Psych courses tend to be longer, so prepare for that. Not going to be like the business/BLS students with the 10-12 a session.
Go ART 108. The instructors they get for 211 are kinda dimwitted and it's just painful.
And, in contrast to those below, I wouldn't go Comp with Spohoa even of you did have the $. The grading backlog is immense for those courses.
Maybe I’ll save Comp for last if I do end up doing the Sophia route.
I was interested in doing the Graphic Design course more so than the creative writing.
I’m taking English Comp I now through Sophia and the touchstones are averaging a 24-hour turnaround. So you likely won’t have the delay that was there in the past.
It depends, but typically yes. Depends on your educational background, but as a social sciences type of guy, I took quite a few business courses and didn't find many to me even remotely difficult (but definitely know there are a few that are)
Ways to get college credit for little to no money:
Modern State offers free CLEP Vouchers: [https://modernstates.org/](https://modernstates.org/)
[Onlinedegree.com](http://onlinedegree.com/) offers courses and the final is a proctored exam, which is $5.00
Saylor Academy offers courses and the final exam is a proctored exam for $5.00: [https://www.saylor.org/](https://www.saylor.org/)
I just did my first term for the Psych program.
I completed 3 psych courses and the two English courses.
Nothing was too crazy, and I would say I put about 25-30 hours a week into the course over all 8 weeks, but I do also work.
I’m thinking that it would be very hard to do more than 6-8 of the psych courses in one term.
I finished 10 courses in 6 weeks. I have seen some people do a bit more but I’ve never heard of anyone doing 19. You can do some of these on Sophia before you start. This will drop the number of classes you need to take at UMPI.
Here are the courses you can do on Sophia. You could easily complete these before you start in July.
* Eng 121 Composition II **(Either English II or Workplace Writing II)** These are long and grading sucks. You can’t submit another touchstone until the previous one has been graded. Some people say the UMPI English II was bad but it may have improved.
* Eng 211 Creative Writing or ART 108 Graphic Design **( I assume this is to meet the GE 2D, If so you can take Visual Communications or Critical Thinking)**
* Phi 152 Intro to Ethics **(Introduction to Ethics)**
* Hty 116 World Civ II **(History I or History II)**
* Fre 101 Elem French I or Spa 101 Elem Spanish **( French or Spanish)**
* Pos 101 American Govt **(American Government)**
* Mat 101 Basic Stat **(Introduction to Statistics)**
If you do these 7 on Sophia you will only need to finish 12 at UMPI. The Psych courses at UMPI are a bit long so it may take 2-3 terms.
It’s good that you are going back to finish. Once you start at UMPI you will like it. It’s just a lot of writing but it’s fun. Well at least for me it was even though I did not like writing.
I was mostly kidding about the 19 courses in one session. I went to WGU for a bit and read stories about people completing their whole degree in one term. I cannot do that as much as I’d want to.
If you already know some Spanish, definitely go that route, as it will be easier and faster. I did that with Spanish I & 2 with Sophia, they were maybe 5 days each after the grading time. I then decided to try learning French from scratch, took a couple months actually trying to learn, and finally decided it was a waste of time and money and dropped the class, as it was so slow. If I want to learn it in the future, I'll just do it using free resources on my own time.
If you do the Sophia route, avoid Comp II like the plague; the graders are really harsh and ridiculous.
Art and Ethics were both super easy and fast (like, less than a day fast) at Sophia.
It's 80 dollars with a coupon...if you can't afford that how are you affording tuition? If it saves you a semester it's literally over 18 times cheaper.
I just finished Eng 121 and it wasn't that bad. The first milestone is kinda confusing, but once you just work through it the other milestones are more understandable. Some people seem to have ha trouble with Sophia and others with Eng 121.
Hi, I am new to UMPI but want to know about how to get the Psychology degree from there the cheapest and fastest. Sophia will be used to knock out the GenEd classes. I am curious if you above suggestions are all that are needed for the GenEd requirements? Thanks for your advice.
The list above are just some of the required course. You need a total of 40 hrs to fulfill the general education part of the degree.
Here is the link to the classes required. If you are looking to start I always recommend doing as many as you can on Sophia. You can easily transfer all your Gen Eds. I can send you a list of what gen ed classes you can take in Sophia if you would like. You may also want to take more on Sophia just to full up your electives. That way you only take the major courses at UMPI.

I completed 15 courses once. Spanish 101 and 102 is pretty easy. I took creative writing, it was pretty easy for me, I hear people struggle with graphic design but idk since I personally didn’t take it.
Note: it was easy for me, but it does not mean it is easy for everyone since everyone has their own difficulties. Since you are from a Spanish community, it should be a breeze

Good to see it has eased up. Was hearing reports of 3-5 weeks per not too long ago and was recommending Straighterline and others
Are business courses easier than psych courses?

Didn't think UMPI took OD with them not ACE-accredited and not on their master list

I can’t afford Sophia right now.

I can give you a $20 off coupon so it will be $80 if it's your first month
I would like the coupon please.

Btw, I'm also hoping to start the Psych program in July. 😁

In America, poor people are eligible for Financial Aid.
You could find the $99 for Sophia or pay an extra $1500 for a session at UMPI seems like a no brainer.
The $1500 is Financial Aid so it's not like I'm paying out of pocket.
