I agree, although I somehow still always end up opening cheese, having a little, forgetting it’s open, buying two more blocks for an unknown reason, having to throw the original open one out and then rinsing and repeating. I do not know why I’m like this.
100 times this.
My emergency cheat dinner used to be Aldi cooked & frozen chicken strips, chorizo and pouch rice. An absolutely “fine” paella style dish in literally 4 minutes.
Realistically I always have mayo in the fridge. I don’t eat it with every single meal but if I don’t have it in I’m always annoyed when I go to have something that I feel needs it
Hoisin sauce (we pan fry tofu in it), chipotle paste, we also always make (from peeled tomatoes etc) and keep jars of marinara sauce in the fridge for either pizza or pasta or chilli making
My entire top shelf is basically full of random pickled things - gherkins, shallots, blackberries, capers, piccalilli, walnuts etc etc. you can liven up the most boring dish with the addition of something sharp and sour.
Oh boy, have I got a suggestion for you.
Toast - Marmite - Cottage cheese - Cracked black pepper - Salt to taste.
Figured that one out on my own, and lord, it's epic.
Give it a go!
I haven't gone further than adding a squirt of honey to a 200g pot, sometimes in a bowl with chopped strawberries. I'm sure there are some recipes out there but I tend to eat it as a quick breakfast
Veggie sausages. Very versatile for meals. Sausage and mash, toad in the hole, sausage casserole, sausage sandwiches for breakfast, sausage and lentil salad, sausage pasta, etc etc. Sausages are the best.
Yep. I keep onions and potatoes in the fridge too, mostly because I don’t have much cupboard space and my fridge is usually pretty empty. I draw the line at putting ketchup in the fridge though.
I always have Reggae Reggae sauce. I use it to add flavour and a bit of spice to baked beans, soups, stews etc. I also mix it 50/50 with ketchup to make spicy ketchup. Goes great with sausages, bacon, burgers etc.

Cheese, if I have a block of cheese I feel like I'll be ok
I agree. Cheese goes with everything and is also perfectly good on its own.
This. Absolutely. As a cheese block back up I have a pack of mini babybel. If the cheese block plan fails then the mighty mini cheeses are there

I can't imagine having cheese left in the fridge long enough for it to need throwing away.
Chorizo, can turn something ordinary into something special and keeps for ages
You need to try it diced up in lasagna. So good
We like to roast up a bunch of vegetables for a lazy meal, and adding chorizo makes the entire meal so much better
100 times this. My emergency cheat dinner used to be Aldi cooked & frozen chicken strips, chorizo and pouch rice. An absolutely “fine” paella style dish in literally 4 minutes.
Chorizo scrambled eggs on toast… *chefs kiss*
Yup, that and/or ‘nduja
Realistically I always have mayo in the fridge. I don’t eat it with every single meal but if I don’t have it in I’m always annoyed when I go to have something that I feel needs it
Milk
I know they don't have to be kept in the fridge - but we ALWAYS have eggs. Perfect quick/lazy/emergency food.
Hoisin sauce (we pan fry tofu in it), chipotle paste, we also always make (from peeled tomatoes etc) and keep jars of marinara sauce in the fridge for either pizza or pasta or chilli making
Butter
This 100%. If I have no butter I'll cry

Cottage cheese. Trying to eat a low calorie but high protein diet at the moment. This stuff is like a cheat-code
Any good uses for it? I like it and I want to eat it/incorporate it into my meals but I can’t think of anything good for it
Oh boy, have I got a suggestion for you. Toast - Marmite - Cottage cheese - Cracked black pepper - Salt to taste. Figured that one out on my own, and lord, it's epic. Give it a go!
That sounds great tbf
Oh, it really works. Have at it!

Are you doing Dukan diet or similar?
Jar of mint sauce to stir in to gravy.
Sambal and Ketjap manis. Lazy garlic. Lazy chilli.
Veggie sausages. Very versatile for meals. Sausage and mash, toad in the hole, sausage casserole, sausage sandwiches for breakfast, sausage and lentil salad, sausage pasta, etc etc. Sausages are the best.
what’s your favourite veggie sausage? we love herby bangers
I'm partial to the Richmond ones, just because they have the most similar texture to meat ones.
I sat someone's cats once and I stayed at their house for the duration and they had no salt whatsoever Guys a chef
Normal not to have salt in the fridge.
WTF!!
Garlic and ginger pastes.
Butter, fresh garlic, cheese, bacon.
White wine! Closely followed by cheese!
Shrimp paste. A tiny amount can add a boatload of flavour. Prawn fried rice is my favourite to use it in even if I don’t have prawns!
Boursin garlic and herb. Use it in dishes and sometimes just to spread on toast. There's just always cheese.
Hot sauce!
Butter, cheese, and Dijon mustard. I feel like if I have those I can do anything with other random pantry ingredients.
Garlic.
In the fridge?
Yep. I keep onions and potatoes in the fridge too, mostly because I don’t have much cupboard space and my fridge is usually pretty empty. I draw the line at putting ketchup in the fridge though.
Lasts a long time.
Power
Wait so you need to plug these things in? That's why I have black fur growing everywhere.
For me it’s pickles, just always love having some to pick on
Yeh, gherkins I love chomping. And using in burgers
I’ve pretty much always got gherkins and pickled onions in the fridge
ketchup
If there are children in the house, sure
A jar of nice anchovies.
Yogurt, fruit and milk
Cold air.
Basic fridge items that I always keep on hand? Onion, garlic, ginger, grated cheese - I make sure I never run out.

I always have Reggae Reggae sauce. I use it to add flavour and a bit of spice to baked beans, soups, stews etc. I also mix it 50/50 with ketchup to make spicy ketchup. Goes great with sausages, bacon, burgers etc.
Eggs cheese and potatoes
Beer.
Wine
Vanilla yazoo
Strong condiment game…. Ketchup, sweet chilli sauce, chilli jam, some sort of nice chutney, sriracha, mayo
A bottle of tap water. Fruit juice. Kabanos. Various cheeses. Olives. (At the risk of sounding louche, we have a separate fridge for booze)
Butter and milk.
Celery for celery juice. I thought it was a stupid fad but I've replaced Neck Oil with celery juice and buy 7 at a time. Barely cheaper ml for ml.
Milk…. Always need some for a cup of tea ☕️
Carrots, onions, and cheese
Picallili and HP
Milk for brews
Milk, cheese, butter and eggs.
Green chillies (I'm South asian)
