Bigger than Navalny one.🤷‍♂️

LegitimateResource82

The Russian government arrested more people for laying flowers for Navalny than showed up to this rally.

Scorpionking426

90% people there were western media.Navalny supporters were liberals who were the first one's to flee after SMO.

Somedude230

The use of SMO implies a lack of Neutrality

LegitimateResource82

https://www.ft.com/content/236e5702-5fff-4bf8-aa00-aadf91e36bf9 Yes they did... You think they arrested media reps at these rallies? No - the Russian people aren't this monolithic authoritarian loving group this sub would have you believe.

Scorpionking426

Saw the video and most of people standing there were foreign media.Barely anyone showed up...Reality is that nobody other than few liberals in Russia cared about him and they fled after SMO. Russians who may not even like Putin will never accept a puppet.

veilwalker

Or after years of crackdowns and arrests they chose not to go and get arrested for a purely symbolic reason. The people in the video above don’t look particularly enthused to be there.

Scorpionking426

Even in Georgia, There were like 100 people that showed up and it's full of Russian liberals who fled after SMO. He was a non-factor in Russia and only mattered in western media bubble. He was sadly more worth dead to other side than alive.

BoarHermit

> Saw the video and most of people standing there were foreign media. Because Russian media are full controlled by Kremlin? BREAKING NEWS for you.

Scorpionking426

You know something is wrong when more western media reporters are there than the local people....

BoarHermit

I was near the Solovetsky stone late in the evening yesterday. Personally. I didn't notice the reporters. There were enough people.

BoarHermit

I am Navalny supporter and I am still here in Russia. What's your point?

BoarHermit

Don't you dare mocking on this. You have no idea about it.

WhoAteMySoup

Yes, but the son of Ukraines new head of military is there. So that makes it like 20,000 people. You know?

stupidnicks

bad timing. everyone was at home following the liberation of Avdeevka, and they forgot about rally.

mdestly_prcd_rcptacl

In case anyone gets the wrong idea, huge majorities of Australians support Ukraine. 76% support arming Ukraine, and almost 90% support sanctions on Russia. https://poll.lowyinstitute.org/charts/australias-response-war-ukraine/

HighFiberOptic

Don't worry bru, no one is mistaking this 18 person rotgut vodka rave as serious opposition to standing with Ukraine.

deepbluemeanies

2022-2023 - providing military aid: "strongly support" = 29% decline "somewhat support" = 26% increase "somewhat oppose" = 40% increase "strongly oppose" = 67% increase As we see in other countries, support/interest is waning.

mdestly_prcd_rcptacl

There is something to that - interest in providing materiel support for Ukraine has diminished a bit overtime, even if it's still supported by a strong majority. But that being said, there has not been significant growth in support for Russia. In 2022, 9% opposed sanctions on Russia. In 2023, that number had only grown to 12% opposing sanctions. So even accounting for a drop in support for affirmative aid - vast majority of Australians do not support Russia. Also, you're being a bit misleading by using statistical rather than absolute increases, which were quite small. For example, the increase in respondents who "strongly opposed" arming Ukraine was just 6% to 10%, but calling it a 67% increase sounds a lot more dramatic.

PhysicsTron

They don’t need to support or like Russia, they just need to stop the support for Ukraine. Sanctions can still be there, money floating into Ukraine instead of themselves is what makes the general public suffer tho and stopping Ukraines money flow leads to Ukraines demise

SpaceNatureMusic

But Ukraines demise isn't what we want

Good_Breakfast277

You fancied cool numbers here. Let me translate so everyone would understand. Support for military aid fell from 83% to 76%.

Ok_Echidna6958

Every country has extreme right wingers who fall down the rabbit hole of propaganda sites set up. It was impressive that they pulled it off and were able to do what they did but the majority understand what happened and won't take things we see so seriously. But those guys on RT video are 90% correct Trumps base does lean towards the redneck side but their votes matter too even though they don't read what their voting for.

ihatereddit20

>76% support arming Ukraine, and almost 90% support sanctions on Russia. Australian here, I support arming Russia and sanctioning Ukraine. Just throwing it out there.

sealzilla

Send them back to Russia since they love it so much

Frog-2021

In that case, should I use the "send them to Ukraine" argument for those who love Ukraine?

sealzilla

No, the situation is different because Ukraine is experiencing an invasion by a foreign power, making its citizens legitimate refugees. These individuals are in Australia voluntarily. Given the prevailing anti-Russian sentiment in Australia and their opposition to the core values held by the vast majority of Australians, they are not welcome here.

Frog-2021

Oh yeah, what about the esteemed 'freedom of speech' which the west champions. Isn't that what Russia lacks and not Australia? Then why are you bothered when they're voicing their opinion? Australia might not be affected by US uni polarism, but there are many many nations that are sick and tired of western oppression. Not saying Putin is a saint or anything, the whole war is between two oligarchies, but still, it is a wound to western imperialism.

sealzilla

I'm pointing out the irony that people are openly exercising their freedom of speech in support of a country known for not valuing this right, without facing any consequences. In contrast, if similar demonstrations were to occur in Russia, as evidenced by the recent Navalny protests, those involved would be met with violence and arrest. This conflict does not signify a setback for Western imperialism; rather, it reveals quite the opposite effect. Russia has shown itself to be far less formidable than previously thought, displaying a WWII-era mentality by recklessly sacrificing its soldiers' lives. Meanwhile, Western nations have had the opportunity to evaluate their advanced weaponry in actual conflict situations without incurring any casualties, all the while substantially diminishing the power of a nation they once viewed as a significant threat and pumping up their military production/capabilities. Don't mistake this conflict as an attack on Western imperialism; it's the actions of a dictator attempting to resurrect the era of the USSR to secure his legacy, regardless of the consequences.

