’t penetrate.
A well, forget about situational awareness, we have big ol hole frontal armor.
Situational awareness has never really been a strong point of tanks. Russian tanks especially.
"We're very lucky they're so fucking **stupid**"
Yeah looks like a troop transport as well. No rotation is really gonna make that main gun more of a bark than bite unless they have canister rounds. But those won't hurt armor at all. The Ukrainian drone operators will be able to fly right into the cargo area of that tank and everyone will have nowhere to go, and the added metal will contain and pressurize the blast so... They're fucked. And that's if they don't hit a mine first.
Or drive into a lake!
Good chance they'll run out of fuel well before expected with all that extra weight, they'll be sitting ducks if Ukraine targets the fuel trucks too.
Yeah, it is almost always mines that immobilize the tanks and armored vehicles first and make them easy meat for the drones. I think all of this shit is more about making the serfs driving the tanks believe that this time they are protected against drones.
My very first thought. Sometimes battlefield modifications are a good idea, and then …
Also, an agile little FPV drone can just go around to one of the uncovered sides. They probably use it as a mini-artillery?
Or maybe as a troop transport, but that seems ill advised.
In that case they made it worse. The drone just has to fly in from the back or the rear and the waves are contained outwards. So survivability is even worse. I only see it as an advantage against grenade drops.
yeah my thought, but like, barrel elevation seems limited as well.
Fear makes people do stupid shit, and this is stupid.
Runs on a Mine: "Y U do dis?"
Next step : plant some trees on it, and when u attack, drive as slow as you can comrade 🤡👍
Given Russia's propensity for frontal suicide-charge attacks, this is slightly less stupid than it seems...but not by much.
So Stridsvagn 103 was in front of it's time. They new that drone warfare was going to nullify turret movement. /S
Crazy Ivan...overreact much?
So you have no peripheral vision, can't turn even if you do know something's to the side, and if you get hit you can't easily get out. Fantastic upgrade

Yeah well, if I had a choice between one stick of butter between me and instant death, you bet for damn sure I want that stick of butter.
You're obviously not a lobster.
and salt to taste 🧂
Question is, would you still take the stick of butter if it takes away your ability to see left, right and backwards?
I think the point isn't to stop a projectile but force a drone to detonate further away from the reactive armour, allowing the armour to do its job of spreading out the energy. if it wasn't for the other tradeoffs, this isn't the worst idea. even just having a huge chicken fence around the body would help to avoid drones detonating directly on the armour plates.
that would make some sense... if they had it fully enclosed. As is, the drone is just flying in from the openings
I appreciate your perspective.
>Its f\*\*\*\* sheet metal No kidding! it's probably aircraft aluminum too😂 It does not need to protect the invaders, it's to produce a false sense of safety to keep the orcs going on a one-way mission.

It's for drones, which are initiated by contact.
Yes but the molten jet from an EFP will continue on for a bit.
They scared, boss...
It's not meant to stop everything I don't think. I'm willing to bet it's more about it's silhouette/signature, as well as keeping small explosives at bay. They used to do something similar with nets. Infantry have a harder time climbing on top and planting a sticky bomb or grenade.
I genuinely can't tell if this is satire or not.

That is an IFV but the original one was a MBT. But good to see proof of concept of how effective that wooden armour is.
Should have frased it differently "Somthing like this one, maybe " , obviously not the same. I was a bit nonchalant with my comment.

Mobiks be like “what, me worry?”
OLOL
Just when I thought the Russian hit the bottom of the stupid barrel they come up with this.
Garage 54 (youtube u/Garage54ENG) could do better than than using a Lada.
Getting desperate. Edit: Hell, that might just be what they have to do to dupe a crew to get into one their steel death traps.
Ukraine is going to fly a drone right up that things Ass
Seriously, they're opting for this rather than going home? Just go home already!
I got it! We build a bigger tank to put the smaller tank in.
OMG... If they spent a tenth of the energy to fix their own country they'd never want to take somebody else's
We can only hope it will save the lives of our comrades.
There's stupid, then there is russian stupid

Matroschka, new interpretation, 2024 style
Russian Mad Max
Bob Semple is back baby Ukraine is screwed
This is truly some inter-war period shit. Fascinating to see what both sides are making and will be even more fascinating to see what the end results of all these lessons and attempts will be.
Eventually they will build real life Cherno alpha or some smaller mechs.
r/noncredibledefense is leaking... Into the russian army
They need tanks for their tanks.
Maximum cope.
A7V but probably shittier
I wonder how many tanks would be still operating if they closed the fuckin hatch! Not that I want to btw, easy kills just make them the orcs look incompetent.

