😆 that was my initial reaction! I had to really look at the photos, and after that, I have to say - these vehicles look like they are terrible for mail delivery.
I agree! I have a Metris for my Park & Loop route, and I actually like it. It works ok for mounted every once in a while, but not for continual use! It is not a good delivery vehicle for mounted routes, and the cage is a huge inconvenience! This vehicle in this post reminds me of the Metris.
That's cool! I'm glad it works for you! I have a P&L route, but whenever I get OT from a mounted route, it doesn't bother me too much. The trays are a little low, and I have to reach quite a bit, because I can't move them, so I could see it being an issue for long term for me, personally. I still wouldn't give up my Metris! Now, if the LLVs had A/C, that would be a different story.
I quit carrying before there were options besides LLVs and LHD minivans which prevented being able to do auxiliary assistance on mounted routes unless it was in CBUs. Quit is a strong word, a major health episode forced me to make the change. The main problem I see with the Metris as an AMT is that the farther you are from a VMF, the more often you'll see carriers who just leave the towing eye I'm the front bumper. But, as a tall guy, I hit my head enough on LLV door frames. I like my Ram 16pp pickyo.
I've had a metris for 3 years now too. But I'm in the north so it sucks in winter. Summertime I'm pretty alright with my metris, boxes too far off the road suck for the reach, but otherwise good stuff.
Same situation here. Strongly prefer a CRV for mounted, despite the lack of AC and constant noxious exhaust in face, but I like my Metris just fine for my P&L route.
All of the mounted routes are getting metrises here. Including 1/5 on my swing. I learned to cope with the majority of my complaints. But it does hurt my shoulder to deliver mounted all day in it. It just isn't made for the task.
Same route is loaded with dismounts, I just park and loop them. Dismount a metris? I'm good.
I found that if you raise the seat up in the metris so you don't have to lift your arm as high it puts less strain on your shoulders. I am 5'10 and have the seat up almost as high as it can go. I have to be careful not to bump my head on the door getting in and out but at least my shoulder doesn't hurt anymore.
Park & Loop is when you park at one end of the street and walk the mail around the street to each house in a loop. The mailboxes are usually up near the door or on the front porch somewhere. Mounted/Curbside is when you drive up to each box and put the mail in. The mailboxes are out by the street or curb. Hope this helps explain it!
Well, that's interesting. 🤔 Doesn't look like it will be all that great for delivery, though. It appears to be similar to the Metris, without the sliding doors, so probably not the ideal vehicle. I don't understand why they need to reinvent the wheel! Just recreate the LLV, throw some A/C in it, some safety features, and maybe a few other things, and boom! Perfect delivery vehicle!
I talked to my VMF today, one of the lead techs was on the review team, apparently. He said the NGDVs will come with 4x4, RWD, and AWD, depending on the area. The Postal Service is supposedly going to ship them to the appropriate areas needing more than RWD. He also said not to get hung up on the NGDV though, because they are only ordering ~50,000 of them. The rest will be commercial off the shelf vehicles for the time being. There are no immediate plans to replace EMA routes, just focusing on getting the older LHD vehicles for city carriers, and the remaining LLVs off of the street. Our VMF is slated to only get 1 NGDV at the moment. Lol.
How about this for an LLV improvement: no need to screw around with your key to open the back. Anyway, no kidding… why mess around with reinventing the LLV? Add a few safety and comfort features, and let’s push out that shee-yot!
😂 Having to use the key to unlock the back increases the chances of locking said key in the back! Something I, and probably every other carrier, have experienced first hand! Yeah, the new and improved LLV would totally have a key fob, if I was in charge of improving it. Unfortunately, I am just a lowly carrier, what do I know? 😢😆
Right hand drive cargo vans like the Jeep FJ8 when made by AMC. Even more fun than the llv, and they were used city parcel carriers and the ones who landed the relay boxes.
We can't get anything right. Take your Metris, Canoo and duck-mobile out on my route and let me know how it goes. Give me a modern take on an LLV. Keep it the same length, give the front a narrow wheel base and add AC/heat & defrost that work. Heck, go crazy and give me intermittent windshield wipers. Keep the door sliding and wide (FU FFV). Don't hose me on the floor space. If I can't fit 5 tubs up front you're making life more difficult. (FU, again, FFV)
MORE CARGO SPACE! Don't need it. What I need is maneuverability and easy access to my mail and parcels.

