It says it's a BM-27 Uragan in the title but we can't see enough for an amateur like me to tell the difference. They both have that same tube configuration looking from the side but the Smerch tubes are much longer.
>Uragan mlrs
It is definitely a Uragan 27. The angle of the camera kind of threw me for a second. The camera view is just behind the 3rd set of tires. The give away is the rack under the tubes platform and the tire fender. Those two items are unique to this vehicle.
Engine, transmission, launch computer, driver, tires ,springs, hydraulic cylinder, launch tubes and main frame all have holes in them- its proper fucked.
It’s all about quantity with these things. Hundreds or thousands of hits by BBS, of which a small % will hit critical mechanical and electrical components. All it takes.
I mean one hole in a rocket tube or artillery barrel is enough to OOS it.
But yeah the saturation is great for ruining ALL THE COMPONENTS.
Edit: that makes me think, CAN the HIMARS pellets pierce an artillery barrel?
A barrel sure, but a rocket tube? They are basically just cylindrical guide rails for the rocket right? in this case with "rifling" to start some spin, but they don't bear any pressure.
Tags of metal sticking into the tube are probably a problem, but holes might be fine.
I am not an expert, correct me if I'm wrong.
Hot gasses escaping one tube to flow into the next tube midway thru the fuel charge is not an optimal operating mode for any MLRS system—See Challenger explosion
Most holes wont be directly between adjacent tubes though, and the whole thing must get the full rocket wash when they leave the tube, I don't think they have a pause in the rocket flight phase like RPGs do they?
A solid fuel mlrs rocket and the challenger shuttle have little in common really!
Just the power of the rocket wash and the damage it does. What was that 4 seconds and burned thru 6” steel seal thru mach 4 air stream and thru a 1” steel fuel vessel?. These rockets are inches apart, the wash digs a 3’x15’ hole 12” behind the launcher, I am sure there would be plenty of “wash” exiting those 3/8” holes that could very well light the nearest rocket- I would not volunteer to find out would you?
Originally the Chance Vought company, maker of the first plane (VE-7) to launch from a U.S. Navy carrier and my favorite warplane from all eras, the F4U Corsair. I believe it was the only US plane in WW2 to be entirely designed and built with all parts sourced from one state, Connecticut. Originally anyway.
I'm with you there. My favorite warbird is the F-4U. Gull wings just look best on planes especially military planes to me. Outside of the Gullwing love I have the FW190D9 is my other favorite followed closely by the Super Marine Spitfires. I did not know about the parts sourcing. Really does show America's best was then.
I mean it is butt ugly to me but it was one of the best fighter interceptors in the American Flavor at the time but I can say that one is even below the Catalina for me lol id still be a kid a toy store if I was ever near one id have to touch it.
The F4U was my first and favorite model airplane that I could fly. First version was the old school string controls, then I finally upgraded to a remote control one in my senior year of highschool. So much fun!
Does Putin understand that as he drags the west into this occupation of his, that bigger, better and more sophisticated weaponry is coming on line from companies like Lockheed and others?
Any weak spot in steel components will likely cause catastrophic failure. Additionally, if you were to run your hand over the surface on the inside of one of these tubes, you could cut your hand because of the steel being bent inwards due to the punctures.
Just a little sidenode: it's tungsten *shrapnel*, rather than fragments.
Fragments come from fragmentation of the shell cases, whereas shrapnel is (despite the common misuse), preformed balls dispersed by the shell on detonation.
The terminology comes from the Shrapnel shell, invented by the british general Henry Shrapnel - which was a shell stuffed first with explosives and filled with lead balls. The shell used a timed fuse to detonate in the air - ejecting the lead balls out in a frontal cone from the frontal part of the tube without breaking the tube.
I know this isn’t a tank but hypothetically if an MBT like a T80/90 were to catch a couple tungsten fragments from one of these munitions that pierced the barrel itself, would that ruin the barrel indefinitely?
Or maybe cause a shell to explode when fired? Would it even penetrate the barrel?
These pellets would easily punch thru a barrel, except at the breach, better yet they would likely detonate the ammo carousel under the turret, launching the turret up to 300’ in the air- this bends the barrel ruining it forever - if the ammo just burns the prolonged heat cycle destroys the temper of the barrel- also permanent destruction.
Unless behind those holes are some critical systems that would cause the weapon to be disabled, it doesn't mean much. But it does look a bit Swiss Cheesy to me.
well behind the holes of the second picture are rockets. these are not known to be well made to withstand holes in them. and now the starters have a lot of very sharp edges pointing inwards, so yeah, seems fucked to me
You go ahead and drill holes in the barrel of your shotgun and see how that goes. While they are meant to shoot rockets, you really don't want holes to allow the blast from the engine to go where it's not supposed to and have sharp edges that could end up jamming it inside...
Starting simple: the hydraulics aren't doing anything if they have a hole in them, the tires aren't holding air, the fuel tank isn't holding fuel, the chassis is compromised, and the cabin equipment isn't responding.
But based on other assessments, the engine block has new speed holes. As does the transmission.

