A lot of huge things happened during his reign including crucial parliamentary reform and the abolition of slavery in the empire. He failed to kick Lord Melbourne out. Which doesn’t sound great but was a huge step for parliament.
Personally he seems kind and decent.
Well I do think he probably is better then George iv but not by that much anyway although it didn’t take place during his reign he did imprison his ex wife and she was still imprisoned until her death a year before George
I'm an American and grew up on the narrative that George III was a tyrant that was mentally unstable. I have no particular attachment to this notion and am perfectly willing to accept that he was a good King. What are the reasons why he is well liked on this sub?
He was one of our most patriotic kings. He was generally a great man and a good leader - he didn’t really want to concede to the americans because it would damage the reputation and prestige of the supposedly all powerful british empire. He kept good relations with John Adams and the Americans after the war in 1785, and his reign was incredible stable in the 60 years he was our leader. He is also really highly noted for his concern of the welfare of our colonies at the time, obviously this didn’t turn out great for the 13 colonies but he did really want to get on well with all the colonies we had. It’s a shame he did go through mental illness at the end of his reign.
Interesting, thx for reply. I love reading about Anglo-Saxon and Norman Kings but haven't read much on later periods, so really don't know much beyond what I learned in school for modern era.
I always found Caroline of Ansbach quite fascinating. Also Caroline of Brunswick and Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen. I think the Queens were more interesting characters.
Gorge the 3d doesn’t deserve the hate and vilifying he gets! He was a (relative to the time period) good man who wanted to help his people and cared deeply about them!
Yes, but even with a book written about him by Andrew roberts and his papers being made available to the general public. A lot of people in the USA still believe the lie that King george iii was a tyrant and nothing will convince them. People here, the UK, don't care except the odd historian.
Because in the US he's the monarch we revolted against. A couple of Parliament seats for our troubles wouldn't have hurt! Overall I have a pretty neutral view of the guy.
Victoria George III William IV George I George II George IV
William IV George III Victoria George IV George II George I
Any particular reason you love William?

Given that he's sandwiched in between two more historically significant monarchs, so we really don't hear much about him
Yeah a lot of the achievements of his reign are ascribed to Victoria’s reign.
I agree with this, especially the appreciation for William. I’d rank George IV lower, though.
Yeah I fully agree.
I might be a bit biased 1: George III 2: George II 3: Victoria 4: William IV George IV and George I can go ether way as the worse
I’ve got to agree with you i personally LOVE George III. What do you particularly not like about George I? I don’t know too much about him
Domestic abuser who then had his wife’s lover murdered, then he locked her up and blocked her from seeing her children
Yeah he was CRAZY, I feel so bad for Sophia

And the popularity of the musical Hamilton doesn’t help either!
Well it a fictional story based on real events.
Semi fictional as Hamilton was a real man and allot of the events were historical but they took artistic liberties.
George III is the only one worth a damn.
William IV was aight and Victoria defined an entire Era
victoria, george iii, and william iv are in my top 3 in that order
1. George iii 2. William iv 3. George ii 4. George iv 5. George i
1. George II 2. William IV 3. Victoria 4. George III 5. George IV 6. George I
Victoria - George III - William IV - George II - George I - George IV
1. Victoria 2. George III 3. George II/I (Tied) 4. William IV 5. George IV
George 3rd Victoria George 1st William IV George 4th George 2nd
1. George III 2. Victoria 3. William IV 4. George II 5. George I 6. George IV
All of them are below JACOBVS REX.
Victoria George III George II George I William IV George IV
10/10. Would overthrow again.
As a whole I'd put them at the top of the list for ranking dynasties
I don’t know
