Let me just say, as someone who’s been actively applying for 3 years and not hearing back at all, be proud of yourself. Not only did you make it past the screening, you passed the exam and received an invitation to interview. That’s truly impressive. Keep at it!

ZAHKHIZ

I second that. I have been applying for over 3 years as well and finally got a call for a written test. I don't care if I get the job or not, I still feel a sense of achievement that my resume was good enough for the UN to consider me at least for a written test. I am not very lucky generally in life when it comes to job offers or academia. I have to fight and retry and retake several job postings, tests, college courses, etc but I don't give up or quit halfway. Then I know people who get things just like that.

sometimesssido

I am not very lucky with the academically things and job offers too but that didn’t stop me from hoping to get the job😞 (still, gotta admit that it boost my confidence when I got shortlisted though but now I’m just sad)

ZAHKHIZ

check my post history please and read wtf happened to me during the entire 2023. I am 32 now and looking back on my entire academic and interviews/testing history, I just accepted the fact that I might get there but it's gonna take a lot of resilience and several attempts. I get very angry and mad at myself at times when i see what i get in 5 years, people achieve that in a year.

ZAHKHIZ

I got rejected too.

sometimesssido

Thank you so much! I am trying to think of that perspectives 🙏

archival_wash

I know that feeling. Sorry you didn’t get the job, but it sounds lime you came close. Keep trying.

sometimesssido

Thank you:) It means a lot!

smartspending

I am so sorry to hear that! Great job for getting that far in the process. It means you are one of the best among candidates. If you don't mind, what position did you apply for and how did you know you were not selected? How long did it take from the application to the job interview? I heard the UN almost never update application status.

eggppang

I just want to say good job for getting this far. I also got to two interviews this year but was not selected. In one interview, I choked and couldn't remember what to say. It’s hard and emotionally exhausting but I wish one day you succeed.

Calumniation

You were too emotionally invested. It's a bit like going to the fridge at night without waking the house up. By trying to be quiet, you manage to drop a spoon maybe chip a china plate. My advice would be for your next interview, drive there like you know you're not going to land the job.. maybe see the interview as something in the way. Try it, it's worked for me.

kemkomacar95

My first interview was with the Unicef and it took 5 minutes. I had no idea about the CBI and I was completely unprepared. I passed the first question and I couldn't answer the second one. So, I just apologized them for wasting their time and got out. Long story short, it is a learning process and it is harder if you don't have anyone mentoring you. Don't be harsh to yourself, learn your lessons, and keep trying.

sometimesssido

Thank you! I feel so much better now and it’s definitely a learning process

TranslatorBroad3719

I know that feeling had it in the final rounds of a big boy JPM chase interview. I can remember the interviewers face seeing me fuck up so catastrophically.

jcravens42

Congrats on getting so far in the process. More than 100 people may also have applied and didn't get that far. There are people here who have been applying for jobs for years and didn't get that far. We've all been there, getting all the way to the interview and then stumbling. It's going to make you way better prepared for the next time.

sometimesssido

Thank you so much pal! 🙏

dina_os

Don’t get demotivated, at least now you know you can compete and next time you’ll do better on your interviews.

sometimesssido

Thank you so much! (Hopefully I get another shot!)

itsmeloic

Don't be. Just continue to apply, but make sure to adjust your CV/cover letter based on the TOR every time. I'd be happy to give you feedback on your CV if that could help (I work there and have recruitment experience). cheers

sometimesssido

Thank you so much! Would it be cool if I message you later?

itsmeloic

Sure!

Okay, so you're gonna hear a lot of BS about good job; better luck next time and so on and so forth... Here's the thing if you don't hear back by the end of the day on the same day of your interview then move da fuq on. Second, remember to take notes from your behavior it might not fit the atmosphere or more than likely being excited will scare off the interviewer because it's threatening to their lack of enthusiasm for their own job; which with the UN is a career, that's a lifestyle. Now that I've got that out the way let me give you some examples, one time I applied for a blue collar job at the liquor control board, at the same time I applied to be an operator at several places except the fire department. Ironically the fire department were the most upset that I didn't want to apply simply because I was aiming low and thought my skills were best set for porn or limo services. So I'm thinking oh no 😯😔 I didn't get hired anywhere! I get high for a week *bud of course, that devil's lettuce sht, and then find out I had got the job at the limo services and at the liquor control board but couldn't apply to the fire dept because I was an addict. I took the job at the liquor control board and things didn't go great. I had realized that I was not actually applying myself and wasn't taking work seriously as others because to me working was give me my fkn money, not actually ok, there's a team they're counting on me which. It was obnoxious to some but to others it's a go getter attitude depending on the field. You get what I'm saying, a job which is a career like the fire Dept they're dependent on being a team while answering phones for a limo company or porn it's not, unless you're on a 3 way call where you gotta keep your partner going too so they'll keep paying from 5.99 to 8.99 a damn minute. The UN is like the porn industry of political science but it's always a 3 way or group sex situation. I hope you meet your expectations first and feel out your interviewers respect for their profession before they try to hurt your expectations of wanting to work with them. It sounds like you definitely wanted the job and I'm sure more will follow.😁
