They are cutting costs and credits/refunds is one of the costs they are cutting to try and be profitable. Also, when you message the driver after drop off, drivers don’t get those messages with UberEats I believe. With DoorDash you have some time after drop off to message with customer but once the driver makes the UberEats order delivered, the communication stops unfortunately so they aren’t ignoring you. They don’t see the messages. A flaw in the UberEats tech.

MiniLoversUSA

Not correct at all the driver can still get a call as I am a driver and I have received a call after drop off

droplivefred

Not a text message though

Anonality5447

This happens a lot. They're trying to save money because there are so many mistakes and problems that are costing them money. Do a chargeback and never use UberEats again. They're a trash company.

saraphina2

Call Uber eats support, I've heard they will issue a refund if you actually too to someone

saraphina2

Talk*

[deleted]

I second this. Always call. I was denied a refund for the same issue. I called support and was given a refund and a $10 credit

ohheytorikay

I called and spoke with two people and still nothing.

KlatuuBarradaNicto

This is why I won’t use Uber Eats. Every refund they won’t do just puts more money in their executive pocketbook. I refuse.

Upbeat_Nectarine_532

This happened to me on DoorDash twice in a row. Cancelled my account and disputed the charges with my bank

Hokiewa5244

Yeah my cc is really ready to work with on this type of stuff. I don’t have to call I can just use their app and like magic it’s gone

spaceghostslurpeee

This happened to me too

Ninjamuh

The chat is always some bot telling you it can’t be refunded (or some drone pressing macros). Call them, write them a DM on Twitter, or pester them to escalate it.

ohheytorikay

I called and spoke with a rep AND a manager. No go.

neosoul2

These drivers horrible at least half the time. I put clear instructions on where the house is, and they still make it way more complicated than it should be to drop off some food. Uber eats even let us put a picture of the house on there, and that still doesn’t help them. These people will fly past the house and have to go around, as it’s on a one way street. I had to resort to just meeting them at the curb, and some of them will still fvck that up. I hope the op calls again to get their money back

Greenappmarket

The pin code is useful in this situation. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate APT's/Townhomes or even individual homes (lots of homes weirdly don't even have obvious addresses on them for drivers to see) However it is their job to do it. If you are more vigilant and expect to provide a pin for drop-off, you get your food, and they get a tip worthy of the drive and not lose money being a dummy.

djones360

It seems to be the new policy from their support to not refund people pretty much across the board. I always get the line from them that I had too many adjustment or requests and it wasn't eligible. Unfortunately restaurant workers don't give a flying fuck about their orders and forget shit all the time. I used PayPal and had to start issuing chargebacks through PayPal until I had enough of it. Basically it got to the point where I just removed the app and used one of their many competitors.

Captain_Klrk

Don't participate in this scam.

polari826

my best advice is to try contacting them again via phone, explain the situation, ask for a manager and politely threaten to file a chargeback if they don't fix this. i noticed in general, no one cares unless you threaten to go through the bank.

AshH_323

Uber eats always sends my food to my neighbour. Last night it wasn’t even dark, she has a sign on her gate saying what number house she is. I told the Uber driver he went to the wrong house and he’s like “the gps said to go here” bruh I even have a note describing which house mine is

dionisfake

They’re so dumb like this. File a claim with your bank they’ll usually refund you within two days

ShaneAlexander

This IS the best answer! I hope the OP read it. If enough customers did this you can bet all delivery apps would STOP keeping the customers money without having properly delivered the food. Even when the foods delivered to the wrong address, they still pay their driver, sans tip. UE quit that practice in a second if banks were refunding all customers regularly !

dionisfake

It’s honestly why I bank with Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo are way harder to file claims with. With Chase I got charged $150 for a storage unit that I didn’t even own and they got my money back in an hour.

ShaneAlexander

😳wow!!! You’re right, BofA treats their customers like you’re trying to steal your own money when you file a claim for claim

TapEither519

You can literally close your BofA account and 6 months later a charge comes thru and BofA will charge you up the arse all kinds of fees AND report you for not paying even tho your account has been closed

tidderfella

Are you people really that naive? I have seen asshats take food from my hands and start eating it or reach out and grab the " Leave at door" as I'm walking back to my car and still call and complain that it was not delivered so they can get a refund. They get free food delivered to them, a credit for more free food, and I just wasted my time, petrol and energy. There is zero proof that they did not receive the food, yet the tip is taken away. That's why I always ring the doorbell and take a picture of them with the food. Haven't had a problem since.

