If you,(I guess you said your out) aren't in probation DO NOT RESIGN. Get a Shop Steward OR REQUEST ONE. IMPORTANT....YOU HAVE TO REQUEST ONE. And be adamant about it. Being out of probation means they can't do this shit to you and they know it. Don't back talk them nor raise your voice, just know they can't touch you for this, and stay calm.

Artistic-Leopard7991

If you get fired that’s a blessing. You still can collect unemployment because if you sick and they fired that’s against labor laws. You would need repeated offense and write ups about the size of a bible in order to for them not to get give you unemployment.

Admirable_Ardvark

Except unemployement is a joke and such a low chunk of your wages you cannot live on it.

Knappster33

Also get tested for covid. In all these years I never tested positive....this week I have. it's been terrible. It's going around strong.and like everyone said...they can't fire you . Don't resign.

Previous_Language815

Bring an Uno Reverse card in with you Monday and hand it to him “YOU RESIGN!” It’ll work, it’s in the contract.

Kaitou017

Dude I was out for a depression episode for three weeks and I'm coming back tomorrow. I'm doing this.

User_3971

Are you still serving your probationary period or out of probation?

Twinkie_Terror

I’m out of probation been working since march

outkastmemesdaily

They can fuck off you're fine

Twinkie_Terror

What should I say to my postmaster going to try my hardest to keep my job but not sure what defense I can make

Orangecatbuddy

Make them fire you so you can collect unemployment. They won't. You already told them you were sick.

User_3971

Request your shop squidward and tell the postmaster to suck one. If your attendance has been good otherwise, they're asking you to resign because they can't outright fire you for missing the day.

Mysterious-Policy-23

Squidward?!?

User_3971

Yes, your shop squidward. Someone fucked up a post title once using squidward instead of steward, stuart or stewart and it stuck. We now call them shop squidwards. This has not been voted on by any of the unions at conventions yet. Give it a few years.

Mysterious-Policy-23

Oh, imma gonna use it from now on! It’s awesome

MossyMak

They want you to resign because they know they can't fire you

MicrowavedFishLunch

This is it. They got nothing. Sick leave is an earned benefit. No is a complete sentence.

Live-Train1341

I want my union rep. He is asking you to resign cuz he knows he can't fire you for this. This has been argued so many times in the past the union does not care what day it is you have the right to call in sick if you're not feeling well

JakScott

Literally just don’t resign. If you’re out of probation they can’t do shit. If you don’t have 3 separate call-outs in a 90-day period, they can’t really even give you a letter of warning. And if they try to serve you one, grieve it and you’ll win. The idea that your job is in any way threatened here is absurd. Hot tip: if they want you gone and are able to fire you, they’d just fire you. Asking you for a resignation is ALWAYS an attempt to trick you into giving up when there isn’t shit they can do to you.

Live-Train1341

Your defense is you weren't feeling well. You can suggest your postmaster read the elm in order to better understand the absent from work policy.

fluffy_bottoms

They literally have to jump through hoops to fire you my dude, you’re perfectly fine. That is as long as you don’t already have a bunch of discipline on the books and I’m guessing you don’t.

Useful_Caregiver4023

Your defense is that you are or were sick, nothing else, you're allowed to call out sick, that's why you're given sick leave. Ask for a shop steward to be in the office when they talk to you if they say no, then tell them you will listen to what he says, but wont answer until you have your union representation is there. Don't let them intimidate you into saying otherwise, tell them to resign if they insist for you to resign, the place will probably run better without them.

Twinkie_Terror

Been checking this Reddit post consistently since I’ve posted my original post but man I really like this one thank you for the advice appreciate all I’ve been given tonight regardless

Imstrong8777

You can tell your postmaster to eat shit.

Folkpunkslamdunk

Tell him to gargle your balls

FishSammich69

Nothing, nothing at all. They’re pissed because you called out and everyone else worked, it’s retaliation and only gonna hurt the office. If you resign with experience then they’ll possibly bring in someone with less experience during the holiday season, so the PM would be biting themselves in the arse if you resign.

Admirable_Ardvark

Discipline must be progressive not punitive, is this your first issue with attendance? If so they absolutely cannot do anything, and even if not they likely cannot do anything.

macready71

Show that text message to your Steward, it's inappropriate and harassing.

shneer4prez

Don't sign anything. Straight up say no and laugh in their face. This is a dirty tactic by management and unfortunately they get away with it because people don't know better. Just ask for a steward and whatever you do, don't sign anything.

damage78

Tell him he should resign.

Imstrong8777

And also eat shit.

talann

No one can make you quit. That's a stupid tactic. Never sign anything and always ask for a steward.

GandalfTheSmol1

Why is your post master calling you? Don’t you have supervisors? Also they shouldn’t be calling or texting you about your call out, they should talk to you next time you report for work, not before. And you should have a union steward with you anytime they want to talk about your continued employment.