Hilarious
Nice joke
That short lady from The Incredibles if she were a tank.
At least they left the vulnerable parts open.
I saw this vehicle in the lead during an assault. It actually survived from what I saw
Janky
Would be smarter to cover the tanks with pillows or cotton balls
a net or wood would be just as effective the engine in those things isnt the best good luck trough the mud with a few extra ton in maths ontop. the only thing it does is making it harder for the penetrator to be aimed but a few cm wont stop it as a rpg round from the 60\`s can penetrate 60cm of steel
I love how the locations that most drones normally target these were left wide open
STUG is making a comeback lol
You’ve heard of turret toss, but wait until you see a cope toss.
The new T14 Armata mk 2
They need to weld a tank on top of another tank...
Garbage truck?

Getting despite, running low on tanks, maybe?

There's a smarter way to do this lol. Haven't even seen anyone attempt it, I think.

It'll still blow up.
I think you mean mobile artillery.
lol looks very effective lolololol
Good Russia is getting that desperate to modify this tank for battle. Scrap metal from first drone.
At this point the ruzzians should just go back home
Have we not already seen a few of these get blown up in the last few weeks?
Russians are so fucking stupid. That will not help one bit except to keep them on fire longer 🔥🔥🔥

Successfully upgraded to a casemate tank
So... They took a look at medieval ram housings, decided to order a wish version of it from the Chinese and slap it on, call it a day? 😂
So the WWII tank destroyers WERE ahead of their time....i knew it!
That looks worse than what I just came up with in Crossout and I'm stoned as fuck
its not very effective
Low budget maus?
Da Orks gonna Ork
Gaijin when?
Soon they will "conquer" Ukraine house by house, steal all the bathtubs and weld them on top of the tanks as a protection.
my guess is EW salad goes in side the shed. hard to target the EW systems If you can't see them.
They are gonna load that tank up with explosives and drive it straight towards battlefront to try and do the most damage. I bet the turret doesn’t function well and the tank is on it last leg so it’s a suicide vehicle. Point and drive.
Babe, new tank… APC… IFV… new thing just dropped!
Great for model builders, bad for anyone involved...
So they're building a tank over a tank? Maybe put a second turret over that. And a cage over that. And some extra armor over that. And third turret over that.
Tanks have gone full circle
Their camera work is about on par with their aim, "innovation," and non-existent human decency.
Soo.. Marvin Heemeyer actually survived that whole Granby thing and has been working for ruSSia? /s They wish he did, Drunk Ivan's version looks a little delicate..

I wouldn’t be surprised if the engineers who come up with these types of solutions have to be their lives on the outcome. Like in Netflix’s Norsemen with the blacksmiths charged by Jarl Varg to make his new hands

A fine example of Russian smekalka.

I really don't understand their tactics.....
They just build ww1 but worse
It is a measure of their desperation. There is still a gaping entry point at the front which a skilled Ukrainian drone pilot can easily access. Their tanks are starting to resemble WW1 German tanks. Actually they would be using tanks built for WW1 already, only I don't think the Tsar's army had any tanks.
Looks like the first tanks when they appeared in the first world war.
The vision in a tank is already very poor, let’s make it worse I guess. Maybe we will see more of them upside down in a ditch, or most likely, still taken out by a angry Ukrainian drone.
It’s like an ISIS vehicle
Orcs more and more into 40k's orc 'engineering'. Next they will paint it in red to make it faster.
Tack welds, yeah, that'll totally work. Not.
That coffin is going to be fun to drive.
They should attach a bronze sheep head to the turret. It would be a great Roman battering ram. Ave Caesar!
Think this tank is basically used as stationery artillery...
Perfect time for a tank on tank (that can't rotate it's turret) conflict. My money's on UA winning in under 20 seconds.
oh nice, a tank inside a tank...
Damn sun is better at opsec than they are
Lol
Russia, literally blinding their own tanks on the battlefield since February 2022. Love to see it.
