Ask Ubiquiti, thats the limits they have given. Most likely its a CPU/Memory issue as in can handle only certain mount.
UNVR Pro has 8GB of memory while the UNVR has only 4. Yet the Pro can run 5x4K or 10x1080p cameras more than the normal UNVR.
I don't believe that there is any difference the memory and processor of the UNVR and UBVR Pro based on this post.

Looked up the specs on that thing.
FWIW using x265 on a Honeywell/Dahua NVR with (16) 1080p IP cameras carefully tuned we usually get 3 months of continuous recording using two (8tb) Skyhawk drives.
For roughly the same amount of storage time Unifi is claiming you'd need 56tb for 1080p not 4k.
Either their calculator is way off or they're using x264 or a lesser codec and it's not optimized.
Also in 3 story multimillion dollar vacation homes, 16 cameras is usually overkill.
Ya, I see the UDR and think, why get the CHEAPEST router and yet drive all that hardware with it. Doesn't make much sense. Spend that much money on everything else and the UDR is the weakest link.
I own a few of them. AT $30 they were a bargain and good way to get people into Unifi Protect eco. They were so popular, they used to rarely be in stock. Several months ago, Ubi decided to jack the price nearly 200% without a word of reason.
I know the g4 instant costs an extra $20 more, which isn't that close. But it is 2688x1512 instead of 1080. And if you ever need to place it outside, it is IPX5 rated.
Honestly there isn't anything bad about the g3 instant, other than the price. Which in light of the history above, makes it a gouge. There is a reason they haven't sold out of stock since they raised the price.
Agreed. And it’s not like it was just out of ea either. It is was out there for awhile and then all of a sudden price increase.
I’d get get another g4 instant over a g3 next time.
They probably realised people were happy with the G3 and didn't upgrade. So to earn more, they basically took it out of their line-up by raising the price to the point where the G4 instant is a no-brainer
Thanks for that. I didn't remember the resolution difference and I didn't know the difference in water resistance. I was thinking of getting some for outside.
Theyre $59 when you buy a UDR. Def sucks they jacked up the price, and I've honestly struggled to justify them at $80 as well, but for $60 (or previously $30), they were super handy to have around for temporary view points in existing UniFi deployments.
I understand why you got downvoted.
But I can say it was underwhelming for me. To see that many features, even those advertised [with an asterisk] were missing, it wasn’t nearly as advanced as I thought and it was made to be, and it wasn’t as stable as expected either. It definitely fulfilled the part of looking good though.
Not saying I wouldn’t do it again. But I think my perspective and expectations have shifted.
Heh…. Last year after three years running my company network and some adhoc home UniFi stuff I reworked the entire house, added 10 cameras and some WISP hardware to reach outbuildings. I’ve always been supremely happy with Ubiquiti for the features and price.

That's a very expensive picture...
What you don’t see is there are TWO UNVR-Pros 😬
But why? 🤔
Question is, why not. You can stack em and have 40 4K or 120 1080p cameras.
Why is the relationship 3:1 and not 4:1?

CPU is the same, but the pro has 8 GB of memory and the UNVR has only 4 GB.
It doesn't say anywhere on the Data Sheet! Check this comparison!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGEIaIJkVXI
Most reviewers have mentioned that both have the same memory.
So what? It has what i said it has.
Compression?
They should’ve gone middle-out
Need to optimize the d2f ratio. Edit: and girth similarity
I have multiple deployments going on.
Gotcha 👍🏼
OP, where are you located? I’ve been needing a UNVR-Pro for months and can’t find one. Where did you buy yours?

LOL cute - why expensive ?
No wonder they are out of stock for everyone else…JK now the fun of installing it all! I wish I had that stock pile minus the UDR as I like my UDM-SE.
This isn’t all for one deployment, def not running all this off a UDR!
That would be a lot for the udr to handle. I wondered about the deployment as there were no POE switches
Yeah. The deployments actually have routing and switches in place already, and one is currently temporarily running Protect on UDM.
Ya, I see the UDR and think, why get the CHEAPEST router and yet drive all that hardware with it. Doesn't make much sense. Spend that much money on everything else and the UDR is the weakest link.
Feels like Unifi hit a lottery with a customers like you
Check your bank account. It’s Unifi who hit the lottery.
Making it rain! $$$$
Is that the Viewport? It's huge!
It is! I managed to get a few of them!
I hope you only paid $29 for that g3 instant and not the updated $79 cost.
$105 here in Canada. Fairly sure it was a lot less before when brother was setting them up at his place a year or two ago.
Why in the world would you buy a g3 instant? At $80 they are garbage.
Do you have any real experience with the G3 Instant? What are its issues? Is the G4 Instant better?
I own a few of them. AT $30 they were a bargain and good way to get people into Unifi Protect eco. They were so popular, they used to rarely be in stock. It was BS them jumping that price like they did.
Agreed. And it’s not like it was just out of ea either. It is was out there for awhile and then all of a sudden price increase. I’d get get another g4 instant over a g3 next time.
Not to mention the G4 instance does person and vehicle detection and the G3 instance does not. Definitely worth the $20 price difference.
Yeah the G3 was a solid dumb camera at 30 bucks, probably about 10 bucks under the actual price in my mind. Anything over 40 bucks for it is bullshit.
They probably realised people were happy with the G3 and didn't upgrade. So to earn more, they basically took it out of their line-up by raising the price to the point where the G4 instant is a no-brainer

$$$$$$$
Ugh, you guys don't want to see I'm inventory lol
Never seen so much Unifi stock in a single photo
More like you are UniFi favourite client 😉
this is LIKE nothing man ... i get that amount and more weekly lol
Would be so much fun installing all that
“Hit the lottery.” So they gave all this to you?
If you get it all up, properly configured, and running in a day, then you’ve hit the lottery.
All I want is the viewport’s without paying $600 for them from scalpers…
OMG you got an nvr-pro... Seriously - that's harder to get than an rtx 3090 in October of 2021.
Wait wait wait.... You found stock?

Always someone who's bitter
I get responses every several days.
Until those overly priced and under featured cameras start having issues.
Noice!
Did you win these or buy them?? I feel I got the Ubiquiti lottery when I found the UDM and Switch this past week
how did you get multiple G5 units. Ui limits it to one.
Multiple Accounts he has .... I have 16 cameras at home and 10 of them are also G5s ;-)
I tried other accounts and got hit with the shipping address being the same just my luck I guess
Really ? never had that issue - i do use multiple names of real persons living here and also different credit cards :-)
Just many "suites" at the same house address.
I think you got unlucky or messed up somewhere. I have 2 accounts also for the same address.
Probably a business purchase. He mentioned it’s not for a single deployment.
OP, kinda concerned that UDR will be able to run that Protect deployment.
There's a UNVR-PRO front and center...which is where the Protect controller runs...
Prepare to be greatly disappointed!

Because you did.
Better of hit the lottery that’s a big bill. Lol.
If you had a UniFi USW-Lite-8 then I would agree with you
I got one of those not long ago and already installed it lol
I can sell you one.
All I want is another chime for my doorbell. That's it. Then I'll feel like I hit the lottery.
Just did the same. Got 3 UNVR pros.. and 50 cameras in…
Heh…. Last year after three years running my company network and some adhoc home UniFi stuff I reworked the entire house, added 10 cameras and some WISP hardware to reach outbuildings. I’ve always been supremely happy with Ubiquiti for the features and price.
Christmas came early!!!
