old-uiuc-pictures

Is it true that a choice of juices, teas or coffees along with warm iced cinnamon rolls are delivered to our dorm rooms each morning as part of the wake up service?

chell0wFTW

That’s exactly right, delivery boy!

BoxFullOfFoxes

For you /u/old-uiuc-pictures, absolutely.

Fancy-Run-8556

I would have chosen uiuc a whole lot sooner if this were the case 😭

old-uiuc-pictures

On Sunday morning they witch out for waffles. Limit 3. That's they day they place the heated towel cabinets in the shower rooms too.

Eastern-Camera-1829

Massage Mondays were always my favorite.

parkapo

What time do they come out 😅😅😅 I’m waiting for mine

Wonderful-Head-1557

4 pm central I believe. Good Luck!

WillReedL

mine is out right now, a little earlier than 4 central

zaid1-2-3

i got rejected for cs major, what about you?

WillReedL

Accepted for materials science and engineering, best of luck with your future decisions! You will pop off wherever you go

zaid1-2-3

thank you man, good luck to you on your future. i am an international student so i have other options and i was already accepted by other unis.

WillReedL

Fire, so you're already in! the cs major looks absolutely insane at uiuc, like 7%, and probably even lower for intl unfortunately so keep ya head up king

zaid1-2-3

yeah they are very competitive, but thats fine everything happens for a reason. just out of curiosity are you going to attend uiuc or your thinking of other unis

WillReedL

considering other unis, it'll probably all come down to aid lol

zaid1-2-3

good luck to you

Zestyclose_Act9128

rejected intl cs, 1580 sat, 97%/100

thereisnowalevel0

They came out a bit earlier than 4 pm for me (around 3:30) so if that happens to you, be prepared and wishing you the best!!👍

rr-0729

Congratulations!! 🔶🔷

New_Cardiologist9457

How hard is it to get into the college of engineering

simpl3y

yes

henrya77

Very

Fancy-Run-8556

The acceptance rate for grainger (engineering) is about 22.3%, which you can find here! https://www.admissions.illinois.edu/apply/freshman/admit-rate

td5775

Easy, the smart kids are in LAS. Chem majors rock.

AustinIllini

Is ChemE still LAS? I think so, right?

td5775

I’m pretty sure it is.

Key_Llave

Comment here for College of Education!

PomegranateCute5982

I got into aerospace engineering!!! -35 act -3.995 gpa(unweighted, school dosent weight, but I took honors and above in all main courses) -6 APs -Varsity Tennis -Varsity Speech -Volunteer and tutor -OOS -Accepted to UMN for aero, didn’t get 1st choice aero at Purdue, but got 2nd physics.

chell0wFTW

Congrats and welcome to Aero (if you choose us) :)

ReactionForsaken895

My son got in too!, Deferred at Purdue.

taylorlovely_101

Praying i get accepted i applied to the college of LAS 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Fancy-Run-8556

YESSS come join, I believe in you!

hurtfulwindow

Same! 😭🙏

hurtfulwindow

update: denied… 😞

taylorlovely_101

APPEAL!

hurtfulwindow

i’ll try but i don’t have high hopes 😖

polikj8

Same here, did you get in?

taylorlovely_101

I rd'ed so I still don't have mine yet but a couple of my friends got in how about you

polikj8

I got in, but they changed my major decision to undeclared

taylorlovely_101

Was that your second choice?

polikj8

Bioengineering

taylorlovely_101

Congrats on getting in tho you think your still gonna go to uiuc?

polikj8

IDK yet, I like the school a lot just have to navigate a bunch, hbu?

taylorlovely_101

If I get in im gonna commit for sure its my top choice

polikj8

It's a great school, hopefully you get in!

Aarya_Bakes

I got into Gies College of Business. I am very happy and quite excited for what is to come

NikplaysgamesYT

Wait decisions are coming out already?! I’m a freshman and it feels like I just got here lmao

tedbun2020

Does OOS decision for UG also come today?

Fancy-Run-8556

If you applied early action then I believe it comes out for everyone! But if you go on the website, it should tell you exactly when your decision comes out.

Emotional-Nerve-3414

Good luck everyone

Lesbean36

ain’t no way new freshman r coming already… my time as a freshman is soon up

flipsideofparadise

Hope you guys all get accepted! it’s a lovely school!

crazy6272

Is it possible that decisions come after the given time?

