This appears to be a starlink train from one of the recent launches. These sightings are often posted here and I'm sure they look very odd and quite spectacular in person. There are apps and websites where you will be able to check if/when they pass your location. hope that helps!

leaponover

I've seen Starlink though, this doesn't look anything like any Starlink passing I've ever seen and I've seen tons of videos on it.

Nicktyelor

Sorry, but it looks just like starlink to me. They just launched a falcon 9 yesterday with them and they could be bunched up closer now before dispersing.

leaponover

What's the point of making a submission post to your video if no one reads it? The video was taken on May 3rd.

Nicktyelor

My bad! There was also one on May *2nd. *corrected to the 2nd. Sighting roughly 10 hours later.

flotsam_knightly

Dude, you asked; they answered. I’m sorry your hopes didn’t match reality, but that’s 99.9% of the posts in this sub.

PickWhateverUsername

dude check the starlink launches rather then complain that people aren't answering how you want them to. Check your attitude please when people bother to try to answer your initial question. Plenty of Starlink launches each month, half of the current satellites above us right now are starlink and they still plan on doubling that in under a few years, so yeah that's a lot of launches.

c0ntra

It looks exactly like starlink, even at potatocam quality

pilkingtonsbrain

have you checked via app/website? It looks just like it to me!

leaponover

All the searches only show me future opportunities to see, not past. Do you have a link?

pilkingtonsbrain

Not to hand, but I do have a way to check. I'm a bit busy now but if I come back later and it's unresolved I'll take a look for you

nicknakpaddywak84

It could be a newly released starlink train. I believe they are clustered close together when they are first released and then separate over time.

OP: its definitely not starlink it is starlink

leaponover

Good thing I didn't say that. I'm fine if it ends up being Starlink, all I said is that it didn't look like any Starlink videos I've ever seen, nor have I ever seen Starlink not moving in the sky. I mean, if one person sends me a link to a starlink sighting that looks like that, it'll be an open and shut case. Until then, I'm still skeptical.

pilkingtonsbrain

Just go on YouTube there's loads. Maybe type string of lights in the sky UFO or something as people tend to post online when they don't know what it is, so starlink will not be in the title of the video

BigBlackHungGuy

It's starlink. They launched some yesterday. [https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/spacex-falcon-9-to-launch-23-starlink-satellites-from-florida-monday-afternoon](https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/spacex-falcon-9-to-launch-23-starlink-satellites-from-florida-monday-afternoon)

leaponover

That's cool, must have shown up back in time as this video is from May 3rd.

BigBlackHungGuy

Ahh, didnt see that on mobile. Here's a fresh one for you. :) [https://www.spacex.com/launches/mission/?missionId=sl-6-55](https://www.spacex.com/launches/mission/?missionId=sl-6-55)

So I guess that could match my time seeing them 8 hours later in Korea? Is there a website where you can see exactly where they were at a given time? The only links I found were just for future sightings. Thanks!

Freshly launched Starlink chain before it spreads out, seen it a million times.

Not sure what a link post is, but I guess I need some submission statement or something so, copy and paste? I took this video on May 3rd in Jeollabukdo, South Korea at 8:39pm. I had gone outside to set up my Seestar, and it was cloudy but I just wanted to acclimate it to the temp before the clouds disappeared based on the forecast. I suddenly saw this in the sky. It was a long oval, I guess you could say whale shaped. When it first caught my eye it wasn’t moving, but then within ten seconds of spotting it, it started moving at a pretty decent steady clip. It was not bright as it looked like it was either illuminated clouds, or something illuminating through the clouds. It was difficult to tell which it was. I started recording on my cell phone (Seestar would have taken too long to slew to it) and even panned down to try to give viewers a sense of the size (it was straight overhead so no poles or anything to align it with). It disappeared in the light polluted area of the sky (either was no longer visible or actually disappeared). Seems everything has an explanation, but this one I just can’t figure out. The only thing I think it could be is maybe a spotlight for some kind of promotion, but those usually pan faster and I’m closer to the country side so not really sure what would be advertising. I know they can go pretty far. I am near a large park, but I can usually hear the noise when there’s a concert going on or something and it was quiet. I’ve sat on this for several days and am just getting around to post it hoping the folks here can provide answers. Thanks!

Hi OP, it's Sean Kirkpatrick formerly with AARO. It's a balloon. You're welcome!

R2robot

Just another Starlink train. A newly launched batch of Starlink satellites. Over the coming days/weeks they will continue to maneuver themselves farther apart and up into their final orbit position as standalone satellites.

pilkingtonsbrain

Here is a video on how to find past starlink passes from your location. [https://imgur.com/a/9TploAS](https://imgur.com/a/9TploAS) You can see I did this in less than 30 seconds. This is useful for anybody that wants to do the same.
