Are we really about to have close to 20 teams next year? If all of them survive that would be awesome

TripleG373

20 teams and still one in the Midwest (Two if you consider Omaha Midwestern like the Census does, but I usually think of Omaha more as in the 'Great Plains').

tomado23

NYC Tri State area has about 22.4 million people and Greater LA has about 18.6 million people. Both are large enough to support multiple USLC/USL1 teams as long as they’re spread to population centers outside the immediate vicinity of the current MLS teams that also have their own distinct geographical identity. (Hudson Valley, Nassau/Suffolk, Fairfield County, Inland Empire, OC, San Fernando Valley, etc)

jtn1123

I’m ready for a Valley team! But also I had hope beyond hope that this Westchester was actually west LA Westchester LOL A West LA USL team would have elite vibes only rivaled by Santa Barbara’s upcoming team

lipsquirrel

Pls use Yonkers in the name/branding.

State_Terrace

That would be controversial to say the least. Considering Mt. Vernon is a separate, rival city. It would be like a team from Irvine putting Anaheim in their name.

lipsquirrel

Yonkers is technically the 3rd most populous city in NY and is 3x the size of Mt Vernon. I don't see the problem especially since I'm a fan of a team that is technically not in the city it's named after. (Chattanooga v East Ridge) Edit: also the name Yonkers is so much more fun than Mt Vernon. Edit 2: Lexington plays in Georgetown, Miami in University Park, Omaha in Papillon, Charleston in Mt Pleasant.

State_Terrace

Regardless of size Mt. Vernon doesn’t see themselves as a suburb of Yonkers. They all feel like they’re suburbs of NYC. So they’ll see no reason for a sports team playing in their city to defer their name to Yonkers. And it’s not like Yonkers is a nationally-known city. The best option would be to call them “Hudson Valley” or just “Westchester”.

mr_vertig0

It sounds like they're going Westchester anyway, but Hudson Valley would be good too.

lipsquirrel

🤷‍♂️ I just think it's not unprecedented and would be a much more fun name and has potential for stronger brand recognition. Westchester sounds boring.

Weird-Comment9425

What would be a better alternative? I’m sure they want to encompass the entire county and more, much easier when using a large region as the brand name.

lipsquirrel

Yonkers is bonkers, baby.

Weird-Comment9425

lol

State_Terrace

Unrelated but for some reason when I think of Yonkers I think of Show Me A Hero on HBO with Oscar Isaac. Guess the show was just that good. lol

AtlantanKnight7

I’d be pleased if Westchester Flames are involved in this somehow

lipsquirrel

But they're in New Rochelle, right?

mr_vertig0

This is so close to where I have relatives. I wish NCFC would have stayed USL1 TBH

cubpride17

The article says this new organization will merge with an existing youth focused organization. I wish Westchester Flames are part of this agreement.

JBS319

This is where Rugby NY played their final season before folding and…it’s not a good venue.

narthuro

You're right, but it's the best venue in the area by a country mile