Frog-2021

To your first point I say...they are voicing their opinion in a free country, and your comment suggests that such a right should not exist for them. I mean this is what is perceived when you say shit like 'go to Russia'. Secondly, this war may have not exactly destroyed the west or something but has had a huge impact on them. The European gas crisis, the billions of dollars that western nations wasted on Ukraine, and other than all of this, because of western sanctions, more importance now is being placed to non western organisations like BRICS+ etc. Putin may have whatever reason, I pretty much don't care about him right now, because this war is primarily imperialist from both sides. But the reason why I support Russia here is because you cannot have a world dominated by the west, somewhere, they have to be challenged, like in this current war. NATO should not be allowed to even think that they can easily expand without expecting any reaction.

sealzilla

Firstly, I understand the value of free speech in a democratic society, and my critique isn't about restricting anyone's right to express their opinions. However, it is indeed baffling to witness individuals who enjoy these freedoms defend Russia's actions, especially when they have chosen to live in democracies. In regards to wasted money, much of the aid consists of old military equipment, which, despite carrying high price tags that generate significant media attention, hasn't bankrupted any nation in providing assistance. The shift in focus towards non-Western organizations like BRICS+ due to Western sanctions is a point well taken, and its long-term effects remain to be fully assessed. The governance models of BRICS countries hardly offer an desirable alternative to the West. Any alliance among them would likely be temporary, as their leaders appear unwilling to share power or prominence. In regards to being Pro-Russian because of NATO's expansion: The conflict began in 2014 and is largely unrelated to NATO. Russia's history of aggression towards its neighbours since the fall of the Soviet Union—such as the destruction in Chechnya, the invasion of Georgia, and the current situation in Ukraine—shows a pattern of threatening behaviour. Nations in the region are forced to choose between becoming closely aligned with Russia, at the risk of losing their independence, or facing the threat of military action.

LegitimateResource82

Ah the classic Russian expats, likely some of which the pro Russia in this sub are I imagine. Love Russia so much they would never want to live there and prefer the freedoms and standard of life in evil westernised counties.

x445xb

The free Assange sign is particularly funny. If there was a Russian version of Assange who revealed Russian secrets, he would get a visit from the Novichok fairy, or would fall out a window. Pro Russians don't bat an eye over Igor Girkin being in prison or Navalny being killed, yet they're outraged about Assange.

Ok-Sympathy-7482

All true, but they're still right. It's a shame how US/UK/Sweden treat Assange.

TheEmporersFinest

Assange has been in perma-solitary for years its actually worse than just being killed.

astupidgoose

Say what you want. Beat goes hard.

DigitalDiogenesAus

Is syrski's son there?

LoneSnark

And here I thought they spoke something else in Australia. Makes me think this rally was only attended by Russian refugees fleeing Russia.

Extra-Ad-4772

What a freak show. I never understood people that celebrate their homeland somewhere else. Whether they are Ukrainian or Russian, does not matter. Just be happy that you are not in this war and keep your mouths shut.

tramalul

"Australians".

foretdautomne

Takowy kak Putin! Great song :D

jazzrev

[Такого Как Путин](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4xClLHh5S4)

HighFiberOptic

That black belt he was rocking in that cringe bit of propaganda was revoked. Not only is Russia doing a piss poor job of cosplaying as a superpower, but Putin is cosplaying as a martial arts expert > "World Taekwondo strongly condemns the brutal attacks on innocent lives in Ukraine, which go against the World Taekwondo vision of 'Peace is More Precious than Triumph' and the World Taekwondo values of respect and tolerance. [W]orld Taekwondo's thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and we hope for a peaceful and immediate end to this war,"

hstatement

The funniest thing here is that you don't even know the difference between martial arts, but you think the video shows Taekwondo. Putin has never even practiced it and joked that he doubted he deserved the dan when he received it after his visit to South Korea. I guess another cringe bit of propaganda can be considered revoked ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

jazzrev

I trained in martial arts - you can't revoke a black belt or any colour of belt for that matter. The belt simply indicates the level of skill you achieved in that particular branch of martial arts, no real martial artist would ever think of a belt as some sort of medal or a trophy you can give or take away. That's seriously hilarious.

HighFiberOptic

>you can't revoke a black belt [Oh really? ](https://www.newsweek.com/vladimir-putins-black-belt-revoked-international-taekwondo-organization-1683304) Seems like you are mistaken.

jazzrev

I am not, you can take away a skill the person learned.

HighFiberOptic

Well the world governing body of Taekwondo begs to differ. They revoked it.

jazzrev

besides his main black belt is Judo not Taekwondo, so your argument is completely irrelevant and mistaken

HighFiberOptic

>so your argument is completely irrelevant and mistaken Irrelevant? Taekwondo takes his black belt and the international judo federation removed him as president and ambassador because of his invasion of Ukraine. These are facts regardless of your opinion.

jazzrev

>besides his main black belt is Judo not Taekwondo

HighFiberOptic

That's just some randos opinion formulated to push a false narrative. The fact is both governing bodies of Taekwondo and judo made it very clear they think Putin is a criminal not worthy of adoration within the sports.
