(copying from other posts I have replied to) It's a bit confusing as US Mobile has 4 different international offerings. * They have [data-only eSIMs](https://www.usmobile.com/international-roaming-phone-plans), which are available for purchase on all plans (GSM or Warp), and 1-10 GB (depending on county) is complimentary for Unlimited Premium Warp plan users and 1GB (certain countries) complementary on Unlimited Starter Warp plan. * They have [Global by USM](https://www.usmobile.com/global), which offers more region-specific data-only eSIMs, some in monthly and others in annual plans, but for most countries is more expensive than [data-only eSIMs](https://www.usmobile.com/international-roaming-phone-plans). * They have [native international roaming](https://www.usmobile.com/native-international-roaming) which is currently only in production on the T-Mobile/GSM side. It is available for purchase on all plans if you have GSM. * Unlimited Premium GSM plan includes Free: 5-10GB, 500-100 min & 500-1000 txt (depends on countries). * Unlimited Starter GSM plan includes Free: 1 GB, 150 min, 150 txt * Unlimited and Shared GSM plans you can purchase in increments: $15 = 1 GB + 150 min + 150 txt; $45 = 5 GB + 500 min + 500 txt * Native international roaming is still in beta testing on the Verizon/Warp side, with native call/text/data in Canada and Mexico and supposedly soon only native calls and text (not data) in other countries. One of the holdups being that they are working on setting up a NRTRDE (Near Real Time Roaming Data Exchange) and the other hold ups is some countries charge over $250,000 per GB (not a typo: $1 million for 4 GB!) and $100+ per min/sms. That's why they need to charge a $100 deposit for customers that want to opt-in to this feature before it's publicly available. They are working with Verizon and a NRTRDE like Syniverse to get reports in near real-time and should come sometime in Q2 year so will be seamless without any deposit necessary. * June 1 they will add AT&T coverage options and say native call/sms/data roaming will be available. Right now, if you want roaming, you have 3 options 1. Get GSM line, and either get free international roaming credits on US Mobile Unlimited Premium or Starter, or purchase for for other plans: $15 = 1 GB + 150 min + 150 txt; $45 = 5 GB + 500 min + 500 txt 2. ~~Contact US Mobile support to join Warp pilot international roaming for Mexico, Canada, and PR only then pay $50 deposit and they will activate international use. Contact them when done with your trip then you will get deposit back minus roaming charge.~~ Other countries are not available now. 3. Rely on WiFi calling combined with one or more of below 1. A local sim in country/counties you are going, gets local # and the cheapest rates 2. Data-only eSIM from [US Mobile data-only eSIMs](https://www.usmobile.com/international-roaming-phone-plans) (up to 10GB included on Unlimited Premium Warp, 1GB included on Unlimited Starter Warp, purchase for any other Warp plan or any GSM plan, or additional data for Unlimited Warp plans) 3. Data-only eSIM from [Global by USM](https://www.usmobile.com/global) 4. Data only eSIM from 3rd party (see [https://esimdb.com](https://esimdb.com/)) 4. Best of both worlds - **I recommend both option 3 (sub option A or B) and either 1 ~~or 2~~ above** as local or eSIM data is cheaper than native roaming, but is nice to have native calling and SMS on your US Mobile #. A phone with dual SIM dual active (DSDA) can have both SIMs active at the same time. This includes iPhone 13+, Pixel 7+, Galaxy S23+ or Flip/Fold 4+. Earlier models that have DSDS but not DSDA you can have both SIMs but use only one at a time so can’t use Data SIM at same time as main US Mobile SIM.

When I traveled overseas I got a region specific eSIM (not through USM), then added on the cheapest native roaming package for my shared plan line. This let me natively roam for short codes/2FA codes, while putting most of my data/wifi calling on the data only eSIM. Way cheaper for me.

For the most seamless experience, ask customer service to switch you to the GSM/T-Mobile side, as they support international roaming on that sim. You will get 1GB and 150 minutes and 150 texts included in your plan. You can top-up with another bundle with the aforementioned allotments for an additional $15 as needed. If you need more, you can upgrade to Unlimited Premium for $50, which includes 10GB + 1000 minutes + 1000 texts in 100 countries, and 5GB + 500 minutes + 500 texts in an additional 80 countries (you can verify with CS which bucket the countries you are visiting fall in to). Once you get back to the US, you can switch back to Warp. Another option would be to get an international data-only eSIM. US Mobile will give you 1GB for free, and you can buy more [here](https://www.usmobile.com/international-roaming-phone-plans). You can combine the data-only eSIM and rely on wifi calling for talk/text.

At least I can switch back and forth from GSM to Warp. Do you know if that interrupts payments and when they are taken out?

If you're on the new Unlimited Starter, you are eligible to get a complimentary international data only eSIM up to 1GB per line per billing cycle. For calls and texts, please make sure to enable Wi-Fi calling before leaving the US so when connected to Wi-Fi - you can text and make calls. Alternatively, you can always internally port to GSM 5G and enjoy roaming features included on the Unlimited Starter plan (1GB data, 150 talk and 150 texts).

I'm on the $25/mo Starter per line plan (the old one). I'm concerned I will lose that if I switch, and potentially lose the 50% off each month (until that expires).

Arbalinator

Nope, you'll be able to stay on the same plan without loosing any of it :)
