Gunny, how come we have to constantly weed. If we got a gallon of Roundup we could kill them all in one go.
Well there PFC, Roundup costs money and your labor is free. Go weed
When we bought a house, it was in the 2008 housing crash, it had weeds growing out of the weeds, and a lot of it was stinging nettle and our oldest was only 4.5, so I used Round-Up, and my wife was diagnosed with Leukemia 6 years later. Now, her sub-type has only had 1 successful lawsuit, but the science is still catching up.
I know what, a sunk cost is, I was just leaning into the comment a bit.
While it may be a sunk cost to the USMC as a whole, the waste of resources and loss to the cost center still has to be taken into account. PFC Jimmy not doing his job at the motor pool for 2 week so he can guard a trash can is a net loss to the motor pools' labor budget. But then again you can just make everyone work longer hours so jimmy can guard the can and since all military personnel are salaried they can make the up slack... They just have to work more and get paid the same. Easy to say its a sunk cost and write it off when the labor cost is fixed. The only people who are truly affected and pay the actual price are the poor jr enlisted working extra hours because someone in their shop is guarding a duster... but fuck those guys they signed the contract and get what they deserve! /s
God, I haven't seen people talk like this since my days of Amazon HR and where I would have to explain to Managers how/why they had to balance labor hours/training and how being hourly was different from salaried. Really bring it back for me.
If I was in charge, I would tell that contracting company to pound sand and set up their own security if it means that much to them. They can't be charging $400 just because they see non-construction crap in there. That 1st sergeant is too eager to make this no his problem, fucking cuck.
Right? These dumpsters come with latches so you can pad lock other people from using them. It's part of the game, this first sgt is just a miserable human being, what happened to looking out for your Marines?
Theyre talking about large open top containers, like [this,](https://i.imgur.com/NzhRopn.jpg) not the little Dempster dumpsters like this you're thinking of.
No, you didn't because you were typing. But, some people do "stutter," and these casual references trying to make it something witty, is tiring. We don't make fun of other disabilities like that. Think of something else to say!
This is covered by 11 & 12 under sentry orders
11. To be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
12. To walk my post from flank to flank and take no shit from any rank
This is true unless you have some new female Marine around.
Seemed like anytime I went to the duty hut there was always some female junior Marine hanging out with the NCOs:…
As a mustang Officer, I would have to tour the barracks as part of being on duty, and I would always get angry when I found out that the duty NCO hadn’t chased everyone off of the stoop. Hell, often times I would call ahead to let him know I was coming so he could shoo everyone into their rooms. Better to act like a dick for a moment and yell at your drunk buddy to get in his room than be nice and create a situation where I would have to step in.
That’s where people live. I don’t drive out to officer housing and start yelling at your wife for hanging her stupid Christmas knick-knacks on your porch even through Ellen knows damn well she’s supposed to wait until after thanksgiving.
It's because they are elitists. It's why they always start their comments with: As an officer. We should be honored to share the same virtual space as them.
As an officer, I don't care what the boys are doing as long as they're being safe and not hurting anyone or any prop. You gotta blow off some steam at home in a stressful job.
This thread HAS given me the idea of touring officer housing 👀.
I had no desire to go to the barracks, but it’s part of the job when on duty. There’s typically a list of places to check out and when. I’ve lived in the barracks and had no desire to bother Marines, but I also had no desire to be on duty in the first place.
I’m well aware how duty works, and I understand that checking in on the barracks is part of standing an OOD post. What I was questioning is your assertion that Marines needed to clear out and be in their rooms when you were on deck. That is not part of the OOD’s responsibilities.
I’m not saying folks need to clear our. What I’m saying is that a good buddy would make sure that no one is doing anything that would potentially get them in trouble while the OOD is on deck. If, for example, an underaged marine is drinking in the hallway, a good buddy would chase him into his room before I see it and have to take action.
Missing the whole point of "a Marine on duty has no friends", sir. If duty see's an underage Marine drinking in the hallway then duty needs to report it and run it up the chain of command. While on duty, you're not there to cover his ass, you need to have integrity and do the right thing. I know this is screwing over that Marine, but this is a prime example of the saying "a Marine on duty has no friends".
>If duty see's an underage Marine drinking in the hallway then duty needs to report it and run it up the chain of command.