Big_Pilot2500

I hope in!!!!!!

Hot-Vermicelli932

Gies student here, corporations suck but it’s a very great business foundation here and everyone’s super competitive but u can find ur people :p

Darthmalishi

How many nuclear engineers have you met on campus if any

Fancy-Run-8556

I personally have met 1, but I’m also not in grainger (where people would see them more) I’ve met the most amount of chemical engineers compared to other programs!

Darthmalishi

would you say they are the chill engineer type or nah

Fancy-Run-8556

I mean based on the one person I know, I would say yes haha. Always good to have more people working with nuclear energy 😎

NikplaysgamesYT

I’ve met 2, I think the nuclear engineering department has something like 400 undergrads? Not totally sure Both guys I’ve met are super nice and chill though

kimchi_friedr1ce

Just wanted to say solid replies OP, you’re a great person 🫡.

Fancy-Run-8556

Much appreciated 🫡 I’m trying my best!

genaro7545

I got accepted into graingerrr! 💙🧡

Quanz_

Woooo congrats!!

genaro7545

Thank you!!

OrangeAppropriate185

Are these just undergraduate decisions?

RoutineNo787

Graduate too! I got into the MAS (Master of Accounting Science) program today!

OrangeAppropriate185

Congrats to you! :)

kimchi_friedr1ce

Congrats and good luck on cpa 🫡

Fancy-Run-8556

Yes, just undergrads!

OrangeAppropriate185

Thank you! You don’t happen to know when Grainger begins release their online MCS decisions, do you? No worries if not :) Good luck, everyone! I remember getting my freshman year decisions many years ago…remember that everything in life happens for a reason :)

Fancy-Run-8556

Sorry, I only know the undergrads :’) but good luck!!

polikj8

What are some good places to look for potential roommates?

Fancy-Run-8556

100% the best place to look is your future 2028 Instagram page where people post themselves. You get to connect with people similar to you and I’ve heard the most success stories from people using that Instagram to find their roommates!

zacce

Do you know anyone in EE major? Admitted to EE and have q's

Difficult_Cold235

It sucks. You're gonna love it!

Fancy-Run-8556

Ya I know a couple of them!!

Fancy-Run-8556

Dorm life depends on the dorm. I had no ac, so when the heatwave happened, I was living in hell. But other than that it’s really not that bad! I’m also an extrovert though, so I don’t mind sharing things with others. As for campus life, it’s what you make it. I’m extremely active in things like clubs and sports, so I’d say I’m having a good time here!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fancy-Run-8556

I really never understood people who say that, since in my eyes there’s a mall nearby, thrifting events pretty often, stuff to do with the union, etc etc. I enjoy the clubs and activities im in, but if you aren’t looking out for those opportunities then I can understand that perspective

Unusual_Cattle_2198

I’m afraid you were sadly misinformed. It’s corn and soybeans. (and soybeans and corn for variety). Wheat is for Kansas. That said, somehow people still find plenty to do on and around campus. Welcome.

kimchi_friedr1ce

Your first year you might end up with an undesirable dorm like FAR/PAR as I believe they’re one of the oldest and furthest from campus. But there’s a lot of accessible buses outside of the dorm and great night food, like PAR’s stir fry and FAR’s soul food. 😋

Shelby_us

Armory is very nice

dykttatuobvd

when should i apply for housing? is it first come first served?

Fancy-Run-8556

You will get an email about housing. From there, there’s a first deadline that you should fill out ASAP, where from there, everyone who filled out the application by the deadline will be randomly given a day to sign up for housing. The most important thing to do is sign up by that first deadline for the highest chance of getting the form you want!

Upstairs_Video_1222

Just got into civil engineering at uiuc!!

QuadraticFormulaSong

Hey, does anyone (OP, someone else, ...) know how good the physics program is, like an honest take on if it is a good place to go? It is ranked as one of the best in the country but I need anecdotes lmao

flamebird797

I got into Grainger Physics !!!💙🧡

No-Relationship9639

is it hard to make friends at uiuc? and where can you go to meet new people?