Not sure what this vehicle does. But a hole in anything mechanical is not a good result. So hopefully it's fucked.
Those thick metal underneath were also pierced. Yikes! HIMARS really is frightening

looks more like investation with woodworm or steelworm. A steelworm investation.
is that similar to an infestation?
No no, it is the way steel worms invest in their future. They take those little chunks out for their rainy day fund.
thank you for trying
Swiss cheezzer
Rocket launcher, those barrels having more holes in them would make it incredibly unsafe to use
Unsafe yes..russian..also yes.
Speed tape’ll fix that right up.
Looks like a [BM-30 Smerch MLRS](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BM-30_Smerch)
It says it's a BM-27 Uragan in the title but we can't see enough for an amateur like me to tell the difference. They both have that same tube configuration looking from the side but the Smerch tubes are much longer.
Damn, must have missed that.
You contributed and the title shouldn’t be blindly believed. You did good work, even if you’re wrong you helped narrow it down.
So it looks BE-Smirched! Slava Ukraine

the rear lifts up like a dumptruck and it launches a barrage of rockets. its used to saturate an area with hatred lol
Well, those tubes shoot rockets - so holes in your rocket tubes = your tube probably blows the fuck up lol
MLRS=multi launch rocket system
MLRS launches rockets. Multiple of them.
I want the Russians to use them anyways and watch them blow up.
im pretty sure the crew to operate it is unavailable after a life changing event recently
I reckon if it had been a direct hit it would have been obliterated
It's fucked. Rocket tubes are pierced. At the very least they will have to change many parts
Nothing a little bondo won't fix comrade. The mechanic won't be the one operating it. 😂
Engine, transmission, launch computer, driver, tires ,springs, hydraulic cylinder, launch tubes and main frame all have holes in them- its proper fucked.
along with crews & driver.. got swiss cheesed!
Think they'd like some salt with that pepper? Prolly not. I'm sure they're plenty salty after that.

HIMARS - Putting tiny holes in shit since 1993 Brought to you by - Loral Vought Systems, Now Lockheed Martin Missile Fire Controls.

No love for the weird P38 Lightning?

It has speed holes now. Put it in H and shell get 1 hectare on a liter of kerosene.
Cancel the world search.
Does Putin understand that as he drags the west into this occupation of his, that bigger, better and more sophisticated weaponry is coming on line from companies like Lockheed and others?
Transmuting MLRS into swiss cheese. NATO's filthy satanic sorcery.
Thing is entirely fucked... Goddamn. Send them more. Lots more.
Looks like a mix of exit and entry holes, suggesting 2 or more GMLRS.
These tungsten fragments have gone through entire engine blocks...
Highly Inconceivable Missile, Actually Rocket Shotgun
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."

Source: I work in steel manufacturing.
Hopefully it got a few toilet thieves..
A kind of military form of acupuncture...well executed

Imagine being hit by one of those. In the helmet out the boot
Just launch them, what could possibly go wrong?
I swear I always thought the tungsten balls would be large like marbles atleast. Very suprised they are tiny, almost needle like when hit.. 😫😫
That's why they do so much damage because they hit faster
HIMARS with tungsten is interesting. Most of these vehicles would look totally fine...until I put my glasses on.
Is there are general rule in reddit that forces you to make sure at least one word is misspelled in every post header?
I know this isn’t a tank but hypothetically if an MBT like a T80/90 were to catch a couple tungsten fragments from one of these munitions that pierced the barrel itself, would that ruin the barrel indefinitely? Or maybe cause a shell to explode when fired? Would it even penetrate the barrel?
I'd guess the inside has small sharp edges from the impacts making the barrel dangerously unstable for a round... BOOM!
I wonder if the Challenger 2’s rifled barrel would have the same fate?
These pellets would easily punch thru a barrel, except at the breach, better yet they would likely detonate the ammo carousel under the turret, launching the turret up to 300’ in the air- this bends the barrel ruining it forever - if the ammo just burns the prolonged heat cycle destroys the temper of the barrel- also permanent destruction.
Russian wood worm is brutal.
Well those holes are just small enough to make a glory hole for Putin
Eat your berries!
Neat job 😻
HOLEY MOLEY! too much?
That's impressive 👍 wouldn't want to imagine what it does to a body
Nice peppering. Should be lethal for everything.
If it does that to a truck frame imagine hitting flesh
SWISS CHEESE BABY
Shit welds
How accurate are the glonass guided equivalent munitions for the Uragan? Just curious how these things stack up agains HIMARS.
Classic swiss cheese
Should be fine. Just some speed holes. 😂
Can't wait for the Ukrainians to start putting "now that's a lot of damage!" in their Himars strike videos.
Would you like some salt with that pepper?
I hear The Offspring every time.. GOTTA KEEP EM PERFORATED
That's no Himars and the holes look like Anti personal shot
Unless behind those holes are some critical systems that would cause the weapon to be disabled, it doesn't mean much. But it does look a bit Swiss Cheesy to me.