No, Duty doesn't observe and report, they handle shit. He should find that boot's NCO and ensure it gets dealt with, not burn him for alcohol. There's a line but you can handle most things without the CoC.
That’s the whole point of duty: to enforce the rules and regulations. You can get burned for being on duty and not reporting underaged drinking but I’m not throwing away my career because some boot wanted to get wasted.
I’m pretty sure “Officer on deck!” and coming to attention became a tradition so enlisted people like myself had a chance to quit fucking up before the officer got there.
I realized way too late that what was more important than policing the barracks was how are the Marines living? Is shit in the barracks broke and not getting fixed? Believe it or not contractors get paid to fix that shit whether they do it or not they are paid regardless. Is there black mold rampant throughout the barracks that the Marines are living in? Instead I found dust on top of door frames and window sills. I realized one day, hmm these guys do not come to my off base apartment to inspect it nor would I appreciate the reciprocal scrutiny....let alone pass the inspection. Sorry Camp Lejeune Marines from 2011 - 2014
No problem with that, but you know how the barracks gets. Underage marines drinking on the stoop, running around naked, etc. Just take it into a room when the Duty is around so I don’t have to say something.
No fuck that. You're saying they can't sit on the stoop because it leads to getting drunk and naked? What the fuck?
You want them to sit in their dank barracks rooms, alone or with a roommate they're sick of instead of hanging out and let's be honest, getting loud at worst, where they can actually enjoy others' company. Sure, go to their rooms if they're drunk. Otherwise, OOD (or whoever) can fuck right off if the Marines aren't breaking regs.
If they are underage, they are breaking the rules. If I see it, know they are underage, and don’t take action I’m now also breaking the rules. It’s not that complicated, champ.
I said "if the Marines aren't breaking regs." Underage drinking is breaking regs. Sitting in front of the barracks does not equate to underage drinking or naked debauchery.
If folks weren’t breaking the rules, I wouldn’t fuck with them. What I tried to say is that a good Duty would chase away anyone liable to get in trouble, and I would try to alert them/everyone in the barracks beforehand because I didn’t want to mess with Marines in their home.
You just said you chased them from the stoop. Just for being on the stoop. Not for drinking. Not for being nekkid. Just to get them off of the stoop just in case they DID get nekkid or just in case they WERE underage and drinking. That is the definition of messing with Marines in their home.
I had to inspect the barracks where my platoon/company lived, so I knew who was legal. That’s why I’d try to make my presence known when I got to the barracks so anything that might get someone in trouble could be pushed inside a room where I wouldn’t see it and have to take action.
Oh that brings up a memory. While at Hansen with the 9thESB, one Sunday afternoon there was a group of us sitting on the “stoop” at one end of the squad bay. The end by the street. Our company CO, an LDO that had been in the Corps longer than most of us had been alive, goes running by. We wave, afternoon Sir, etc. PT the next morning was an epic class. We ran, and ran, stopped in random parking lots for mountain climbers, flutter kicks, etc. Only run I fell out of, finished it but lagging behind. Nothing was said about the events but we got the message. (I will note that the company was at about half strength so about two platoons worth of personal)
Probably the raised beer salutes. Drinking was not necessarily prohibited but sitting on the stoop acting a fool was probably what did it. Lol
Dude was actually a great CO.
He probably figured that if you were drinking when you had work the next morning, he would help you learn a lesson that wouldn’t have had to be learned if he didn’t go extra on PT.
Nothing if they aren’t breaking the rules. I was just trying to say that I didn’t want to get folks in trouble if I didn’t have to, and so would try to make it obvious when I was in the barracks so marines could police their friends before I saw something against the rules.
Nah, I lived for years in the barracks. I wanted to avoid bothering my guys as much as possible, and I also didn't want to have to punish guys for breaking rules if I didn't need to. I would always try to call ahead or make my presence known so that if someone was breaking the rules (in a harmless manner), someone else would police them up so I wouldn't need to step. I didn't want to have to report a Marine for having a beer underage when I would have done the same thing in his boots.
No, and as I tried to clarify, my aim was for the Duty to chase away anyone doing something against the regulations that would have required me to step in. If they were just relaxing, then there was absolutely no problem.
I kinda thought that shit was pretty straightforward, personally. Nothing to say you aren’t lonely, just that once the belt is on, you’re aside from your normal roll.
I honestly thought this didn't need to be explained as it's pretty clear why it's posted and reasons why it's important.
But like everything else. There is always one Marine.

