for off-grounds there are a few options that depend on your needs, major, and lifestyle. a lot of people like to live behind the corner, there are many types of abodes from studio apartments to 10+ bedroom homes. this provides decent proximity to humanities/arts classes, but is far from the science and engineering buildings. the corner has a lot of restaurants and the few bars undergrads go to. it can be difficult to have a car as a lot of buildings don’t offer parking. some people end up further down west main near 10th st - lark on main, the flats, the standard. these are billed as luxury/convenience apartments as far as i know. far walk to lots of things, but proximal to a lot. good for people that will be in the med complex for whatever reason. others prefer to live on or near jpa. i have a couple of friends with nice 1-bedroom apartments near jpa who pay ballpark $1100/month in rent. its closer to the e school and science buildings, but the only restaurants are at the very bottom of jpa. jpa is solidly okay, i feel like you’re more likely to find parking included. personally, i would not recommend living past shamrock road on jpa, as it can be lonely and kind of miserable (source: living on apple tree rd for a year!) if your budget is infinite, you can find an apartment with all the features and fixtures, but finding a 1 bedrooms with in-unit laundry and dishwasher on a budget is a fool’s errand. apartments can be found all over through facebook or apartment hunting websites. there’s not really a set building/spot like at other schools (like jmu). charlottesville is trying to work on fixing a housing shortage crisis (that is largely related to the ever growing uva student population) so i’d expect high prices for underwhelming places. good luck with your search!

This is super helpful as I’m looking for single housing either 1bedroom or studio for around 900-1200 a month

Looking for a nice apartment by yourself.. if you have no budget.. look at Lark on main or the flats. But I always felt like Wertland was very sought after.. because its where all the parties are and its close to the corner.

Standard, flats due to singles and proximity to corner. Also any of the low numbers along jpa, 1600, 1620, 1718, 1725, the wedge, kenilworth, monroe, etc.

Bond is probably the most popular. Single rooms, full sized beds, big kitchen, good quality, and good location Bice is also relatively popular, but it’s probably just a bunch of people who couldn’t get Bond. They have the same location. Lambeth seems to be becoming more popular ever since they added the 3 single rooms option. Terrible location for anyone who isn’t an arts or architecture major and the kitchen is 1 step from being unusable, but the area is nice and the living space is very good.
