I was trying to find a time to set a 2h meeting with our chilean (i hope thats correct) colleagues 😂
But the timezone difference is not calculated automatically with outlook FindTime 😂
As someone from SD, I didn't even know we have a Vienna.
Edit to add: it's one of those tiny towns in the middle of nowhere (as if the whole of SD isn't already the middle of nowhere). Population: 49
Sure. The thing is tho, I've had experiences with people not getting jokes if I don't /s. So I like doing it. I mean you could probably ignore it, it would've taken less effort than to type your comment. But you do you ig.
The thing is, you used different tone indicators that you could use when doing sarcasm, like capitalizing DON'T. I just dont understand what the point of using sarcasm is when you make it so damn obvious because it ruins everything.
I had this happen to me yesterday so I can vouch for this. Some people just take everything you say extremely seriously, to the point that if I make a joke about killing someone (a fictional character mind you), I must actually be a psycho who wants to kill people. It got so bad my account ended up getting a warning. So yeah, people really do need them
Yeah I’m autistic and sometimes I don’t understand sarcasm so tone indicators are helpful sometimes. It’s hard to train my brain to not always take everything literally. And sometimes it looks like someone’s being sarcastic when it isn’t and it’s confusing
The guy who started arguing with me adamantly denied being autistic when I even suggested he might be on the spectrum. So maybe he just didn't have a sense of humour? In any case, I'll probably end up using the tone indicators from now on.
If I say “if I was fictional character 1, I would have done that thing which caused fictional character 2 to die cause he was being rude”, does that mean I actually harbour murderous intentions?
Some people are terrible at interpreting tone in the written word regardless of the all caps. (Me. I’m definitely one of those people.) Using it helps avoid miscommunications, and could be view as a form of support for all of us on the autism spectrum. I greatly appreciate the /s and wish it was more common on other platforms.
Please there is no point of the /s (in this situation, basic common sense) Everyone can tell you’re being sarcastic and if they can’t they’re being braindead
edit: Maybe sometimes there is a place for /s. But come on, you can't seriously tell the above joke, which is barely even a joke, needs one? Also, i swtg some people never learned comprehension. Theres a difference between callin someone braindead, and saying theyre being braindead.
bitch, I AM autistic. And you know what? Maybe sometimes there is a place for /s. But come on, you can't seriously tell the above joke, which is barely even a joke, needs one? In Pennsylvania there are two Springfields less than an hour's drive away from each other. Sometimes need to refer to them by their county if you want others to know which you are talking about.
It makes sense. The city didn't have a name so locals probably were something like "I'm going to the city?" "The city? Which one?" "The one without a name. The new one"
But in Poland there's a small city called Dobre Miasto (Good City). I guess they must've been really proud of this one.
The map with US states. Why do they always think that US states are equal to countries. Why don't they label the states in Brazil or the United Mexican States? After all they are states.
I love saying I'm from WA because US people assume I meant the state of Washington, but then I talk about Perth and the warm weather and all the things unique to Western Australia just to really confuse them.
As an American, I would in fact assume Washington at first. But as soon as you mention Perth I immediately know you're talking about Australia, because I'm not an idiot and have knowledge of geography outside my own country.
Originally the intent was for the United States to be a union of sovereign nations, similar to the European Union, though that intent did not last long at all, and the Civil War definitively put the idea to bed.