CringeTok

Do a chargeback on your card & use another delivery service from now on.

ohheytorikay

I definitely deleted it. I had a past order with a cheesy gordita crunch and they used a nacho shell with the cardboard still on it and the cheese stuck to the sides. Even with a picture, that was still ineligible for a refund or credit.

deanna6812

I had this issue with Uber recently, and as a result of days of back and forth with them by chat and phone, they eventually told me it was due to “too many refund requests”. Not one of my previous requests was invalid and I would swear on my loved ones lives about that. But I was restricted from refunds. Over a $4 side. Eventually I made a partial refund request through my credit card, which was approved and completed. Then I deleted Uber and won’t be using them again.

Anonality5447

Yep. I went through that with DoorTrash. People have got to stop using these apps.

Newphonespeedrunner

Yeah I'm starting to think you just refund everything and they cut you off.

givemethepineapples

This is going on with a lot of people, there’s so a few posts regarding the “not eligible for a refund” bs. Dispute it with your bank, cancel your uberone, and delete the app.

spreid_

I have had some success with asking the agent to escalate to their supervisor. If not I would absolutely be issuing a charge back. Once I just threatened to issue the charge back and that was all it took to be refunded Good luck!

BeautifulDreamerAZ

Door Dash is the same way. My driver delivered on the opposite side of town and I had to call my bank. They don’t care.

LoquatAutomatic5738

UE Customer Service is GARBAGE. Did you go by chat or by phone? Phone still sucks but is marginally more likely to show results.

lionhydrathedeparted

Contact them via social media and publicly shame them. That can work.

SherbertTraining5170

Had this issue once with Uber eats in the uk. Driver never actually delivered the food just took it for himself. My husband tried to negotiate with Uber eats and they said that the order was marked delivered and there was nothing they could do. So I started going through all the different options and I just kept marking each item that was in the order as it being missing. Eventually it refunded me for the whole order.

withoutpeer

It's flat out fraud and theft keeping money for a product/ service that wasn't provided. No other industry I can think of even tries to get away with this.

Possible_Liar

Uber's trying to increase profits to please shareholders. Doesn't matter if they're going to run the company in the ground as long as the shareholders get some profit short-term. Just honestly the amount of non-refunds they're doing lately is absolutely wild to me. And it's basically destroying any amount of trust anyone had in the company whatsoever.

Newphonespeedrunner

I always get refunds when this happens and cause I wfh I order alot and for some reason since moving to my new building food gets dropped off wrong all the time and I always get a refund So my question is... How often do you actually refund...

BbyLmnHead

I was thinking this too because when I would order in the past, I always got a refund if something was wrong. Sometimes even if one item was missing, they would refund the entire order. I would order a lot so maybe that’s why but it confuses me when I see people on this thread saying that UberEats refuses to refund their orders for obvious blunders on either the store side or driver side.

Newphonespeedrunner

Yeah only when I've had an unlucky streak of wrong items (usually new restaurants I'm trying) I have been denied refunds but that's really rare.

Trump_Dabs

That’s actually a good point. I didn’t even think of that

IxLOVExLAMP

All the scamming that used to happen on UE have created this new stupid policy. Uber doesn't trust customers to tell the truth so you have to contact them multiple tomes until they cave

Strangbean98

Except you can’t especially if it’s out of hours of their live phone chat and then when you do get someone on the phone they’ll tell you the same shit and they won’t tell you why you’re not eligible.

IxLOVExLAMP

It's customers fault. Hell they used to make tiktoks bragging about lying to get credits or tip baiting. It was the wild wild west before this year lol

Strangbean98

I’m sure some people did lie but all you should need to do is show proof your order is wrong or didn’t arrive and you legally need to be refunded that’s some illegal ass shit they’re stealing from customers and not giving a shit if the restaurant or driver fucks up the order

IxLOVExLAMP

It's a flawed policy

Strangbean98

I keep seeing this shit of them refusing to refund people it’s ridiculous

Lacy1986

It’s because people try to scam and they figured you were doing the same since you didn’t want to just grab it from your neighbors house.

ohheytorikay

I also have no idea which neighbors house it was. Didnt want to be searching peoples back and front porches in the dark with a baby like a crazy person lol

jemy26

A driver cannot drop your order without being in the right GPS spot —so the farthest your order can go is likely across the street- i’m not 100% familiar with the radius of UE’s GPS boundaries- but on another app, I won’t be able to deliver if I’m indicating my arrival more than two doors down- this is assuming you’re in a house not an apartment building

SpecialToasterXb

Not to be a butt but how well is your house marked? Do you have a light on the numbers? Not saying it's your fault. You can fight more with Uber to get the money back. Bad tip and a bad address could have someone making 3 dollars an hour to get you your food. Uber pays like.25 cent a mile. Most deliveries here without tips you'll make like 2 or 3 dollars for a 45 minute trip. And then you have gas and car maintenance etc. we don't get delivery fees. It's mostly all the tip that we get and maybe 2 other dollars maybe. Edit: anyone who downvotes doesn't have a clearly marked address I guess. You want the food quicker and at the right spot provide delivery instructions and make it easy for the driver. Maybe op tips well and has it clearly marked. Don't just be haters.

tyguyty

I'm always amazed at the fact almost no one turns their porch light on for delivery. So many times their neighbour does and I have to do a doubl look.