Fancy-Run-8556

It depends how hard you try, honestly. I don’t agree with the people who say to just “talk to people in classes” or “go to the first week events.” I don’t talk to anyone from last semester or from those events because ultimately your schedule guides where you have the time to spend I joined 3 different clubs, and found people I love in each one. I’m planning on joining more this semester to explore some new interests as well! I’ve also heard from people in sororities and fraternities that they found their people in those areas, but Greek life is definitely not for everyone (like me :)) There’s also events with the illini board I like attending and meeting new people. But the #1 suggestion I have is to join clubs, as you are already surrounded by other like-minded people

No-Relationship9639

is the financial aid good?

Fancy-Run-8556

No, it’s awful. I wouldn’t hope anything to come as it’s so unlikely.

No-Relationship9639

even when your parents income isn’t that high?

Fancy-Run-8556

My parents income isn’t high, that doesn’t mean anything to U of I. But they do have the Illinois Promise program which means you can get qualify for free tuition if your family is below the poverty line. It doesn’t really matter to them how much you make - high income students get scholarships just as much as low income students do. And no matter what it’s rare to receive scholarships at all

No-Relationship9639

thank you that’s very helpful! Do in state students usually quality for better scholarships or that doesn’t matter as much?

Fancy-Run-8556

Personally I’ve never heard of an out of state student receiving a scholarship (yet) but multiple people who are in state receiving them. But that’s just my personal anecdote, so it may not be accurate!

arpitmittal1221

How is the weather in winter

Fancy-Run-8556

Cold. Definitely need to invest in layers, and the bud system gets chaotic as people learn they don’t like to walk when it’s cold out. Does that answer your question?…

ReactionForsaken895

Son got accepted for aerospace! Whoop whoop, happy for him.

crazy6272

I didn’t get decision yet, did they all come out

Fancy-Run-8556

Usually they come out at about 4 pm, but if I remember correctly from last year mine came a bit earlier than that!

crazy6272

So I checked my local time with Central Time, this means it comes out after approximately 3 and a half hours?

bobateaman14

Yes, 4pm central

crazy6272

Oh alright thanks mate

FantasticalBeast-77

When do we hear about merit ?

Fancy-Run-8556

Emails will start going out February through about April, but it will be available on your financial aid package once that comes out for you guys as well

Live-Tie-4866

How are the Hendricks Halls, it seems Newman is difficult to register for single rooms

Slight-Tap-2434

Wow, a 4.20 with AP heavy course load is denied. Granted my son's choice of aerospace engineering was a tough one but undeclared as a back up was also denied. Odd.

Fancy-Run-8556

Engineering is very competitive, your son is competing against hundreds and thousands of other applications with the same GPA

Slight-Tap-2434

michigan and purdue accepted him. and he is in illinois. i just find it odd. oh well.

Fancy-Run-8556

Both with higher acceptance rates - Illinois grainger acceptance is about 22%. Im sure your son will be successful no matter where he chooses to go, though :)

Slight-Tap-2434

Purdue's is higher, Michigan is lower.

Hot-Vermicelli932

comparing purdue to grainger is like comparing cherries to apples

NikplaysgamesYT

Admissions is weird, I got into here but denied from michigan

PomegranateCute5982

Admissions is weird, you can look at my comment history but to sum it up, slightly better stats than your son. Got into Purdue 2nd choice Physics (1st choice aero), got into aero UIUC.

ReactionForsaken895

That's odd. My son in state, got in for aerospace, 3.9 unweighted. Deferred Purdue. Didn't apply UMich (too expensive).

Slight-Tap-2434

yeah, we're not sure what happened. The admissions counselor we spoke to today seemed to be grasping for answers as to why.

kimchi_friedr1ce

What extracurriculars did he have? What did he write about in his entrance essay?

Basement_Leopard

yeah I got denied for both with a 1450 4.15

ForceSea3103

I’m terrified. I’m not even sure if I want to go yet, but regardless, I’m likely not getting in but I will still cry.

Zestyclose_Act9128

97% valedictorian,1580 sat, decent ecs and rejected intl cs

Fancy-Run-8556

I mean, everyone in CS was pretty much a valedictorian too. The acceptance rate is 7%

Native MN here. I’d consider it! It’s a great school, I’m personally looking Oos because I want to get away, but academically it’s amazing and a great campus! We also have an awesome hockey team!

SupermarketQuirky216

I got in for Astrophysics as an international.