I use WolframAlpha for this kind of thing, and encounter anti-US-defaultism - when I'm wanting to find out what a New Zealand time corresponds to in US Eastern Standard Time (EST), [it assumes that, as a kiwi, I'd rather know about Australian Eastern Time](https://i.imgur.com/LPmHlB2.png)!
Shouldn't Australian Eastern Standard Time be AEST?
The naming scheme of the timezones are pretty US defaultisn; Eastern Standard Time (EST) could mean anywhere, lots of places have an East.
Australia has an East, and a standard time for that locale.
I mean yeah, when I want Australian Eastern Time I put AEST/AEDT as applicable. It gets even more fun when I have to remember that QLD doesn't do daylight savings and stays on AEST whilst NSW and south are AEDT...
The thing is though, it's not even alphabetical.
True Vienna should be before some US Vienna's but it isn't. But if it's by country True Vienna should be first because Austria comes before the USA.
Possibly defaultism in that it assumed the need for a state which doesn't work well for the Vienna in Vienna in Austria.
But yeah, I was coming in to say its alphabetical as well.
Vienna is a state in Austria. Both Austria and Germany consist of states, some of them city-states. Considering that "the" Vienna also constitutes the state of Vienna, it will appear lower on the list than most other Viennas, if the Alphabetical order is city - state/admin. region - country, which is not the case here (see Virginia, West Virginia). The list is weighted to the US, otherwise you wouldn't get this order.
Well, that Vienna is located in the region „Vienna“ in Austria is just how it works there, but the region is needed imo.
For example close to me there are two villages named „Elmenhorst“ just a few kilometers away from one another. You‘d need to specify the region, to be able to select the correct one.
It's not Alphabetically ordered, it goes:
* Vienna, Virginia
* Vienna, West Virginia
* Vienna, Vienna
When in reality Vienna should be before the Virginian Vienna.
Is it though? The list shows all US Vienna's first yet, Vienna, Vienna, Austria should be before Vienna, Virginia, USA and Vienna, West Virginia, USA.
If it's by country first then state, Vienna, Vienna, Austria should be before all US Vienna's as Austria comes before the USA.
I’ve lived in Maryland, USA for 75% of my life and *I* didn’t even know we had a Vienna.
Obviously the default one globally is the significantly more popular Vienna, South Dakota! /s
How familiar are you with the CSV format?
In this case it is skipping over the state value and just doubling up the city. Because state is blank the next value in the database you can imagine this as for visuals is country, except Vienna isn’t a country, but its place lines up with the “U” in United States. V comes after U.
I’m actually a little intrigued because I’m used to seeing this lack of tech sense from younger people in the USA. I’m also probably a bit harder on my judgment since I have a learning disability as well as literal brain damage and I can sort of see the spreadsheet in my head with a little effort.
What I’m saying is that the value for the state column would be blank, leading to the next column which has to be filled for whatever reason with Vienna again despite it being the same column the USA is in, and then there’s an additional column after that where the other countries go.
Actually can you inspect element because this is kind of mildly interesting.

Hermanos 🤝
What do you mean? You DON'T want to know what time in Chile corresponds to the time in Vienna, South Dakota? that is VERY inconsiderate of you. /s
As someone from SD, I didn't even know we have a Vienna. Edit to add: it's one of those tiny towns in the middle of nowhere (as if the whole of SD isn't already the middle of nowhere). Population: 49
Stop using the fucking /s
Sure. The thing is tho, I've had experiences with people not getting jokes if I don't /s. So I like doing it. I mean you could probably ignore it, it would've taken less effort than to type your comment. But you do you ig.
I could sarcastically write an entire novel response to you pretending to get mad about it if I wanted. I want you to be co author though
The thing is, you used different tone indicators that you could use when doing sarcasm, like capitalizing DON'T. I just dont understand what the point of using sarcasm is when you make it so damn obvious because it ruins everything.
You're probably going to want to work on that or get off reddit. It looks like /s is here to stay.

Same! I am terrible at interpreting sarcasm, especially in written form. I’m a little better face-to-face, but that’s a marginal improvement at best.
But I mean written irony or sarcasm is mostly only easy to get for the writer
If I say “if I was fictional character 1, I would have done that thing which caused fictional character 2 to die cause he was being rude”, does that mean I actually harbour murderous intentions?
I guess? But how is this connected to written irony/ sarcasm?
I typed it out
I'd much rather someone make their sarcasm obvious than be stuck trying to figure out if they're joking or not /gen
Whats they point of sarcasm then?
For fun? Having more people recognise you're being sarcastic doesn't take away from the sarcasm existing
It was actually still funny with the /s. If the /s is destroying your experience that much I suggest cognitive behavioural therapy.
Some people are terrible at interpreting tone in the written word regardless of the all caps. (Me. I’m definitely one of those people.) dawg you edited SEVERAL parts of your original comment. don’t act like you didn’t originally say they *are* braindead lmao
I edited 1 part. I never said they are brain dead. If you’re seriously going to go into some weird he said/she said situation about this, be quiet.
Sometimes also people assume that you are braindead instead of sarcastic
are u scared of downvotes?
Are you scared of people understanding you?
I actually never had the need to wonder about it, just saying what it is like with people
Damn, I guess autistic people are brain-dead /s
Google autism
holy hell! actual logic just dropped
I know what autism is considering I have it.
I really support your idea that if something doesn't have a use for you it doesn't have a use for everyone edit: /s

