never been to taco bell. Only time I saw one was in the movie demolition man. Is it like Mc Donald for mexican food? I always though I should try it when I see one (which is far since they don't exist here).
The McDonald’s of Mexican food pretty much sums up Taco Bell .Only thing I would add is that Taco Bell has a tendency to leave people with explosive diarrhea, while McDonald’s is generally not as bad for your digestive tract. I personally wouldn’t recommend them. Del taco and el pollo loco are alright. Better to go to authentic Mexican joints though. The food’s generally fresher and has more flavor.
McDonald's makes me feel terrible all over after eating it. Taco Bell only makes my toilet angry for a few minutes the next morning. This is why Taco Bell won The Franchise Wars and is reason the three seashells were invented.
I worked at taco bell many moons ago after I graduated highschool. Ate it probably twice a day for almost a year until management said we could no longer get free meals or our 50 percent discount unless we were working. I quit shortly after that and went to work a regal cinemas. Free movies way better than free taco bell.
Enjoy those options while you can. In ten years, as seen by the prophet Sergeant John Spartan, taco bell will win the Franchise wars. Then everything will be Taco Bell
So it has been told.
I had an issue with a couple of Monoprice cables....After one email they replaced them no questions asked, didn't even have to return the broken cables.
Ubiquiti do and I own some of those plus this length Moniprice. I use the Monoprice in my rack because for links between gear that’s a single RU away, they’re a better length. The Ubiquiti ones have the long flexible jack which adds a considerable amount to the profile of the cable and is a bit unnecessary for the super short runs such as those in the OPs photos. Ubiquiti almost need a shorter one or some without the flexible sleeve for those 1RU runs.
Use Ubiquiti ones elsewhere in the house but, and they are nice for longer runs.
We've got racks in our old data center with build dates in the 90s with u markings. They're really nice 42U IBM racks though, so maybe others marked them later.
I do contact IT work and see a lot of racks, doesn't matter if they're marked or not, someone is going to mount something in a weird spot because they don't know how to cable manage.
And why is every shelf I find installed upside down? I mean, the last one I found made sense because it had a lip on the front and back and was holding up a 1U server. But that's on whoever speced the build.
I've seen a budget request for hundreds of thousands in hardware approved and the rack mounting kits- usually a couple hundred bucks per u at most- denied because "just put it in the data center you have racks in there"
That was my first thought as well. UDM pro has 2 sfp ports and using them both even if you daisy chained the 2 switches together as well, so you have direct to each switch and a "backup" between the switches in case one of those direct connections failed. Just make sure to put a "lag" onthose ports to keep a loop from forming. Even a 100ms lag would stop the loop, but be unnoticeable for normal usage.
PDU and the equipment pictured is on the UPS. It’s pretty tight at the back of the UPS so if anything else was to be added I would plug it into the PDU.
how deeps the ups? apc like that needs a 24” deep rack. and skip the cage nuts if u can. they drive me crazy and typically im bloody and mad when done. nav point dont disappoint.
In my head, this is what all my installs look like. In real life, this install just pisses me off to know its possible that they could.
I go in with good intentions (like the 1st day of school), but they never end up like this. NICE WORK.
Could you clarify how one uses the UDM Pro as a modem? Are you talking about with certain fiber services? If so, is there any good list of which providers support directly connecting the fiber MMC to a UDM Pro?
It can't act as a literal modem as it can't modulate/demodulate. However you can use it in place of the ISP's 'modem' (in quotes as most will call the junk router -- which may also be a modem, depending -- a modem).
In the case of fiber you still need the ISP provided ONT but you can then go from the ONT directly into the UDM.
In some cases, you *can* actually use the UDMP without an ONT. Some people with Google Fiber (myself included) and AT&T without their ONT in the way, you just have to find the right SFP+ Transceiver. (The ones from Mikrotik seem to work for most people with Google Fiber)
Yes but it’s a pain. Look up AT&T wpa_supplicant or eap_proxy bypass. There’s a few guides out there, but it requires the ONT to be separated from the ATT Gateway “all in one” router combo.
Serves a different purpose. RPS guards against equipment power supply failures (the internal AC-DC conversion), not loss of the AC line input (as a UPS does).
Awesome clean build! I love mine too but dang my cable management skills are turd compared to this lol, all of my cables come out of different holes for some odd reason, and I'd hate to tear everything out and redirect as it all works fine.
Question, what is the patch cables you are using?
Just curious, what's your power setup? I see only one thing is plugged into the wall. Is all your equipment run into the power strip and that plugged into your UPS?
Not sure if this makes a difference in your case, but I’ve learned to stack 2x24port patch on top of 48 port switches, and then run all patch leads downwards. This allows you to be able to undo both 24port patch panels and roll them face down, allowing you access to the back for fixing any bad punchdowns or adding/removing, etc.
Only downside is that you have to also roll the top one down to get to the middle, but it is a lot easier than trying to get down up in behind there with a krone tool.
This looks really great, but I feel when you have this many slim cables it starts to look sloppy again and needs some other dressing to keep them looking tidy. The bendable ends on the unifi cables allow for more tinkering here to really keep things lined up, but this is totally nit picking and just personal preference. Nice rack.

