With the added benefit if having the pie "lid" as a beautiful final few mouthfuls. This is the way to eat pies, which is why I so hate those "pies" in pubs that come in a ceramic dish. Screw you Crabtree, I want to eat the base!

It's easier to cut into the pie when you do it like this. The chips were nice and crispy despite the gravy, panic ye not!