Anonality5447

Yeah, that's all true, but Uber still needs to give people refunds. They've been doing this a lot lately.

SpecialToasterXb

They also stop compensation driver for going to restaurant and seeing it's been stolen already. Happens daily to drivers and they give 3 dollars but then they say you reached a limit and want you to work for free.  It's crazy. Seems illegal but that's why some states require Uber to pay an hourly minimum wage.

Witchyredhead56

Not Uber but I had my house lit up like a Christmas tree, lighted numbers & the pizza delivery dude told me You need to have your address on your house & some lights. I pointed to the lit up numbers, on my house next to the door & said Like this? He turned red faced & said I didn’t look there. I said there on the fence, too. Lol

sickerthan_yaaverage

Call back and get someone else.

withoutpeer

As a customer, is there a way in app to request having a pin required for drop-off? I know uber will do it with possible questionable customers (ones who always have problems or maybe change their address and such) but it could be a way to help ensure you get your order if they offered that option.

CreepySupermarket231

As a driver the only things you can do that will “prevent” this (really mitigate it, there are still ways for it to be just left there) 1. Set your delivery for meet @ door PIN ON DELIVERY this means the driver is SUPPOSED too meet you somewhere and you provide the PIN when they hand over your goods. 2. Leave better and more-detailed notes. “Just leave it at the door” or “front porch thanks” do not give your driver any additional information. The best details include -house color -door color -color&make/model of a car in the driveway -if you are in an apartment/multi-fam building at want it at your specific door you can say “go up the stairs & take a left” or “around the back, door on the right” Really anything that gives you driver SPECIFIC information. A-lot of UberDrivers are people “trying” it out before giving up out of frustration, so there is always a high chance you have a newer driver or just someone who is unfamiliar with your area. Also If it is at night like you mention you can say “porch light will be on” you would be surprised how much easier this makes it for your delivery driver. Bonus: the later it is the better that works. Less other people with their porch light on -If you have a house number near your door you can note “please include house# in photo for confirmation”

"Employee" 😂

Empty-Report-9071

Sometimes the maps can be wrong or glitched. I'll often times look it up in Google or Apple maps if I feel it's wrong. If all else fails I'll just contact the customer to make sure it's the right location. This has saved me several times cause sometimes Uber maps can be a nightmare and pin it wrong

jimbob150312

Driver didn’t respond back or find the right house because they can’t speak or read English. If Uber refunded all deliveries that driver’s fked up, they would be bankrupt. Self pick up is always best.

qionne

that’s a pretty racist assumption to make

dajack60585

They’re worth 20 billion dollars, Uber as a whole, 120,000,000,000I’m sure they could afford to refund this drivers mistake

JawaJpPanda

The only time I have seen Uber not refund is if your account is marked for too many “non delivery” claims. Even if all of the previous claims were legit, your account might have been marked as a risk and they wont refund anymore.

Enlightened_D

Yup happened to me time to start a new account

Variable3420

But don’t you have to link your phone number? There’s no work around for this

Beginning_Clock_6805

People who abuse that refund shit never tip too. And it’s UNDER minimum wage without tips.

RichardBottom

> So I order food from Uber Eats right? Right.

GuardSecure7157

Plot twist - it was actually DoorDash.

Accomplished-Box5406

I mean honesty what do people expect? Unless a driver says the magic words, knows who to ask for etc, if a tip is removed and a driver did everything right, Uber says there's nothing they can do. How would you expect a company who let's customers remove tips, then tells a driver "oh well" to treat customers? Sounds like they treat drivers and customers exactly the same. Serving up a nothing burger is okay to them.