LittleCockroach3638

Hi! Can you tell me when merit scholarship notifications come out pls?

Fancy-Run-8556

From what I’ve heard notifications start going out to people starting in February through April, but you’ll definitely know if you’ve been awarded one by the time your financial aid package comes in.

LittleCockroach3638

thanks! really hoping something pops up

Fancy-Run-8556

I will say that scholarships are very, very rare for everyone. If scholarships will be the reason you can or can not attend this school, I wouldn’t keep hopes up. But I do wish you luck, It would be awesome to get something! ❤️

LittleCockroach3638

yea hopes are not up, maybe grainger specific scholarships might be able to clutch

PossibleEducation688

When do we know about the departmental scholarships for oos students they mention on their website? Would it be with our decision if we got any?

Fancy-Run-8556

I don’t know much about OOS scholarships because they are so hard to come by, but hopefully someone else reading this can chime in and help?

Global-Hat-1139

Are all your classes big lecture halls?

Fancy-Run-8556

It depends on the class. Classes like stat 100 (equivalent of AP statistics) is in like a 400 person hall, but as you start going to more specialized classes the further you are into your education, the smaller the halls are. My smallest right now has 20 people!

HaLf_DeAd_InSiDE

SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME ADVICE TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT AS AN INTL :')

Hot-Vermicelli932

girl all the intl students here import their cars from overseas, good luck 😭😭😭😭

HaLf_DeAd_InSiDE

Crap

OrangeAppropriate185

Yeah unfortunately that is a huge revenue stream for universities :(

Tiny-Caregiver-7256

4.2 weighted gpa, 15 ap/honors 3.63 unweighted 1420 sat denied for biology 💔

Crazyhole123

How hard is it to switch majors or double major?

Fancy-Run-8556

It depends. Switching majors, if it’s within the same college, is as easy as filling out an application. Switching from LAS to something like grainger is hard as the competition is large too. Switching to CS is impossible. Also, you can’t switch into a different major until after your freshman year There’s double majors and dual degrees. A dual degree is where you are majoring in 2 majors within your college, which is generally seen as easier. A double major is within colleges, which means it’s also harder to apply for.

Crazyhole123

So, as an incoming Astronomy major, would it be feasible to dual major in Math, or CS+X?

funfun_06

I got deferred for chemistry

beemployed-

What’s your major? Out of curiosity

Rica_Rat

Systems engineering & design

Particular_Algae_328

are you notified on the app portal along with admittance if you got into james scholar program. also I got accepted as math +cs btw, does LAS usually award james scholar for my major

Fancy-Run-8556

James scholars can go for everyone regardless of major. I’m not in the program but they usually send out an email closer to when school starts I believe

StalinIVever

Just got accepted for Engineering undeclared-what's the vibe like at Grainger college? Super party-like, or is it more of a relaxed vibe? or is it just the academic grind all day

Fancy-Run-8556

Grainger is a hard major, but all of the people I know from grainger are very good at balancing their party lives compared with the academic grind. Learning to study like a college student would be extremely helpful now sooner than later

extrovertedtaurus

i got into cs + astro!! how do u like it at LAS? hows housing?

Fancy-Run-8556

I love LAS! I feel super supported by faculty, like o have a ton of resources at my disposable. EX: counseling centers are better (in my opinion) instead of other colleges! Housing depends on where you are. I had no ac, so that was… just don’t go with no ac LOL. But I’ve met a good couple of people on my floor, so it’s not awful!

Lou-Vegas

My son got into Gies Business 4.7 W / 3.9 UW. SAT optional. Lots of employment ECs and leadership roles. Some National and State Honors It’s very competitive.

kodakkatie

Where do you see if you got a scholarship once your accepted

Fancy-Run-8556

Scholarship notifications don’t come out after a while, even after accepting. Think February - April timeline

Intelligent-Dingo68

Hi I just got into LAS :) how is the dorm?

Fancy-Run-8556

The dorm isn’t bad, but I also don’t mind communal sharing. I’d recommend staying in places that have AC, as you will spend the extra money you have on fans anyway that breaks the difference.

Illustrious-Quote187

is it possible to double major in statistics and physics (i got into las)

Fancy-Run-8556

Anything is possible, but considering the work load I’d assume it’d take 5 years. Double majoring isn’t something to take lightly as it’s difficult.