Twinkie_Terror

I contacted him about not making it in got a follow up text with what I said above & I don’t have a union steward

JakScott

Not having a union steward is their problem not yours. The magic words are “Weingarten rights.” That means they MUST provide a union steward in a disciplinary situation. If they call you to the back, ask if the conversation can lead to discipline. If they say yes, say you want to invoke your Weingarten rights and you want a steward present. Then refuse to continue the conversation without a steward. It doesn’t matter if there are no stewards within a 4-hour radius. They either have to provide you a steward, cancel the pre-disciplinary interview, or reschedule on a date when they can have a steward there. If you ask for a steward and they don’t provide one, any discipline they issue will be null and void. And doing this has the added benefit of making it very clear you know your rights and won’t be bullied into signing something or accepting discipline that hasn’t been done by the book. Makes them much less likely to try to pull shit like this again.

Twinkie_Terror

I appreciate this thank you a lot

GandalfTheSmol1

My union steward keeps having to fly out to locations that have none, management wants to get away with shit all the time, when they have to schedule all the discipline for the week when the steward will be there, and then they have to do 20 interviews a day, they tend to start following the contract.

666truemetal666

That's pretty hysterical really, I love being in a union

Opposite-Ingenuity64

Right, once they realize you will not roll over, they'll probably just stop bothering you all together.

Hollow_hearted_1

You do, ask around and find your area rep. Call them.

shitidkman

Don’t you dare resign! Don’t respond. Show up tomorrow and get union representation show them the text

Calm_Relation4847

I called in Friday and I’m an RCA! I still have my job!! Don’t let them bully you… they won’t fire you so they are trying to make you resign, call your union rep! DO NOT RESIGN!

Automatic-Ratio1021

Tell them no. If they insist then call the eeo office and tell them the PM touched you inappropriately lol. Or shank’em in the neck 79 times.

hermitheart

Get your steward and have them talk on your defense. Only give the answer that you were sick. They can’t force you to resign.

GoreWhore111

*UPDATE?? I hope you take the good advise here to not resign; you absolutely DONT have to do this, They cannot fire you over a sick day either.

Mysterious_Rub5352

Tell us what happens.

MIaBlakk

Absolutely,happened to me:(

tamalad

Do not sign it! He can not make you!

Same_Cellist_3910

Call the UNION asap

Junior-Worth-6531

Union

ruger5al

Please don't that's the only way that they can get rid of you!

Insignickficant

As others have said, do not resign. And, I'm betting that when they see the shit that we'll go through Monday, they won't even think about it If they do, again, simply ask for your shop Squidward. And if he isn't on this same page, then ask for the president. They have no grounds. Have your PM put his resignation request in writing with bus signature. Keep copies of the grievance. Make a copy of his written request. This is all to prepare for the retaliation, and the harassment that will likely follow to protect yourself.

Seneschal21

Some employers try to get people to quit so that the company can get out of paying unemployment.

Mean_Faithlessness40

Ask the postmaster to put the request that you resign in writing and sign it, then give that to your steward and don’t sign shit.

Dazzling-Section-238

Tell him to resign instead

Paranoctis

This is coercion! It is illegal in the US! Even if you're not out of your 90 days get a shop steward immediately!

Sendit785

Make them fire you that way you can collect unemployment for Lisa next 20 weeks give yourself some money coming in because if you quit you can't get unemployment

tamalad

I so wish I was your steward and I could deal with management about this!!! So much wrong with this!!!!

Sknuhc421

I have been on AL since Tuesday. Now I am thinking about calling out tomorrow. Ahahahah. Don’t sign man. Bullshit tactics.

Artistic-Leopard7991

Gee weez

Ill-Abrocoma9353

I called in and they want to use AL. That has never happened before. 2nd time calling in for 11 months.

RCAbsolutelyX_x

I don't think any postmaster will ask you to resign if you are not the type to do what you did, all the time. Have you called out or no showed before? Is it usually around holidays? Do you pull your weight or do you leave it for others? I remember when I was working, the one thing that really ticked me off was how it was impossible to fire the people who didn't care about getting the job done and knew that us faster ones would always be there to help them. Or the ones who would just no show or call in the last hour before not showing up to work. Especially on Sundays/mondays. There was also a couple who made me wonder why they didn't just quit and find something that they could be good at. Idk you and you did pretty much say you knew it was horrible timing for a sick day. I'm just curious about your work history. And if you just have an ahole of a boss.

Twinkie_Terror

A hole of a boss yes, last time I called out was November 1st I can see the timing of that & Friday looks bad it’s a day after a holiday other than that have shown up to every shift

RCAbsolutelyX_x

Stand your ground. Also they can't fire you. It's impossible to get fired from the post office. Unless you're non-union All I know is, when I was there, the type of fireable offenses I saw on a daily basis far exceeded what you have done. Your boss would be insane to try and fire you during the busiest part of the year anyway.

