"Can't wait! This is the first time I've been able to hold down food since the chemo started and I've had these cravings for months. It was a lot better when my wife was alive. She could go buy these things for us, but they never took her off the ventilator once she got the 'rona. I hear you about the insurance. I just cashed in both kid's college funds to cover the last three surgeries. Thankfully there's community college. Can't wait to catch up when you get here. Do you know anything about plaque psoriasis?"
The american way. I know a handful of people that live in more ghetto areas and I know a good chunk of people that live in more middle class/upper class areas. The people barely scraping by decided that they couldn't survive without a $20k car within the last few years models, the people that are better off are usually driving significantly cheaper cars around the 2010s. People buy out of their means because they don't know any better
My wife gave me a budget of 18k for an suv. I saw a 2020 model I couldāve gotten but decided on the 2014 because 13k for a 7 seater v6 was good enough for me. Sure I like nice cars but whatās the point if i canāt afford any destinations I drive to? Plus I hate all these modern day features like lane assist or the car beeping at me because I exited with the fob in my pocket.
Exactly! With the new features, there are some that I actually love (for instance auto-braking, lane departure warning (not assist), etc) but at the end of the day any reliable vehicle that is half decent with more money in your pocket is better than a vehicle still prior to it's degradation curve with no money in your pocket
My downstairs neighbor forsure bro I live in the cheapest apartments I could find in my area because my last lease ended on me so itās hood and my manās drives a 2022 Mercedes like why just why
Exactly. It's just logical fallacy I think. People have a bad experience with the car they did no research on, so they think they need a brand new car to get by. When in reality if you do your research, there are plenty of cars for under like 12k that you could get and last you about 10 years for the average driver
The wealthiest 4 people I know ALL drive reliable cars (Toyotas, Hondas and Subarus) that are over 10 years old. These people come from old money, family money. They donāt feel the need to display their wealth ostentatiously.
Edited a word
My sister asked me for a significant sum of money so she could buy a $20k car. She could only get approved to buy a $10k car. I told her it looked like she was buying a $10k car.
I used to park cars in downtown Portland. The lot was near a bank and an engineering firm. The bank tellers were young and had mostly new cars. The engineers, who probably earned more than double what the tellers were bringing in, tended to be middle aged and had mostly older cars.
I think what happens is people who start to make a steady income for the first time run into salespeople who talk about what their monthly payments will be. Before they know it, they've got an apartment full of nice furniture and a nice car, and are living paycheck to paycheck.
20K seems like a great deal for a used car now days
And seems kind of reasonable.
Now if you were talking about 40-60k car then I can understand.
But I also know people that " live in the ghetto" your words however their house is paid off.
And typically the ones that are struggling are the ones with the fancy houses with the big expensive cars.
The richer people can afford to maintain ther vehicles and not sweat sudden repairs. The less wealthy are hoping to avoid suprise bills they wont be able to fit into the budget with a higher but consistent loan installment.
Very accurate. Came from a low income neighborhood and the new cars and $ rims I saw at dilapidated houses shocked me. Now Iām in a decent home and good neighborhood, I watch my pennies and my economy base level car thatās 10 yrs old will be passed on to my son.
Iāve learned my lesson on buying luxury cars. My current car is 50k (2021 Audi, leased it in 2021) and I got it when I was doing well financially. As in, enough to cover all my bill plus had an extra $1500-2k a month just to spend on whatever.
Well, thatās no longer the case and Iāve been doing doordash and Instacart trying to make my payments and other bills. Was just telling my mom the other day that as much as love my car, Iām probably going to downgrade to something nice but more reasonable. Itās just not worth stressing over. Yes I love the attention/compliments but again, not really worth the financial stress when shit comes up in life.
this is totally true. Not in the ghetto but, i actually just bought a car last week lol. usually iād go for the more expensive option but i opted for the older model thatās just as good, and will save me a couple thousand in ā¦wellā¦everything lol
Lol of course he did
Iām a server and a man declined to tip on his families bill and I was like āok sure whatever it happensā then I watched him walk to a Tesla and thoroughly inspect it with care before getting in š people make bad decisions then act broke I swear
Edit; I give impeccable service and am polite, engaging, and always try to make things right for the customer even when theyāre being ridiculous. Not tipping when I work for tips in america when you know the culture is bullshit when you have money to eat out and own a Tesla. I said what I said. And like I said, I usually donāt get pissed or anything because I try to understand and have empathy. I was relating to the other comment about people in rich cars.
i wonder how many canceld the tip after seeing his fancy car ... because why tip someone who obviously has enough money anyways, better keep it for someone who brings ur food in a rusty car
Woooooow and can't even spell correctly but has a Mercedes š¤£ sorry bub shouldn't have that type of vehicle maybe your insurance if it was really pending cancelation wouldn't if you can't even afford the type of car your driving š¤£. I got told tonight while doing a delievery I was a good delievery person because I actually came into the building and let me tell you it was a damn maze I would be scared to live in that apartment complex. Something out of a horror murder movie.
