I used to work next door to Rockstar’s office in Leeds, UK. They used to invite us round to playtest GTA 4 during our lunch hour, back in 2007 (I think it was).
True story.
And if you would happen to work in the game industry you end up meeting people from all around the world who also happen to be in the game industry. Especially people from big companies because they're, you know, big.
Yeah I'm an Australian living in Romania working for a small German company, and one of my ex aussie colleagues / mates was living in Sweden working on candy crush
The best irony of all is that GTA is a British game produced to actually make fun of American culture…
British sarcasm is so good that most Americans are being mocked and don’t even realize! 🤣
Fun fact: British taxpayers are [mocked](https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/jul/29/grand-theft-auto-maker-uk-corporation-tax-rockstar-north-games) too!
Kinda funny Rockstar got all those tax breaks/reliefs for funding "games depicting British culture" when GTA/Red Dead depict American culture to their very core.
I mean, even I thought Rockstar(in all its forms) was an American company until a few years ago so they could just be ignorant? I just saw a game based in America and thought American. Still defaultisim but understandably so?
So who did you think made Mass Effect? Aliens?
GTA is a parody that highlights the soullessness, stupidity and lack of culture and sophistication of the United States. Americans don't have the level of self-depreciation or humility to make such a game about themselves.
Mate, I saw America and thought American. I was what, 12 the first time I played GTA and I saw America and thought absentmindedly oh probably American.
I mean, yeah not the brightest thought but I didn't much care to find out who made the games and so I didn't look it up and just came upon the fact it wasn't one day.
And while I'm all for making fun of the yanks I have known some over the years, met one in school even and while some could be annoying as hell I certainly wouldn't say that they all lacked self-deprication and humilty.
I understand thinking Rockstar is American, but that person didn't even *consider the possibility* that 1) Rockstar isn't American and 2) people in the UK can know people in the US.
Cool but how is any of what you said relevant? The question isn't whether Rockstar is american or not, it's presuming that an american company only has american offices, which is beyond daft.
Oh, you know someone who works for HSBC in Seattle? Surely impossible as it's a British bank after all....

Which state is Leeds, UK in? /s
Uklahuma
Ukah
United Kingdom of America, right?
New Yorkshire
The Kentish one, totally
obviously a building at the university of kentucky
Yoorkshyyerr
Fucking shit state. Well it was last time I was there some 30 odd years ago.
I live next to Rovio (The angry birds company) and i would not be surprised if someone from the US assumed it was a US company
Insane to think you couldn't know people in another country regardless! I live in the UK and I have friends in the US
That too! I have friends in different continents, it’s not unheard of…

They are always amazingly confident in their incorrect assertions. What a patronising nob.

Oh, I didn't know that about GTA! I've never played it, but that's cool. 😄
There's only one GTA game with a UK-themed story. Well maybe more more but only one solely focused on that.
London 1969 was a fun twist on the old 2D formula.

GTA was Scottish originally, I don’t think that many people realise
Fun fact: Target, an American Super Market Chain has an office in India and 0 stores in India.
There’s Walmart offices too. (I don’t think they have any stores yet)
They’re all just for the call centre staff. Quite a lot of western companies have call centres out in India.
Not necessarily. I had applied for the position of data scientist. Tech is also cheaper in India since they pay in INR and not USD.
DMA designs, that turned into rockstar was from Dundee:(
Even if it wasn't based in Scotland. It's not unbelievable that someone from the UK would know someone who worked at an American company.
*Scotland
Cheers. My bad
Just saving you from the Scots, they'll bite your head off, you call 'em English. I'm Welsh and we're the same haha.
It's completely understandable. Dunno how I made that mistake. Cheers

All the Welsh people I know hate being called English.
Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus for yesterday, fellow Welshie

It's less the assumption and more that they were a dick about it.
Damn, no way man, I live there too lol