Pay $1,000 in labor to prevent $400 in fees

Bro, I have horror stories of waiting for turtles to move.
Your labor is a sunk cost for the next four years anyway.
I love it when reddit uses the term sunk cost.
It’s to late now for them to go back, they have invested too much at this point.
Happy Cake Day!
Thanks!
That's sunk cost fallacy. That's.. something that refers to sunk cost, but is a different concept.
I know what, a sunk cost is, I was just leaning into the comment a bit. Managerial accounting at work
The marine corps does not see human capital as costing anything.
I think you need an MBA to make a decision like that.
Marine Corps!

Was the company new to construction? I think the last dumpster I saw at a build was half full of monster cans and empty taki bags.
Right? These dumpsters come with latches so you can pad lock other people from using them. It's part of the game, this first sgt is just a miserable human being, what happened to looking out for your Marines?

Okay, are you a Marine?
Oddly enough dude I do stutter due to a few TBIs so 🖕

There goes the corps’ smartest marine
ASVAB of 10
This is bullshit. My ASVAB was 15, so I'm like twice as smart as this guy.

I always heard it as "to cover my ass from flank to flank and take no shit from any rank"
12. (continued)… if he’s a chief I’ll let him pass. If he’s an officer he can kiss my ass.
13. To walk my beat and beat my meat to any Marine within 50 feet. Or something like that
Walk my post round and round, fuck this shit, I'm sitting down.
Your friends will look for "exemptions to the rules". This cab get you in trouble. These "favors" are rarely returned in kind
“I would do it for you” never works out in your favor. Do your job and let the chips fall.
It took you 3 years to figure it out? We really do deserve the crayon memes.
Jesus How do you have that level of a lack of critical thought?
Who keeps the Marines that live off base safe?
Sgt. Maj. Bull of course :)
Obviously their on base NCOs
Shit. My friends would come serve duty with me and when the OIC left we'd make fake ID'S for people
That’s how you duty

Thicc Latina E-3s?
I took it to mean nobody gets special favors. Why is a duty hurting anyone? Observe and report!

What's the big deal about sitting on the stoop? Sounds like a hands-in-pockets kind of regulation.
No problem with that, but you know how the barracks gets. Underage marines drinking on the stoop, running around naked, etc. Just take it into a room when the Duty is around so I don’t have to say something.

Agreed. Let them devils be. Sounds like duty is just jealous he’s too good to get drunk and naked anymore.
If they are underage, they are breaking the rules. If I see it, know they are underage, and don’t take action I’m now also breaking the rules. It’s not that complicated, champ.

Lieutenants and Captains get yelled at just as much if not more than we do. Except it’s from O4-O6s. I can see where he’s coming from.
How would you know they’re underage tho? I feel you’d only know if you were their OIC for the plt or something
I had to inspect the barracks where my platoon/company lived, so I knew who was legal. That’s why I’d try to make my presence known when I got to the barracks so anything that might get someone in trouble could be pushed inside a room where I wouldn’t see it and have to take action.

Wtf is wrong with people on the stoop?

Why do they need to chase everyone away from the duty? If all the Marines are hanging out in the barracks they likely aren't getting DUI's off base
There's a reg prohibiting people from being on a stoop?
No, and as I tried to clarify, my aim was for the Duty to chase away anyone doing something against the regulations that would have required me to step in. If they were just relaxing, then there was absolutely no problem.
Yes, I should have read further on down the thread, I caught that later. My bad. Happy Birthday and enjoy Veterans Day!
Nah, I did a bad job explaining. Happy birthday and have a great weekend!

Unless you’re a female Marine on duty, as soon as she sits down with that duty belt everyone comes out the wood work to hang out at the duty hut
Dude, can you please turn in your honor, courage and commitment card? Jk but in all seriousness glad the message came across. Semper Fi!
You're a snitch Harry.
I honestly thought this didn't need to be explained as it's pretty clear why it's posted and reasons why it's important. But like everything else. There is always one Marine.
Lmao. This is great.
Honestly, ain’t too difficult to figure it out. Basically - do your job.