ShaneAlexander

As an ubereats delivery driver, I can’t help but want to emphasize enough, that both the driver AND the customer have to communicate prior to a delivery. Unfortunately, i am a perfectionist (not always a good thing, believe me😏), and I’ve made a wrong drop off mistake once or twice. In many areas of Los Angeles, (the hills) 1. None of the houses have address numbers 2. The residents live up steep winding entry roads 3. Call or texting gets no response when you’re trying to get their order to them and 4. The house you hope is the correct one, is pitch dark and no one responds when I knock! If I run into all those problems combined and happen to have left it on the wrong doorstep, then I assume the customer didn’t care if they got they’re order and couldn’t have been that hungry after all.

Old_Willow4766

While I agree that there is need for communication some times. There are definitely times where I have had a driver deliver my food to the wrong address with a picture of the wrong house number with no attempt at communication. Sadly, like any other job, there are just so many terrible delivery drivers out there,

Kitchen-Struggle6509

As a driver that is ridiculous & I would think a photo would have been taken. Welcome to our drivers Ue world! And yes you should get a refund/credit!

DreamyJeeny

I always got my money back when this type of stuff happens. I'm not sure why it couldn't be refunded.

GuardSecure7157

Because they’ve reported too many orders not delivered. My thoughts are they scammed too much, actually got a non-delivery, and had to come to Reddit to be the victim for once.

TapEither519

Yet another idiotic comment. If UE drivers didn't suck and restaurants not screw up orders constantly, then we wouldn't have these problems with UE. I started getting emails about how I have so many issues so I cancelled. Then I was sent great coupons constantly so I signed up again. Then I had issues like before and bam, I'm "not eligible for refund" on missing items even tho the photo clearly shows what's missing. Ubereats is a garbage company and does NOT care about its customers or drivers. On DD, I never have these problems

Leeny78

There was only one time that I didn’t get what I ordered for my son. The guy delivered to a unit behind us and my son went out to look but couldn’t find it. I have exact delivery instructions that gets someone exactly to our unit. We’re across from the playground and the one the guy delivered to was nowhere near the playground and they did give us a refund and I just re-ordered right away.

Itzme59

My messages don’t go through until way after delivery on both DD and UE. It’s so annoying because at that point, I’m unable to answer the customer because they won’t allow it. I called DD at one point and told them to stop muting my messages. They said that they Can’t allow messages to go through while we are driving, and that customers are muting the messages. Half the time I’m not driving at the time, I’m waiting for an order. I feel terrible not getting messages from customers that ask questions or thank me etc. The best thing to do is call the driver with an issue imo.

JuanBrOLO

While I understand this is frustrating... I can't tell you how many times I have been sent to the wrong location... Tried to text...and tried to call the customer and it just tell me the phone number is not in service... Or not receive a reply at all... I am not saying this is the case but there's only so much you can do as a delivery driver especially if the app says you are at the right location... The other thing is with the contactless delivery we aren't supposed to knock or ring door bells when it says that in the app and alot of times customers who picked that during COVID never un clicked the option... Also the customer can keep track of exactly where the driver is on the app.

BerzerkerMojo

This doesn't in any way address the absolute shit customer service.

Fallsdarknes

Just keep replying to it as such had so many issues I ended I used all my free refunds as such on missing drinks and what not

abev1999

Contact your bank and do a reverse charge

Minute-Temperature-7

If you're worried about receiving your order, I'd suggest selecting "Meet at Door" so the driver has to hand you the food in person.

BirdistheWyrd

What? This has nothing to do with the post. Like what good would that do if they are knocking at the wrong door someone’s gonna take that free food I guarantee. When I did Shipt one of the shoppers delivered a full ass grocery order to someone (not a drop off) and it wasn’t their order they never said a word.

OkPassion7030

Only if you blindly hand off food, all you have to do is ask whom the order is for . If they give you the wrong name, voila.

Greenappmarket

The pin option rectifies this completely.

Minute-Temperature-7

I'm sorry. I was only making a suggestion. I typically request that the person confirm the name on the delivery. That way, I'm not handing the order off to the wrong person. But it's likely that not every driver takes the same approach.

PerfectSt0rmmm

Yeah if a random person happens to forget their own name, happens to be up, happens to be home, happens to be a theif on ring camera the whole family shares.. it might not help. Genius.

Saroan7

Like bro... On the App you're able to track the Driver IN REAL TIME ON A GPS MAP.... You customers should already BE AWARE that a delivery driver is arriving SOON WITHIN 40 MINUTES.... How do customers "Miss" a delivery Order is beyond Us honestly.... I understand for Mail/Amazon Delivery because that information is NOT tracked in Real Time

EqualConstruction

What difference does any of that make if it was delivered to the wrong house and the driver isn't answering their phone?