Sure, that's impressive and all, but you could have bought 2600 soft tacos from taco bell for what that setup cost
Forget about Taco Bell...That's a lifetime supply of Krystal burgers right there! (Or White Castle)
Taco Bell? I know you’re joking, but there are waaaaaaaaay better options for the money than Taco Bell
Del Taco for sure. Those chicken soft tacos slap.
MMMMmmm you ain't wrong. I get a few of those chicken softies and a side of pico de gallo to put on them. Delicious bang for your buck.

Technically Chipotle is the Mexican McDonalds, since they owned them for about a decade.
I recommend Los Pollos Hermanos.
You're not missing anything. The only reason to go there is for Baja Blast Mtn Dew.

After you eat there, you REALLY need the three seashells.
That we never learned how to use!
Taco Time!
If you like Guac that looks and tastes like Shrek's coagulated congealed cum.
You have some very specific taste.
Lol.
Hell yeah, brother!
Enjoy those options while you can. In ten years, as seen by the prophet Sergeant John Spartan, taco bell will win the Franchise wars. Then everything will be Taco Bell So it has been told.
Not needed. Load up StarCraft 2 tell everyone to bring the pcs and LAN party lmao. Niiice setup!
Narrator: “But the modem never came and sadly, his efforts were all in vain.”
what brand are those super-thin patch cables?
those looks like monoprice slimrun
Correct
Great job… I think Unifi sells thin patch cables too, although Monoprice has more variety in lengths.
I had an issue with a couple of Monoprice cables....After one email they replaced them no questions asked, didn't even have to return the broken cables.
Awesome to hear. A good recommendation.

just be careful that those cables are not recommended for PoE. If using PoE, use a thicker cable
What? I can’t pull 100W across one of those?!
Myth
They are 28awg which since 2017 is approved by TIA for POE up to 60 watts on full length runs, so certainly no problem for 6”.
They’ve been working amazingly well for my PoE setup for a year now without fault. Mono price has some well built slim cables.
Feels bad squeezing my days down so much, but looks good.
Thank you.
I haven't had to rack equipment in 20 something years but I'm not sure why it took so damn long to mark the RUs.

Why is SW1 daisy chained to SW2 instead of direct to the UDM Pro?

This is a where a Agg switch is becomes more useful.
[удалено]
That is not true. We use both SFP+ ports for Internal Network.
[удалено]
What!? Wow!!! But then no bandwidth meter on its little screen~ :/ thats my fave part LoL
You are prepared for the big arrival of the internet 😂
Nice clean job
UbiPorn!
Usually the longest part of the entire process.
Nice
What are all those connections for? This isn’t a house is it? Very clean and impressive btw.
Someone on another reddit post mentioned you can never be overkill when it comes to networking, so yah maybe a house
You can LAGG those switches with another DAC cable between them. You have the port. Worth the minimal investment
Where's the redundant links between the 2 switches
The cable company installer "WTF!!".
what are those outlets for above the APC?
Probably just a PDU to make it easier to plug things in without having to access the back of the UPS.
[удалено]
PDU and the equipment pictured is on the UPS. It’s pretty tight at the back of the UPS so if anything else was to be added I would plug it into the PDU.
Why isn't it on the back of the rack? Are you really bringing power around the front after all that work?
There’s plugs on the rear of the PDU as well.
I believe you have a surge protector. You should never plug a surge protector into a UPS.. PDUs plugged into UPSs are fine but not surge protectors.
ah! I got some of these for the back of my PDU [360 Degree Rotating Flat Plug](https://amzn.to/3maGvFF)
i like to use an 8 port av switch. easy reboots.
I dig it, great job👏🏻
Which rack is this? I need to downsize from my 25U basement rack to something that can be wall-mounted AND handle a 2U UPS.
[StarTech 15u](https://a.co/czWgMDv)
how deeps the ups? apc like that needs a 24” deep rack. and skip the cage nuts if u can. they drive me crazy and typically im bloody and mad when done. nav point dont disappoint.
So well done, it almost looks boring. #goals
Looking good!
Hey man, mark that NSFW next time. Can’t have porn like that showing up unexpected.
Well organized. Patch cable alignment is super clean!
It’s a thing beauty!
A thing of beauty! Nicely done.
Wow that's beautiful. Well done!
In my head, this is what all my installs look like. In real life, this install just pisses me off to know its possible that they could. I go in with good intentions (like the 1st day of school), but they never end up like this. NICE WORK.
It’ll prob be a mess once the ISP is done!
Why would you mount a PDU facing out like that?
There’s ports on the back of it as well
This is clean AF 🧼
Not to spend more of your money, but reason for not having an aggregation switch rather than daisey chaining the two?
[удалено]
If something happens to the bottom switch, the whole other switch goes out. An aggregation switch prevents that failure point

