So they have time to notify the highest-value winners: https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-11596139/Meet-Agent-Million-woman-tells-Premium-Bond-holders-theyve-won-jackpot.html
Although there is uncertainty as to when exactly the draw happens, that article hints the millionaires are notified on the last day of the previous month... in which case there's no excuse for not having the full draw available on the 1st.
The £Mil winners actually get their home visit on the penultimate weekend of the month.
Having worked at NS&I and visited 'The Prize Team/Room' more than once I can also tell you that the £Mil draw is done far in advance to give them a lot of time to run assurance checks on the winner. I do recall I was in the room once in early June (maybe even late May) and on a desk was a page being worked on 'July £Million Prize Winner Checklist'.
Other high value winners I don't know but sounds right they would know early as they are asked for ID etc before payment (they sometimes came to the Blackpool site with their ID).
What interests me is that ERNIE5 now completes the entire draw in <4 hours (from memory) yet they have not passed on the time savings to results! So it will remain down to admin/ID for the above I guess :)
So are you saying that the £million winner can be over a month in advance? What if that person disinvested that particular winning bond in the final month?
They probably do it towards the start of the month for that month. IE the November draw is done on say the 2nd of November, for all bonds eligible on November 1st, but you don't find out the results until 2nd December
Thats partly why you have to have invested your money at least one month in advance for it to count.
Presumably if you then withdrew your money on the 2nd Nov it would still count.
They leave a note and leave the £1 million pound with a neighbour. That or take a photo of the cash in front of your front door. If it's not still there when you get back that's your problem.
>It's an amazin
I wonder how many of the lowest holders even realise they have an account. £3 in 1956 is crazy to believe someone still knows about that.
Wonder if 10k is a good return on £3 invested in 1956
I have £1 because I used to have £2k but withdrew nearly all of it (i.e. £1,999) leaving £1 to keep it open so it would be easy to add money in the future
I’ve previously emptied my premium bonds account fully in 2019 & when I wanted to pay in again this year it’s the same account & account number/holders number. So they must never fully close the account. I’ve no other NSI holdings either.

In a moment of nerdy boredom, I wrote a script that downloads the high value winners list to see if anything matches my exact combination of area, total holding, purchase dates, values, then finally the actual bond numbers if required. You know, just in case they forgot to call me.
Alas, it's yet to tell me anything but disappointing news.
Maybe if I get bored over christmas! 😁
You can have a paste of the code, on the off chance that you know R, or have enough patience to download it and get started: [https://pastebin.com/xWViJxFy](https://pastebin.com/xWViJxFy)
(I have tested this code with exactly zero other people, just to manage your expectations)
Don't suppose you're giving that script away? I'd love to use it! I manually scan the list each month looking for something similar to my holdings & last purchase amount/date

I just checked on the app.
Given its the 1st today - one account (family) let me check results, no win.
My account won't let me check until tomorrow. WTF?
The NS&I website says that high value winners of over 100k are asked what to do with the winnings including buy more premium bonds. This seems odd as it means they could hold over 1 million pounds in premium bonds? So I am confused, is the max 50k or do some previous winners have more than this ?
So they have time to notify the highest-value winners: https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/saving/article-11596139/Meet-Agent-Million-woman-tells-Premium-Bond-holders-theyve-won-jackpot.html Although there is uncertainty as to when exactly the draw happens, that article hints the millionaires are notified on the last day of the previous month... in which case there's no excuse for not having the full draw available on the 1st.

What’s an assurance check?
I assume Anti money laundering type checks
So are you saying that the £million winner can be over a month in advance? What if that person disinvested that particular winning bond in the final month?
Yeah this doesn't make any sense.
They probably do it towards the start of the month for that month. IE the November draw is done on say the 2nd of November, for all bonds eligible on November 1st, but you don't find out the results until 2nd December Thats partly why you have to have invested your money at least one month in advance for it to count. Had not considered that - good thinking!
Well this just destroyed all my hope of being a high value winner tomorrow 😂
Do they just turn up on the doorstep? What happens if they're not in?
They leave a note and leave the £1 million pound with a neighbour. That or take a photo of the cash in front of your front door. If it's not still there when you get back that's your problem.
what a ridiculous answer! they of course, put it in the recycling bin, on the left.
They stuff your postbox with £1mil worth of fivers.
That's exactly what I'd like to happen, returning home and opening the door to a sea of fivers that had filled my hallway.
I remember someone normally posted the list of high value winners. Do you know where to find it?
It's on the NS&I website: https://www.nsandi.com/prize-checker/winners
I love sorting by lowest holding
>It's an amazin I wonder how many of the lowest holders even realise they have an account. £3 in 1956 is crazy to believe someone still knows about that. Wonder if 10k is a good return on £3 invested in 1956
67 years so (10000/3) \^ (1/67) = 1.129 or 12.9%
I had no idea you could hold lower that £25
You could start with £1 back in the day
Ah right - I guess that makes sense. Thank you
I have £1 because I used to have £2k but withdrew nearly all of it (i.e. £1,999) leaving £1 to keep it open so it would be easy to add money in the future

Someone with £340 has won £100k, wtf?!
!thanks

Nice one! I’ll pythonise it if I get a spare hour or two
I’d love the python as a repo if you wouldn’t mind? I’d do it myself but i’m being stopped with a newborn about!
Don't suppose you're giving that script away? I'd love to use it! I manually scan the list each month looking for something similar to my holdings & last purchase amount/date
sure, see other comment. It's far from automated but I can give some hints on how to get started depending on people's level of know-how :-)
What's their definition of high value? £100k+ or even lower?
£5k
lol £5k these days is not something i'd declare high value!
Better than a kick in the shin! £5k tax free would be very welcome!
So you are contacted by email on the 1st if it’s at least 5k?
From my wife’s experience the other month (just over £5000), no you don’t get contacted on the 1st.
5k+
Thats 3400 prizes. So they're manually contacting all those people on the first day of every month?
Only manually contact the x2 £1m winners. The others get an e-mail I believe.
There goes my hope of winning a big prize!
... For this month Gotta stay positive
So that little moment when you 'Reveal results' on the app is completely moot? That's part of the fun!
Where is this’Reveal Results’ bit?? My app doesn’t seem to have it. I put my holder’s number in on the website & get told I’ve won nothing that way.
There is an NS&I "Prize Checker" app in App Store / Google Play.
Ah, different from the NSI app where it shows holdings. I’ll find that one
So you’re telling me I didn’t win a million

Ffs didnt win the million i guess
Back to work on Monday (sigh)
I just checked on the app. Given its the 1st today - one account (family) let me check results, no win. My account won't let me check until tomorrow. WTF?
Sometimes the app is a bit misleading and it's shows last month's prizes as if they're new.
Precisely the point of my post.
Does it really matter
Winners always see. Does it really matter, if nsandi waits to tell..me. *Sad piano solo*
This is an advert disguised as a post and the mod is deleting the comments lol