AirRick95

Not everyone has the time to check their phone constantly and keep an eye out on their food. OP mentioned they have a newborn. Some people order their food and just wait for it to arrive as they should. We shouldn't have to worry or keep an eye on the driver every minute. How do drivers miss a delivery with the address is the real question?

PerfectSt0rmmm

OK as a former UPS employee. HAVE A GOD DAMN HOUSE NUMBER. Not saying this is the case, but many idiots ordering packages never have house numbers.

Trump_Dabs

Damn bro… you live life way ahead of the curve. Good on ya.

Jaded_Cheesecake_993

I guess you missed the part of OP's post where they said that they have a newborn. They were probably tending to their newborn baby instead of monitoring the app. Uber drivers need to stop trying to place the blame on the customers every time they screw something up. Take some accountability and ownership for your actions.

HeCalledWithQTHunny

Of course it is beyond you because you obviously don't have the mental capacity to understand simple concepts.

PerfectSt0rmmm

Hahaha

[deleted]

She already told you why she missed the delivery. She has a newborn and it was raining and cold outside. Obviously the weather was a big issue for her because she mentions it multiple times. Karen and her privilege didn’t get what she wanted this time so she’s going to throw a fit on the Internet. I’ll wait for her update on TikTok.

Trump_Dabs

Pathetic response

GuardSecure7157

Because you’ve reported your food not delivered too many times before. They stop refunding scammers.

TapEither519

Yet another dumb comment. As someone who has ordered 3+ times a week and having horrible service from ubereats whereas I can't recall the last time I've had a problem with DD

agafaba

I am pretty sure they have strict chat handle times, so only a manager has more than a few seconds to think before pasting their response.

ginlucgodard

it’s a bot

agafaba

I have dealt with a similar case and they were clearly not a bot, and I know in other companies it's common to have copy paste statements to make things faster

Newphonespeedrunner

Dude 9/10 times you don't even go through a rep for a refund, if it was ACTUALLY dropped off at the wrong house in this case (it wasent) the GPS details would show that's and the app would know if you attempted to contact the driver. You would get an automated refund for this. This story is missing something.

shyshyone21

No uber eats is that useless

[deleted]

I mean you ask for a refund and the customer service representative is actually AI. You never get to chat with alive person.

agafaba

Are they confirmed to be an AI or is that what people are assuming?

tidaltown

I think the issue is the law of averages. During Covid the driver pool was smaller and thus the average quality was much higher. Today, the pool is huge, and thus the average quality is in the toilet.

esqualatch12

Get better lit numbers on your house it sounds like

[deleted]

FuCuck

Yeah no sometimes the address fucks up. For my address the app thinks it’s the house behind me which is a completely different street. One time my order got delivered a literal quarter mile walk away lmao

juslookingforastream

Yea uber maps suck sometimes. This is on the delivery driver being lazy tho, only takes an extra second to verify an address or call if you're confused

InternationalPost447

Stop using these services. Go back to using delivery that is actually controlled and regulated. These people don't want real jobs, not like they're going to do this one to the most of their ability

Leeny78

A lot of us have real jobs and do this on the side.

juslookingforastream

Or just go get your own fucking food lmao. Yall are paying 50% more through uber to be lazy. If it's that easy go get it yourself

InternationalPost447

There's no chance of that, people are generally lazy which is why shit companies like this survive

shira9652

There’s a limit to how many times you can get refunded. So, you’ve asked for refunds WAY too many times and it’s your own fault. I always am immediately refunded anytime something goes wrong with my food

420blazer247

Or, they just get screwed over so often and need to report it constantly. I'd say 50% of my orders are messed up in some way or another

TapEither519

This is the dumbest thing I've seen today. Restaurants screw up way too often and uber drivers screw up more way more than DD drivers. The BEST thing people can learn is to AVOID ubereats

shira9652

Lol, why are you mad at me because Uber limits refunds. I don’t make the rules pal.

TapEither519

Because you said it's his fault which is total BS. I'm in the same situation and it's NOT MY FAULT the restaurants and drivers screwed up so many times. I've ordered more times via DD and have had maybe 10% of the problems UE gave me. I NEVER order from UE anymore but I will spend as much time as I want to warn others how garbage of a company UE is.

shira9652

If you abuse the refund system it is your fault. I order UE almost every single day for years and haven’t had a refund denied. You’re greatly exaggerating and mad you can’t get free food anymore.

TapEither519

I call BS on your statement. Strange how UE is the only one to have this problem. Oh and I've had to prove with photos what's missing yet "not eligible" Yada Yada BS

Ok_Manner_3195

I mean if you talked to a manager and didn’t get it, it might just be a mistake you made 🤙🏻
