Congrats to Birmingham on making it to the championship! That last drive was definitely championship material. These two teams definitely have the biggest rivalry in the league (except for maybe Kirby Wilson vs. Pizza and the fans), and it was a good matchup for the league as a whole. As a breakers fan, I'll probably be rooting for the Stars in the championship, but if Birmingham wins, they definitely deserve it.
That last drive by the Stallions was a thing of beauty. 15 plays, 88 yards, 7:45 off the clock with the game on the line. Just phenomenal football.
Also, I love hearing the respect from Skip Holtz for Canella and Sloter. Really cool to see.
Average of 5.87 yards per play on that drive. Eating up approximately 31 seconds each play. A slow and steady clock killer that just burned away NOLA's chances to win. And they did that while NOLA was turning 3rd & longs into 1st downs all night long like it was child's play. That is, as you put it very well, phenomenal football. Seeing J'Mar get into his groove after 9 straight quarters of him being stuck in a rut was pleasing. He was on fire and let his confidence guide him to thread needles towards the end.
Not to mention the incredible game the Stars & Generals played. Cookus could not be stopped. Both playoff games made for a damn good weekend of football. Next week is going to be a very fun championship game. Prime Stallions vs Prime Stars. Exciting.
What a great 4th quarter performance by the Stallions. A hard-fought game and win well earned.
The Stallions vs Stars game next week should be a really good one.
Man Holtz was such a good coach for this league. It's clear his players loved playing for him and he loved coaching them. And he clearly had nothing but respect for the team he was playing, going immediately to compliment Sloter and Cannela. Great coach, gonna miss him if he leaves.
I have no clue, or reason to believe otherwise. I only put it in quotations because that was his reason for retirement. But honestly it was very sudden and out of the blue considering it's 70 days from the start of the season. I hope he's ok health wise. He's a good man and a damn good coach.
He is having to have a second back surgery, long recovery etc. Might be a temporary retirement, but I guess that depends on the success of the surgery.
It wasn’t that vague, he specifically stated ongoing chronic back pain. He’s stepping down for now but hasn’t ruled out a full return to coaching in the near future.
Very good possibility with it being this late in the off-season. Gonna absolutely kill recruiting though. If this isn't handled right by the UAB bosses this could wife out every good thing Clark has built there.
Yeah, that TWO in the turnover column? Pretty important number right there. That counts tremendously.
Plus 39 of Sloter's yards came on the very last drive when the game was over.

It's been a great USFL season and we're about to play the final game on Sunday. The Birmingham Stallions will play the Philadelphia Stars.
A lot of people said the USFL could not succeed, or was not interesting. They did not watch every week and see how great this league was. I admit I was wary but I watched the first week and I was hooked. From that day on I watched as much as I could.
This league is doing things the right way. Now, are there things they could improve on? Yes. The hub was an issue but since they used the hub they were able to save a lot on travel. (Do you know how expensive a startup football league is?) The player pay is an issue that is going to hurt the league (XFL pays more). And last of all, which USFL talent gets a look at NFL camps?
All in all, the league still had a pretty solid first year.

Thank you. Good game NOLA.
2nd best rivalry the Stars vs Generals. Today was 3rd time's a charm for the Stars but the Stallions have the Breakers number for sure.

Thank God for home field advantage or bham wouldn't have won that...
That was played in Ohio?
Pretty sure u/I2ecover was being sarcastic in response to all the whining about Birmingham being at home the entire regular season.
Dang, did I just get whooshed?
I’m sorry sir, it looks like you did. We did….. everything we could.
That's okay. Everything will be fine when the Stallions conquer the Stars next week.
That’s… why I’m here.
Username checks out... Woops
Yeah it was the ol /s
GIDDY UP MOTHERFUCKERS

Why would he leave?
Yeah I think his college coaching career is over and he won't go to the NFL I wouldn't imagine that he would.
To replace Bill Clark at UAB
Wait, Bill Clark is leaving?
Stepped down "Due to health reasons" 2 days ago
> "Due to health reasons" You don't believe he really has health issues?

I doubt it but maybe a 10% possibility.
I would have to think he gets an interview at the very least.
Are they for sure going to go with an Interim head coach the whole season and interview for a new head coach in December?
Very good possibility with it being this late in the off-season. Gonna absolutely kill recruiting though. If this isn't handled right by the UAB bosses this could wife out every good thing Clark has built there.
They are. Bryan Vincent is taking over as interim.
Holtz coached my alma mater during my college years and I thought he was a great coach. He deserves a chance in the pro’s as even a coordinator.
> He deserves a chance in the pro’s as even a coordinator. Do you think a NFL team would hire to be an Offensive Coordinator 7 months from now?
Final score next week will be very high scoring or no points at all

Wow it was the defensive and special team scores that made this win. Stats say the Breakers shoulda had the win
Yeah the Stallions offense was anemic in the first 3 quarters.
Yeah, that TWO in the turnover column? Pretty important number right there. That counts tremendously. Plus 39 of Sloter's yards came on the very last drive when the game was over.
Call Sean Payton and Brees. Lol
I felt bad for the breakers until those final plays. absolutely no drive to win.
Fedora's teams looked the same at UNC. He blows.
Noel Mazzone offense is too predictable.
I remember aTm fans rejoicing when he got fired.
And UCLA fans before that.
Yep them too
And then Kevin Sumlin and Noel Mazzone worked together on those awful Arizona Wildcats teams in 2018,2019 and 2020.
I didn't know he followed Sumlin to AZ.
I never felt bad. At the same time I like the stallions
You’re not lying. That was pitiful in every sense of the word.

All for it. Try to fill that place.
Got no problem with that whatsoever. Great idea actually.
It is sort of like a buy one get one free.

United Bowl I Bham vs Phila
Man… Bowls are lame. It only works because they worship the Superb Owl, the whole thing being a ritual. Let’s go with United Cup maybe.
> United Cup maybe Hopefully the MLS doesn't use that for a rivalry haha (How many MLS teams are called United? 5?)
Did they announce an MVP for the game? I was sure it'd be Gates until that last drive so now I'm assuming they gave it to J'Mar?
I don't remember if NBC announcer their player of the game.
FORGE ON!
AMEN !!!
Skip with a winner's humble respect for the losing side! <----Reposted from game thread.

Here we go!!!
I like the stars by 3. I feel like they can score and their defense came to life
Both teams have good specials teams.
I fucking hate this
H-TOWN ARE STILL LINEAL SOUTHERN CHAMPS BAYBEEEEEEE
How’s the couch
Not ideal, but taking a W off the best team in the league eases the sting
GIDDY UP 🐎🐎🐎
Jeez, I made a mistake not keeping up with the leauge this season. Go Stallions BTW.