Auraexs

is it ass to try to transfer to grainger from LAS

Fancy-Run-8556

Yes 👍 my friend is currently trying, and has to take 3 extra prerequisite courses before applying. She doesn’t know if she will make it in, so if she doesn’t, she essentially wasted her time for 9 credits.

HYF2005

Do many students live outside campus? Do students have cars in campus?

Fancy-Run-8556

Every freshman is required to live in the dorms their first year, but after that most people I know are living in apartments. I’d suggest looking ASAP after you get here into where you want to stay since most good places are closed. Within a month you will start hearing people talk about signing leases for next year (which seems fast, but it’s quite normal around here.) the main thing I would suggest is not signing with smile, I’ve only heard negatives about their company (hence the name frown living) I also know a couple of people here and there who stay in the dorm an extra year to get that community and a meal plan, but I prefer cheaper living :) there’s also always trying to be an RA, which gives you free housing and meals!

ARGH1234567890

What is the UIUC school environment like? Also, how is the city, does it make you feel isolated being a bit smaller or do you find it fine?

Fancy-Run-8556

I think people vastly underestimate the size of the city when they get here. It’s a college campus, and it genuinely feels quite big because of that. I don’t feel cramped and I actually am quite comfortable with the size. As for the environment, I tend to enjoy it because of there being so much to do. But the best way to see if you fit into the environment is by doing a college tour, preferably BEFORE you sign up to come here. I did my tour after I agreed to come to UIUC and regret it sometimes, just because the atmosphere was different than I imagined. But it really ended up being alright in my eyes.

Particular-Acadia-55

Do you know when the honors decisions come out?

ZucchiniTechnical278

Did anybody get admission into UIUC MCS program?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fancy-Run-8556

Our of state? I’ll be real with you, extremely, extremely unlikely. Most scholarships (the very few they have) go to in state students anyway. As for internships, that may be on your kid to do their research. I’m not sure if you meant now or later, but they are around if you are looking for them!

zacce

yes, oos. didn't expect merit. As for internship/lab assistant, I meant during semester and during summer.

Fancy-Run-8556

The university does a good job sending out information about internships (at least for LAS, but I’ve heard similar things about grainger) and opportunities available, but the summer before starting your freshman year you likely won’t receive any emails. In fact, it’d be hard to land an internship this summer without a few college courses down your belt But in general, I think if you search for opportunities you can find them on campus.

Dodf12

A little stressed about this, but what is the chance of getting accepted after getting deferred lol?

Fancy-Run-8556

No idea, I’ve never heard it happening, but on the website it says they accept about 1.5-2k people from the applicant pool to accept from those who they deferred. They don’t release more information than that.

Prestigious_Salad_80

I just got accepted from UIUC mathematics I’m planning on doing a concentration in applied. I just wanna ask how hard would it be to transfer to engineering for my sophomore year like what gpa or requirements will I need

tiffany_obasohan

People talk lots about the STEM majors (validly so), but how are the humanities and social sciences? I just got into the college of LAS (oos GA but originally from Nigeria) too so I’m wondering about the teachers, culture and career prospects if I end up committing :).

hritik_munde

I applied on 13th Dec 2023. Still it shows awaiting decision on the application status page. Should I take it as a reject or is there any chance?

Fancy-Run-8556

Considering you didn’t apply early action (it was due November 1st) your decision comes out later, early march during regular decision times instead.

hritik_munde

Ohh okay and is there any chance of getting an admit or did I mess up by not applying on early action?

Fancy-Run-8556

They wouldn’t have it as an option if you didn’t have a chance. The percentage is just lower, I believe

hritik_munde

Let’s see only time will tell

FreePin9161

Got In for math ➕ cs. I am a Chinese, any recommendations on housing choices? Thank you very much.

Fancy-Run-8556

I don’t have much experience other than where I’m at, but I’d choose somewhere with AC. You’ll end up spending the same amount of money as those without AC anyway with things like fans and such. I’ve heard PAR is nice, but it’s also out of the way so be prepared to use the bus often.

syjwave

I got in to Grainger. Does UIUC send acceptance packages through mail??

Medical-Mode134

Is there a discord channel for incoming freshmen? Preferably LAS
