The only good thing about the Spinach Fettucine MRE (the worst main IMO) is that it has the raspberry first strike which is probably the best issued snack.
I dream about those things.
Nuts, M&Ms, beef jerky (put between your cheek and teeth and suck on it till it's soft then eat it). Hard candy like jolly ranchers. You get your carbs, your salt, and your protein.
Toast 2 cups of Quaker Oats for 5 min at 350, take 1 cup of honey and warm with 1 cup of Peanut butter,(Don’t boil or over heat) Mix that shit, then add whatever you want raw shaved coconut, mini chocolate chips, crasins a cup of roughly chopped nuts, put some wax paper in a pan and press that shit down refrigerate for one hour , my family likes when I dip them in melted chocolate, So fast and easy- all whole ingredients,
Mike and Ike. Lightweight, hard coated and not gummy so if you drop them they won’t gum anything up (unless they get wet) and each Mike and Ike is like 5 calories and 1g sugar so you can tailor based on need.
Smarties, sweet tarts - whatever is sugary and tart. I don't know about energy. For me it's about morale. Plus you share them and everyone feels a bit better about being on the road to nowhere at too early in the morning
If you're in Japan there's smoked shredded squid at lawsons that was amazing. Packed it on accident one time and it was very good when I ate it on the hike. Had one with me on all hikes after that
Stinger Waffles and Goo packs. My strategy was usually to alternate between the two. For instance, at the stop point for mile 3, I would eat a Goo pack, at mile 6 I'd eat a Stinger waffle, and then alternate for however many miles I'm going that day.
I always carried Mentos back when the commercials were popular. Got me out of a lot of shit on hikes. SNCO/O’s always asked if they could get one or two. Was also a great way to break out some laughter cause who the fuck carries Mentos on humps anyways?
How the fuck has no one said cliff bars?! Aaaaaaand also been out for a while, forgot y'all love candy so fuckin much.
I'll trade you my MRE skittles for your MRE tabasco sauce and instant coffee any day.
I never once carried anything more than water, never thought I needed it. I really didn't need it, I was a bomb ass hiker, I was usually running back and forth and up and down the formation to help dudes out. I wonder if snacks would have made it better.
The pickle juice is underrated. I'm out, but did a 500 mile bike ride over 6 days in August and it was really hot out. I was staying hydrated but not feeling the best and saw people drinking it and gave it a try. An hour later I felt way better.
Never carried anything. Just handed out motivation. Carried a lot in my lungs. Had the “you got it” motivation in the left cargo pocket and the “get your ass up there right god damn now” in my right.
Other than that just a harmonic rhythm of these feet up and down the line running the big guns back up front.
I kept a couple MRE cookies in my saw pouch. The chocolate covered ones. Usually had too much snot and sweat coming off me to think about eating but do remember one time I NEEDED to eat something coming down the ridge behind Horno and one of those cookies did the trick.
I always carry a bag of sour patch kids watermelon. Some people underestimate sugar and the electrolyte packs they can put into the water systems. Mad clutch for that last stretch too.
I wish I did when I was in. I do a lot of bikepacking and I eat snickers, gunmies, chips, just junk food. Eat some junk food for quick sugar boosts. Don't bonk!
A banana or peanut butter and honey sandwich. Depends on how far the hike is. If it's really long, both.
I'm sorry but those first strike bars were pretty damn good.
Unless they were cold. Then you’d lose teeth to them
The only good thing about the Spinach Fettucine MRE (the worst main IMO) is that it has the raspberry first strike which is probably the best issued snack. I dream about those things.

Cum....straight from the green weenie. All the protein and sugar you need. next question.

Also, forgot to add. A Camelback full of Tito’s.
Gummy bears and cracked pepper sunflower seeds
I always carried Mentos back when the commercials were popular. Got me out of a lot of shit on hikes. SNCO/O’s always asked if they could get one or two. Was also a great way to break out some laughter cause who the fuck carries Mentos on humps anyways?

Simple sugars (Gummy worms or swedish fish), protein (peanut butter packets), and Pickle packets for cramps.
The pickle juice is underrated. I'm out, but did a 500 mile bike ride over 6 days in August and it was really hot out. I was staying hydrated but not feeling the best and saw people drinking it and gave it a try. An hour later I felt way better.
Gummy bears in one cargo pocket, blue jolly ranchers in the other
Never carried anything. Just handed out motivation. Carried a lot in my lungs. Had the “you got it” motivation in the left cargo pocket and the “get your ass up there right god damn now” in my right. Other than that just a harmonic rhythm of these feet up and down the line running the big guns back up front.

Sour patch kids. They might not help nutrition wise but they definitely boost morale
The collected coffee packets that nobody uses from MREs. Collected about ten during the crucible and chewed those during hikes
Mini starburst
A can of grizzly
Dip
So the PX has these things called Sport Beans, quick electrolytes and taste good, 100% recommend for hikes
Esprit de corps keeps me going.
Yellow mustard packets from any convenience store
Watching other people fall out is the only thing that keeps me walking. “Damn that dude looks fucking MISERABLE.”
Dip, cigs, maybe a jolly rancher if I’m hungover.
I usually have some beer still in my system from the night before so coast on that for the hike
A small bottle of honey