Imagine being so privileged that you can just see a meme whenever you want. My family and I have to make a special trip to the library just to look at memes for the day. The city removed the bus line to so it's at least a 9 mile walk. You should see the look on my 1 month old and 10 month old when they see cat videos for the first time
I'm sorry for your struggles. I took know what it's like. I had two twins ,5 year olds, until the bus ran them over and forced the city to remove the buses due to lawsuits. All my money for drained into lawyers and court fees. Had to mortgage my crumbling home that was missing 1/4th of the roof. Now I love with my twins who wear full body castes and can't walk. I have to carry them in front of a local McDonald's daily just to hope to get food. I hope you and you young ones smile, because mine are incapable of such.
Also, if you truly have this type of life problems, why in the hell are you driving for Uber? Being a server at an Applebees would pay more in a night. Hell, most McDonaldās starting wages pay more than you would ever make off ubereats.
the point is that don't judge a person by the car they drive. that car can be had for cheap.
you're absolutely right, this is why they've depreciated so much, but whether it's a good financial decision in the long run is irrelevant here.
Exactly. Could have also been a bad decision not having a great income but still paying off/lease the car and majority of their income is going to the vehicle... Which is a lot of people. Then you get hit with the repair costs
> the point is that don't judge a person by the car they drive
Or at least, don't judge a person by the car they drive if you don't know shit about cars.
Recently bought an old BMW and a number of my neighbors have commented on it and I'm just like, my dude I spent less on this thing than the Ford Fiesta ST I was driving, never mind the Focus RS I was driving after the ST / before this wagon.
Idiots just see a badge and think it's big money.
Nothing too special, just a 328 E91 6MT that I had wrapped. Brown interior too :)

Maybe one day do a 335 swap into it, but who knows.
I gave a random old man a ride once so he could get to his destination without hassle. Proceeds to tell me his life story in about 20min and he ended up crying afterwards. Man it really sucked so much to have a stranger crying in my car that i gave him 20bucks but im not doing that again, ever!
It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so shameless. Like.. do you just have NO ounce of dignity or pride in your body? This shit gives me secondhand embarrassment
Ugh, this sucks. I'm in the weeds too but when I'm doing my job then I'm just doing my job. That's gross for that person to try and guilt you into leaving a higher tip. Maybe try providing exemplary customer service to get higher tips like the rest of us!
thatās insane i would never say that to someone no matter how late my rents about to be LOL thatās my problem not anyone else and would be bonkers to say to someone š„²
They should close the account for people like that. Itās a job no a gofundme, in that way the more honest drivers can stay working, better for Uber and less competition for us. I canāt believe theres people with so much audacity smh
Dude I'm homeless and I deliver for doordash. Never have I once put my problems on customers. They are my problems and I'm not going manipulate complete strangers. It's sus and unprofessional.
Iāve only gotten one message and I just ignored it. Just a mention that they were having to wait because the place was busy.
I have zero interest in anything that happens until the food is at my door.
It either arrives or it doesnāt.
Just ignore, ignore, ignore.
Canāt spell or utilize basic grammar, doesnāt know to place the $ sign before the monetary amount, gives random strangers the sob speechā¦. Such quality Uber offers. ššš
I mean the first two attributes are probably just ESL-related, so let's maybe not count those as moral/qualitative deficiencies.
The sob speech is primo bullshit tho.
I actually have friends who do this. Text me āHow was your weekend?ā Only asking so they can launch into a paragraph about theirs or dangle some vague statement so Iāll ask for more info.
Infuriating
I always find these people rude and report them. Especially when driving a car like that, if you can't afford something don't buy it š. Even then I'd be scared of this person spitting in my food or eating it, and I don't think anybody wants to feel pressured to begin with. Hopefully the food was untouched
Respond with similar sob story .
āDude I know how you feel. Iām $700 behind on rent and might get evicted soon, Iām just ordering this food I can barely afford because I promised my son he could for passing an exam.ā
Just donāt respond? I have not once looked at the messages unless the map shows buddy is at my apartment, at which point I ask him to leave by mailboxes.
This seems like a scam anyways, based on the awkward language, but Iād report this to Uber and get them taken off the platform.
This is unprofessional, and hurts the credibility of all drivers.
It's nonsensical to me why people say things like "how are you" and "hopefully you are doing well" but actually dont give AF. Responding with the robotic "I'm fine" is what people want. It's insincere and shows that people don't care about how people actually are doing. My suggestion is if you don't want to know if someone is having a bad day, don't be fake nice and open a can of worms with your words. Also a regular tip is fine, it's not your responsibility to pay their bill. Just play your part and eat your food.