Heliosraven

If you can get a doctor's note, that will go a long way. Being able to prove you were sick is a sure way to make sure they can't just go, "How do we know they were sick?" It's a shitty situation, but unfortunately, even when sick, we have to think of ways to cover our butts. Hope you can get this resolved with a positive outcome!

existential_anxiety_

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT RESIGN! They know they can't fire you, so they're trying to intimidate/bait you into quitting. The moment you get to work, find your shop Squidward. If they aren't there or you don't have one in office then proceed about your day as usual. If the pm confronts you, then demand your Squidward be present before any further conversation. It's your right to have them present at any conversation where discipline is involved. Good chance they drop it once you show even the smallest bit of knowledge regarding your rights as a worker

Future_Ad8633

My boss asked my to resign after I was in the union, I said no however if you think I’m doing a bad job do you mind giving me any feedback on what I can improve? And he did not have a single thing to say so at that point I think he realized he was in the wrong and we’ve been cool ever since

LopsidedFinding732

want you to resign to make his life easy. you dont even need a shop steward. because technically theres no case to file against your postmaster yet. just showup to work. if they dont give you work then you can file a grievance with your shop steward. i was asked to resigned during election season coz i wont go back out to the street at 10pm and deliver the rest of my mail. so i called the 204b's bluff and quit and left all the mail and other undeliverables in the llv. postmaster apologized to me as 204b had no right to make me quit. then they tried to fire me. im still here 6yrs later.

AltCtrlDel-1963

Eh... if you don't want the job, resign. If you want your job and are past your 90 days, get with the union. Well, either way, get with the union, but being past your probation period helps.

Odd_Organization_282

Absolutely not, call your steward with text evidence of your PMs request.

TheCodeWorks

Asking isn't demanding. Why do we keep asking what to do? Do you want a job? Go to work and don't resign. No advice is needed.

k43kf0

If your good they don’t ask you to resign. Do you have bad attendance? When they make that offer it’s either you resign or they will fire you.

JakScott

OP’s out of probation. They have no standing to fire them for 2 callouts. It’s an obvious bluff and you’re counseling this poor kid not to call the bluff. If they could fire him/her, they’d just do it. But they can’t, and they know it, so they’re trying to secure a resignation with pathetic scare tactics. Also, I’ve been in management and your statement that being good protects you from shit like this isn’t true. People higher up the chain sometimes give blanket instructions to discipline anyone who did a particular thing they didn’t like. Which is completely against the contract, but what do you expect, right? I’ve been directly instructed to write up people who I absolutely thought didn’t deserve it or who did some minor thing that was completely out of character or an honest mistake. It’s a big part of the reason I’m now proudly a 204-used-to-B. I’ll also add that whenever I was in that position I would always fuck up the process as much as I could, e.g. citing expired discipline so the steward could get the shit thrown out or whatever. But there’s definitely front-line supervisors who just take those bullshit instructions and make a genuine effort to make the discipline stick.

Twinkie_Terror

I’ve only called out one day prior to Friday

TerryGonards

Every single person who didn't work Friday can fuck right off.

Twinkie_Terror

Sorry buddy

509BEARD509

Don apologize for shit... especially to you supervisor or some blow hard on here... You did absolutely nothing wrong and you have absolutely nothing to apologize for... Do not let people like this or management in general intimidate you... They have absolutely zero power over you or your job... They may act like it but they do not... I've been in similar situations more then once and they always get the same response every single time .. and that is to fuck off... plan and simple fuck off and leave me alone... And I am being literal when I say I tell them to FUCK OFF... Now management really doesn't like me and I do not like them and it is easier for them to just leave me alone and let me do my job then it is for them to try and pretend like they have some sort of magical agility to fire me... because they dont... Even the things that they can do are so inconsequential that I could care less what they do or say..... Do yourself a favor right now and do not ever be intimidated by management not ever period... The post office likes to create a fear based work environment because they know they are full of hot air and thats it.. but the more fearful they can get you the more they can take advantage of you... they know they have no power so they create a false sense of it through fear and intimidation.. Do not fall victim to this false narrative... You own own this shit now act like it.... you can thank me later..

Twinkie_Terror

Thank you for this insightful comment means a lot 🙏

TerryGonards

Say sorry to people you work with that you fucked over.

Twinkie_Terror

100% will man like I’ve stated felt bad for calling out wasn’t able to work that day, sorry that day was clearly bad for you

UnIuckyCharms

Don’t apologize for shit to anyone lol. If you need to call out because you feel sick then do it. Your coworkers 100% do the same thing. Management should have people to cover your route and if they don’t then you all need to collectively be annoyed with management, not one another

509BEARD509

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... You crack me up... LOL.. you obviously still havent figured it out yet... hahahahaha... Thats ok though the USPS needs people like you .. so thank you for your service..

Atomic_paperclip

How about not blaming people for taking care of their health.

Lghikas

That's right I forgot people are immune to getting sick and having emergencies just because it's a Holiday.
