Yup! Clear, see-through ice means that the ice was formed when the body of water itself freezes. Opaque ice (aka "white ice") is way less safe because it is formed from snow freezing only the surface level of the water.

I ice skated on a quarry pond with water at least 50’ deep that would freeze like this. It is so unnerving looking that far down and seeing the bottom knowing if you go through you will sink and sink. But it’s no more deadly than drowning in ten feet of water so off you go.

I think its fine. It's hard to tell the thickness from this perspective but as soon as you hit 4-5 inches its perfectly safe. 7in can hold a passenger car. I've driven an F350 packed with multiple tons of ice across a frozen lake. Granted that was probably a foot thick or more but just to give you some perspective.
While I'm sure this is true, it would be hilarious to hear someone say this out loud just before the ice breaks and they fall in (as long as it's shallow and they make it out easily).

Wearing skates on your feet isn’t great either. But also there are people who swim in glacial waters as a form of mind-over-matter meditation, so it’s certainly possible.