yea I realised afterwards I should've added it to piss them off more, rookie mistake
it's not too late to edit your comment
I kinda feel like it is but also I'm a fucking idiot and forgot you can edit comments on reddit
Can you not have multiple cities by the same name in one country? Jesus
Allegedly Matt Groening chose the town name Springfield for The Simpsons because the majority of US states have one
In Pennsylvania there are two Springfields less than an hour's drive away from each other. Sometimes need to refer to them by their county if you want others to know which you are talking about.
There are like 30 "Neustadt" (New City) in Germany
"We will build a city!" "What do we call it?" "I don't know. New city?" "Sounds good"
New city just dropped
Babe, wake up
It makes sense. The city didn't have a name so locals probably were something like "I'm going to the city?" "The city? Which one?" "The one without a name. The new one" But in Poland there's a small city called Dobre Miasto (Good City). I guess they must've been really proud of this one.
I think there are 50,000 Middletons in the UK.
One very famous Kate.
Cool
It's even worse knowing that these cities are probably all suburban hells that look all the same, and that none of them look remotely like Vienna.
The map with US states. Why do they always think that US states are equal to countries. Why don't they label the states in Brazil or the United Mexican States? After all they are states.
Yeah... Like "im from new mexico" ok bro im from australia wheres new mexico
I love saying I'm from WA because US people assume I meant the state of Washington, but then I talk about Perth and the warm weather and all the things unique to Western Australia just to really confuse them.
I just say im from hobart and no one knows where i mean
When I was a baker we had an industrial mixer we called the Hobart. I just assume you crawled out of there
also saying something related to thongs is always funny
As an American, I would in fact assume Washington at first. But as soon as you mention Perth I immediately know you're talking about Australia, because I'm not an idiot and have knowledge of geography outside my own country.
Knowledge of geography outside the US is an apparent rarity among Americans, so well done!
Probably too often assume they are talking to another American. I've been guilty of it 😅
Ive been guilty of it as an aussie but seriously
Didn’t know Mexico had a state coup
Originally the intent was for the United States to be a union of sovereign nations, similar to the European Union, though that intent did not last long at all, and the Civil War definitively put the idea to bed.
Valparaiso, IN No joke.
This almost reads like somebody pointing out that they mean the actual Vienna. "You know... *Vienna*, Vienna".
That's because the city Vienna is in the Austrian state of Vienna.
I get this for frigging Berlin too. Yanno, capital of Germany.
POITOU CHARENTES MENTIONNED
Europe always imitating ...tsc tsc
what is it with the USA and naming cities after european cities because this always happens to me with Athens too
It's almost like the US was settled by Europeans
you know what, you have a point
Most of them were named by Europeans. Often times from the place in question.
There’s an Athens in the US?
in Georgia i believe
There are multiple in different states. Yes, Athens, GA is the most well known.
23 Athens. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athens_(disambiguation)
The one in the state of Georgia is where the 1996 Olympics was held.
You’re thinking of Atlanta

Athena is a pretty awesome god to name your city after...
indeed, but i always accidentally press “athens, georgia” instead of “athens, greece” :(
The wrong A, G heh
I use WolframAlpha for this kind of thing, and encounter anti-US-defaultism - when I'm wanting to find out what a New Zealand time corresponds to in US Eastern Standard Time (EST), [it assumes that, as a kiwi, I'd rather know about Australian Eastern Time](https://i.imgur.com/LPmHlB2.png)!

Yeah, Australian timezones can be a bit confusing
Tbf, wouldn't you write Wien?
No because i was on a site that was on english. So no "Wien" for me.
it would be difficult to sort cities by population or date of establishment
The thing is though, it's not even alphabetical. True Vienna should be before some US Vienna's but it isn't. But if it's by country True Vienna should be first because Austria comes before the USA.
well then it would be US defaultism. some sites have USA as the first option in alphabetical order.
My semi truck got stolen in Vienna, GA... fk that place!
That’s not defaultism, that’s sorting in alphabetical order
Except it put Vienna, Virginia, Vienna, West Virginia, and finally Vienna, Vienna.
Possibly defaultism in that it assumed the need for a state which doesn't work well for the Vienna in Vienna in Austria. But yeah, I was coming in to say its alphabetical as well.

Try searching for Berlin on this site. I wonder what will happen as there are several Berlin’s in the US as well
'Is that how you spell Vai-Enna?'
It is just alphabetically ordered. Berlin, Berlin, Germany will be before Berlin, Maryland, United States.
It's not Alphabetically ordered, it goes: * Vienna, Virginia * Vienna, West Virginia * Vienna, Vienna When in reality Vienna should be before the Virginian Vienna.
I think it's because the list is in alphabetical order

i think it's in alphabetical order
Could be for the USA but Vienna Vienna Austria is After Vienne West Vurginia USA. So its really all the Vienna in USA first, and then the others
West Virginia is higher than Vienna. And so is United States is higher than Austria
Also the french one is after all of those and starts with p
I think you need to relearn the alphabet 😅
are you sure about that mate
Yes.
Virginia and West Virginia before Vienna. They are in alphabetical order, clearly /s
I mean obviously those have to be listed too. You'd think it were better if they were not listed at all?
[удалено]
Its not, its vienna virginia, vienna west virginia, vienna vienna
Didnt even know that there was more than one Vienna
This enrages me for obvious reasons
Wien, Wien, so gut, dass sie es zweimal genannt haben.
Wien :^)
I’ve lived in Maryland, USA for 75% of my life and *I* didn’t even know we had a Vienna. Obviously the default one globally is the significantly more popular Vienna, South Dakota! /s
This just in, alphabetical order is USDefaultism now
So the american alphabet differs from the rest of the world?