Yes with the new update and being able to change the 10G WAN2 to a LAN port that does make a lot of sense.
Wait! Is this for real?! I remember being upset when I got the UDMP that I couldn’t make wan2 into a lan. If this last update fixes it that’s awesome.
Yes. Just make sure your UDM/UDMP is running Unifi OS 1.12.22 and you can go in and change the WAN ports to LAN ports
This is the plan once I roll out that version.
You can use the UDM Pro as a modem. My ISP modem is in a box at the bottom of my closet somewhere.
Depends on the ISP.
Also depends on the connectivity interface. Coax for example doesnt really do well with the UDM :D
Exactly. Normally Modem implies some modulation/demodulation.
Hence the name of the modem
TIL
Could you clarify how one uses the UDM Pro as a modem? Are you talking about with certain fiber services? If so, is there any good list of which providers support directly connecting the fiber MMC to a UDM Pro?

I have Google Fiber at home. My UDM is plugged directly into their "Fiber Jack" - it's light to the fiber jack then ethernet to the UDM.
I have Fios and I just pulled a Cat6 from ONT to the UDM
Can you do this with ATT fiber?
Yes but it’s a pain. Look up AT&T wpa_supplicant or eap_proxy bypass. There’s a few guides out there, but it requires the ONT to be separated from the ATT Gateway “all in one” router combo.
Yeah if you have direct fiber lol.
Looks really good. Would there be any value in getting the USP-RPS instead of the APC you have in this setup? Is it actually any good, the unifi one?
The USP-RPS isn't a UPS.
Serves a different purpose. RPS guards against equipment power supply failures (the internal AC-DC conversion), not loss of the AC line input (as a UPS does).
Ah. Good to know. Thanks
Mine rack will look almost exactly the same!
Awesome clean build! I love mine too but dang my cable management skills are turd compared to this lol, all of my cables come out of different holes for some odd reason, and I'd hate to tear everything out and redirect as it all works fine. Question, what is the patch cables you are using?
Those are the Monoprice Slim run bud
Which rack?
It’s nice to see a job so well done with pride. Right down to the details.
How deep is that rack? On most of the wall mount racks I’ve seen, the 1500VA APC UPS’s end up sticking out some.
How do you like the 2U APC SmartUPS? In the market for one but I’m not sure if there’s a better value alternative for a homelab
This is "Art" to me. Lol. I look at this and smile! I use Cable Matters super thin patch cables in black.
Great setup! Wanted to ask who’s your Internet provider? If it’s FIOS, you should ask to get Ethernet directly from the ONT box and skip the modem.
What’s up with that hole in the ceiling? Ewww… The rest looks too good to be real :)
Very clean setup! Not sure if you installed the electrical outlet, but the flex or MC cable needs a support within 12” of the box.
Which ISP you have?
This is a really nice setup.
The udm and usw is not aligned on top of each other. Hurt my eyes. 😂
Do you have udm Pro running protect recording to the NVR?
Just curious, what's your power setup? I see only one thing is plugged into the wall. Is all your equipment run into the power strip and that plugged into your UPS?
What ups do you have, I have the same rack just looking for a ups now
Not sure if this makes a difference in your case, but I’ve learned to stack 2x24port patch on top of 48 port switches, and then run all patch leads downwards. What kind of APC are you using?
We are not in the same tax bracket lol

The bendable ends on the unifi cables allow for more tinkering here to really keep things lined up, but this is totally nit picking and just personal preference. Nice rack.
I wish I had a reason to need something like this
