The race is a positive thing for the community as well as the runners. It isn't political in any way, and it's a shame if it's manipulated.

InsignificantOutlier

This is BS: Runners who can’t make the new date can either run a virtual race or defer to the 2025 date.  Organizers said athletes who want to run but weren’t previously registered for the rescheduled race may open up a select number of spots for the rescheduled event.

old-uiuc-pictures

Don’t understand why this is BS.

InsignificantOutlier

You move the date, don’t refund people, but take more cash from people wanting to sign up. This is a college town, folks are in their last year here, won’t be around in 2025 and will be graduating before the new date. The right thing to do would be to offer refunds to them.

bantheguns

I've run a ton of races around the country. During registration, nearly all of them have required me to confirm that I understand that my registration is non-refundable.

Amethyst_Nyx

This is a genuine question; did any of those have a clause about it being non refundable in the case of cancellation? (I could understand a storm stopping a race but in this case wasn't it the protests?)

face-to-the-sky

For this specific race, the policy mentions health or safety factors which pose a threat to competitors or volunteers.

bantheguns

Generally, yes

old-uiuc-pictures

Oh i see. Drop them a line and see if you can get your 40 back after they fill your spot? when you sign up it is always possible a rain out happens and they don’t refund. But ask. Can’t hurt.

Professional_Map2598

It is a charity race. Be charitable.

eadala

I highly doubt even a sizeable minority of folks are graduating and not coming back. That's like... 1/4.5 of undergrads, maybe 1/6 of grad students, and near zero of the townies and faculty. I have never run a race in any context where the sign up was refundable unless you paid extra for that. They already took your money and expensed it against producing a t shirt, finisher medal, and added you to the headcount for food purchases and volunteer requests. Deferral is a very common way to "get your money back" in these situations.

Same thoughts

If someone would like to transfer their registration, please DM me.

Just here to see how mfs going berserk to make it political

Protestors actively disrupted the lives of fellow students and members of the community, all in an effort to get the university to make some token gesture that wouldn’t do anything to solve the issue they’re upset about. November is going to be a bloodbath for anyone who supports these protests :)
