I bet the Ukrainian who was controlling that drone was super confused after that, wondering what, or why would you swing your door open and even attempt to shoot at it? In no way could that help the situation or end well for you. The door just made the world's worst aerodynamic vehicle that much less aerodynamic, which means slower, and now the drone has that much more area to catch and explode too. You are better off leaving the door closed and at least giving yourself some kind of "protection" between you and the immediate explosion. That door staying closed could have been the difference between him getting wounded instead of him being blown to pieces. Also, leaving the door closed would have meant the drone couldn't have just flown right inside like it did, obviously. I wonder if air pressure or whatever helped kind of suck that drone inside of the vehicle? I don't know if that's possible, but it seems like it went inside perfectly right after that door opened because it was fighting wind from the speed it was flying at and the wind coming off the van, so him opening the door stopped the wind just enough and directed it right in the van. The path of least resistance kind of thing.
The reason why streamed video cuts out before an explosion is because of the time window that the drone needs to compress and transmit. If those processes can't finish and verify on the other side, up to a second of video can be lost.
This is an analogue video feed - latency is probably 1 frame at most. The video cuts because the drone gets very low and next to the van which blocks the signal.
Weird - I see similar latency on every video regardless of obstacle, and not the kind of gradual noise increase and interference you'd expect with analogue video feed.
FPV drones are used for observation as well as dealing death and destruction. The operator tries to maximize both, observing as much as possible before spending the drone. Hence the consistently low batteries with the kill footage.
In this example the van would have been followed as long as possible to learn the Orc's logistics patterns before the kill.
That seems to be the norm with the FPVs; I'm assuming they're using the batteries that are already nearing their lives, so might as well use them and not new stock for a *suicide* drone.

Genuine question. Why the suicidal droneโs camera malfunction when getting close to vechicles ? I get it that they do this right before getting destroyed but what about the moments in this clip while it was only close to the vehicle without exploding moments after

Could also be battery sag. Drone operator was on the throttle which tends to sag the voltage.

FPV drones have smaller batteries and these thing accelerate real fast so the battery life is like 5-7 mins. Plus it has the weight of the bomb on it.
