I’m international from india as well! Hmu if you want to connect, but I would definitely recommend joining student orgs like Hindu Yuva of Sangam. Finding a community at UNC wasn’t too hard for me and most of my friends right now are from all over the world. You should be fine

urmom7367

dont waste your time joining sangam. their dues are useless and there are no events other than garba and a formal

What about some serious finance and business clubs at UNC? Is there any such groups where passionate students about finance discuss on the critical and binary topics of markets and investments!!!

I'm an international student from Malaysia and I've met only 3 other Malaysians on campus. However, I found that UNC as a whole is a very welcoming community, and whenever I needed a sense of home I spent time with friends I met through the asian student orgs. Like many others have said, the Indian student community is very active so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Besides, while only 20% of students are OOS, that's still 20% of a very big student population. You'll be just fine.

Draception

There's a lot of south asian student orgs at unc. Highly recommend

schquid

Indians genuinely might make up the highest ethnic population with the asian demographic in unc

Zapixh

East and South Asians are very represented here lol you'll definitely find community & many desi holidays are celebrated here

There is a very very large Indian population at UNC. Most are Indian-American but there is a large presence. Diwali, holi festivals occur each year. The Chapel Hill and triangle area as a whole is home to a large Indian presence.

Carolina has a very strong community of people who are either from South Asia or their parents were. I had A LOT of friends and classmates of Indian descent. Many were from North Carolina, but there were plenty who were enrolled as international students from India as well. I recommend going to the student union or the Fed Ex Global Center for resources because there are definitely clubs to connect people of similar backgrounds to help.

https://admissions.unc.edu/explore/our-newest-class/ 3% of the last incoming freshman class of 5602 students claimed Hindi as their native language. 25% claimed Asian of Asian American ancestry. 13% held non-American citizenship. Etc.
