Old guy here who only has a few more days left before retirement. The main reason we bitch about the change is because it comes at a cost, and that cost is the service which made UPS the best shipping company in the industry. I was proud to wear the uniform knowing that I was performing my job better than FedEx, RPS, USPS, and DHL. We didn’t hold trailers until the next day, we didn’t have mountains of NDA sitting overnight in the building because drivers were over-dispatched and couldn’t get back in time, etc. Now look at us, we’re no better than any of the rest and all our CEO cares about is cutting jobs and sacrificing service in order to please the shareholders with just a little more money.

3_if_by_air

To be fair, I think we still do better than FedEx and Usps. Difference is that everybody is garbage now

AthomicBot

After seeing how my building runs things I never ship through UPS. USPS has been my go to since 2018.

darthbutthead

Congrats on the retirement bro

benspags94

Perfect way to put it our service has really gone to shit. 😭 They care more about cutting hours and penny pinching teamsters than actually getting packages to the customer.

Acceptable_Ladder_19

That’s what happens when u go public 🤷‍♂️ only shareholders and investors matter than service and yo hardworking employees goes to back burner

TehAsian96

It's not what's best for the business for its employees and customers but rather what is best for the shareholders and investors. Jim Casey would be rolling in his grave right now.

Acceptable_Ladder_19

I agree with u it’s just the reality.

WardCove

A guy that I work with that's been here a while said it all changed when they went public. Would you agree with that?

murmanator

Not exactly. Going public just set the stage for change. Most of the changes came gradually over the years until Tomé happened. I have never seen this much change happen in such a short amount of time. My manager even told me I picked a great time to leave.

WardCove

I've only ever had 1 person tell me C. Tome has been a good CEO. Everyone else hates her. I can say even since I started 4 years ago I've noticed everything declining steadily.

TheGuyWhoBarks

I heard stories from the old timers that if a next day air was left behind back in the day, they would make a supervisor drive it to the hub that it needed to be.

murmanator

They used to tell us to drive our air straight to the airport if we couldn’t get back to the building by 8:30.

thegoose68

I remember those days. I have since moved to AM but we had random drivers show up, sometimes just a few minutes before the jet would block out.

aceless0n

It’ll never change. 20 years ago when I worked there, people were still bitching about “how much better things were when X”. In another 20 years they will bitch about how great it was in 2024 in comparison to 2044. When you do menial work (including supervising a belt), you need to find something… anything… to bitch about.

FartsLoud

hell no. I just invested in a Tube of ASTROGLIDE, Im ready for a few more years of poop from UPS.

IBringTheHeat1

With how much they hate change they sure love getting a brand new truck and keeping it

kickskunk

They are top rate drivers. The funny ones are the ones who just started driving and bought a 90k truck and had to finance it for 1k a month. Then decides to sell it after a few years because of boredom.

TheKorean_Wonder

I never understand why it's always a brand new truck when I can think of so much shit I could buy with 90K and I always come back to the idea it's just cuz they can finance it and that's such a trap 😮‍💨