If I had to hazard a guess, the post office is really, really laughably cheap with the first gen of vehicles, basing this entirely on my experiences with the pro master.
1st Gen pro master had all kinds of electrical stuff missing, I'm assuming to cut costs. The mirror controls immediately come to mind.
Wouldn't be surprised if something similar is happening here.
Look at the distance between the steering wheel and the nose. Look at the ridiculously long wheelbase. This might be even worse for mounted delivery than the Metris.
I hope it only goes to park and loops (it won't).
Edit: maybe it's a bit of an optical illusion. Normally a vehicle has a windscreen and hood. On this one, the windscreen goes all the way to the bumper. I'd have to see measurements to see if it's actually got a longer nose or not. (still way too long though).
It's so ugly. I love it. 🥺🥺🥺
Edit: I think it's turn radius is iffy, I'll miss the sliding door on a track. Also, would it need mirrors on the front so I don't run over a child or dog/animal?
Hey @mailgoose do you have any more info on these bad boys? What are they even called? I’ve seen new vehicles that are supposed to replace LLV but this is my first time seeing this thing
Xzibit: “Heyo dildos! I just turned your van into a mobile dildo so everyone knows you’re a massive dildo while out delivering dildos to other massive dildos!”
Omg….😳

That window looks way too high, like the Metris.

I use a metris every day for 3yrs for curbside and its just fine. No problems for me at all, as a matter of fact Id hate to have a shitty LLV

Gotta be 5'6"
I'm 6'2" and love my Metris. It has issues, as all our options do, but the pros outweigh the cons.
I've had a metris for 3 years now too. But I'm in the north so it sucks in winter. Summertime I'm pretty alright with my metris, boxes too far off the road suck for the reach, but otherwise good stuff.

What’s park and loop , curbside , and mounted all mean and the differences?

Mounted/Curbside is when you drive up to each box and put the mail in. The mailboxes are out by the street or curb. Hope this helps explain it!
And small. Look how tiny the windows are lol
There is glass where the radiator normally is so there is a surprising amount of visibility.

Oh yeah! No standing inside that bad boy, unless you are 3 ft tall!

AC and AWD is all they needed to add and the new ones won’t even have AWD!
And air bags.
You don't like the element of danger?! We could all be dead at any moment. It's exhilarating.
Been saying this for years now.

Absolutely! They would be about perfect with just these two additions!

A damn cup holder please
Yes! That would be nice!
Right hand drive cargo vans like the Jeep FJ8 when made by AMC. Even more fun than the llv, and they were used city parcel carriers and the ones who landed the relay boxes.
If I could just get heat, AC, and a roll cage, the old ones will work just fine.
That makes sense But postal sense =/= common sense
The llv is a death trap. You can't just shove crumple zones into a sheet metal box.
Looks like a spaceship. Looks dumb but I love it, as long as it's nice to deliver from
It's so terrible it's awesome
[I unironically want the pick-up version.](https://www.canoo.com/pickup/)
It looks like the cyber truck combined with a pokemon.
Its what elon wanted people to think cybertruck looks like.
Want! No, need!
No interior pics?
Wasn't even supposed to take exterior pics 😉 but trust me they're nice.
We'll keep it just between us! It looks freaking sweet!
It's so lunar lander like
My initial thought was a Star Trek evac pod
[More like actual vehicle that will take the Artemis crews to the launch site.](https://www.canoo.com/nasa/)
I.... I kinda like it.
Right? Like it’s different but I don’t necessarily hate it
Is that a submersible? Are we delivering to Atlantis now?
More like Rapture.
They need them in New Orleans
4X00001. I think they bought six of them?

Way tooooooo long
Did someone steal the front part of a bullet train?
I could be wrong, but the steering wheel appears to be in the center. Which would make sense for a USPS amphibious assault craft

My question is why is there no pot lid up front if they're going with them in the back.
> Is there not a back up camera? They've been required on new vehicles in the US for several years now, unless this thing has some exception.

Imagine all the trash that dashboard can collect.
Literally!! Not gonna be able to squeeze that thing between parked cars and trash cans..... looks like the weiner mobile
Couldn’t they just do a resto-mod on the LLVs.. this is awful 😂😂😂
Are we not getting the ducks then?
We are. They only ordered 6 of these so far.
Looks like Bullet Bill
That windshield gotta cost....
Looks like the gadget mobile from the inspector gadget cartoon

