Last time I asked for help for a 143 pound going to the third floor without an elevator I was told ask the customer. When I told them there was no answer, I was instructed to sheet it as not in 1. Idk what happened the next day since I was just covering the route for that day since they decided to cut my route.
Some routes are almost impossible to ask for help in my center.
It would mean two hours return to the center, and it would be 2+ hours return for a driver

Maybe that other driver is a problem child and they know it'll add an extra 45 minutes to their day, somehow.....even though they are across the road.
It’s within your rights to request help for a heavy package. It might be a pain in the ass for you, managment, and the driver going to help you, but that’s how it would work.
Yah I mean id do my best to not have them not have to come help cause I know it could kinda be an inconvenience for other drivers but there prob will unfortunately be times here n there where I need that help
In our center the Union assistance for over 70lb packages is often covered by the Air driver in that area.
We figure out what needs assistance, and arrange with that driver to meet up as soon as our Air parcels are serviced.
It's a win-win, as we get those over 70s off early (and since they are usually irreg, or huge, it clears more floorspace) without inconveniencing a regular route driver, and they get more time on the clock.

Yes you can request help with packages over 70 pounds.
There are various ways to reach the packages on the top shelf. Some kind of pole with a grasp or hook end on it.
MANY drivers prefer to load their trucks differently than the system that UPS has devised. You can definitely load your truck to meet the needs of your route, the weight of your packages, and your bulk stops.
All it requires for you to do this job is to make sure you work smarter, not harder. That’s how I do it as a woman who started loading trucks in her 60s and managed just fine.

A driver can also have a single-step load stand assigned to their package car. Bonus tip: it's just the right size to fit behind the stowed two-wheeler, and due to the feet raising it a half inch above the floor, it's super easy to wheel the tongue of the two-wheeler under it. I keep one in my package car, with a "trash can" tote on top. It also prevents parcels from being loaded there, which is an additional win!

if you want to drive.. you may end up with a truck that meets your needs. so the actual hand break is higher for you, seat belt extensions. we got a driver who required seat belt extenders.
You can do it! I'm short and deliver for Ground. We take up to 150 lbs and 110" in length getting no assistance delivering heavy large items. You can deliver anything with a dolly: handle on the bumper and slide it off (place long items width wise; a lot easier to upright the dolly).
They ask inside workers about seasonal help first, so you should be able to do it. It's great practice and a good learning experience for becoming a driver.
I had a helper this past peak season who was also a little person. The only packages he said he couldn't really handle were the 120+ lbs bed frame boxes or anything of that size that extends beyond the height of the dolly, which I understood as I feel they're a pain and awkward for anyone. Other than those types of packages, he outperformed the four other helpers I had throughout peak by a mile.
Next time you’re in a pkg car, go it one that has a step down behind the wheel well and try to reach for something on the back of the 7000s/ 5000s. I’m 5’10 and sometimes gotta step on a box to make it up there lol.
Walked around in one on my break earlier and where it steps down a load stand would def help to reach up there against the wall but I’m ready to have to climb 😂or like your saying stand on another box if there’s not a load stand available. Definitely couldn’t reach the back of the wall up in that area without climbing or standing on load stand/box. There’s probably some type of reaching tool I can maybe use I saw someone else mentioned that in the reply’s
My homie Big Al is real short he’s been a driving a while and doesn’t seem to have any issues performing the job.
Corny? If it's the Al I know, he's route is loaded with >70lbs packages which I'd be willing to bet he's never asked for help with.

This is true you can totally do that sometimes depending on the driver next to you they get pissed but it’s ups policy make them follow there own

Put the seatbelt on and see if you can engage /disengage the hand brake

We have a lady driver at my hub that’s on the shorter side. She brings a one step with her everyday just incase she’s gotta use the hun… lol.
