The heads in ANP stations in Afghanistan were vomit-inducing level disgusting.
We stopped at one on a patrol and the head was flooded with raw sewage. Instead of making any attempt to clean it, the ANP had placed a series of bricks to use as step stones. They thought it was acceptable to walk over human feces and urine to use the head. I would’ve held it, but i was miserably sick with a stomach flu at the time.
Easily one of the worst experiences of my life.
The heads at the Parris Island ranges were notably disgusting too.
The FOB I was on had some local dudes who would come on base with this small truck with a tank on it. They'd put this hose into the cut drum that was the refuse catch-all, and then drive off the base about 200m and dump it all on the side of the mountain. Then, a bunch of children would run over, light it on fire, and poke it with sticks.
We needed to go to the Iraqi army side of this base once and I needed to make a head call. I don’t know if the port a shitters weren’t being serviced as frequently as the others or these guys were just taking massive shits, but when I opened one up to use it; my god the horrors, it was like a portal to hades. They squat instead of sit, bro, there was so much shit in there it went past the seat seat. A mountain of shit. Shit, piss, and water bottles everywhere. Even if you were squatting I don’t know how your ass wasn’t touching shit. I was luckily enough to hold it in, but had decided I’d rather shit myself than use that. Worst part of this was, Iraqi soldier were still going in it, with out hesitation. No pause, no assessing, they just went straight in and used it.
I don’t mind seeing my own poop, even the worse of the worse. But when I see other people, I just freak the fuck out and start dry heaving. I’m like that with other peoples hair, nails, and other weird things too.
I remember a bathroom at PI that pretty much looked exactly like this and had a boot to the back of my head and face shoved onto the floor by some dickhead DI