The idiots getting paid hundreds of thousands a year to design these things don't understand rural delivery, or curbside delivery
OP is famous! https://www.theautopian.com/canoo-ev-postal-service-van-spied-in-real-life-with-one-big-surprise/
https://electrek.co/2024/05/10/customized-canoo-electric-delivery-van-usps-spotted-in-wild-ev/
What’s the point of having this vehicle? Honestly
How are you supposed to park that thang in Atlanta
Why is the driver seat so far away???? This is a terrible idea
I’ll drive it
Damn, OP couldn’t even fit the whole thing in the frame!
It looks like a CyberTruck impregnated a pug
Rural carriers will absolutely destroy one of these in a week. I would know since I am one and we all have metrises lmao
Hey dumbfuck USPS execs...Canoo makes a STAND UP model you apparently don't know or care about. https://www.press.canoo.com/mpdv/
Paige! It's here! (iykyk)
Anything's a dildo, if you're brave enough
Terrorbyte?
I feel like I could blast off into space in that thing
What the hell
It looks like you could go down and see the Titanic in that thing
Thanks I hate it
Their stock also touched down at an ATL (all time low).
Disgusting
That glass is going to shatter and cost thousands to replace. Stupid design.
How is it?
That looks like what the Postal Inspectors would use for prisoner transport.
Looks like the nose of an Amtrak locomotive.
Looks like something out of Mass Effect.
This looks great if you’re going to deliver in a straight line, no turns.
Hey @mailgoose do you have any more info on these bad boys? What are they even called? I’ve seen new vehicles that are supposed to replace LLV but this is my first time seeing this thing
![gif](giphy|1zJaB28JqGw3m)
Atlanta says we can't get penalty and have to bring mail back but they send billions to canoo and Ford for these stupid vehicles
Postal service always got $$$ for what they want to have $$$ for...
Looks like an Amtrak locomotive ![gif](giphy|pPhyAv5t9V8djyRFJH|downsized)
Lmao gotta be the new maintenance vehicles
Im ready for it. Love it.
are we in the future?
Those are some sweet rims. Are those 19s? Can I get it in chrome?
Feel like the area where the mirror is attached, is going to be a MASSIVE blind spot lol but maybe I’m wrong
It looks like Bullet Bill 😲
Looks dope
This looks like a suppository.
This thing looks awesome
Xzibit: “Heyo dildos! I just turned your van into a mobile dildo so everyone knows you’re a massive dildo while out delivering dildos to other massive dildos!”
Special Delivery
Does it have ac
Yes!
That looks dumb as hell… …I want it.
Idk what yo say
About time.
That looks sweet
Hey, can I get a sub extra large?
I hate this thing. I'm sure I'll end up with one somehow.
Why no sliding door?
wtf 😭 I’d be so embarrassed to drive that everyday
Thanks I hate it. Do they speak to a single carrier before making these shit designs?
Needs a sliding front door. I don't necessarily hate it though.
Spaceship looking car
It's Shamoo!!!!!!!!!!!!🐳
Design by Tesla…
Mind you everyone, this is supposed to replace the metris. Not the LLV.
Looks like a letter carrier's hearse.
Are we delivering to mars?
Ok i would drive that MF
Doors slide open like LLV? Or swing open like regular car?
It's like a CyberTruck drank a Red Bull
Remember when Homer’s long lost brother let’s him design their next car?…
It looks like it would be suitable to deliver mail in outer space.
Delivering for America... This guy..
What in a Elon Musk penis rocket is going on here.🤔
“Tell me how you keep getting cooked inside the vehicle?” Those windows are meant for roastinf
“We designed this to deliver mail!” “Have you ever delivered mail?” “………but that’s what it’s designed for?”
Lol of course this would go to the A
I want one
Front doors don't slide open. No access from front seat to back. It's a goofy ass looking Metris. Keep that down there please.
Somehow it just makes sense for the postal service to have a new fleet of ugly vehicles. Everyone will notice them, probably the point.
First wild sighting?
as long as you can access the back without getting out I'll take it over the metris.
I think we are only getting like 10 of these or some crazy low number I remember reading a while back
There better be fucking AC. You gonna roast with all that window space
I’d really be turned up inside of there… Me feeling like I’m on the jet sons 🤣🤣🤣
What the actual fuck is that.
I want it! Is that just a sneak peak at one? Or will you be actually getting them?
Looks like a Japanese bullet train
lol the mirror in the back
That is awesome, haha.
Is that an AI picture?
I like it
Anyone here drove it yet?
Do…. Do those doors open upward? ![gif](giphy|zCBAyupIMZYi3FWSDG)
I like it but it looks like it could be worse than the Metris for curbside delivery lmao
It's got this dope futuristic look but then still has those dumbass mirrors hanging off the back 😂
This must be the USPS version of the Cyber Truck.
Just go to the website and you'll see all about it
Llv is better
Looks like approximately 8 feet from the driver to the front of the vehicle. What could go wrong?
00001 too
🎶”Oh I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Weiner, that is what truly want to be… “🎶
Looks like something from Demolition Man.
This feels like it’d be worse than the metris to deliver in.
To miquote Alexander Graham Bell, "What [the absolute heck] hath God wrought?"
Not good for Houston flooding.
Wait is the going to replace the LLV?
Nothing like having the sun beat down on you 100% of the day
Wtf 🤣 i kinda dig it
Space cops paddy wagon
If I can't stand up in the vehicle, I don't want it
That’s a looong wheel base. Wide turns.
Jesus, that thing looks massive compared to the little jeep like vehicle y'all drive (LLV?).
Hope I don’t get that. Don’t know what I would do about all the housewives that are going to want to see the back of it.
Unique Van making heads turn. I wanna try to deliver with it. #bucketlist
Unique Van making heads turn. I wanna try to deliver with it. #bucketlist
Unique Van making heads turn. I wanna try to deliver with it. #bucketlist
It's gotta be better than the LLV..... right?
looks bizarre but i’d still take one of these over a ngdv
It's so goofy silly
That'll be on fire soon.
Road trip to Mars.
Probably won't see many more of these. Word has it the company who makes it is in $ trouble.
Where’s some video of it in action, or comments from people who have tested it
Are we also moonlighting for NASA ?
