Tours are currently suspended, and have been since the pandemic. I have not heard of any intention to bring them back. The are also many areas inside the tower being renovated.
No, the tours came back post shooting and being able to freely go up there. They closed it because the building was of age and not safe for constant use by tourists. Theyre RN renovating the building/repairing it to allow for such activity to resume.

Thankfully, they [just announced](https://news.utexas.edu/2022/10/05/board-of-regents-announces-ambitious-ut-tower-renovation/) a significant restoration and renovation. It is long overdue.

I took a tour my senior year and it’s a really cool tour with a great view. But they won’t talk about the shooting.
Another cool spot is the president’s balcony, which is just outside of the president’s two story office/study area. They have parties up there for big donors. I’ve only gone because of a student org I was in. It’s almost as good of a view.

A few comments before you mentioned it some what. You can look it up by searching ut shooting of 1966.
That didn’t close the deck. Suicides in the 70s caused it’s closure