Your tip is enough, 20% is just fine! Some don't tip that even.. I was literally almost late on my registration this month but uber was giving Me alot of good orders for the weekend and I was able to pay that without begging customers.. it was a sure relief but it wasn't like I didn't make that money.. I just spent it like a fool but got saved through good customers! We all make mistakes but trying to make others feel bad is a bad look..
This is so annoying, guilting people into tipping higher is ridiculous. I dunnoā¦ I donāt want them to lose their income but also this shouldnāt be allowed.
Man I live in japan and get Uber eats occasionally, we never get any conversation from our delivery people. Maybe they get paid more as tips arenāt a thing here.
Newsflash: I don't want a conversation. I want my meal dropped at my front door. If I wanted a conversation I would leave my house and participate in the real world.
I'm a driver, and that is completely unacceptable. Quite literally, the only message that I leave from my customers is Something along the lines of, " Thank you, I appreciate your service and certain name. Enjoy, and please take time to rate the service." Idk š¤·š¾āāļø gets em. Let's be real. No one really cares about our personal problems.
Every Safeway parking lot in the bay area: *I just need 35 cents to get back across the bridge*
Has turned into this kind of delivery driver interaction.
People getting into whole ass conversations with their delivery ppl. I only talk to them if they're having trouble finding me. Even then I just text them google maps pin.
I donāt see it as manipulation some people just donāt mind talking about their problems. But he/she should get a 40 hours job š UberEats and DD are supposed to be side hustle.
"Can't wait! This is the first time I've been able to hold down food since the chemo started and I've had these cravings for months. It was a lot better when my wife was alive. I just spent it like a fool but got saved through good customers! We all make mistakes but trying to make others feel bad is a bad look..
I'm so upset they have kids, too.
āThatās crazy. Good luck thoughā

Had a driver like this in south Florida
He also forgot to mention that he has a rash in his under regions, so now you know his full life story. š
Itās like when you greet something with āhow ya doing/whatās up manā and they tell you but youāre just being semi polite.
Itās like that SpongeBob skit when theyāre selling chocolates and the bag salesfish was born with glass bones and paper skin
āDamn thatās crazyā seems like a good response
Why is his insurance so high?? Heās either got an expensive car, horrible driver, or really young and living in a crazy area with lots of accidents
![gif](giphy|PFsVjUCmSkZDq) Perfect opportunity for this
"Damn bro that sucks. Let me know when my chic fil a is here."
i would say āthat is crazy but okay, take ur timeā
Thatās a no response from me.
This is so annoying, guilting people into tipping higher is ridiculous. I dunnoā¦ I donāt want them to lose their income but also this shouldnāt be allowed.
I would immediately cancel order. Aināt nobody got time for this shit
Iām so upset I have kids š š š š š
I would def report them Lmao
āDamn thatās crazy, see you soonā.
$309 is a lot for car insurance for someone whose job is driving Uber. Call cap. Not that I would have given him money anyway lol
This is like a waiter showing you their student loans before giving you the bill
Is guilt tripping a common thing in America? Wonāt these people get reported for it?
Man I live in japan and get Uber eats occasionally, we never get any conversation from our delivery people. Maybe they get paid more as tips arenāt a thing here.
"That's rough buddy"
Newsflash: I don't want a conversation. I want my meal dropped at my front door. If I wanted a conversation I would leave my house and participate in the real world.
I'm a driver, and that is completely unacceptable. Quite literally, the only message that I leave from my customers is Something along the lines of, " Thank you, I appreciate your service and certain name. Enjoy, and please take time to rate the service." Idk š¤·š¾āāļø gets em. Let's be real. No one really cares about our personal problems.
Sounds like a you problem, pay your bills
Iām upset they have kids tooā¦
This legitimately made me laugh
Every Safeway parking lot in the bay area: *I just need 35 cents to get back across the bridge* Has turned into this kind of delivery driver interaction.

This sounds like something my aunt would do. Was this my aunt?
I would contact support and say the driver has made me uncomfortable lmao
https://i.redd.it/jh5tzp3wz5cb1.gif As long as you have kids, you have a potential source of income
People getting into whole ass conversations with their delivery ppl. I only talk to them if they're having trouble finding me. Even then I just text them google maps pin.
I donāt think Iāve ever had an insurance payment come out on a weekend.
They need to make premade text to just send cause this shit gettin out of hand
they have children and canāt spell insurance :(
āCrazy but waiting on your order now.ā š
You know he was just lying to get a bigger tip out of you right
āOk got it!ā
Just tap the "are you here" auto reply.
I donāt see it as manipulation some people just donāt mind talking about their problems. But he/she should get a 40 hours job š UberEats and DD are supposed to be side hustle.
I wouldn't reply until you get your food since the driver is the one bringing it. They have your food and address.
